an overturn crash. here as san jose northbound 280 looking good right now. 17 still fine out of the santa cruz mountains. the slow spot is the usual suspect, tracy to dublin, currently 39 minutes. reggie, natasha? we do have breaking news coming in. a fire at a home in gilroy this morning. we just got this video only a few moments ago, and take a look at the flames there. this was on broadway near church. also near renz park if you're familiar with the area. the fire reported shortly after 2:00 this morning, and it has been taking a long time for firefighters to get this thing out. at last check they were still dealing with things out there, in fact, firefighters were reportedly working to protect nearby homes because they were worried flames would spread. unclear if anyone was inside the house when it sparked. our team is working on getting

additional information. i will let you know as soon as we get that. jessica, thank you. a $25,000 reward is being offered for the capture of two inmates on the run. >> the men escaped from the courthouse earlier this week. abc 7 news reporter tiffany wilson is live outside the courthouse this morning. tiffany? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. they orchestrated a brazen attempt to escape, it involved a handcuff key, two cars, and several accomplices. those accomplices have been arrested but the two escaped inmates are on the run. so take a look at these two pictures. authorities say both men have palo alto connections and are likely in the area. if you know where they are authorities are offering $25,000 for their capture. police say the men are dangerous, so if you see them, call police. >> sometimes money is a motivator to get people to call where maybe they wouldn't have called in the past. it gives them that extra nudge. >> reporter: the men are accused

of armed robbery. they allegedly stole more than $64,000 of cell phones from a verizon store in sunnyvale. police say the men wore masks, forced employees to open a safe and then tied them up and locked them in a bathroom. the sheriff's office says more than 20 detectives are assigned to the ongoing man hunt for these inmates. tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >> thank you, tiffany. happening today a new round of tests will look for lead in drinking water at oakland's public schools. this follows lead being found during another series of tests in august. that prompted the replacement of some faucets. so far 70 schools have been tested. we have a list of all the results so far and you can find more at abc7news.com. some new details in a discrimination lawsuit against san francisco state university. a federal judge plans to drop it. he ruled the group of jewish students failed to show intent. a lawsuit claimed they fostered discrimination in a hostile environment for jewish students. the judge will allow the students to amend the suit but

the suit most be, quote, lean and clear. apple is getting involved in the texas church shooting. they have release add statement after the fbi said earlier this week that it has the shooter's phone but can't unlock it. apple says our team immediately reached out to the fbi after learning from their press conference on tuesday that investigators were trying to access a mobile phone. we offered assistance and said we would expedite our response to any legal process they send us. last year the fbi took apple to court to force it to unlock the san bernardino shooter's phone because investigators believed the device had clues about who he communicated with. in this case a special agent in the fbi's san antonio division didn't say what they hoped to find. investigators say they already have a lot of information about his motive. senator dianne feinstein and her democratic colleagues introduced a new bill yesterday to take action on assault weapons. the assault weapons ban of 2017 prohibits assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, and

bump stocks. feinstein says more than 700 people have died in mass shootings over the last 30 years. information about a criminal organization targeting wildfire victims. scammers have claimed fema benefits belonging to thousands of wildfire victims. veterinarian was a victim of the fire but fraud. her north town animal hospital in santa rosa burned to the ground in the wildfires. when she filed for disaster aid she was told someone used her social security number to claim her benefits. that put her claim and the animal hospital at risk. >> the uncertainty and the unknowing is very difficult. it's like where is the practice going to end up being? where is the fema money going to end up going? is there anything else? >> with thousands of fire victims caught up in the same scam 7 on your side asked fema to help them get on track for aid. fema has locked thousands of

we've also got foster city towards san mateo, crystal springs road there. 280 skyline boulevard up to burlingame all getting wet right now. so just got to be careful this morning and it's not a steady rain anymore. it's transitioning over to showers so you may as you drive today hit a shower, maybe not, maybe hit another shower and then, you know, it's going to be one of those days. 49 in clear lake, one of the cool spots. 52 in ukiah. everyone else 54 in petaluma to 58 in san mateo, mill valley and vallejo. napa, 57 along with lafayette and daly city. 59 in redwood city. 60 in san jose. also in tracy. here is a look at san jose, 101 and 880. this is where the commute will at least be the easiest as far as slickness as you had about 0.1 of an inch of rain. the friction causes heat from the tires and pavement and that will dry things out.

before the crash. >> reporter: in this morning's "gma first look" this video shows former baseball star roy halladay flying his plane just moments before he fatally crashed into the ocean. the amphibious plane slamming into the water. bystanders calling 911 and rushing to the site to try to help. >> we're pretty sure we're going towards him. he just crashed. >> reporter: halladay's aircraft destroyed, recovered in four feet of water. this morning the ntsb investigating, interviewing witnesses and examining the plane's two data recorders. >> generally a lot of witnesses have said the plane was maneuvering at low altitude. >> certainly i saw a steep bank angle that's unusual, but what he was trying to do, we still don't know -- land on the water or just skim it am. >> reporter: the latest on this ongoing crash investigation coming up at 7:00 a.m. it's 5:15.

to concord and highway 4 all the way back down to albany and san mateo, a little wet this morning. it is weakening a little bit. it will be humid today. there's not a lot of energy in the atmosphere until the sun starts to warm the atmosphere and make it buoyant and that's what's going to scatter us some showers especially the further north you are, the closer you are to that energy. highs today, 62 at half moon bay. 60 at ukiah. the rest of us 63 in san francisco. a lot like yesterday, just a little more sunshine. tonight's another mild one out there, another humid one, too, there, another humid one, too, about 50 to 55 degrees. scattered showers, up to a third of an inch is possible and that's mainly across the north bay.

a team of volunteers helped veterans. it's a group called operation dignity that runs that complex with the help of other nonprofits. >> we would love our veterans, we really care about them, and they deserve every piece of work and kindness we can pull together for them. we are creating seven planter boxes for each of the seven buildings so people can come and take ownership of them and feel like this is their home. >> as you can tell by the t-shirts the volunteers are home depot associates and spent their day off doing this. the annual veterans day holiday will be observed tomorrow. there was a very special party honoring heroes in the east bay. first responders in walnut creek got together with people they have saved. the many heroes being honored were from police and fire departments across contra costa county. 2-year-old oliver was resuscitated after falling into a hot tub. >> the first responder that had come through was within a

>> reporter: good morning. the chp hoping everyone will slow down. there was a fatal accident last night. a big rig crashed and caught fire in san rafael on highway 101 on the northbound side. they had to shut down all those lanes and shut down some southbound lanes as well. this happened at the san pedro exit and one person was killed in that accident. they did keep all the lanes closed all night long while they they did reopen them around 3:30. so the lanes are open now. your commute should not be impacted by this accident. and the rain has stopped for now here in the north bay. we're getting a little break in the action but the roads are still wet so the chp is asking everyone to be careful this morning. live in san rafael, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank you. new this morning in the east bay a car went into a home in san leandro. the car plowed into the kids' bedroom overnight. everyone is okay.

this is on the corner of 150th avenue. police say right now it does not appear the driver was impaired. they think the crash could have been due to wet roads or car equipment that failed. glad to hear everyone is okay there. in the north bay a great sign of progress following the devastating fires that wiped out entire neighborhoods. >> the california office of emergency services posted some drone video on facebook yesterday and it shows the first home in santa rosa's coffey park to be cleared of fire debris. the homeowners signed their right of entry form which allows crews on their private property. the deadline to turn in those right of entry forms is less than a week away. about 1,000 homes were destroyed in the coffey park neighborhood. >> metallica, dave matthews and bay area hip-hop artist will be raising money for fire victims. proceeds from ticket sales will go to tipping point community which has set up an emergency relief fund. 7,000 tickets are provided for free to first responders and fire victims. the band together bay area

>> okay. so he didn't blame china. instead president trump blamed past u.s. administrations for allowing the trade deficit to take place and grow. also this morning $250 billion worth of business agreements between the u.s. and china were announced. all right, jessica, thank you. happening on the peninsula, funeral services will be held for three young friends killed in a car crash on halloween night. those who knew them say ricardo torres, andrew gonzales, and matthew cruz shared an extremely deep bond. they were died crashed off skyline boulevard in san mateo county. funeral services will begin at 1:30 at the church of the nativity. a funeral procession starts at 4:00 p.m. and a go fund me account was just set up. the family wants to use the donations to install a guardrail at the site of the crash. they've raised at least $200 so far. happening today the state board of education will consider

rejecting new textbooks that don't detail the sexual orientation of historical figures. a coalition of lgbt rights groups are urging the board to reject two proposed history and social science textbooks for middle schools. the textbooks are the first to be considered for approval following the passage of the 2011 fair education act which calls on public schools to include more lessons about the lgbt community. new this morning, oakland school leaders say they need to cut $15 million from their budget to rebuild its financial reserves. according to our media partner the bay area news group, the district is falling short of meeting state mandates. in july the school board cut $22.5 million more than the half a billion budget. the board voted to decide where it will make cuts at next month's meeting. some alarming failures in airport security. new loopholes and checkpoints uncovered by the department of homeland security ahead of the

busy holiday travel season and abc news reporter janai norman is live in washington, d.c., with more details. >> reporter: jessica, it's a startling new report that some members of congress are calling disturbing. inspectors found security checkpoint measures failed more than half the time. dangers in the sky. from laptop bombs and terrorist threats remain high and now inspectors finding vulnerabilities in the tsa screening meant to thwart those dangers. >> vulnerabilities i think every member at the briefing found disturbing. >> reporter: inspectors looked at airport security checkpoints finding screeners, their equipment or their procedures failed more than half the time in detecting items smuggled through. that's better than two years ago when tsa failed 95% of the time. when abc news asked if the new failure rate was as high as 80%, a source familiar said you're in the ballpark. >> this agency that you run is broken, badly.

let's take a look at what's going on right now. if you're going across the benicia bridge, it is wet and getting wetter by the second. 680/highway 4 wet. sliding down to the castro valley. 580 and the dublin grade is about to get wet. and even the san mateo bridge -- i should say dumbarton is getting wet right now. you need to be careful there. it is the san mateo bridge, excuse me. everyone else in the mid to upper 50s inland except for mt. diablo at 46. 59 right now in hayward and mountain view. 57 in napa, pacifica. san francisco about 60. let's talk about what's going on with the golden gate bridge. breezy here still southwest wind blowing at about 18 to 26. that's where our fastest winds are right now. the rest of us the winds did calm down. slick conditions on the roads

especially this morning. showers possible if you're taking mass transit and a small craft advisory. choppy and breezy on the bay. 65 in sacramento. 71 in l.a. with afternoon sunshine and my seven-day forecast for tahoe, you've got some rain and then showers and windy conditions today. breezy with a slight chance of some snow showers tomorrow. a better chance of some snow showers monday. frances, what are you watching? >> mike, numerous spinouts and accidents. i'll take you to some causing slowdowns this is 880 past 16, traffic is slowing because of the crash. blocking lane, consider eastbound 580 as an alter net. always a mess when the roads get slippery. an earlier overturn crash on mcewen. still causing delays westbound 4 out through martinez as you make your way towards highway 80. northbound 87 at taylor, another injury crash as well. this is going to cause some slowing for folks heading through san jose. 101 not a great alternate.

it's 5:43. kevin spacey is being edited out of an upcoming movie that was already ready to hit theaters. christopher plummer will replace him in the film "all the money in the world." it's still set for release on december 22nd. spacey faces new accusations of sexual harassment. a woman came forward claiming last year the actor groped her 18-year-old son in massachusetts. the california naacp is taking support of 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick's protest of the national anthem a step further urging state and federal lawmakers to remove the song as our national anthem. california's naacp president says the anthem is actually pro-slavery and anti-african-american because of a lesser known third verse that says, quote, no refuge could save the hireling and slave. >> we've been remiss not to look at the entire song, and i must

own. author robert spencer. we're having issues with the prompter. there we go. spencer is either a religious scholar or islamaphobe. republicans added him to add perspective to a conversation about international security, end quote. student fees will partially fund the event that has upset some students and they're now circulating a petition against the speaker. san francisco police are citing the driver of a runaway dump truck for negligence. look at this video. the truck rolled backwards down the street between vallejo and broadway on tuesday. and that caused a big mess. police say it hit nine parked cars. an investigation found the driver ignored safety precautions and did not curb the tires. the truck was overloaded and the emergency brakes malfunctioned. a driverless shuttle bus launched in las vegas yesterday, crashing less than an hour later. this is just a fender-bender. police say none of the eight peole onboard were hurt. the driverless vehicle stopped

scattered showers mainly across the north bay, takes place after the morning commute and it pretty much stays there. there could be a random shower elsewhere. that's just the best area. at 7:00 we wind down the evening commute with scattered showers in the north bay. as we head to the morning commute look at the scattered showers reach all the way down into the south bay. so it could be wet then, also. my accuweather seven-day forecast, still looking fantastic. rain in the evening sunday and showers and breezy monday. frances, it's all yours. >> with the wet roads we've had numerous accidents, lots of spinouts. here is a live shot of 101 in san rafael. looks like the lanes just reopened in the last few minutes. south 101 there near lincoln. traffic is backed up but hopefully that will start to clear up pretty quickly and the drive times south 101, santa rosa is over an hour. 1:02. i want to talk about mass transit because that's a great way to go.

so far ace, muni, b.a.r.t. reporting no delays. it's a mess out there. numerous accidents southbound 880 past 16 causing delays. more accidents in my next report. guys? from the live desk this morning, a very bizarre chase on a california freeway involving an rv. and take a look here, this is san diego. highway patrol pursuing a large rv started in pacific beach and the rv has arkansas plates. the chp put down spike strips to blow out the tires but the driver actually kept going and was driving without any tires. sparks were flying on the freeway. the driver finally pulled over but refused to get out. at one point officers actually surrounded the rv with guns drawn. thank goodness things ended peacefully a short time ago. a man and woman were both arrested. right now they are working on opening back up that very busy freeway in southern california.

rosa and kentfield. a big event tonight. we're going to raise some money. band together, benefit concert from north bay fire relief. it's at at&t park. i'm banking on it being dry. it's going to be pretty mild, 57 to 55 degrees under a mostly cloudy sky. it will be humid, though. frances? all right, mike, here is a live shot of 101 in san rafael and traffic is very slow but recovering from an earlier accident that did block a couple of the lanes here for over half an hour. you can see most of the activity is off to the right-hand side but still some brake lights 101 through san rafael. it's been a really unlucky spot at the mcarthur maze. this is the third accident right now. this is westbound 580 connecting the eastbound 80 and so far traffic is fine. notice the westbound 80 traffic heading to the bay bridge is already backed up through the maze. southbound 880, a crash slowing things down. 580 an alternate for you. there's also another problem in the south bay, northbound 87 to 280, traffic is slowing,
