thanks for joining us. >> this was fourth sighting of a mountain lion over the last week in san francisco. take a look at this map. on november 4, a mt. lion was captured. one was outside the presidio. one was spotted later that same day. today a mountain lion was spotted and tranquillized on diamond heights boulevard. >> do you think officials know if this was the same mountain lion spotted earlier this week in the city? >> reporter: that's a great question can. fish and wildlife officials will be looking into that. they'll be comparing this mountain lion to the surveillance images. what they are telling us is that this is an 82-pound male mountain lion. 18 months old. nobody was injured and this mountain lion is being tagged and returned to the wild. it may have been looking for a

new home when it got lost. >> my roommate called and said hey, there is a mountain lion roaming around. >> from this roof top with guns drawn. >> it's crazy out here. >> they let village residents to know keep the area clear. at one point, creating a roadblock. >> more something you would see. which may be why it is here. lieutenant james, the fish and wildlife warden, traveled here from san mateo. he fired two tranquilizing darts after he said it was too much stimulation for the lion. >> it went very well. the mountain lion was not normal. >> reporter: they said it is normal for an animal to twitch from the medication. the puma project will put a radio collar on the lion so they can track and monitor it.

>> from what i've heard, they had permission from crystal springs area to do a release. >> reporter: they don't know if the it is the same lion they tranquilized today. abc7 news. >> police in san jose have just released new surveillance video of a fifth man wanted in question, a deadly shooting and apartment complex linked to a statewide brothel member. here's a look at the suspect on the left. between 25 and 30, about 160 pounds with a shaved head. he was last seen wearing a blue and tan jacket. police have arrested four other men from southern california. the latest arrest came monday. the los angeles county sheriff's department arrested jason shen

from chino. the last charge has been dropped against an oakland police officer regarding a sex scandal involving a teenager. he was charpgd with soliciting sex from a prostitute and tipping her off about undercover stings. the attorney says the charge was dismissed after the district attorney's office could not find the prostitute. the case was not related to the scandal involving the young woman named jasmine. it looked like a scene out of a movie this afternoon. the police department posted pictures and video after a mercedes sbloomd a gas pump. it caused a fiery explosion. the driver got out and amazingly was not injured. a gas station employee hit the emergency shutout valve. residents welcomed one family back into the neighbor. the home was destroyed during a

tragic fire earlier this summer leaving three people dead. more on how a bay area entrepreneur came to the rescue. >> nearly three months ago, this devastating fire left many in the golden wheel mobile home park absolutely stunned. are he and his niece best friend. telling ace 7 news her life will never be complete again. the loss of her daughter so fresh. but this afternoon, a bitter sweet gathering. the family now trying to put the past behind them with a little help from their neighbors. >> i'm happy for them. >> reporter: a community doing everything it can to show support. >> to help a family start a new life, a new future. and hopefully build something. >> todd sue and his wife cindy

are the co-owners of one of the largest manufacturing home builders in the bay area. they heard about the tragedy and decided to build a new home worth nearly $270,000. they turned over the keys this afternoon. the councilmember says it is a testament to the spirit of san jose. >> for the family, this is really hitting close to home. to the heart. it will continue to be tough on them of the will. >> reporter: volunteers went door to door through the neighborhood to ensure every home has a working smoke detector. officials hope to expand it in the coming year. oakland police and the chp will be putting extra office orders duty to put at a briks a planned veteran side show. two weeks ago, abc7 news was at a hotel near oakland international airport.

as police seized at least five motorcycles and made arrests. these impounds happened after a side show on 880 involving 200 bikers. the chp arrested five people. investigators could not confirm it was connected to the side show. a video in downtown hayward. the extra officers. taking part in a side show illegal and your vehicle can be impounded for seven days. the army base is one step closer to redevelopment. it has been nearly seven years since it shun down. how plans for the future could bring hundreds of badly needed jobs. since the army moved out in 1999, it has been empty and quietly decaying until now.

>> you said 20 years in the making. now it is actually happening. >> john driscoll is at the port of oakland. he guided me through redevelopment plan that has already received approval. it involves construction of a huge building called a logistics facility. >> the actual building will be about a 440 square foot facility. it will be the largest structure in the port of oakland for warehousing. tenants will be transporting cargo between ships, trucks and trains. >> the entire oakland earl base property covers almost 370 acres. half controlled by the city of oakland. the other half by the port. this is just phase one of the redevelopment plan. >> it will create jobs. good jobs. we hope to have union jobs. jobs that will be sustainable and allow families for the employees to maintain a

comfortable environment. >> it took 20 months to negotiate the deal which needs another vote before contracts can be signed in january and work can begin in the spring. and there are critic who's worry about more air and noise pollution from trucks going in and out. the port is hoping neighbor there's give it a chance. >> a lot of potential on the site but we view it as a significant future development for the port and for the residents. >> abc7 news. rain seemed the last a while today. this was the scene in walnut creek where the little one is running to share the umbrella with her grandmother. for the most part, it was just drizzle. >> the rain was a bit how long will it stick around? >> not much longer. it is the same story.

especially cats. wayne has that part of the story. >> reporter: good evening. you learn a lot of things on the job. we expect one kind of story and it turns out to be another kind of story entirely. we wanted to know about missing dogs and cats and pets. it turns out the majority of the pets still missing are cats. when you ask why, the reason makes perfect sense. we're pushing five weeks since the north bay fires. while the damage remains inert, the effects remain in a state of continual flex. there would be one of the smaller battles but no less significant for people who love cats and fire slims lost them. >> if you're a cat, what are you thinking? >> that it hurts. >> reporter: almost five weeks past the fire and the strays keep coming in. many still injured. not unlike this cat they named not dixie for the least subtle of reasons. >> we call her not dixie because

she was almost reclaimed by a woman who thought it was her cat. >> reporter: that's wendy from the human society. she said multiply every story here by 200 cats and you begin to get a sense of what happened. it is a statistical fact during the fire, five times as many cats were lost as dogs. the reason is simple. in times of stress, dogs run to their owners. cats, they tend to hide. >> when you call a cat -- >> they don't come. >> even in a fire. >> even in a fire. >> and the dogs will -- >> come. >> so humans bring their dogs with them but the cats ran or hid. >> you're so beautiful. >> so every day, locals wander through looking for lost animals. sonoma county is just that way these days. in sonoma county, abc7 news. >> a huge victory for tenants in

san francisco. for the first time ever, a jury has reversed an eviction. it involves a building near valley street. a tenant who has lived there since 1998. it allows landlords to evict tenants if they're getting out of the rental business and turning them into cond minute-ups. the tenant argued she was evicted because the land lord wanted his parents to live there. nancy pelosi is in the bay area and criticizing republicaning fork working in the speed of night to get a tarm bill passed. she is going so far as to call it a scam. >> reporter: those massive wildfires in northern california resulted in personal losses for thousands of homeowners. they will still be able to take a dedukes their losses from

their 2017 tax returns. but after that, tunneled proposed republican plan, those deductions will disappear. the same applies for earthquakes, but not for hurricanes. california, a blue state, doesn't have hurricanes. >> it is mean-spirited. but remember this. 14 republicans from california voted knowing that was in the bill. >> reporter: pelosi picked a fire station in san francisco to criticize the republican tax plan. the republicans in california are also distancing themselves from their constituents in new york and new jersey. when it comes the eliminating deductions for state and local taxes. these deductions are made at the time of filing yearly taxes. people in new york and new jersey and california have benefited from these deductions because the cost of living is so high. in the end, if the tax reform plan passes, taxpayers in those states who itemize their deduction there's end up paying

more. the cheryl of the republican party in san francisco says it makes sense to him. >> i think california republicans are really focused on the aspect, if we eliminate these deductions, then everybody, across the country, even in california, will get a benefit from it. >> reporter: republicans have said they plan on steam rolling their plan through congress. abc 7 news. the marines turned it into a mess hall this morning. while most of the veterans were menering with noticed that wasn't the case at one table. >> it gets frustrating to constantly be overlooked as a woman veteran. we're serving also and everywhere we go, we constantly get asked. really? are you a veteran? >> i got to throw grenades and shoot every weapon there was. and i loved it.

the clouds will be around. late sunday into monday. we have a light system. light to moderate rage. half an inch to an inch. elsewhere, .15. the north bay is getting wet. the rain is starting to move into parts of the east bay. sunday night. and then just scattered showers for your morning commute. the showers will linger into the afternoon before it all winds down. the rainfall totals will be highest in the north bay. take a look at the totals as we take through monday night. almost an inch. about a third in san francisco. you're looking, waffle out for the fog. we will see the leftover moisture. certainly some clouds around. and then tomorrow afternoon, we'll biten it up.
