run away pickup truck. tonight we are learning more about a bizarre accident in san francisco. good evening. i'm kristin sze. >> and i'm dan ashley. the strange scene played out in the city's sunset district late this afternoon. a dog walker suddenly crashed her pickup. some dogs escaped and tonight the second of the two dogs that ran away was just found moments ago. >> abc7 news reporter lisa is live where the truck ended up. lisa? >> reporter: kristen, the frantic search ended a short time ago in a good way, meaning that dog has been found as you mentioned. but it all started when a truck parked p this hill carrying nine dogs and a toddler suddenly started rolling backwards downhill and ended up hitting this house. a search party of professional dog walkers and dog lovers is out scouring the avenues looking for this male black lab mix. >> we've got sunset down there and a whole lot of problems because apparently these dogs

are not from the neighborhood, too. >> reporter: kiwi and two other dogs escaped from the back of this truck just moments after it crashed. but kiwi is the only one still missing. >> i asked how they got out of the vehicle, not 100% sure. might have just been a flight response. they saw it was something that was traumatic to them. they got out of harms way. >> reporter: the traumatic event was when the pickup truck they were in was parked, but then suddenly started rolling downhill. >> double parked and just started free falling like, i guess the parking brake wasn't on or anything. >> reporter: the female driver couldn't stop the truck as it hit two parked cars before crashing into this house. the woman's young child was also in the truck, though wasn't hurt. >> one of the dogs is mine. >> reporter: the dog's owners rushed to pick them up. most of the dogs calmly waited in the truck's bed. police meantime are investigating. in san francisco, lisa amin gleegs, abc7 news. >> an update on last month's

wildfires? sonoma county, they said in a facebook video three more victims have been identified, including the person who was 101 years old. the death toll in sonoma county stands at 23. they warned deputies are getting reports of scam artists targeting fire victims. you can go to abc7news.com to find tips from the sheriff to avoid becoming a victim of fraud. >> a safe way employee is in the hospital tonight after being stabbed by suspected shop lifter in berkeley. police say the victim was attacked after confront being the suspect at the safeway on shadok avenue. the suspect then left the store right before police arrived this afternoon. >> santa clara county has recorded its first flu related death of the season. they are not releasing the person's name, age or town, just that the adult was under age 65 and passed away earlier this month. officials said the person had not received a flu shot this year and had other medical

conditions that put them at increased risk of severe complications from the flu. >> a murderer who escaped from a hawaii psychiatric facility and came through the bay area says he broke out to prove that he was not a danger to anyone. abc7 news reporter matt keller spoke with randall sito inside san joaquin county jail today. >> i can't believe i actually made it. it was surreal. >> he says he had about $6,000 and fake driver's licenses in his pocket when he escaped sunday morning. and took a plane to san jose because it was the cheapest ticket to california. >> how did you get the i.d.s? through the hospital? hospital staff or someone from the outside? >> [ inaudible ]. >> he then took a cab to stockton, telling matt that he was familiar with the area because he lived there when he was a teenager. that's where sheriff's deputies arrested him on wednesday as he was trying to take another cab to reno. sito faces a felony for his

>> reporter: with that, sacred heart community services new truck is ready to work and not a moment too soon. >> there is a great need during the holiday season when people don't have enough and they're trying to stretch their budget. >> reporter: this truck wasn't exactly in sacred heart's budget. it took a year 1/2 to raise the $125,000 to raise the money for the purchase. reliable wheels are priceless. > it will allow us to do a food pantry distribution at our schools and we can take the food where it's needed the most. >> also when there's emergencies in our community like there was during the floods in the past year, we can also take aid to those communities as well. >> reporter: the old truck is vee tiring. she's put in 15 years and more than 200,000 miles. the new truck is bigger and better. . it has a hydraulic lift and side door that will make loading and unloading donations much easier. and it's so special, it's been given a name. >> started with the word heart,

an oakland woman is suing what's now the largest single-family rental giant in the nation. >> yeah, she claims in a lawsuit the company failed to make needed repairs on her rental property that would have let her keep her government-funded in-home day care. instead, she was forced to close. >> yes. 7 on your side michael finney joins us with the joint investigation with abc's brian ross. >> it's been interesting working together. merger of megalandlords, way point invitation homes became final today. the combined company now under the name invitation homes will be valued at $11 million, with 82,000 single-family homes, some right here in the east bay. vanessa tidied up her now shuttered child care in oakland. it is a head start affiliated program that was forced to close over a year ago. >> i guess i'm not ready to let go. it's been a part of me for so

long. >> she ran tender arms 21 years, the last three out of this home she rents from way point real estate group. in 2013 she applied to put a community garden in the backyard for the kids. but when her soil was tested, there was a problem. >> for some of the areas were over a thousand parts per million. >> dale haig ensays anything over 400 parts per million is considered unsafe for children and could affect their learning ability. those who over see affiliated head start facilities immediately placed a mat over the soil to prevent children from touching it as a temporary fix. alameda county offered to clean it up completely, but the lawsuit claims way point never turned in the application for that clean-up. despite three years of pleading from her and the county. >> i think that a responsible owner would act in a timely manner to address lead hazards. >> late last year the department

of social services head start program sent her this letter removing her from the program because concerns around hazardous lead soil from 2013 were not corrected. >> i lost my income. i lost the children. i lost the day care. >> in 2016 way point told the county and later 7 on your side the clean-up came with conditions it could not accept. waypoint did clean up the lead on its own but not until after she lost her day care. without her business and with her husband on disability, she got four months behind in her rent and waypoint began eviction proceedings. the parties settled. waypoint forgave $4,500 in rent and the church helped pay the rest. but she says she doesn't have the money to reopen. >> this has been my life's work for 20 something years, you know. and so it's kind of hard to just like let it go. >> and its response to the lawsuit waypoint denies each and

every allegation and said she is responsible for causing condition of the property. a joint investigation with abc's ryan ross looks at complaint from critics and tenants who claim way point often with slow to fix problems, but quick to threaten eviction. way point coo charles young said the company provides high quality homes in great neighborhoods adding its own internal surveys indicate a high satisfaction rating among tenants who have received repairs. he acknowledged a d-plus from the better business bureau and says his company is working to do better. >> what do you say about that grade, d-plus? that dpoesn't suggest you had this huge approval. >> we always want to continue to get better. >> that's pretty bad, isn't it? you get a d-plus at stan tord, you'd be in bad shape. >> we're proud of our 99% approval rating. >> coming up on night line he explores more complaints.

>> not at all. we're getting a break. sandhya patel is here with the forecast. >> the worst part of the storm has passed on. we're still dealing with some slick roadways. as you look at live doppler 7 right now, we have should light showers. i'm going to take you into street level radar here along the san mateo coast pacifica, terra nova boulevard, linda nova boulevard, monster a buena vista road, some light showers. and the same goes for the east bay from clairmont avenue, grizzly peak boulevard to san pablo dam road, i want to show you the percent of normal of our rainfall since september 1st. sfo 123%, oakland 112. san jose went up 76% normal just with today's storm. just a couple days ago it was 25% of average. san francisco 96, and santa rosa 112% of where you should be for this time of year. yes, the rainy season has just begun, but we're off to a good start. so, this is encouraging news.

i do want to show you the time lapse of the sunset. 4:57 for my emeryville camera. watch those clouds coming in. we still had some showers. then look at that beautiful peak of the sunset tonight as we take a look there. it was just a stunner this evening. we're going to be seeing a lot more sun as we head into the weekend. not in the sierra. chain controls right now on 50 and 88. it is coming down in the mountains and there is a winter storm warning until 4:00 a.m. tomorrow. so, additional snow fall up to 21 inches at the highest elevations, low visibility, i would just wait until the storm passes. the scattered snow showers tomorrow morning will give way to dry conditions for your weekend to enjoy the fresh powder. temperatures right now 40s, 50s, here's a look at the visibility. it's poor in half moon bay due to fog down to one mile. four miles at sfo. and so if you are traveling tomorrow, look at this picture. it's so murky from sfo camera. you will likely encounter delays due to low ceilings and possibly some isolated showers.
