there you go. rocks are just falling down. >> and an abc 7 news viewer sent us these pictures and videos of a small rock slide in the observing hills. >> good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm kristen sze. a dog walker crashed her truck in san francisco. this afternoon's accident startled a group of dogs in the sunset after the camper shell came off. >> the pickup smashed into a home near 26th avenue. three dogs ran away from the crash scene. animal control is helping reunite the other dogs with their owners. >> the dog walker and child riding in the truck were hurt but are expected to be okay. >> we saw a lot of rain in the last 24 hours or so and it's still coming down. >> let's check in with sandhya patel. we're seeing most of the showers in the south bay. check out live doppler 7. i'm going to take you in to street level radar where it is slippery from morgan hill, monterey road heading into the

gilroy area. you will notice some light showers. also around the delta we're seeing spotty showers, oakley, out to bethel island. the showers are falling right now. this storm was a soaker. look at these totals. 4.78 in ben lomond. almost two inches in observing. not far behind concord. livermore 1.08. on the storm impact scale this is a level one through tonight. expect scattered light showers, an additional third of an inch with low visibility. i'm going to time this all out for you through the rest of tonight and let you know if there are any more storms coming as we head to the holiday coming up. dan and kristen? the rain pounded the south bay especially the santa cruz mountains. driving on highway 17 was no picn picnic. janine de la vega joins us live with more. >> reporter: kristen, it is gray, it is dreary, and it is

wet. we are here at the summit and it's hard to predict when slides are going to happen along here. those who drive highway 17 know the dangers of the santa cruz mountains. >> i'm scared i will get hit by a landslide or a tree. >> reporter: our own news photographer was hit by a mudslide earlier this year on 17. a construction worker died doing repair work on that slide. we revisited the area and it appears it's holding up. caltrans says they've stabilized the hillside, watching problem areas. it depend on the rain and wind. >> right now it looks pretty good. like i said, different you never know. >> reporter: crews were along the road clearing debris and mud from the drains to prevent flooding. the rain was relentless most of

the day. people generally drive too fast when it's wet. >> i just drove i think 40 miles an hour or 35. i drove slow and safe because you see crashes all the time. >> reporter: all the more reason to slow down for the soggy conditions. janine de la vega, abc news. a series of storms create add big sinkhole. you can see the mess made back at that time. laura anthony has the story about the return of ream boulevard. >> reporter: with the last few shovels of mud, the fix is finally in in moraga. it crippled a part of downtown 20 months ago and a key section finally reopened. >> this year has been a year like no other.

>> reporter: this small town doesn't have a big budget and the price tag for the sinkhole prompted city leaders to declare an emergency that allowed them to apply for state and federal assistance. >> that is a tremendous amount of money for a little town like this to put out. and so that's why we were responsible to call for a fiscal emergency. >> reporter: the sinkhole was sufficient on businesses as customers had to navigate a maze of street signs and closures to get into the parking lot. >> we ran a lot of specials. we did extra advertising in the local newspaper. and just trying to draw the community in. >> reporter: this hasn't been the only major challenge these past couple of years, just two miles down the road another $3 million repair project is still under way. that is the construction of a temporary bridge along canyon road after the old one failed.

>> close to $7 million and when we began taking away our general reserves the challenges, although we are getting a reimbursement, it won't be for many years. >> reporter: the temporary bridge is expected to open by the end of the month. it was just pouring in danville today. abc 7 news was on diablo road where it was really coming down. look at this video. as you might expect san ramone creek is running fast. this was a really small stream spilling over a week ago but look at it now. >> those of us living near creeks with a history of flooding might want to start thinking about the sandbags and everyone please be careful near those rising creeks. we are in rainy season now so download the weather app. you'll get updates from our weather team and monitor the forecast. let's move on now. a murderer who escaped from a hawaiian psychiatric facility is telling quite a story to abc 7

news reporter matt keller. randall saito was captured in stockton yesterday, and he spoke with matt this morning. >> reporter: inside the san joaquin county jail a piece of safety glass separated me from the man a prosecutor in hawaii says fills all the criteria of a classic serial killer. 59-year-old randall saito. the bay area quickly became familiar with saito after details of his escape became public on tuesday. he was committed to a psychiatric hospital in oahu in 1981 after being acquitted by reason of insanity for the murder of a woman he had shot and stabbed multiple times. in 1993 a court denied saito's request for conditional release saying he suffers from sexual sadism and necrophilia, something he says he made up before his trial in an attempt to avoid prison. >> since i have been in the hospital, i told them i

fabricated that. so, sorry, to get to the state hospital. >> reporter: he says he had about $6,000 and fake driver's license when he escaped. how did you get the ids? >> i can't tell you that, i'm sorry. >> reporter: through the hop hospital, hospital staff, from the outside? >> i can't tell you that. >> reporter: saito took a cab to the airport in honolulu and chartered a plane to maui. he made it through tsa with a fake id and chose san jose because it was the cheapest ticket in to california. saito landed sunday night and took a cab to a motel. >> i couldn't believe i actually made it. >> reporter: saito spent time looking to buy a car in san jose. but unable to do that he took another cab to stockton. it's an area he's familiar with after spending three years in nearby lodi with his family when he was a teenager. after spending three nights in stockton with at least one trip to walmart to buy a phone, he decided it was time to move on.

a cab driver agreed to drive him to reno on wednesday. but when they stopped for gas on the way out police swooped in and arrested saito. >> police officers converged on me. i'm not going to fight. >> reporter: the final question, why did he escape? after 37 years in the psychiatric hospital saito says he had an exemplary record with no violence or drugs. this escape was his chance to prove he was not a danger to anyone and deserved a conditional release. >> i wanted more time so i had all this time to do something bad, but i didn't. i did not because that's not who i am. >> reporter: the next step for saito is a court appearance. he faces a felony for his escape. matt keller, abc 7 news. san pablo police are looking for help finding suspect in a terrifying armed robbery caught on tape.

there are calls for al franken to resign after leeann accused he groped her without her consent. a congresswoman says there should be an ethics investigation. franken apologized and says he will gladly cooperate with an investigation. from capitol hill to silicon valley more people across the country are sharing their stories of sexual assault and harassment as part of the me too movement. but as abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen explains, many women are reluctant to speak out. >> reporter: in the tech world men are more likely to control which startups are funded. a prime opportunity for some to abuse their power.

>> he was kind of cornering me and i'm sitting there laughing along with it and leaning back and leaning back. >> reporter: her experience, sadly, isn't uncommon. a number of women in the field of tech have kept quiet about being sexually harassed fearing speaking out could impact their ability to raise money. female entrepreneurs received just $1.5 billion in funding last year compared to nearly $58 billion for men, another example of the gender imbalance in tech. >> i haven't met one female founder who hasn't experienced either sexual harassment or discrimination based on her gender. >> reporter: five years ago ellen powell filed a gender bias lawsuit. she lost in the courtroom but some say she succeeded in helping to change the conversation about acceptable behavior in the work place. >> there's women that are

standing up and speaking out and i think that is causing this shift that hopefully will continue as the years go by. >> reporter: for now the push for equality continues. >> i've had investors that come in and after i talked to them they'll ask me, are you and your co-founder dating? or are you dating anyone on the team? but they don't ask that to my co-founder or other friends who are teams of males. >> reporter: in san francisco chris nguyen, abc 7 news. an ak vis donated more than $30,000 to a san francisco organization that supports the immigrant community. abc 7 news was in the mission district. baez donated some of the proceeds from her first ever arts show held in mill valley in september. her friend did exhaustive research to find an organization to benefit. >> where was the best place that would use the money most wisely. and so here we are with a check

for $30,000. >> the organization says the donation will pay for renewal fees of daca recipients they're helping. president trump says he'll end the program in march. >> california's two u.s. senators appealed on behalf of those whose documents were destroyed in last month's wildfires. democrats dianne feinstein and harris sent this letter to the department of homeland security. it urges officials to waive fees charged to residents of nine counties who lost paperwork in last month's fires. the theme of helping will redefine a garage sale in sonoma county. saturday's garage nonsale begins at 9:00 in the morning. people will put household items, clothing, furniture, that sort of thing in their driveways. organizers tell us all of the items will be free for fire victims. you can find out more on our website, abc7news.com. very creative idea. and now to consumer news,

looking at whether overdraft protection is a good idea. >> how good is the protection? the consumer financial protection bureau finds that consumers who opt in to debit card or atm overdraft are still at risk of incurring fees. that's despite recent regulatory changes. so here are some suggestions on how to avoid overdraft fees or opt out completely. overdraft fees can range from annoying to painful. for instance with wells fargo and bank of america they're $35. >> it just feels kind of punitive and sneaky and just an extra way for a bank to make more money. >> overdraft fees, they are taking your money away. >> collecting fees is good businesses for banks and credit unions generating an estimated $33 billion a year. >> that's big money and at least two large banks have been accused of using deceptive

doppler 7. things are quieting down compared to earlier today when we were getting drenched. east bay right now, you'll notice that, yes, the commute is still slippery around moraga way, concord boulevard. so we're taking you to street level. on the peninsula, san bruno, heading into half moon bay, still some light, spotty showers. and from morgan hill to gilroy, some rain, pretty steady. i do want to show you the sierra, chain controls on state route 88. you look at that picture and this is what we really need. snowfall has been adding up in the mountains but it has not been snowing at lake level. that will be changing, the snow level will be dropping as we head to the next few hours. it's already starting to come down. winter storm warning until 4:00 a.m. tomorrow for the entire sierra looking at up to 21 inches at the highest elevations.

together will be in the north bay until 9:00 p.m. could see along the peninsula and at 10:00 p.m. notice the spotty line of showers. it's this moist flow. we've had this atmospheric river, the pineapple express, feeding the storm which is why we've had so much storm. it's the same setup keeping us in this moist pattern and will keep drizzle going. watch out for the fog. low visibility during the commute. 40s, 50s. you will need that extra time. it won't be horrible like it was this morning but at least it will be a slow go because of the fog. afternoon highs, 50s, 60s, sunny. download the accuweather app and check out the temperatures. live doppler 7 as well. the seven day forecast morning fog giving way to sun. we'll brighten it up for your weekend. sunshine both saturday and sunday. not such a clear forecast monday through thanksgiving. a chance of rain on monday, level one system. really the best chance in the north bay. tuesday a chance of showers, a chance of rain wednesday. and then thanksgiving morning

today the oakland a's announced the design firms that will help plan and possibly build a ballpark near laney college and lake merritt. tabbed is snowhetta. two others are massachusetts-based and studio t-squared. the a's hope to have a ballpark open for the 2023 season. draymond green is not backing down from his belief the word owner should not be used in regards to professional sports teams. green addressed the issue during an appearance at harvard university. he provide this had video. the two-time all-star argued against the term owner on instagram writing, quote, to be owned by someone just sets a bad precedent to start. mark cuban fired back saying
