live where you live, this is abc 7 flnews. >> happening now, thousands of people getting a head start on thanksgiving travel. i know it seems early. it's not. at sfo, it's expected to be the busiest travel day during the whole holiday season. thanks for joining us today, i'm regg reggie aqui. amy hollyfield has been at sfo since early this morning. amy, how long is it taking people to get through security? >> reporter: during the morning rush, reggie, we were noticing it was taking people about a half hour to get through security. it's quiet now. airport officials tell me they brought all the staff in that tey have to handle this day. they planned ahead.

the question is, did travelers? some were in shock when they arrived at sfo today. and saw lines snaking around the airport. >> i didn't think it would be this busy, but we got here, it was like oh my god, it's full. i think people would start traveling, like, next week on monday. >> reporter: the wednesday before thanksgiving has lost the title. sfo officials say this day, the friday before, has the honor of being the airport's busiest travel day of the year. sanik found this out the hard way last year when she arrived to find lines out the door. >> we missed our flight last time. we did decide do get here earlier today. >> reporter: stacey korea timed her wait in the security line. she was very worried her 12-year-old son, vincent, was going to miss his flight. they got here super early. >> i expected heavy crowd because of the thanksgiving holiday. i thought four hours would be sufficient. so i'm shocked. yeah. i'm disa pointed that he might

miss his nigflight. >> reporter: it wasn't looking good for them. the line for security stretched far beyond the ropes, this was after getting through the crowded ticket counter lines. she reported back to us, they got through security after a 25-minute wait. and we are happy to report vincent made it to his gate on time. isn't that a cute picture she sent us? officials say they noticed this trend a few years ago. they think it's because all of the schools take next week off. so people get out of town. they expect the next busy day to be next sunday when all these people come home. live at sfo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, you're totally right, that was a very cute picture. you know what, the weather is cute. thank goodness today wasn't yesterday, right, mike? all those people at the airport, that would have been a mis. >> oh, the connecting flight the, people trying to get their flight in to take off, would have been a nightmare yesterday. look at sfo now. it's gorgeous out there. total sunshine. look at the deep blue sky.

see from live doppler 7, there's no threat of wet weather. in fact, no delays at oakland, sfo, nor san jose. let's take a look around the rest of the country and everybody showing up goose eggs except for one. there in newark. 71 minute delay. trying to get into newark. otherwise flying across the country today, reggie, pretty easy, but next week, got several chances of rain coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. >> ah, today really was the day to go. okay, thanks, mike. there's a new allegation against senator al franken this morning coming from a bay area woman. a conservative radio host says franken harassed her. melanie morgan of novato says franken called her repeatedly on the phone. morgan made the allegations in a blog she co-founded called media equalizer. franken badgered her after the two had a political disagreement in 2000. in a separate inciden franken was forced to apologize for forcibly kissing another woman during a uso tour. and taking the photo you see

there while she was asleep on a plane heading home. radio host leeann tweeden who is in the photo spoke to "good morning america." >> i was belittled and humiliated. that's never funny. >> but you accept his apology now. >> yeah. i do accept it. i think he realized how people felt about it. now it's a different time. 2006 is not 2017. >> senator franken says he supports an ethics investigation into his behavior. amazon's transparent show may be prepping for its fifth season without its lead actor. amid harassment allegations against him. two women have now come forward claiming actor jeffrey tambor harassed them. a former assistant who worked for the actor accuse the him of inappropriate behavior. an actress claims tambor made unwanted sexual advances. writers of the show contemplated moving forward on the next scene without him. the actor is denying all the actions. a convicted killer who

escaped a hawaii mental institution is scheduled for a court date today. saito is awaiting extradition back to hawaii after a wild manhunt through san jose and eventually to stockton where police arrested him yesterday. today's hearing came one day after the 59-year-old spoke to abc 7 news from jail. he told matt keller he escaped to prove he was not a danger to anyone. >> i wanted more time so it would seem -- i had all this time to do something bad, you know what i mean, but i didn't. i did not. because that's not who i am. >> saito was committed in 1981 after being acquitted by reason of insanity for the murder of a woman. an update on last month's wildfires in sonoma county. the sonoma county sheriff identified three more victims including a person who was 101 years old. the death toll in sonoma county stands, it's the same, at 23. sheriff rob giorda dprno warned

deputies are getting scams targeting fire victims. go to abc7news.com to find tips from the sheriff to avoid being a victim of fraud. pg&e plans to chop down 23,000 fire-damaged trees to protect power lines in northern and central california, according to the "press democrat" the utility company is assessing the condition of trees following last month's wildfires. pg&e officials say the tree trimming should be complete by the end of the year. several lawsuits blame pg&e for poorly maintained power lines that may have started the north bay wild fires. pg&e previously stated in a court filing that a private power line may have started one fire. investigators in pennsylvania are looking for the cause of a spectacular fire that injured 20 people at a senior living facility flames broke out late last fight. it turned into a five-alarm fire and 100 people were inside. >> scary. i mean, there's a lot of people that really need help and they're all out in the street. and they need to be kept warm.

>> crews along with the police department and fire department entered this building, made numerous rescues and helped with evacuation. >> you can see there the roof collapsed as the fire spread to multiple buildings. many families were frantically looking for their relatives but we have some good news, everyone is okay. on monday, closing arguments are going to begin in the murder trial for the man accused of killing kate steinle. earlier this week, a judge ruled that jurors will be allow eed t consider a first-degree murder victim as well as second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. jose garcia zarate is facing second-degree murder charges in the death of steinle. she was killed in 2015. the defense is calling her death a freak accident. california finally out with new rules for recreational marijuana businesses. california will begin issuing those licenses january 1st for what's expected to be a multibillion dollar industry. the rules call for strict testing and tracking of all products.

from seed to sale. cannabis stores can't be within 600 feet of schools, shops have to close by 10:00 p.m., and have 24-hour video surveillance. and there will be limits of how much marijuana can go into edible products. the state will begin accepting online applications for temporary permits starting next month. and that will not be it as far as regulations go. that's because local cities are forming their own rules in addition to the state rules. a big event in san jose this morning. it is national adoption day. 29 kids and 24 families are making their adoptions official. abc 7 news reporter matt keller was there for the celebration. >> reporter: it's not every day you get to be a real superhero. >> it's a special day in my little guy loves superheroes. >> rafael. >> ninja turtle? >> yes. >> reporter: xavier is just about to turn 4 years old. he's lived with erica since he was just 2 months old. today, their adoption becomes

official. >> please raise your right hand. >> it's just amazing because it takes so long and to finally come to this beautiful moment with my family, it's absolutely amazing. >> and may you have many, many more celebrations in the days, months and years to come. >> reporter: today is national adoption day. inside the family justice center courthouse in san jose, 15 superior court judicial officers are processing and finalizing 29 children being placed into 24 adoptive families. behind the smiles, a lot of work. it can take years of paperwork and court dates to make an adoption final. some kids can wait five years or longer finding a permanent home. that's what makes today so sweet. >> congratulations. >> reporter: about 350 communities across the u.s. are celebrating national adoption day along with santa clara county to finalize these adoptions for the families. in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> i come from a family with multiple adoptions.

the famed civil rights icon publicly talked about his diagnosis this morning in a letter to his supporters. he said he was diagnosed in 2015. he plans to undergo physical therapy. he says he won't stop working but will make lifestyle changes to slow the progression of the disease. now today's morning money report. the palo alto based electric car maker tesla unveiling a big rig at an event in southern california. the all-electric truck can go zero to 60 in 5 seconds, that's twice as fast as a standard diesel truck. one charge can last 500 miles at highway speed at maximum weight. during last night's e vervent e musk made a surprise event, a new roadster that musk says will be the fastest production car ever made. it can go zero to 60 in just seconds. the top speed of more than 250 miles per hour. how much does it cost? we don't know. but if you have to ask, then,

grab an extra blanket or heavier coat. 53 by the time it ends. all right. so here's a look at what's going to happen next week. got pretty good chance of rain monday. now, the models have been flip-flopping on whether tuesday, wednesday and thursday are going to be wet. they flip-flop back a being dry. something we're definitely going to keep an eye on. here we are, the potential for wet weather next week. .015 in the south bay, quarter to half inch around the bay and east bay. maybe a half inch to inch up in the north bay. it's formidable in some areas. at the same time, doesn't that look great, couple feet of snow fell yesterday in the sierra. going to be mostly sunny there tomorrow. partly cloudy sunday. little bit of a mix monday, wednesday and for thanksgiving morning. right flow, we've got monday, tuesday and wednesday as light on our storm impact scale. definitely not a repeat of yesterday's atmospheric river event. and those temperatures will jump up a little bit as there will be warm, moist air bringing it in. we may touch 70 in a few
