burned. >> heavy rains opened the door to mud slides. first christian spencer is here with the forecast. >> we have scattered of showers right now. we have a trail of showers moving through the golden gate area. over the east bay we have a wider area of ran moving out towards vista. on the shore we'll still have pockets of rain forming. this storm ranks 1 on the impact scales. we can expect another tenth of an inch to maybe look what's coming our way on wednesday as we look at our rain chances over the next several days. a stronger storm accompanied by heavi heavier wind and rain. it ranks 2 on the impact scale.

we're going from ranking number 1 to number 2. active weather ahead in a few minutes. speaking of the upcoming storms raises the risk of mud slides. you can see drone view 7 showing us what's left of the mountain grove view in santa rosa. abc 7 news was in santa rosa this morning as video technician sent tiny cameras into journd grand pipes to check for damage from last month's fires. over the weekend they found some pipes that were melted. >> you see it kind of deter rate away from years of use. to be melted out the ground is crazy. >> a lot of work ahead. 140 miles of pipe to inspect. we're past the deadline for homeowners in the north bay to allow the government to clean up damage on their property.

it develops. after a year of the ghost ship fire in oakland the city released a memo updating the public on the changes its made to ensure this tragedy won't happen again. 30 people died in the warehouse last december. oakland's task force has focused on housing, foort ability and safety. it has doubled the number of inspectors and its improved communication wean the fire department and building inspectors. working with property owners to fix code violations. the fire department has a backlog of a thousand state mandated inspections. there are still 21 open cases involving buildings with known violations. a hit-and-run driver left a woman dead in the san francisco street over the weekend. police are hoping you can help catch him. kaebs 7 news reporter

woodrow shows you the life that was lost. >> reporter: teresa gonzalez's daughter says her mother lovedler and her sister fiercely. >> i want everyone to remember my mom as the sweet kind person she was. >> reporter: she was vacation lg in hawaii when she learned the news about her mother. gonzalez had been listening to a band at the bowling ally. an employee says gonzalez was waiting at the bus stop afterwards for another employee. but for whatever reason when the bus came, decided to take a ride share instead. >> she decided to get across the street to get in the uber, that's wen she was hit. >> reporter: uber says the suspected driver was a caucasian man in his 30s. with a pencil thin mush stash

man was wrongfully convicted. a former reality t.v. contestant is suing john evans, whose testimony was considered instrumental in the steinle trial. nbc reporter lyanne melendez with more on this. >> reporter: john evans was brought in on october 30th as someone with firearm's training. in court evans testified that the defendant intended to shoot kate steinle and this was no accidental shooting. looking of minots from the trial evans testified that garcia serrate pointed the gun in her direction, pulled the trigger and killed kate steinle. the prosecution asked him why. he responded, it's the only reasonable explanations. today evans was meant to be a rebuttal witnesses for the prosecution but his name was scratched off.

in two occasions evans testified at the trial of ja maul rasheed true love. here's the time line, true love was accused of murder in which he was convicted in 2010, then that conviction was overturned in 2014. in 2015 true love was acquitted in a second trial. evans is now being sued by true love for his friendsic statement it was inconsistent with what other experts found. james morris, an expert was one of them. >> there are appropriate people in san francisco who can testify about these thing. >> reporter: shell casings found on the ground show the gunman was running up hill on blithe dale avenue. contradicting the testimony of a witness. evans also lied under oath about reading an important study done by the san francisco police department. because true love is alleging his civil rights were violated the case will be heard in

before the morning commute begins. there'll still be wet spots. skies will be bright and will be drying out through the day tomorrow. over night look for temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. a couple of spots will stay in low 50s. tomorrow highs will range from 60 at the coast, to lower to mid-60s around the by the way and inland as well. then comes wednesday and the stronger storm which ranks 2 on the impact scale. it could produce heavy rainstorms. wind will gust from 20 to 40 miles per hour. forecast it ration starting wednesday at 8:00 in the morning. we'll already see ligt rain in the northern part of our view area. steady heavy rain will sweep in. we'll be right at widespread light tomorrow. maybe some heavy downpours. that's push south ward into wednesday and thursday morning.

anthony, abc 7 news. a push to promote stronger holding in san jose. abc 7 news was outside city hall today where supporters marched to encourage city counsel to vote on proposals if favor of rentals. >> right now there's people in the hospital because they are so nervous about being evicted from their apartments for no reason. >> tomorrow the counsel will consider two options for rent control. one will increase to 5% a year and will prevent landlords to increases to rent the following years. landlords would be able to bank those increases, both options law landlords to pass on some building improvement and maintenance cost to tenants. tomorrow's meeting starts at 1:30 in the afternoon.

new at 6:00 this bus crash as a result of a crow di driver -- drowsy driver. the crash last year killed four and injured 20. only one passenger is not hurt or killed. it happened in livingston arounn 3:00 a.m.investigators discovered that the driver had a hours of sleep in the last 40 hours leading up to the crash. the company had buses fail 8 of 29 inspections, a failure rate 5 times higher than the national average. the safety administration should have put the bus company out of service and in the future should take more action to keep dangerous vehicles off the roads. you probably know her as the wife of nba store steph curry.

if you have the abc 7 news app you received this push alert about an earthquake that rattled south bay today. it was centered in gonzalez, east of salinas. the shaking was felt by thousands of people from monterey all the way to san francisco. >> the garage was like -- and everything was shaking in my office. i have glass shelves and everything. it lasted maybe 5 seconds. >> this is a fairly unpopulated area so damage is minimal. areas with more population certainly would have caused more damage. >> the quake was felt through the northern quake area. no major damage or problems reported as again as you heard from the seismologist. a powerful earthquake on the

iran/iraq border has devastated that region. reports with the death tolls of 445 and 7,000 injured. both numbers likely to rise. the 7.2 quake struck in western iran, as well as claiming several lives in northern iraq. half the casualties are from this town where the only hospital has been damagely damaged. the quake was so powerful it was felt more than 150 miles away in baghdad where u.s. troops reported fierce shaking. iran's government declared tomorrow a day of national mourning. president trump headed home to the u.s. following a summit in the philippines. the president says he made progress pressing the issue of north korea's threats to use nuclear weapons. mr. trump boasted about the trump of trades. >> we want our patterns in the region to be strong, independent and prosperus.
