while. they said the motion wildlife cameras have not captured an image of the mountain lion, at least not yet. >> this video of a mountain lion strolling by. one near the presidio and the other yesterday in the parking lot of china beach near the southern end of the presidio. there are already coyote warning signs. >> now they need the mountain lion warning signs. >> the california department of fish and wildlife tells abc7 news, while it is unusual to have a mountain lion in the city limits of san francisco, it is not as surprising to see one near the open areas in the presidio. a mountain lion's home range can stretch up to 400 square miles. officials say it is possible the lion wandered here from the bay

or the peninsula. this woman said she thinks she heard it attacking a coyote the other night. >> whimpering, crying, this went on for a very long time. my instinct was that it was attacked. >> reporter: fish and wildlife says their favorite food is deer and there is a high deer population in the bay area. pam, who talks with presidio every day, said she homes she doesn't run into it. >> it would be scary. >> reporter: officials suggest talking or on the trail to make your presence known. if do you come face to face with a mt. lion, wave your arms, make loud noises and never run away. so good precautions to take. >> all right. thank you. defense attorneys rested their case in the trial of the man accused of shooting and killing kate steinle at pier 13 many san francisco.

today, investigators shared the doubts about the accuracy of a police interpreter. the interpreter assisted police when the questioned suspect. our reporter will have more coming up at 5:00. new information into last week's fatal stabbing of a san francisco man. police say they've arrested a suspect in the attack on 48-year-old keith harris. officers could nnduct ad welfar check and found him suffering from multistab wounds. the suspect has been identified as a 26-year-old of san francisco. he was arrested after being in the hospital with some injuries. police have not release ad motive in this attack. now to the south bay where new video shows a group teenagers accused in at least two home burglaries in campbell. it happened last week. you can see seven teenage suspects including one carrying bag that one says was stolen.

it happened on el patio court. the reporter is live with the story. be janine? >> reporter: a lot of people who live in this neighborhood near cal bell avenue and hamilton, they new with the burglaries and some saw the teens leaving and they knew something was wrong. this surveillance video was taken around 10:00 in the morning. you see teenagers walking one by one behind each other in the neighborhood. vince cortes' mother saw it. >> my wife was walking the dog. and as she came down the street, these four young men came briskly out of the backyard through the gate. and she was started. and one guy said, well, we're supposed to meet a friend and came up with a story that didn't make sense. >> reporter: he immediately reported to it police. two homes have been burglarized

and ransacked. >> they were saying they addicted door down and took things. i just moved into the neighborhood. if something like that happens, i feel bad for the people. >> the security video shows someone holding a back. it is the same bag they reported missing from their home. >> the interesting thing is the two homes next to each other. this indicates it is not a professional burglary crew but some kids trying to get an easy score. >> reporter: investigators say the quiet neighborhood downtown is not known for burglaries. it appears the homes were chosen randomly. cortes says it is causing him to make changes. >> it has raised my concern for safety. we'll get a surveillance system and maybe an alarm system for the house chflt we never thought we would have to do. >> police stay quality of the video is so good that they are

fairly confident that somebody is going to recognize those teenagers. we're also posting that video on our website at abc7 news.com. if you recognize any of those teens, campbell police would like the hear from you. >> we have a little rain today and a little rain tomorrow. here's a look. you can see the remnants of the system. just light scattered showers. most falling in the higher terrain right now. here's a look at the storm impact scale for the system that will come through tonight into tomorrow. it is a storm impact one, producing mainly scattered showers. most locations in the bay area will receive less than a tenth of an inch of rage. but in the north bay, some locations could get up to half an inch. you can see more most of the early evening, there won't be much happening. increasing clouds.

on a great oakland talent, it is a great lineup. this all came when some heavy hitters were all talking about how they needed to do something for the neighbors to the north. we're talking heads of tipping point, sales force and of course the giants. that was three weeks ago. the giants ceo said he would be happy to host. he happens to have a place. and they say the money will be put to use. >> we'll find nonprofits and community portions are getting the money to where it is needed most. we believe it is to low income individuals and families most impacted. >> if it can be a gathering place, all the better. we come together at times of celebration like the world series.

>> she is now helping the school district in its effort to eliminate any lead contamination. >> east bay is supporting oakland schools and all the schools in our service area to ensure that there is no lead leeching from faucets and attempts at the particular facilities. >> it came to light after district staff discovered lead. >> we went out and tested the water and found there were issues in the showers and the kitchen and in a couple of water fountains. >> that led to more testing at schools across the district. so far the 70 schools tested, ten have shown signs of contamination. in the worst case, at glen view elementary, lead levels were found to be 60 parts per billion. four times the levels recommended by the government besides replacing any fixtures, there are now separate he

dispensers at schools. to make sure students and staff have clean sources of drinking water. in oakland. laura anthony. >> oakland schools aren't the only ones where the water is being tested. next week, east bay will be could not dugouting tests in richmond. >> california's public utilities commission will now require uber and lyft to conduct deeper back ground checks on the drivers. but they stopped short of requiring the ride hailing drivers to have their finger prints run against criminal data bases. they will be required to use a nationally accredited back ground screener and the information must be turned over to the state. drivers will undergo annual back ground checks under the new rules. the weather changes tell us we are well into fall. it probably means there are some leaves in your backyard. raking can be a chore. but is it a good idea to rake?

band and others. we're now hearing from the father of the texas shooter for the first time. he said he was not ready to speak with the media but off camera, he said his family was grieving. we heard from the father for the very first time. he said his family is grieving but that grief is something we've been hearing from everyone here in sutherland springs. >> reporter: the scars of sunday's mass shooting will mar this community for a long time. ♪ we're all searching for answers ♪ >> the pastor is call for the church to be torn down. he lost his daughter in the shooting and says there will be too much pain for the members to worship in this building again. investigators are now trying to learn more about the man who walked into this church and took 26 innocent lives. the biggest problem, breaking into the heavily encrypted cell

investigation in any way it can. >> thank you. i'm joined by you, let's talk about the piece of gun control. california has some pretty strict laws. are they tough enough and are we ever going to get more meaningful legislation that prevents what seems like a rash of these shootings? >> we have pretty tight gun control in california. i'm looking at additional measures we can explore for next year. we need fewer guns in our state. but really, this problem is not going to be definitively addressed until we have national gun control. we know whenever you have one of those gun shows in nevada near the california border, violence upticks in california so we need to have action. >> let's talk about recreational marijuana. that becomes legal in california

on january 1st. you have some concerns about zoning in particular in san francisco with regard to the board of supervisors. what are you most concerned about? >> sure. 74% of san franciscans voted in favor of legalizing adult use of cannabis and wave long history of being on the cutting edge of medical cannabis in san francisco. right now the board of supervisors is considering a very, very restrictive zoning that would effectively ban new cannabis businesses in all of san francisco. basically wiping out the industry. it contradicts the will of voters. i'm a believer in good regulation of cannabis and smart zoning. we want to have a buffer around schools, for example. but they're going too far and they're going to destroy the industry in san francisco. >> it seems like the notion that san francisco will be ultra conservative on this is hard to imagine. >> yeah. these are good people.

the board of supervisors and my colleagues, i believe they'll do the right thing. we have been trying create more public awareness about the issue. so we're not just seeing that. 74% voted yes. >> i want to talk about the elections that took place in new jersey and virginia. they were significant victories for democrats. what do you think this means for the long run? specifically. is there, can we make a direct correlation between what's coming down the road and the results of these elections. >> if write a republican right now, which i'm not, i would be very, very concerned. as democrat i'm pretty happy. i'm a native of new jersey. i've lived here 20 years but i grew up in new jersey. i remember in 1993 when the republicans swept virginia and new jersey. and then a year later, in 1994, the republicans picked up 60 seats in the house of representatives.

what we saw particularly in virginia were some very conservative seats went democrat. people have had enough of donald trump. of the corruption, of the craziness, of the radical completely crazy politics that he's brought with them. what's happening if congress right now. i believe the democratic base is highly motivated. the swing vote will go democratic. >> it will be interesting to see how it unfolds. now to disturbing allegations against candidate and former alabama judge roy moore. women claiming inappropriate sexual behavior toward him when they were teenagers many years ago. >> reporter: good evening. according to the paper, the incident occurred in 1979 when moore was a 32-year-old district attorney. one of the alleged victims was

only 14. alabama senate candidate roy moore being accused of initiating a sexual encount we are a minor more than 30 years ago. in an exclusive "washington post" investigation. the woman told the payment that moore engaged in inappropriate sexual contact when she was 14. moore's campaign strongly denies the allegation and questions the timing. after four years of public service, if any of these allegations were true, they would have made been public long before now. he called it garbage and the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation. the post interviewed three other women that. that moore pursued them.th on capitol hill, the allegations being taken seriously. >> if there is any shred -- >> no less than ten senators responding. including the senior senator from alabama.

firefighters are investigating an early morning fire that took people out of their holes. pretty much everything in the kitchen is destroyed. >> there's still something to be thankful for. a man driving to get coffee, saw the smoke, stopped his car and woke up everybody in the

building. >> reporter: the family who lived in this unit said they woke to the sound of fire before they smelled the smoke or heard the flames. he lives a few blocks away. he was driving to get coffee up. he saw the ash in the air. i thought maybe i'm seeing things. when i got here, i noticed the building on fire. i started slamming on doors and trying to get people out. >> this woman grabbed her most valuable documents and a favorite pair of shoes. al son ran out in her pajamas. >> i was a little bit scared. i was about to cry. >> she offered a shy hug to the man who woke up her family. >> reporter: the family down there calls you a hero. how do you feel? >> not like a hero. i'm just trying to help.

they are dissipating but more showers are coming in late tonight and early tomorrow. mainly in the north bay. that's where we'll see the greater concentration. tonight low tls in the low to mid 50s. and then tomorrow's highs will be in a similar range to what we saw today. maybe some low 60s. mid to upper 60s in the mildest inland locations. it is a weak storm. it will continue through midday tomorrow. bringing scattered showers. most locations will see less than .1 inch of rainfall. it looks like saturday which is veterans day, will be a light and dry day. we have some warming coming in. that will continue into monday morning and a dry break on tuesday before more showers on wednesday. >> get some red wine, some blueberries in there.

doctors at usc have developed a bionic eye implant that will help people with a blinding eye condition see again. 42-year-old gerar lost his sight completely more than two decades ago because of a rare genetic disorder. now he can actually detect dark and light, thanks to what is called the implant. this technology developed the eye institute was implanted three weeks ago. the reporter from our sister station explains it. >> reporter: it is made of different pieces of hardware. the retinal implant sends electrical information to the processor which interprets the information, sends it back to the coil which communicates with the retinal implant. >> remarkable.
