brinkley live on the scene. >> reporter: there was a police pursuit through oakland as the suspect vehicle was silver mercedes wagon exited interstate 580. it crashed into several cars causing one of them to spin out. ten police cars along the grand lake or nearby the grand lake theater. we are at the intersection of lakeshore avenue and lake park avenue and grand avenue. an eyewitness says two of the three suspects, all if their teens she said, escaped and ran from the crash scene on foot. they were apprehended. the third suspect she said was injured. >> one of the suspects jumped out of the car. when he jumped out of the car the car behind him hit him. so he was rushed to the hospital with head injuries.

update on the investigation -- >> because we have a mixture of adults and juveniles as suspects, and because we have further investigate steps to take, we cannot release their names and identities at this time. >> police formally identified the victim as lawrence. they were near a high school when someone got out of a car and opened fire. investigator recovered the handgun in the shooting. they say they are no longer looking for suspects. happening now the san francisco police department hosting a meeting to brief the public about the latest shooting. happened halloween night and left an officer and the suspect in critical condition. vic lee live with the conditions on the case. >> reporter: well, dan not a lot

of people here yet at the yewry ka valley community center where this meeting is supposed to start at 6:00. we don't know how much information the police will release tonight to the public because this is still an active investigation. we did talk to a lot of residence here in the castro who are worried and still talking about that shooting. castro residence we spoke with say halloween here has gotten out of control, drawing un-desirables to a celebration that used to be fun and safe. >> all of a sudden people are getting stabbed. windows getting broken, that stuff never happened when it was just, you know, the neighborhood people doing it. >> reporter: this neighborhood you don't expect bullets. you know, you just don't. >> but there were, shortly midnight of november 1st. >> it seems like there was at

least 20 to 30 shots. >> reporter: jim lives across the street from the shooting at 18th and diamond streets. a shooting that left one of the officers and the suspect in critical condition. the officer is now listed as stable. the suspect was booked at his hospital bed on attempted murder and other charges related to the incident. the investigation is still active. police are looking for two or three possible accomplices who car jacketed a taxi cab near castro and market after the shooting. the suspects left the cab in oakland street. joe vargas lives in a union behind this locked gate. >> it was wide open. there were police officers up and down the driveway. looks like the people who arrived here jumped over the fence. >> reporter: vic lee, abc 7

news. two inmates who escaped from court in palo alto yesterday are still on the run. accomplices have been arrested. one a man, the other this woman on your screen, mar question that kirk who reportedly rented the u haul of the get away.ay.a. he and john bivins still on the loose tonight. officials say the inmates smuggled in a handcuff key and used it to get out of their restraints. then in a hallway they broke away, went through an emergency exit and got in a waiting car. the pair ditched the car and took off a cargo van. the men are considered dangerous. they say a picture is worth a thousand words. that is the defense the katie steinle murder trial are

counting on. it's a suggestion the client may have found the gun under a chair left behind by a group of people. lyanne joins us live to explain. >> reporter: all the defense needs to do is plant a seed of doubt in the minds of the jury. now it appears the video shown today may have helped their case. the defense released this s sequence of stills showing six to seven people riving at the pier will ever steinle was shot. they are seen bending or stooping down several times. they remain there for nearly 30 minutes. >> so, we believe it's entirely likely that this group of individuals discarded the weapon. >> reporter: here's the time line. at a 38 p.m. -- 5:38 p.m. those six to seven people leave at the

same time. at 5:50 at unidentified person sit down then quickly gets up. at 6:02 a person stands near the chair and never sits down. then at 6:15 the defendant sat down. they claimed the gun was found wrapped in a piece of cloth and it then went off. it's been established the bullet ricochetted before striking steinle in the back. this expert hired was able to enhance the video before and after steinle was shot. the surveillance video was taken from the fire boat station on pier 22.5 about one mile away. because of the distance the jury was only able to see people in silhouette. the prosecution has argued that there were many people on that pier that night. in san francisco, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news.

rain expected tomorrow in the bay area. it was picture perfect in walnut creek tonight. abc 7 news was at heather farm bark where it was a beautiful day for a drive through the park. christian spencer is here with a look at incoming rain. > skies will become cloudy tonight, rain will fall tomorrow. conditions are dry right now. rain just off the north coast, you can see there's a large storm developing up alaska. that's going to bring some windy conditions our way. mid afternoon we should see rain coverage almost into santa rosa. by 6:00, 6:30 tomorrow evening we'll see rainfall covering all of the north bay and keep eastward and south ward to the bay area. i'll give you a look at rainfall totals and wen you can expect it to arrive.

deon. this plan took off from san francisco this morning and just a short time ago landed in honolulu, hawaii. united's very last retrace the route of its first 747 flight. >> didn't matter if you were sitting in business class or coach. >> abc 7 news reporter wayne freedmon is among the lucky passengers. wayne tell us, what was this experience like? >> reporter: it was quite a flight. the plane arrived a little less than an hour ago. you'll still see 747 flying but not for united airlines. this is the last one, it arrived in honolulu a little while ago. 747 was based in united by

shasta county's, sherry which was -- she's shown on the video tape running across the parking lot. she disappeared while jogging last november. 22 days later on thanksgiving day she was found 150 miles south her home with a broken news, bruises and chains, she had been branded. she said she was kidnaped but these two women at gunpoint. investigators have no reason not to believe her story. although the the the the the on the way -- inaccuracies could cause the county thousands of dollars. >> reporter: conducted every ten years, the u.s. census is central to american flocksy.

crack down is coming in the south bay, aimed at downtown san jose landlords to register their vacant store fronts. the goal behind the plans is encouraging to dress up behind the stakes. >> abc 7 news reporter david luey with the details. >> reporter: redevelopment takes time and that has left many store fronts vacant especially along first and second streets. some have been papered over, others boarded up. the city was thinking to rid downtown of this blithe by encouraging owners to rid via cans and pay fees code inspections. >> we're hoping to get a code officer out there for frequently just to keep them in compliance. and hopefully entice them to beautiful fie their building. >> reporter: landlords will be encouraged to turn on inside or

hard to believe, tomorrow is one month since the north bay wildfires started. we continue to see signs of recovery and improvement. today the napa house valley reopened. and a job fair featured 170 north bay employers. many people in the fire zones not only lost their homes but also their jobs as businesses burned to the ground. some are reevaluated their career choices. >> maybe a need a change. >> employers here presented their representative wide range of fields and positions available from management to entry level as well. the road to recovery for the north bay is going to be a long one and we foe there are still so many emotional stories to share. tomorrow on the one month anniversary, abc 7 is dedicating a day to the wildfires.

those cars could have a boat load of problems. how to spot a flood damaged car before you drive off the lot. flood vehicles sold without disclosing the damage is illegal in some states, but doesn't mean it won't happen. >> that information isn't clearly communicated to the potential byers. >> some flood damage reeks are sold with clean titles meaning a flood damaged car can find its way back to the used car market. if the car doesn't carry maximum insurance, flood damage may not be enclosed in the title. mechanics should conduct a inspection, but there are thing you can do too. >> first thing come over to the car, inhale and see if it has a mold or musty smell. if so walk away from the car. look at the door pockets, if there's any kind of dirt or
