good morning, bay area. let's get up and get going. this is "abc 7 mornings." good morning, thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with meteorologist lisa argen, tracking live doppler 7 for us. >> hey, chris, good morning to you. you can see the clouds from the east bay to the coast, and visibility has been reduced to three-quarters of a mile. napa, half moon bay. just a quarter mile in petition um napa, 52 in oakland, 54 in san jose. good morning, san mateo, 54 for you. we'll have the clouds throughout the morning hours.

mid- and upper 50s by noontime with partly cloudy conditions. more sunshine by 4:00. by the end of the day we're back into the 50s with a dry afternoon. that's not going to last. several chances of rain for the upcoming workweek, even perhaps squeeze some in by the end of the weekend, chris. >> lisa, thank you. they zoom through many east bay community a few weeks ago. this weekend, hundreds of motorcyclists may cause problems again. police say social media has tipped them off there may be sideshows with people coming from all over the state. abc 7 news reporter katie utehs has more on what police are doing to get ready. >> reporter: swarms of motorcycle riders took over east bay roadways late last month. police arrested five people and impounded vehicles. but it hasn't slowed side show activity. more is expected this weekend. oakland police captain randall wingate says the street stunts stretch the department thin. >> if you're a victim of a minor

crime, you'll have to wait, it will backlog us for an entire day. >> i've seen a couple of sideshows where they've pulled firearms out and shooting while spinning doughnuts. that's ridiculous. you shouldn't have to do that to have a good time. >> that sounds like a pretty dangerous situation so i think we should stop it somehow. >> reporter: opd and california highway patrol are bringing in extra officers and resources this weekend. >> when you have helicopters and planes in the air, you cannot outrun them. they'll patiently wait for you to stop and we'll take your car and you'll go to jail. >> they're going to do it regardless, whether it's legal or not legal. >> reporter: berkeley resident jose ruiz suggests finding a venue to keep the sideshows off the street. opd says it's working to deter participants and spectators. katie utehs, abc 7 news. a mountain lion captured in san francisco has been released back into the wild.

this video shows the big cat being tranquilized by game wardens. abc 7 news saw him being carried away. police cleared the area until the wardens moved in. neighbors were shocked to see a mountain lion so close to home. this man is keeping a close eye on his dog. >> i'm not going to let him out. he looks like a little bunny, he's a pomeranian. we watch out for the hawks and coyotes. >> the quivering you see there. the mountain lion was released last night. members of the puma project gave it an ear tag and gps monitor to track of this. new fallout after louis c.k. admitted in a long apology letter that he preyed on women over the years. the comedian and act has now lost his long time manager, his

publicist and the agency that represented him along with the cable networks that produced his projects. our sister station from los angeles has the story. >> reporter: a day after a new york times story involving comedian louis c.k. committing acts of sexual misconduct, he's come forward to say their stories are true. in a statement he writes, the power he had over these women is that they admired him and he wielded that power irresponsibly, adding, i can hardly wrap my head around the scope of hurt i brought on them. he ends the statement writing, i've spent my long and lucky career talking and saying anything i want. i will now step back and take a long time to listen. after c.k.'s admission, the fx network canceled its association with him. the editor in achieve of "movie city news" has been watching the recent sex scandals unfold. >> we're really at the beginning of it.

it's very much the beginning. there are a lot of stories to come out. >> reporter: hollywood is continuing to talk. in a facebook post friday, actress ellen page alleges director brett ratner verbally abused her on a movie set and outed her in front of the cast and crew when she was 18. he's been accused of sexual abuse and misconduct by at least six women, allegations he denies. page goes on to describe situations with other authority figures that occurred while she was a minor. >> the past can be riya re-adjudicated. that's really unimportant in the scheme of things. what's important now is move forward. we have to find an answer. >> reporter: anthony edwards naming writer-producer gary goddard as his abuser. edwards met goddard when he was 12 and he says goddard arrested him for years and raped his best friend. edwards writes, "shame can

thrive easily when we are isolated but it loses its power when people come together to share their common experiences." >> my hope is it will change things. my fear is we're in a twitter world where nothing changes for more than a week. a driver slammed into a gas station, caused a fiery explosion, and lived to tell about it. it happened yesterday afternoon at the chevron at the pinole valley road. the pictures look like a scene out of a movie. the driver got out and amazingly was not injured. new details on what standard the north bay wildfires. pg&e claims it does not own the power line that may have sparked the flames. our media partner the mercury news reports a pg&e court filing claims a third party owned, installed, and maintained the electrical equipment. the utility company is facing 15 wildfire related lawsuits. 22 people died and at least 4500 structures burned in last

month's fires. thousands of dollars for north bay fire victims. the bay area's muslim community got together in the south bay last night for a fundraiser. organizers saying we're all neighbors. abc 7 news reporter katie marzullo has the story now from fremont. >> i can't just stand and watch as someone else is doing it. >> reporter: she watched the north bay fires unfold on tv and knew she wanted to help. her dad owns royal palace banquet hall in fremont. >> he connected a few people, those people connected more people. it just grew. >> reporter: hundreds of people came. speakers included spiritual leaders and united states congress men. >> every time these disasters have happened, i've seen our community come together. >> reporter: the community here is muslim. >> as muslims we believe god didn't say to love your muslim neighbor. god said love your neighbor. >> over 40 lives have been lost and thousands of homes.

so the smallest thing we can do to help our fellow neighbors is an honor. >> reporter: the money raised will go to islamic relief usa. >> we focus on the people either who were not insured or the people who did not for whatever reason qualify for fema support. >> reporter: organizers hope this event raises at least $100,000 for fire victims. in fremont, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. ♪ metallica, dead and company and several other bay area bands helped raise $17 million thursday night for fire victims. the money will go to the tipping point emergency relief fund which helps low income communities affected by the fires. the relief fund has raised a total of $23 million. happening today, sonoma county is hosting a resource fair to connect fire victims with government debris removal programs. today's fair is at the utilities

field office in santa rosa from 10:00 until noon. if you miss it, don't worry, there's another fair tomorrow at the santa rosa veteransand mond. caltrans will bring down the old eastern span of the bay bridge. this is caltrans video from two weeks ago when three piers were imploded. traffic will be briefly stopped today. no cars will be allowed on the bay bridge for about 30 minutes during the blasting period, which is expected to take place sometime between 6:00 and 8:00 this morning. caltrans says it's finishing the work a year ahead of schedule, which will save taxpayers nearly $10 million. meteorologist lisa argen is here now. lisa, you've been keeping an eye on the fog in some parts of the bay area. >> yeah, very foggy in the north bay from yesterday's rain, that moisture already really creating

some havoc on the ground with the dew point and the temperature about the same there. we're looking at mild numbers, in the 50s for most of you, a few 40s in san ramon and livermore will finally get some sunshine today. enjoy it. we'll see another system coming our way. i'll time it out for you and talk about perhaps a stronger system at the end of my seven-day outlook. also ahead, a brazen dog theft in the east bay. have you seen this yorkie? it was a little difficult, a little emotional. >> reliving the past can be difficult. but on this veterans day weekend, local students are on a mission to make sure we never forget. that goes beyond assuming beingredients are safe...ood to knowing they are.

welcome back, everyone. a live look outside from our abc 7 exploratorium camera at pier 15. thanks so much for waking up with us here on "abc 7 mornings" lisa argen returns in a little bit for the full accuweather forecast. you can see fog over this part of san francisco. panic at the orlando international airport after a blast in the terminal. people thought it was a gunshot. police found an overheated lithium battery camera caused the explosion. it took hours for passengers to go through security again, causing delays and declarations. hurricane maria is being blamed for a bag shortage causing alarm at hospitals across the country. the hurricane forced several baxter international plants to close, greatly reducing the supply of iv's. hospitals are facing shortages even if they don't use baxter.

iv bags are being brought in from australia and ireland but will only meet 10% of national demand. a dog owner in oakland is pleading to get his stolen yorkshire terrier back. take a good look. this was taken sunday at 1:00 p.m. from a car in front of the guadalajara restaurant. a box truck is shown driving through the parking lot, pulling around to the other side. a man gets out of the truck, jumps over the fence, then after a few minutes, somehow manages to break in and take the dog right as a customer in a white van watches it all happen. the man ran off and drove away with biscuit. if you have any information you're asked to call oakland police. honoring our veterans. and in marin county, there's a special project to make sure their stories live on for generations to come. abc 7 news reporter elissa harrington shows us that project

that is paying tribute to hundreds of bay area vets. >> it was a little difficult. it was a little emotional at times for me. >> reporter: sean stevens still gets tears in his eyes thinking about his years in afghanistan with the national guard. >> war is not videogames. it is forever. the scars can be physical and they can be mental. >> reporter: his experiences forever changed his life and now will forever live on in the library of congress. stevens is one of 200 bay area veterans who have been interviewed for an oral history project called "honoring our marin veterans." the people asking the questions, high schoolers. >> we ask a bunch of questions, and those interviews with paperwork and logs of the audio will go to the library of congress for preservation of their stories. >> reporter: the mission is to interview all living bay area vets so their stories can be shared with future generations. >> it's really about day to day

and the everyday people that have been fighting to preserve the liberty and the freedom that we have as a country. >> reporter: ted cohen fought in vietnam, the korean war and world war ii. he was stationed along the the e german border. >> it taught me how great it is to live in the united states by looking across that border and seeing what those people are going through. >> reporter: he never takes this country or our freedoms for granted. elissa harrington, abc 7 news. u.s. marines raising the flag on iwo jima in world war ii. joe rosenthal was one of them. >> it was truly a miracle that he got this picture carrying a camera that probably weighed at least ten pounds and was big and

bulky. >> you can find and sign that petition online. we have a link on our website, abc7news.com. there's also a tribute to that iconic moment on a hilltop in crockett just off interstate 80, put there by an east bay man as a tribute to his brother who was a u.s. marine. the marine corps marked its 242nd anniversary yesterday. the national park service is encouraging people to get outside in honor of veterans day. all weekend long all california national parks are waiving their entry fees. that include yosemite and many more. happening today, san jose will salute military veterans with an annual parade. you're watching video from last year's event. first there will be a ceremony at plaza de caesar chavez. then the parade begins at west santa clara street and highway 87. other bay area cities holding parades today include

petaluma, antioch and marin city. the starting locations and start times for those parades are on your screen. there are lots of freebies for veterans this weekend. go to our website, abc7news.com. we have a list of discounts and freebies from meals to haircuts. be aware, many of the discounts do require proof of your veteran status. money will definitely help north bay fire victims get their lives back to normal. but sometimes a bike helps just as much. abc 7 news was on seminary drive in mill valley where firefighters were rolling out donated bikes, both new and used, onto trucks. the bikes will be handed out to adults and children with addresses listed as destroyed on the official damage inspection report from cal fire. >> the need for helping people that lost everything, it's the least we can do. we just felt like after going up there and seeing it, we wanted to do something. and this a way that everyone can give back. >> the bikes will be delivered

today between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the sonoma county sheriff's office in santa rosa. happening today, the cub scouts and boy scouts are donating food to the san francisco marin food bank. last year they donated more than 30,000 pounds of food. the annual scouting for food campaign is the largest food drive benefiting the food bank each year. the food bank says it will be a very busy weekend with thanksgiving coming up in less than two weeks. we have fog around the bay primarily up in the north bay around napa, quarter mile visibility there in dense fog, as well as on petaluma on the coast. we'll see clouds linger around 1:00 and we'll get into more sunshine. it's 55 in the city, 54 in san josé and gilroy.

on the coast, 48. 51 oakland and mountain view. another vantage point from the bay bridge. we have a few 40s. for everyone, yeah, a little bit cooler to start out with those mid-40s in napa, 48 by the delta, 53 in concord and up in the north bay, 52 in santa rosa. this is emeryville. our forecast highlights areas of fog. the cool conditions this morning with the sun and cloud mix for veterans day. looking at rain coming in late sunday. so the weekend really is dry. you may notice some increasing clouds in the north bay. it's going to be pretty late. it won't ruin any plans. but as you get into your monday morning commute, that's when things change and it looks like all of us will be getting our heads wet. this is the forecast animation for today. notice it takes some time for the clouds to thin out. by about noon, 1:00, we'll see that sun. but it's going to be gray for much of the morning hours. so we have a dry saturday to enjoy. then we'll bring in our storm impact scale for late sunday

into monday, primarily monday with the morning rain showers anywhere from a couple of hundredths to perhaps 8/10ths of an inch of rain. sunday, by 6:00, you'll notice not much going on. by midnight, some showers in the north bay. the morning commute featuring much of the activity north, then it sinks south and pushes across the bay throughout the afternoon. that's about the end of we go through the evening commute, that should be dry. rainfall amounts look like this. notice the darker shade of blue up here in the north from calistoga from santa rosa, perhaps a quarter inch in oakland. as it moves into the south bay, like many of the systems of the past couple of weeks, it really does wash out and not much to deliver there from mountain view to san jose. today, we're looking at cool highs with partly to mostly sunny conditions. 61 in san francisco, 64 in fremont, palo alto 65. overnight tonight, a few cloud around, keeping the numbers in the 40s to near 50.

thanks so much for choosing abc 7 news. i'm chris nguyen. here's meteorologist lisa argen, tracking the conditions where you live. hi, lisa. >> hey, chris, good morning to you. it's cooler out there. we certainly have some patchy dense fog. starting with the temperatures, low 40s in clear lake. it's 46 in napa, 51 in oakland. good morning, san jose, 55 for you, with 49 in livermore. in the east bay, fog not a factory. pat al petaluma, half moon bay, you could run into dense fog this morning. 12 degrees cooler in napa, nine degrees cooler on the coast. you can see low clouds through the exploratorium camera. hazy sunshine arrives for a partly cloudy late morning, then a sunny afternoon. highs will be in the mid-60s by about 4:00 bayside and inland.

we'll see that early sunset just after 5:00. we'll talk about our next rain chance, which we may squeeze in by late tomorrow, chris. >> lisa, thank you. alabama senate candidate roy moore is denying a claim that he had sexual encounters with a 14-year-old girl. in a radio interview with sean hannity, moore called leigh corfman's claim, quote, completely false and misleading and says he didn't know her from anybody. corfman said the encounter was in 1979 when moore was 32 and she was 14. three other women claim moore either asked them out or took them on dates when he was an adult and they were underage. moore says he doesn't remember dating teenagers as an adult and says that would be inappropriate. he says the claims are politically motivated. congressman mo cana says he believes moore's supporters should withdraw their support.

>> every elected leader should make that clear. where do they stand? >> two republican senators withdrew their endorsements of moore yesterday after his radio interview. time now, 5:32. house democrats are hoping that they can win back a majority in the house next year after three more republicans announced their retirement this week. altogether, 29 republicans have decided not to seek reelection compared to only 11 democrats. the latest is house judiciary committee chairman bob goodlatte of virginia. goodlatte's district will likely not flip to a democrat. president trump won that district by 25 points last year. republicans on capitol hill are going full steam ahead with their tax reform plans with just 16 working days left before christmas. the house and senate have proposed their own versions. and the goal is to merge the two bills into one by the end of the year. the centerpiece of both bills is tax cuts but there are major differences in how those would be accomplished. >> corporate america is definitely going to see the senate bill as a loss.

both of these plans add to the deficit, $1.5 trillion is what would be added to the deficit over ten years. and there is a real concern about what that would mean for the overall economy in the long run. >> the house is expected to take a vote next week. the senate will begin debate on theirs in committee on monday. on that note, house minority leader nancy pelosi has criticized republicans for working at the speed of light in the dark of night to get this bill passed quickly without from democrats. congresswoman pelosi calls the plan a scam. >> reporter: republicans in california have distanced themselves from their constituents in new york and new jersey when it comes to he thought deductions for state and local taxes. these deductions are made at the time of filing yearly taxes. people in new york, new jersey, and california have benefitted from these deductions because the cost of living is so high.

in the end, if the tax reform plan passes, taxpayers in those states who itemize their deductions would end up paying more. >> shame on the republicans in california for selling their constituents down the river. >> reporter: but the chairman of the republican party in san francisco says it makes sense to him. >> i think california republicans are really focused on the egalitarian aspect, the idea that if we eliminate a lot of these deductions, everybody aross the country, even in california, will get a benefit from it. >> reporter: and with regard to those massive wildfires in northern california, people there will still be able to take a deduction on their losses from their 2017 tax returns. but after that, under the proposed republican plans, those deductions will disappear. the same applies for earthquakes but not for hurricanes. california, a blue state, doesn't have hurricanes. >> it's just mean-spirited.

but remember this. 14 republicans from california voted, knowing that was in the bill. >> reporter: pelosi picked a fire station in san francisco to criticize the republican tax plan. meantime, republicans have said they plan on steam rolling their tax plan through congress. in san francisco, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. there will be no formal meeting between president trump and vladimir putin at the asian cooperation summit in vietnam. the two shook hands as the leaders gathered for a group photo. the president began his visit by attacking economic issues, specifically trade. he proclaimed his administration will not tolerate trade abuses and that countries must follow the rules if they want to do business with the united states. >> we cannot achieve open markets if we do not ensure fair market access. in the end, unfair trade undermines us all.

>> vietnam is the president's second to last stop on his 11-day, five-country tour. he'll wrap up his trip in the philippines. in new hampshire, the national weather service estimates the temperature there will drop to a record low six degrees today. it's even colder on the mt. washington observatory because of 105-mile-per-hour wind gusts. this weather observer decided to give them a test. it's minus 40 degrees fahrenheit. but he said it was a blast. thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. many people are already thinking ahead to christmas and starting their holiday shopping. this year, you might want to turn to technology for some creative ideas. abc news reporter marci gonzalez has a look at some of the top tech gifts of the season, some from right here in the bay area. >> reporter: the latest in technology could be the greatest gifts under the tree this year. new innovative gadgets on the market in time for the holidays.

>> reporter: and experts say the time to start crossing some of these high demand tech gifts off your shopping list is now. >> the temptation is always there to wait until black friday to do your shopping because you'll get great deals, which is awesome but a lot of these do sell out really quickly. >> reporter: marci gonzalez, abc news, los angeles. a new housing site in san francisco is dedicated to providing supportive housing for one specific group, chronically homeless veterans. the city will open the auburn hotel by the end of the month. it's on ministry in the soma neighborhood. each unit will have furniture, a mini fridge, microwave, and tv. the auburn hotel includes 70 units total. last month the city counted 100 chronically homeless veterans on the streets. this will be the fourth housing project the city has opened to provide a permanent and supportive place for the homeless to live. still ahead on "abc 7 mornings," a 99-year-old veteran received a well-deserved and

looking at more rain. we're getting a little bit in here but these systems have been falling apart by the time they hit the south bay. we're dealing with fog, particularly along the coast and in the north bay. be careful out there if you're headed out early. you'll notice that the visibility is worse in the north bay, certainly around napa. and with that moisture at the surface, also looking at some cooler numbers this morning. so we're looking at numbers anywhere from four to five degrees cooler in the east bay, 12 degrees colder up in napa. so looking at a sunny afternoon. it will take a while to get there with the clouds staying put throughout the mid-morning hours. it's 55 in the city, 51 mountain view, oakland, good morning to you, 54 in gilroy. we're looking at a little bit of fog in the city, visibility pretty good though east of the cal did he caldecott tunnel. 46 in napa. sfo, no delays yet.
