friday before, now has the honor of being the busiest travel day of the year. >> we decided to get here a little early today. >> reporter: staci was worried her 12-year-old son vincent was going to miss his flight. >> i expected heavy crowd because of the thanksgiving holiday but i thought four hours would be sufficient, so i'm shocked. yeah, i'm disappointed that he might miss his flight. >> reporter: it wasn't looking good for them. the line for security stretched far beyond the ropes. this was after getting through the crowded ticket counter lines. she reported back to us they got through security after a 25-minute wait and we are happy to report vincent made it to his gate on time. airport officials say they

noticed this trend a few years ago. they think it's because schools now take the whole week off. more than 45 million people are expected to drive to their destinations. but that's more likely to happen next week. here's a live look at some of the traffic in the bay area. it really varies. on the left, interstate 680 in walnut creek looking okay. in the middle the skyway, that's already looking busy. highway 101 on the right in san jose near the airport just a little slow heading in the airport direction, but not too bad. traffic could get a bit dpi dicey if you're on your way to the mountains this weekend. heavenly mountain resort, 2.5 feet of snow have fallen since wednesday. kirkwood is aiming to open on monday. we want to check in with

spencer christian. >> it's not snow right now, but there's lots of snow on the ground. we have clear and calm conditions in the bay area right now. no flight delays at the bay area's three major airports. philadelphia has 30-minute delays and newark has 60-minute delays. back to weather here in the bay area. 24 hour temperature change map shows that most locations right now are three to five degrees warmer than they were at this hour yesterday. we've had a little bit of a warmup under sunny skies. here's the view from sutro tower. here's the view from emeriville looking west ward.

looks like we are going into a nice sunny weekend. i'll give you a complete look at the forecast leading up to thanksgiving in just a few minutes. whether you're traveling or staying home over the thanksgiving holiday, you can keep track of the forecast on the go with the abc 7 news accuweather app. developing news in oakland. a man and woman were rushed to the hospital after they were attacked by two pit bulls on 63rd eve near brancroft. the victims suffered deep puncture wounds. the woman said two pit bulls began attacking her dog. that dog was killed. a man tried to ward the pit bulls off and he was bitten as well. a man who escaped from a psych ward in hawaii and came through the bay area before

being arrested in stockton made his first court appearance today. randall saito broke out of a mental hospital on sunday, then chartered a flight to maui. today he told a judge he did not want to go back to hawaii. no decision has been made on extradition. he'll be back in court on the 27th for another hearing. on monday closing arguments will begin in the murder trial for the man accused of killing kate steinly. earlier this week a judge ruled that jurors will be allowed to consider a first down murder charge as well as second degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. president trump is taking democrats to task over their opposition to the tax reform plan being debated on capitol hill. in a predawn tweet today, mr.

their first rides today on muni's light trains. >> now you're going to have cleaner, more reliable. it goes from kind of an average of five years before major maintenance to some 49 years. >> muni will eventually have more than 250 of these cars. tomorrow's a big day for drivers to use one particular road in the east bay. crews will be taking down the road closed signs on morgan territory road in clayton at 5:00 tomorrow night. the two-lane road suffered considerable damage from the

jose is finally set to open after years of delays and rising costs. the result is a state of the art facility, but the process was painful and contentious. >> reporter: the new six-story facility is outfitted with the kind of technology you'd expect for silicon valley. patient wills get ipads to access their medical records. the pharmacy operates with robotic devices. there's even a therapy pool with a built-in underwater treadmill. the pavilion was supposed to open in 2014. >> we go through a process like this, we do learn. we're here today and we have a hospital that people can be proud of. >> reporter: a dispute with a contractor grew so con ten rten that turner construction was

locked out because of delays and rising costs. there was also a worker injured by an explosion in an underground vault. as changes or additions came, the price kept rising. the dispute was resolved and turner finished the job, but the delays added 90 mlg$90 million cost. >> doesn't have a final outcome financially until you're done with all the change orders. so we're not going to do that anymore. >> reporter: so after a three-year delay, the new pavilion will finally be open to patients in about two weeks with a formal ribbon cutting on december 2nd. the rain has come and gone. looks like a nice weekend as we start ramping up towards thanksgiving. >> ramping up and temperatures will be dropping down in the morning hours.

here's a look at live doppler 7. we have sunny skies all across the bay area right now. we're looking at temperature readings of 59 degrees in san francisco and at half moon bay. pretty much low 60s just about everywhere else. a little cooler in the inland valleys with temperatures in the upper 50s. beautiful view of the western sky from our east bay hills camera. we'll have a bright and brisk weekend coming our way. next rain arrives monday morning. then we have a warmer pattern leading into thanksgiving. overnight skies will be mainly clear. we could see a patch or two of fog in the valleys. lows will drop into the mid 30s in the north bay valleys. lows in the mid 40s around the bay. let's take a look at the seven day forecast for morning lows in santa rosa where the average morning low this time of year is about 40 degrees. next two mornings, mid 30s.

the temperature bounces back up to about 47 as a low monday morning. then mind morning lows going into the middle of next week heading into thanksgiving. that's reflective of the overall temperature pattern for the entire bay area. tomorrow, sunny skies. high temperatures range from upper 50s at the coast to low 60s right around the bay. low to mid 60s in palo alto. up in the nsorth bay, a high of 63 expected at santa rosa. tomorrow cal cross stanford, 5:00 p.m. game time, cool with temperatures in the upper 50s, a pleasant even for football. chan virtually no chances of rain this weekend. monday we have our next storm coming in, ranking a one on the storm impact scale. zero chances after monday.

the storm ranks 1, a storm of light intensity, producing mainly light showers. most bay area locations will receive under a half inch of rain from this storm. there will be low impact in the burn scar areas. early monday morning a wave of light rain coming in. by the midday hours, looks like virtually all of the bay area will receive some showers. we get through our sunny and dry weekend, we get the light showers on monday. tuesday there's just a lingering chance of a morning shower, but clouds hang around for much of the day. look how warm it's going to be on wednesday, mid 70s inland. 70 degrees around the bay. mild thanksgiving day as well, low 70s inland, 70 around the bay. temperatures drop off a little bit at the end of next week. >> it's lovely. perfect for tailgating. >> i know somebody who's going

in new york city, more than 200 firefihters are battling a major fire on the west side of upper manhattan. a five alarm inferno started four hours ago. you see the flames pouring out of the top of the building. this is a six story building, has stores on the first floor, apartments on the other five floors. the wind is making it really tough to get these flames under control. two firefighters have suffered minor injuries. a massive five alarm fire destroyed a pennsylvania senior living facility last night. at least 30 people were injured and now officials say some residents are still missing. the fire at barkley friends senior living community in westchester broke out around 11:00 p.m., brought under control around 1:30 this morning. fire officials say much of the burned building is too unstable. atf agents won't be able to go inside until tomorrow. it's unclear how many people might be missing. >> not used to in westchester

this is causing all kinds of havoc traffic-wise. the chp reports that the driver of the truck may have been trapped inside at one point. we'll try to get you an update. you could see the spillage on the road there and that vehicle overturned. if we can zoom out here, traffic is backed up in both directions for a considerable distance. so this is going to create a real nightmare for people on 101 on both sides because the lanes have been shut down. we're going to keep following the breaking news. we'll bring you the updates on air and online as soon as they become available. here are the stories making headlines. this is predicted to be the busiest thanksgiving travel weekend in more than 10 years. thousands of people came through sfo this afternoon on what is now the airport's busiest travel day of the year. security lines have been extremely long at times. extra staff is on hand to handle the rush of passengers.

this is a picture of randall saito as he made his first court appearance in stockton after escaping from a mental facility in hawaii. world news tonight tweeted five new names president trump added to his list of potential future supreme court nominees. the list includes two women. president trump is weighing in on the latest sexual misconduct allegations about senator al franken but remaining silent about those against senate candidate roy moore. similar allegations against the president himself are back in the spotlight. >> some are asking whether the president is picking and choosing when to speak out against sexual misconduct. that, of course, has brought back the more than a dozen women who have made accusations against him. president trump is accused of playing politics with sexual misconduct. hours after accusations surfaced

against democratic senator al franken along with this picture showing franken reaching out at a woman's chest as she slept. the president tweeted the al frankenstein picture is really bad, speaks a thousand words. and to think that just last week he was lecturing anyone who would listen about sexual harassment and respect for women. >> should roy moore resign, mr. president? >> but the president has been largely silent as allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault involving teenage girls in the '70s have mounted against alabma republican senate candidate roy moore. and unlike many other republicans, mr. trump has not retracted his endorsement of moore. on fox news, kellyanne conway defended the differences in how trump has responded. >> the roy moore story is eight days old. the president put out a statement during his asia trip on that.

our press secretary spoke on behalf of the president by saying he believes the people of alabama will sort out what to do with roy moore and that election. >> president trump told reporters in asia that he would address the moore issue when he returned to the u.s. his move taking on franken, bring's ts the president's own troubles back to light. this now infamous access holiday tape. >> grab them by the -- >> accusations by more than ten women accusing president trump of sexual misconduct. >> total fabrication. all of these liars will be sued. >> president trump never sued any of his accusers, but now one of them is suing him in federal court for liable. >> the white house was asked whether they would think it's fair to investigate claims made by the accusers against president trump. what did they say? >> right. press secretary sarah sanders

said the american people basically made a decision about that when president trump was elected as president. she says the american people spoke loud and clear. and she says the difference between president trump and senator al franken is that senator franken has admitted to wrongdoing, president trump has not. alabama's republican governor said today she will vote for roy moore in next month's special election for the u.s. senate despite the sexual harassment allegations against moore. this came as moore's wife kayla and a group of women aggressively defended him outside of alabama state capitol today. moore supporters accused outlets of trying to block him. >> even after all the attacks against me, against my family, against the foundation and now against my husband, he will not step down.

combat and report complaints of sexual harassment on capitol hill. for the first time the defense department has released a list showing the number of sexual assault reports taken at its installations from 2013-2016. topping the list is the naval station in norfolk, virginia, the navy's largest base. it's followed by the army's fort hood in texas. two california bases, san diego and camp pendleton ranked fifth and seventh. the pentagon says the numbers don't necessarily mean the reported sexual assaults occurred at those facilities. actor jeffrey tambor is denying sexual misconduct allegations being made against him by a costar on his critically acclaimed the actress who is transgender

is urging amazon to remove the problem and let the show go on. the allegation comes a week after tambor's assistant made similar allegations. the 73-year-old actor denies d those akizaticcusations as well two children were killed in an accident involving a patrol car. two deputies were racing to the scene of a shooting in the poil heig -- boyle heights section. five pedestrians were hit, including the two children, ages 7 and 9. their mother was taken to the hospital in critical condition. >> we know the sheriff's vehicle struck five pedestrians who were on the southeast corner. >> a total of seven people were transported to hospitals. among them, were five who suffered minor police said an investigation into the accident was ongoing.

park kin s-- parkinson's disease has claimed another vict victim. parkinson's disease is not a fatal all tilment but people do from the condition, as did jackson's father. today 49ers wide receiver goodwin shared his feelings on the tragic loss of his stillborn son. the baby died prior to the 49ers game against the new york giants last sunday. maurkice decided to play in honor of his son. >> imagine having something that you want more than anything in the world and you get it and it's just stripped away from you. i would give my life up if i could have a boy.

the golden state warriors won't be visiting the white house this year, but championship teams in some oh sports aren't staying away. today president trump welcomed the university of md myufrt oun men's lacrosse team. the september the president trump tweeted the warriors were not welcome at the white house a day after steph curry said he would vote no if the team were invited to visit the white house. we have sunny skies all across the bay area right now. looks like a couple of more sunny days coming our way as well. overnight, mainly clear skies with a patch of fog or two. 40s around the bay. tomorrow's highs will range from upper 50s at the coast to mainly low 60s near the bay and low to mid 60s generally in our inland areas.

one lane is open southbound, two lanes open northbound. we're told the blockages in the lanes could last for at least a couple of hours. now we've just been told is at least one fatality. we'll continue to follow the breaking news as we continue this afternoon here on abc 7 news. the california wine industry is a multibillion dollar business that brings millions of tourists to the golden state. what if that all went up in smoke or because of smoke? it's one of the questins left behind by the north bay wildfires. wayne friedman explains the possible impact of all that smoke on those precious grapes. >> reporter: for vines, it's the season for a well-earned rest after the harvest. for wine makers, though, not so much. >> when you farm, you make a deal with god. whatever's handed down, there's no appeal. >> reporter: among growers and makers every year the question

is what. which leads us to this sonoma county laboratory far from the vines, the grapes, the barrels and tasting rooms. suffice it to say the instruments have extremely discriminating pallets. we actually burnt some vineyards and heft others sitting beneath heavy blankets of smoke. >> we worried that it got smoke taint and in two or three years time the wine will taste like bacon on ashtray or smokey. >> reporter: smoke taint is insidious. even an expert cannot taste it until too late in the process. but these experts could and did.
