good morning, america. winter weather warning. an arctic blast hitting right now bringing bitter cold and snow from the midwest to the northeast. icy roads sparking dangerous accidents. and now temperatures on the verge of plummeting below zero. up to a foot of snow in the forecast. new overnight, president trump applauded in china after a big about-face. >> i don't blame china. >> he no longer blames china for taking advantage of the u.s. as former vice president joe biden speaks out about the president. an exclusive look at his revealing new interview and his fears about hillary clinton's stop at nothing campaign. this morning, dramatic allegations against kevin spacey are growing. a former news anchor sharing her emotional story. >> actor kevin spacey sexually assaulted my son.

owned up to lip-syncing. >> yeah, twitter took notice. but he's explaining why he made what he called the gametime call. a lot more coming up. we want to get to that arctic blast sparking winter weather warnings, record lows are now in the forecast and abc's linzie janis is in minneapolis where the temperatures are dropping. good morning, linzie. >> reporter: good morning, michael. winter's first big freeze is here in the midwest and headed towards the northeast, we've got snow flurries in the air. the thermometer says 0 but feels like 6 and feels like tomorrow will drop to zero. i've been standing out here for a few moments and my fingers are in pain. there are winter storm warnings in effect across the midwest today. some areas could see up to a foot of lake-effect snow. brace yourselves, it's headed your way. michael. >> i'm braced. i don't care how much you think you're ready for it, you never

are ready for it. and we're going to go over to ginger. ginger, how cold is it going to get? >> these numbers are painful. let's start with the images that come from that same cold front. this was fargo and dozens of accidents, thankfully on that school bus no children were there when it spun out but i wanted to just point you toward those numbers. i'll go ahead and have that arctic blast on the map. the pinks and purples hate to see. the feels like, right, these are windchill, minneapolis, 7. up in northern minnesota, well below zero. but then by tomorrow morning, a place like chicago will see falling temperatures, enough so that it only feels like 10. detroit, 12, and then it's saturday morning when the cold, the core or the focus of that air gets right to the northeast. the windchills will be in the teens. even raleigh and asheville, 21 and 24 respectively, all in the deep freeze. i have much for coming up in just a couple of moments. >> you act like you're surprised. >> it's the below 20 that got me, 19.

>> i think everybody at home felt the same way. also this morning, president trump making headline nsz china. changing his tone touting $250 billion in business deals and now saying he does not blame china for taking advantage of the united states in the past after repeatedly slapping the country as we know on the campaign trail. our senior white house correspondent cecilia vega is in beijing with more. good morning, cecilia. >> reporter: hey, robin, good morning. you remember president trump went after china repeatedly during the campaign trail. china was his punching bag but today, right here in the heart of the city with president xi standing by his side, it was nothing but praise. this morning, the chinese didn't just roll out the red carpet for president trump. they pulled out all the stops. a military band playing the national anthem. ♪ cannons firing. flags waving, jumping children. more jumping children. and in return, president trump lavishing praise on china's xi jinping. >> you're a very special man. >> reporter: repeatedly.

>> my feeling toward you is an incredibly warm one as we said, there's great chemistry. >> reporter: and today in beijing, he won over the chinese with this major reversal on trade. >> i don't blame china. [ applause ] after all who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens. i give china great credit. [ applause ] >> reporter: an american president on chinese soil, praising xi while bashing his predecessors. >> in actuality i do blame past administrations for allowing this out-of-control trade deficit to take place and to grow. >> reporter: how quickly things change. this was candidate trump on the campaign trail. >> we can't continue to allow china to rape our country. >> they're getting away with murder.

>> reporter: we tried to ask. do you still believe china is raping the united states, mr. president? >> reporter: but in this communist country where press freedoms are limited, no answers. now, the top item on the agenda for these two leaders, of course, north korea. today i asked secretary of state rex tillerson what this conversation about north korea was like behind closed doors. he told me president trump used flattery for president xi and said, quote, you are a very strong man and you can solve this for me. tillerson said that, while there are areas of disagreement between china and the u.s., north korea is not one of them, george. >> i guess that flattery works both ways. okay, e sill ya, thanks very much. back here at home republicans in congress pushing hard for their tax bill but running into real questions about how much the bill will cost, whether middle class families will really benefit over time. mary bruce is on capitol hill with the latest. good morning, mary.

>> reporter: good morning, george. well, after the democratic sweep in the elections earlier this week, republicans know they need a win here. they have to pass tax reform. republicans are promising relief to middle class americans but according to one new analysis while taxes on average would go down initially, in ten years one in four americans would end up paying more taxes than they do now and this morning, we're learning more about what this bill really costs. the nonpartisan congressional budget office analysis is in and this is $200 billion over budget. surpassing that limit required if they want to pass this bill with just republican support. in total this bill raises the deficit $1.7 trillion. >> yeah, a real math problem right there. and one of the ways we're looking to solve it bring the obamacare repeal back and could complicate things. >> reporter: complicate things, indeed, george. to help save costs some are floating of getting rid of the obamacare mandate that all americans have insurance. that could help save more than $300 billion but it could also leave 13 million more americans

uninsured over the next decade. >> bringing that debate back. the senate will introduce theirs today and that could be different from what the house is doing. >> reporter: while house republicans scramble to pass this by thanksgiving the senate will release their own version. these two bills are expected to differ significantly and that creates a real political dilemma. look, ultimately any difference also have to be worked out and republicans are up against their own ticking clock here if they want to get all of this done by the end of the year. >> which means could push into next year. thanks very much. now to a revealing new interview with joe biden. the former vice president opening up about his decision not to run into 2016 and where things stand one year after president trump's victory. he sat down with oprah. our chief national correspondent tom llamas with an exclusive first look. boy, biden really feeding speculation about whether he'll run in 2020. >> wait till you hear this interview. george, good morning. we're only one year into the trump presidency and former vice president joe biden is a name that keeps coming up to take on the president in 2020. now in a new interview, an excerpt obtained by "the daily

mirror," we learned he didn't run in 2016 because he feared hillary clinton backers would stop at nothing to take him down. >> i came back and said -- >> reporter: this morning, "gma" with exclusive clips from oprah winfrey's interview with joe biden. in the candid sit-down biden sounding more and more like someone who may still want to run. >> i have a regret that i am not president because i think there's so much opportunity. i think america is so incredibly well positioned. >> reporter: biden explaining to oprah why he didn't run in 2016. >> oprah, no woman or man should announce they're running for president unless they can answer two questions. >> yeah. >> one, do they truly believe they're the most qualified person for that moment. i believed i was. but was i prepared to be able to give my whole heart, my whole soul and all my intention to the endeavor? and i knew i wasn't. >> reporter: at the time the biden family was reeling from a

loss of their son beau who died of brain cancer. at the age of 46. biden says he hasn't made a decision yet about 2020 but on wednesday, he came out hard against president trump. >> did any one of you ever think that you would see folks coming out from under rocks and out of the feels with torches carrying swastikas and then have those who were protesting compared as the moral equivalent to those people? folks, this is eating at the fabric of this country. >> reporter: biden and president trump have tangled before. >> i wish i was in high school and could take him behind the gym. that's what i wish. >> i dream of that. biden. you know what you do with biden, you go like this and he'd fall over. just -- tough guy, mr. tough guy. >> reporter: right now biden says challenges are what drive him.

>> i wanted to be that person who was no matter what happened just got back up. >> now, many of the revelations about 2016 and biden's choices are in his new book out next week, oprah's interview airs sunday on own. >> boy, and he really is not closing the door on 2020. >> that's right. i spoke with someone trying to get him to run in 2016 and this person is convinced he wants to run in 2020 but when i brought up his age, 74, this person said no doubt that will be a factor. when he's running on the campaign trail he's going to be 76, 77. "vanity fair" had a great line about this, said if 40 is the new 30 for joe biden 80 is the new 60. >> he's in pretty good shape. thanks very much. now to a massive manhunt under way in tennessee for three inmates who escaped from jail one facing homicide charges and now on the state's most wanted list. abc's steve osunsami is in lafayette, tennessee, where the town is on edge. good morning, steve. >> reporter: good morning to you, robin.

this is a rural area and people who live here believe that the three men who escaped from this county jail behind me are probably hiding in the woods. authorities have canine units, u.s. marshals even helicopters in the air searching for them. they believe that they could be anywhere in this area but tell us that they made their escape by pulling a speaker out of a wall and then crawling through that wall and then running out of the back of the jail. two of the men are in for theft and drug charges, but one of them, 20-year-old dylan ferguson, the youngest is considered the most dangerous. he is accused of murder and was put on the state's most wanted list. one thing authorities point out is that the largest of these guys, six feet tall, 160 pounds, small enough to fit through a speaker hole. >> oh, my goodness. all right, steve, thank you very much. we keep hearing so much about these jail breaks. >> pulling a speaker out, wow.

now to new concerns about airport safety as an expected 28.5 million people are getting ready to fly for thanksgiving. alarming results from undercover tests show checkpoints fail to uncover threats. more than half the time. david kerley is at reagan airport with more. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning. you mentioned more than half the time it's actually worse than that. we got a tip that the fail rate was around 80% and a source familiar with this classified report says, that's in the ballpark. now, this comes two years after the fail rate for tsa and some of these tests was 95%. now, the tests and the teams, including secretaries and administrative workers, try to sneak components for bombs, guns and weapons through security. this is an effort to stress the system because terrorists still believe attacking u.s. aviation and the system is the crown jewel for them. and for many u.s. officials the threat of laptop bombs or other weapons remains extremely high right now. these new results are alarming for members of congress from both parties.

they were briefed on this latest classified test yesterday, one of them called it very disturbing, another alarming. one member, michael, told the head of tsa your administration, your agency is broken, michael. >> very strong words and, david, what is congress want to have happen to fix the gap in security at checkpoints and no pun intended. >> a couple of moments ago we showed you brand-new scanners which actually see your bags in a 3d form. they're testing those machines right now in a couple of cities, phoenix and boston, but the members of congress want to see this deployed. they say money is the problem which is being diverted away from tsa. michael. >> all right, thank you, david. can we talk about that big night last night? were you watching? i know we both were watching. >> from the beginning to the end. >> it's just always such a special night. we're talking about the cma awards. that's country's biggest night and the biggest stars. they did not shy away from the headlines taking on more than just music paying a special beautiful tribute to recent -- to the victims of recent tragedies including, yes, the

the transition to scattered showers has commenced. as you can see by the blobs of green out there. let me put them into motion. you can see the moist flow coming out of the south. that will be with us through tomorrow evening, so is the chance of scattered showers. you can see the best chance starts to move up into the north bay as we head towards the afternoon and evening hours. and then overnight, that chance will slide back down and take over the rest of our neighborhood so, tomorrow's morning commute could be just as wet as this morning. and so will monday's morning commute. duly noted. thank you, mike. we'll have another abc7 news update in about 30 minutes and always on our free abc7 news app.

appear in court charged with misdemeanor fourth degree assault as we learn more about senator paul's condition. he says he's actually got six broken ribs, excess fluid around his lungs, pretty serious. now to new allegations and fallout for kevin spacey. a former tv anchor coming forward tearfully claiming the actor sexually assaulted her then-18-year-old son last year. authorities are looking into the case as many of hollywood's scandals now turn into criminal investigations and, amy, i know you have the latest. >> that's right. this morning after weeks of allegations against a growing number of stars and hollywood power players, the sexual harassment scandals rocking hollywood now potentially turning criminal. police confirming this morning they are investigating reports of misconduct or even rape on the part of at least three hollywood heavyweights including a new bombshell accusation against "house of cards" actor kevin spacey. emotional words from a former boston tv anchor who alleges her son was sexually assaulted by kevin spacey. >> first, i just want to let you know i'm here not as a journalist today but as a mom.

in july 2016, actor kevin spacey sexually assaulted my son. >> reporter: heather unruh claiming the actor bought her son drink after drink at a nantucket bar and groped him calling the oscar winner a sexual predator and criminal. >> spacey stuck his hand inside my son's pants and grabbed his genitals. this was completely unexpected. and my son's efforts to shift his body to remove spacey's hand were only momentarily successful. the violation continued. my son panicked. he froze. a concerned woman quickly came to my very shaken son's side and asked if he was okay. obviously, she had seen something and she knew that he was not. she told him to run. and he did. he ran as fast as he could. >> reporter: she says he woke up his sister and together they

called their mom. >> nothing could have prepared my son for how that sexual assault would make him feel as a man. it harmed him and it cannot be undone. >> reporter: unruh says her son did not report the incident out of embarrassment and fear but has since changed his mind. cape cod's district attorney confirming to abc news an individual has provided information to the nantucket police regarding an allegation of an indecent assault and battery. >> the statute of limitations in massachusetts for both civil and criminal prosecution will allow this young man to move forward. >> reporter: sony pictures confirms spacey is being removed from the j. paul getty drama "all the money in the world." and replaced with 87-year-old christopher plummer. the star the latest in a series of celebrities who are under

criminal investigation for sexual misconduct. the lapd confirming a report has been filed against "gossip girl" star ed westwick. >> completely understand. >> reporter: on facebook, kristina cohen writing westwick raped her saying she was paralyzed. terrified. i couldn't speak. it was a nightmare. westwick responding to the allegations tweeting, i do not know this woman. i have never forced myself in any manner on any woman. i certainly have never committed rape. >> we can't talk about this. >> reporter: and this morning, actor terry crews taking action after writing on twitter he was groped at a hollywood party last year. tmz capturing crews leaving the lapd hollywood division's office. >> why did you decide to file the police report today? >> oh, because, you know, people have to be held accountable. >> kevin spacey telling abc news through a spokesperson he is taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment and this morning, movie mogul

harvey weinstein who now stands accused by more than 70 women of sexual misconduct, including some claims of rape, possibly illegal jeopardy as well. the nypd telling abc news they believe the manhattan d.a. plans to present evidence before a grand jury which is not yet been convened yet and the manhattan d.a. telling abc news they don't comment on investigations or time lines this person but weinstein's spokesperson saying we do not believe an indictment of mr. weinstein is imminent. no criminal charges are warranted. >> so, amy, let's bring in dan abrams and larry hackett. we use the phrase sexual misconduct, it's going so beyond that seeing more and more victims, they're pursuing criminal charges but haven't seen any actual arrests now. do you think that will change? >> yeah, i mean if you're harvey weinstein right now, you have to be very nervous based on the pressure that the new york police department is putting on the d.a. to file charges here. but i think part of the reason you're seeing so many more potential criminal cases,

criminal investigations is statute of limitations meaning people aren't now talking about things that happened in the '70s and the '80s. they're talking about things that happened last year. two years ago, six months ago. no statute of limitations problems either in criminal or civil. and so as a result, you've got a much more active situation when it comes to these investigations and not the excuse of saying, sorry, there's nothing we can do. >> and speaking to that obviously in addition to the reports about kevin spacey and ed westwick. we're now hearing from people like corey feldman, terry crews, saying this happened to them. the dam has broken. >> it really has broken. >> wondering whether the weinstein situation would change things, it's obvious it has, a combination of people seeing the activity of -- that weinstein perpetrated upon people and saying that happened to me, that's a crime, i'm going to the officials number one. number two, the degree of courage they're being given others are coming forward. i think, though, this is just the beginning. just because it's been a month or six weeks doesn't mean that

people have necessarily screwed up enough courage to come forward. it takes some people a lot of time and you saw that yesterday in boston. i think there's going to be more and more as people get that sense of proportion and that sense of courage to come forward. >> the court of public opinion is one thing. a courtroom is another. how do you go about proving these allegations? >> corroborating evidence. meaning these cases, people love to say, oh, it's just a he said/she said or he said/he said. not true. very often what you have is potentially corroborating evidence. what are those things, e-mails and texts from the time, friends who were there when it happened or immediately thereafter. so anything you have that can back up the account becomes very important in a courtroom because particularly, when you're talking about some of the older allegations, a d.a. will want to say, all right, how can we prove this, i believe you but how are we going to be able to prove this and that sort of corroborating evidence becomes

critical. >> and, larry, let's talk about how the entertainment industry moves forward. we know that this sort of thing happens in every industry but in the entertainment industry the rules are looser. you don't have a corporate structure. how do they figure it out and make things better? >> i think some the people there, whether it's leaders at studios or people with great influence will have to come forward and say we need to change the culture. you pointed out something that is right. when you watch an awards show it looks like they're all friends, it's basically a town full of freelancers who get together for different projects here and there. there is no hr department. there is no one to complain to. there is no central bureaucracy that handles hollywood and that's why these things are allowed to fester and go on. somebody needs to figure out how to do it. it's starting to affect the industry and how people perceive this town. unless they do that it's going to continue and be bad for everybody. >> awards season is coming up. those shows -- >> the last thing on their minds. >> you're right about that. thank you. george.

victor oquendo is in florida with the story. good morning, victor. >> reporter: good morning, george. witnesses said they saw roy halladay flying aggressively, not just before the crash but all week. the ntsb says that they have not seen this new video. for now they're calling it a high-energy impact. >> what the [ bleep ]. >> reporter: this new video obtained by tmz sports shows former baseball star roy halladay flying his plane just moments before he fatally crashed into the ocean. >> what the [ bleep ], dude. >> reporter: bystanders calling 911 and rushing to the crash site to help. >> we're pretty sure we're going towards him. he just crashed. >> reporter: the 40-year-old's aircraft destroyed. recovered in four feet of water. this morning the ntsb investigating interviewing witnesses and examining the plane's two data recorders. the ntsb believes halladay did not make a mayday call but witnesses tell tmz the retired pitcher would regularly posted photos and videos of himself online was flying the aircraft aggressively all week. >> a lot of witnesses have said that the plane was maneuvering at low altitude. >> certainly i saw a steep bank angle that's unusual.

but what he was trying to do we still don't know. land on the water or just skim it? >> i grew up around airplanes. >> reporter: it's been described as a sports car or jet ski with wings. the company advertising that an amateur could learn to fly it in less than 30 hours. >> the a5 is really a good airplane. adequately powered and sleek airplane. but like any airplane it has to be handled carefully. >> reporter: the model has been involved in two crashes in the late eight months including one accident which killed its chief designer and another of the company's employees. the ntsb finding the likely cause of that low-flying crash to be pilot error. last month icon revising its guidelines to fly the plane at least 300 feet above water. halladay received his pilot's license four years ago racking up more than 700 hours of flying experience. the ntsb says that this investigation could take more than a year and icon says it will do whatever it can to support the investigation. guys. >> such a shame. >> that video is chilling. >> still a big loss.

field. i think that the women of "grey's anatomy" are like modern-day superheroes. >> i played a nurse on "grey's anatomy" for 14 years now. it was such an inspiration to be on set. i looked into being a real nurse and, yeah, i went ahead and got my master's degree in nursing and here i am. >> i've been watching "grey's anatomy" since i was 15 years old. i knew that i wanted to be a surgeon and now i'm going to medical school next year and just continuing to pursue my dream to be a doctor and to be like meredith grey. >> oh. [ applause ] >> hey, you guys. you know i'm emotional. i mean, that's -- you know, how -- so first of all, to play a doctor, you realize how precious life is and how lucky we are just to be living and breathing and our heart beating every day. then to have that on top of it is really moving and i don't know how -- thank you. i don't know how i couldn't be thrilled every day just to get

"daddy's home 2," you play mark wahlberg's father. i tell you, couldn't have been cast any better. >> yeah. >> but "variety" characterized your character as a grandpa from hell. >> yeah, yeah, i guess, you know, some of them are diabolically possessed. not really me, though. he's the macho dude. i'm actually more accustomed to recipes. you know, i'm not adverse to a pedicure. >> and speaking of kids and the father, a grandfather you're a father nine times. >> nine, yeah. >> what kind of father are

what would your kids describe you as? >> i'm a regular dad. when i see them up in the attic, a little dog kibble. they're fine. no, but it gets better and better. i think you learn as you go and there's no such thing as a perfect parent. it doesn't matter how good you think you are or how well you actually do you're always going to kind of mess it up a little bit and your children will generally remind you of that later on. >> without a doubt. you're 100%. i can speak from experience. you play mark's dad. john lithgow plays will's father. what cracks up first on set? >> it's very difficult particularly when mark and will get going. these two just start this kind of -- they have mercurial brains and start these riffs on some little subject you can't even believe the minutia of the places they get to. completely off the wall and it was very difficult actually to keep a straight face and sometimes i was just breaking up and like i'd ruin the take, you know. >> we're going to take a look at a clip and from this -- this is when the two granddads, you guys meet for the first time. >> oh. >> all right. >> "daddy's home 2." >> daddy! >> mwah. >> oh, dad. >> this guy is raising your kids
