livermore to see what's changed for them in a month seance the fires. >> reporter: wineries in livermore reported a 20% bump up this business and a sustained increase as a result of people being redirected here. >> i think there might be quite a change in overall perception about this area as a result of something terrible. >> reporter: steve berman says their phone range off the hook at this winery the last two weeks of the north bay fire for their planned corporate and personal events. >> seems like this is been an increase in traffic that's been steady. it continues to increase. >> reporter: during the fires, cruise ships diverted passengers to livermore wine tours. >> the contractors i've worked with were very pleased. the biggest thing i heard from them was that the wine country

donating bikes new and used. the bikes lucky handed out to adults and children with homes listed as destroyed. >> the need for helping people that lost everything it's the least we could do. if he felt like after going up there and seeing it we wanted to do something. this is a way everyone can give back. >> the bikes will be delivered tomorrow between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the sheriff's office in santa rosa. metal ka closed out last night's benefit concert at at&t park. bands together raised more than $17 million for people effected by the north bay wildfires. sonoma county measuring the tolls on missing pets, dog, birds, fish, especially cats. wayne freedmon with more from

santa rosa. >> reporter: if you like cats you'd love the sonoma humane society. the place is overflowing with them. enough cats to fill a library of dr.seuss books but these are not happy stories. >> if you're a cat what are you thinking? >> that it hurts. >> reporter: dr. katherine menard performing another procedure on a stray. as of today some 800 people had filed missing pet reports and majority are for cats. it's a statistical fact during the fire 5 times as many cats were lost as dogs. the reason is simple. in times of stress dogs run to their owners. cats, they tend to hide. >> many people fled with their dogs, they're much easier to get into the car. whereas the cats hide or are outside. >> reporter: this shelter

handles roughly 200 cats and returned roughly 70 of them. in some of those cases these cats had micro chips. joey, they know his name because it's on a chip but his owners never updated the rest of his information. >> he's a great guy, seems like he has a home somewhere. >> reporter: in no one claims he's animals the shelter will put them up for adoption. >> the one rule is if there's an owner that comes for them we'll talk to them and see if they'll allow the cat to go back to their original owner. >> abc 7 news. we have covered the north bay wildfires extensively in the past month. for a look at all of our stories go to abc7news.com.

a premium in the bay area. one property that local leaders hope to bring back to life creating hundreds of badly needed jobs. the oakland army base was shut down nearly 20 years ago. >> that's right, the plan is one step closer to reality. here's eric thomas. >> reporter: since the company moved transportation out in 1999 there's been plenty of ideas of what to put on the army base. >> anything from a box store. there were talks of having auto lots here. or-in some hollywood filming fig this site. >> reporter: john guided me through the $52 million redevelopment plan that's already received approval commissioners. it involved a huge building because logistics facility. >> it will be the largest structure if the port of oakland

for warehousing capacity. >> reporter: tenants will be companies that transport cargo between ships trucks and train. the entire oak land base property covers almost 370 acres. half controlled by the toy of oakland, the other half by the port. this is just phase one of the redevelopment plan. >> it's going to create jobs, good jobs. we hope to have union jobs. jobstal be able to be sustainable and allow families, employees to payne a family in a comfortable environment. >> reporter: it took 20 months to negotiate the deal which still need another approval. there are critics who worry about more air and noise pollution of trucks going in and out. >> there's a lot of history on this site. there's a lot of potential on

this site but we view this as a significant future for development and the port and returned of oakland. >> reporter: it'll take ten to 12 months to finish construction. a san jose community trying to help a family overcome a speak bl tragedy with a gift of a new home. on august 17, a fire killed three people including two, 10-year-old girls. advantage homes heard about the advanta tragedy and decided to build a new home for this family. >> we're blessed to give an opportunity and be able to do this for a family. it gives us a chance to share in some of the pain and make them feel good about coming to a wonderful home and having a place to stay. >> volunteers with the red cross went door to door throughout the neighborhood to ensure every

home has a working smoke detector. republicans on capitol hill is going full ahead on their tax plan. the house and senate has proposed their on versions and the goal is to merge the two bills into one. the center piece is tax cuts. there are differences in how those will be accomplished. >> both of these plans add to the deficit, $1.5 trillion is what will be added to the deficit over ten years and there's a real concern about what that would mean for the economy in the long run. >> the house is expected to take a vote next week. the senate will begin to debate in committee on monday. house minority leader nancy possessi pelosi has criticized republicans for working at the speed of light without helping for democrats. the plan was called a scam.
