today to special coverage of the north bay wildfires, one month later. we'll have some stories of the many fire victims and the long road to recovery in every newscast. it is 4:31. let's get a quick update of weather and traffic. hi, mike. >> reggie and natasha, hi, everybody. still concerned with toxic run-off in the north bay. right now no flood watches out for anything that's going to cause debris flows or something of that nature. we're expecting the rain to cause minimal damage up there. here is a look at mt. tamalpais. it's breezy up at 2,600 feet. 48 to about 53 at 7:00. some scattered sprinkles at noon. most of us dry, 61 to 63. some scattered light showers especially across the north bay at 4:00. 60 to 63. and then the steadier rain moves in during the evening and overnight hours temperature 58 to 62 at 7:00. so still mild there. we'll take a look at your

commute forecast coming up next. how about the commute itself, sue? >> we're early enough on this wednesday morning it's not too bad now. we do have some slow traffic with brake lights starting just before the high rise but otherwise a 15-minute rise from 880 over to foster city on the san mateo bridge. some road work in lanes. a full freeway closure eastbound. 780 is closed from 80 to glenn cove for road work there. they do have a detour in place and that should be picked up here by 5:00. we'll check back in a few minutes. >> thank you, sue. we are following developments in the shooting of a police officer on halloween night in the castro. last night police released these photos at a town hall meeting that shows the suspect's gun and the wounded officer's firearm. officials say 32-year-old valadez began shooting at the officer. that officer is still in critical condition. he is also accused of trying to shoot a second officer who fired

back striking the suspect. that suspect also in critical condition. meanwhile in the mission district investigators still trying to determine if two possible accomplices carjacked a taxi around the same time of the shooting in the castro. that vehicle was found a short distance away on oak wood street. >> trying to determine the motive in the shooting death of a high school student. five have been arrested. lawrence janson was gunned down monday afternoon while walking with friends. investigators say a group got out of a car. one person fired on the teen who then died a short time later. the shooter is an adult but some of the suspects were under the age of 18. >> i hope the guy or the people, we've lost somebody. they need to lose something. i don't wish them to be dead, but i wish them to be locked up the rest of their lives. >> police recovered a handgun and the getaway car used at the crime. authorities say none of the suspects have known ties to gangs.

from the live desk we are tracking election day results. democrats are waking up with two big wins in the first major election since president trump's surprise win a year ago. in new jersey and virginia democrats won major gubernatorial races. we go live now to abc news reporter janai norman. >> reporter: we've seen democrats haven't been successful in making special elections, referendums on the president. last night that tactic translated to not one but two big wins. a year after new york city real estate mogul shocked democrats and won the presidency. >> a big night for democrats and really it was a repedation of the nationalist message. >> reporter: they managed to win in tight gubernatorial races that at times seemed to be referendums on president trump

of a man with a similar description who offered a 16-year-old girl a ride just days earlier at delaware street and peninsula avenue. the teen declined and left the area without further contact from the man. happening today former yahoo! ceo marissa meyer is heading to capitol hill to testify on the massive data breaches that occurred under her watch. according to the hill she has been subpoenaed to testify before the senate commerce committee this morning at 7:00 a.m. a representative for her says that she is appearing voluntarily. 3 billion yahoo! customers were affected by the data breach. the current and former ceos of equifax are to testify about that unprecedented breach of private information that happened in july. let's talk temperatures again. we're 44 at menlo park. foster city, 49. half moon bay, 48. everyone else 50 to 51 is degrees on the peninsula. beautiful picture from our east bay hills camera. still fairly clean below this

high cloud deck that's sitting on top of us right now. it's going to become breezy and choppy across the bay today. yard work dry most of the day if you still need to get those gutters and those drains cleared out and exercising just a little more humid today with temperatures in the same ballpark as yesterday. around the state 64 in sacramento. 51 in tahoe. mid to upper 70s for san diego and los angeles. you can see the wet weather in eureka, redding withscattered showers up to sacramento. now the snow starts tonight. by 10:00 tomorrow morning up in the sierra about 5 to 6 inches of snow in our higher elevations. at lake level possibly 3 inches. quiet for most of thursday to friday and then friday afternoon some snow showers and maybe another inch or two in our higher elevations. in fact on the seven-day forecast here that by friday afternoon, saturday and sunday, quiet. and then a wintry mix for monday. for us the same storms will bring us some light to moderate rain today and tomorrow. rainfall about .15.

happening today vice president mike pence will meet with victims of the church shooting and tonight will attend a vigil for the 26 people killed. we are learning more from devin kelley. he escaped from a mental health facility in june of 2012. he was confined there. the air force admits it didn't enter kelley's criminal history into the federal database. that would have prevented him from buying the weapons he used. a new superior court night judge next year. perskey sentenced former stanford student brock turner to just six months in jail for sexual assault. the sentence sparked a recall campaign and he asked to be re-assign re-assigned. a crackdown is coming.

storefronts have been left vacant. the city council is working to end this blight by requiring property owners to register their vacancies and pay fees to cover the costs of quarterly code inspections. >> we're hoping to get a code enforcement officer out there more frequently. to entice them to beautify their building to get off the registry and the ultimate goal to fill those vacant storefronts. >> property owners who don't register will be automatically signed up and sent bills for the code inspections. the program is expected to be operational next spring. it has been one month since the start of the firestorm that devastated parts of the north bay. the most deadly and destructive was the tubbs fire in santa rosa. >> amy hollyfield and our

photographer were among the first tv crews on the west flank where the james jumped highway 101. we'll look back now at how that terrifying scene unfolded over the next six hours. at first there was nothing and then we saw the smoke and slowly we saw all the flames coming up over the mountain. >> it happened so fast and we saw the fire coming over the ridge and no sirens, no fire, nothing. >> next thing you know, the fire is a block away, so we had to evacuate. >> grabbed some things, got in the car. >> all after sudden this by bam on our door. >> let me get the feet. >> when we left you could see the flames licking the top of the mountain and then we got the word we were on fire. >> fire burning a lot of houses, a lot of wineries are going. >> people are losing their homes. >> this is my neighborhood in flames. >> it's mother nature at her worst, i guess.

those scattered showers. light to moderate rain and breezy tonight and then another storm sunday night into monday. let's take a look at today's temperatures. you can see about 60 at half moon bay. 64 to about 68 for most of us. a little bit cooler the further north you go. 62 in santa rosa. 50s in ukiah and lake port. tonight you can see the scattered nature of the green dots. they're signifying some showers. temperatures from about 51 to 57 degrees. so mild once again. this is a ginormous storm. look at how big that is across the entire eastern pacific. right now we're concerned with that coming our way and taking several days to do it. so the first punch will be the more steadier punch. 7:00 this morning just mainly cloudy out there as we head up into the lunch hour. you can see some steady rain starting to move into mendocino county. maybe a sprinkle or two. some scattered showers by the time we get to 4:00 except for the north bay where it's light to moderate steady rain that starts moving into the heart of

the bay right as we get into about the 9:00, 10:00 hour. and you can see steady through the overnight hours all the way through tomorrow morning's commute and then it falls apart. the steadier stuff moving up into the mountains. as we head through the day tomorrow a moist southerly flow which means more scattered showers. we'll take a look at your rainfall totals and the wind gusts up next. let's focus on the accuweather seven-day forecast. temperatures will stay in the 50s to near 60 at the coast. mid to upper 60s for the rest of us until saturday and sunday, possibly some 70s before that next system rolls in. sue? >> we're going to san rafael now with a live look at our camera. this is heading southbound. those taillights past north gate mall and the civic center. you're looking at about a 20-minute drive from novato to the golden gate bridge. not bad at all. moving at the limit, that's looking at north main towards highway 24. eastbound 24 just before 680 reports of garbage blocking several lanes of traffic so

california's official state christmas tree has arrived in sacramento. the 65-foot-tall white spruce was selected from chas at that county. it will be decorated with 10,000 energy efficient l.e.d. lights and 1,000 ornaments. the official lighting ceremony will be december 7. treasurer john chang wants the state to consider a government owned bank to serve cannabis businesses. under federal law banks that accept deposits from cannabis business have is to follow guidelines that most don't want to deal with. >> banks do not want cannabis-related businesses as customers. financial institutions also don't want to deal with the work load and costs for having to count and process such large sums of cash. >> in san francisco's excelsior -- >> chung says they may have to hire armored cars to deposit the cash at banks. google will tell you how long you'll have to wait at a plaunching wait times on google
