outside beijing's great hall of the people. military bands, some very excited children. after the pomp and circumstance, the two leaders got down to business. several thorny issues on their agenda. china was a favored bogeyman for mr. trump during the presidential campaign. he said china was raping the united states and getting away with murder on trade. but sitting next to president xi thursday, a major change in tone. >> i don't blame china. [ applause ] after all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens. i give china great credit. >> reporter: it was a headline making moment, an american president in china blaming his predecessors for allowing the trade deficit to balloon. the other big issue, the nuclear standoff with north korea. president trump using these meetings with president xi to push for a greater commitment from china. >> china can fix this problem

easily and quickly, and i am calling on china and your great president to hopefully work on it very hard. i know one thing about your president, if he works on it hard, it will happen. >> reporter: the trump administration says china has significant influence over north korea as its biggest economic partner. the president today once again calling on all responsible nations to stop doing business with north korea in order to get it to change its behavior. diane, kendis. >> our thanks to karen travers there in beijing, china, the third stop on the president's international trip. but back here in this country, a disturbing headline about airport security just as millions of americans plan to travel for thanksgiving. >> a source tells abc news undercover testing shows the tsa fails to detect security threats roughly 80% of the time. abc's janai norman takes a look at that for us. good morning, janai. >> reporter: diane and kendis, it's a startling new report some members of congress are calling disturbing.

inspectors finding checkpoint security measures failed more than half the time. dangers in the sky from laptop bombs and terrorist threats remain high and now inspectors finding vulnerabilities in the tsa screening meant to thwart those dangers. >> vulnerabilities i think every member at the briefing found disturbing. >> reporter: inspectors looked at airport security checkpoints finding that screeners, their equipment or their procedures failed more than half the time in detecting items smuggled through. that's better than two years ago when tsa failed 95% of the time. when abc news asked if the new failure rate was as high a 80%, a source familiar with the classified report said you're in the ballpark. >> this agency that you run is broken badly. >> reporter: members of congress with sharp criticism of the tsa administrator who released a statement saying in part, we take the oig's findings very seriously and are implementing measures that will improve screening effectiveness at checkpoints. we're focused on staying ahead of a dynamic threat.

but one congressman questioned whether critical funding that could close these security gaps was being siphoned away from the tsa. >> we have the technology and resources to do it, but we're not doing it because of funding because we're taking it away for budget reduction on what people pay themselves out of their own pocket to do it, and we're paying for a wall. >> reporter: and these findings come in the same week a man breached security at an airport in miami and when a man out of phoenix airport made it past security and onto a plane with a ticket with someone else's name on it. so far eight recommendations have been made aimed at improving checkpoint security measures. diane and kendis. >> all right, our thanks to janai there in d.c., thank you. new figures out this morning reveal the impact of the republican tax plan being debated in congress. the congressional budget office says the white house plan would add $1.7 trillion to the federal deficit over ten years. supporters say the tax cut would fuel economic growth to make up for that. another nonpartisan analysis finds the plan would actually

raise taxes for 25% of americans over the next decade and benefit the wealthy the most. the senate is expected to unveil its own plan soon. the parents of a shooter behind the texas church rampage says they're not ready to talk publicly yet. the gunman's father tells abc news we are grieving. our family is grieving. i don't want our lives, our grandchildren's lives destroyed by this media circus. and we're getting more chilling details of the horrifying ordeal. sources say video from a church camera shows the shooter methodically going to each pew and then opening fire. vice president mike pence was on hand overnight in sutherland springs, texas. >> faith is stronger than evil. no attack, no act of violence will ever break our spirit or diminish the faith of the american people. >> this is just amazing. i mean we've lived here 17 years and i've never seen the outpouring of love like

this guy's outfit is as close to iron man as you'll get in real life. he flew it around a park hitting 32 miles an hour. look at that. the gas turbines produced nearly 300 pounds of thrust. hollywood and military are showing interest in using this. new questions are being raised about the proposed merger between at&t and time warner. the parent company of cnn. the justice department is denying reports that regulators demanded cnn be sold for that deal to be approved. that raised some concern about critics of the white house about possible political motivations but the justice department says at&t actually offered to sell cnn and says the offer still does not resolve its antitrust concerns. a stark warning how vulnerable our e-mail is to hackers. the former ceo of yahoo! testified about the massive data breach that compromised 3 billion accounts.

marissa mayer who walk add way from the company with a $260 million payday blamed russian hackers and said yahoo! still doesn't know how it happened. she said companies are in arms race with hackers. tripadvisor says it will warn hoosiers go hotels where sexual assaults have been reported. the travel website will identify those places with a red-lettered message at the top of the listing. tripadvisor says though warnings will last for three months unless new claims are reported. this comes after the company was accused of censuring the reviews of some mexican resorts. and it was a rough start for the self-driving shuttle in downtown las vegas. the shuttle was involved in a crash on the very first day of operation. it was hit by a truck on fremont street. a human worker is always on board just in case.

say this, shame on you for what you did to my son. >> that's heather unruh, a former news anchor in boston detailing new accusations against actor kevin spacey just as we learn that spacey has been removed from his upcoming movie. unruh is accusing spacey of sexually assaulting her 18-year-old son at a bar. >> she claims her son was starstruck during his chance encounter with spacey, and unruh says there was no concent for what happened, and she says there was a witness who she hopes will come forward. >> kevin spacey bought him drink after drink after drink. and when my son was drunk, spacey made his move and sexually assaulted him. i want to make it clear this was a criminal act. >> she says her son was a straight 18-year-old boy at the time. no comment from spacey about her allegations overnight.

sony pictures confirmed spacey is being removed from a movie scheduled to be released next month. the studio says his scenes in the film called "all the money in the world" are being reshot and actor christopher plummer will take spacey's place. a woman who admitted removing a plug from her fiance's kayak causing him to drown has now been sentenced to four years in prison. angelika graswald pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide though she insists she did not intentionally cause his death. because she spent so much time in jail awaiting trial, she could get out as early as next month. she faces possible deportation back to her native latvia. a grief-stricken family in new york is demanding answers after the tragic death of a 3-year-old boy who was allergic to dairy products. the family says elijah silvera went into shock and died after someone at his preschool gave him a grilled cheese sandwich and they say the school knew about his allergy. several investigations are now under way.

researchers now say breast cancer can return up to 20 years after the initial diagnosis. they found the risk of the disease returning is high, especially among women with the most common type of breast cancer, but they say patients who continue to take suppression medications despite the side effects will reduce that risk. one of the nfl's most powerful owners may be trying to sack commissioner roger goodell. cowboys owner jerry jones is reportedly threatening to sue the league over goodell's contract extension. jones has been unhappy at how goodell has handled the national anthem protest and the suspension of cowboy star ezekiel elliott. and three ucla basketball players arrested in china on shoplifting charges are now under house arrest at their hotel facing jail time. the father of one of the players, lavar ball, would not comment outside his hotel. you see him there and he's usually very outspoken. it could take weeks to resolve the case. the players traveled to china for their season opener. one of those kids is the brother also of a star nba player for

hometown of san rafael. how is it looking out there, amy? >> reporter: good morning, natasha. it's raining, a light rain but was wet overnight and the roads are very wet this morning and a fatal accident did happen overnight on these wet roads. let's get to the video of northbound 101 in san rafael. a big rig crashed. they had to shut down all lanes on northbound, three lanes on the southbound side. the big rig crashed and caught fire. this is near the san pedro exit. the chp said at least one person was killed in this accident. the good news is for commuters, they just reopened all of the lanes. they were closed all night long but reopened them within the last hour so commuters, you shouldn't feel an impact from this accident. the chp is asking that all commuters remember that it is wet this morning, to slow down and give yourself space between you and the car in front of you. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news.

and we have breaking news coming in out of san leandro, a car ran into a home overnight at 150th avenue and patton avenue, crashed into a room where children were sleeping. amazingly no one was hurt in the car or in the home. and look at this video we just got from the scene. you can see all the damage left behind on that home as crews were able to get that vehicle away from the house. the car hit exactly where the children were sleeping. again, those kids were not hurt. police say right now it does not appear the driver was impaired, in fact, they think the crash could have been due to slick roads or car equipment that failed. i will let you know as soon as we get an update. >> thanks, jessica. it is 4:30. if you're just joining us a quick look on your weather and traffic. we'll start with mike. mike, i guess i timed it wrong. i went outside this morning and that's when i got a second shower. >> oh! did you have an umbrella? >>
