now at 11. drone view 7 show us td spot of a preholiday tragedy. an accused drunk driver drove through a closed construction zone killing his father and seriously injuring his mother. >> good evening. >> it's a sad reminder to close this close to the hol cay. not to drink and drive. in the just the past week two fatal suspected dui crashes have ripped families apart. >> this happened tuesday. and latest today in a construction area. in unincorporated county. news reporter is live for us. at the hospital with the latest. >> this is where the two survivors are being troeted.

the mother and son are both in serious condition. at this hour. the son who was the driver is also under arrest. he faces charges for manslaughter. and dui. >> reporter: this is what's left of the mangled chrysler convertible. the family in the car is from lake county. the driver was a 29 year-old man. his father was in the passenger seat. and his mother was in the backseat. no one was wearing a seat belt. and though the construction signs on highway 101 near san antonio creek are highly visible. the driver still ended up on a closed road. >> there's a 30 foot gap in the freeway. that has yet to be completed. the vehicle traveled off the paved portion. and subsequently struck a bridge wall. >> reporter: you can see from the drone view 7 video. part of the path the car took. before crashing into the open gap and falling 15 feet. the 69 year-old passenger died

immediately. the man's wife and son were rushed to the hospital. >> the driver was in fact driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs. and the driver has subsequently been placed under arrest. >> reporter: the second fatal suspected dui in less than a week. on tuesday, on highway 12, police arrested the driver of this pickup truck. after he drove head on into a car. a young mother and her 7 year-old daughter died. at that scene and today's empty beer cans were found in the crashed cars. >> impairment being a factor in this. impairment can effect your judgment. >> chp upped patrol and has all available officers on the roads this holiday week. >> breaking news now from san francisco mission district. where 15th street is shut down. after a car hit three

pedestrians. police say all three were injured but expected to be okay. alameda sheriff deputies are zeshlging for whoever shot and killed a man after trying to sell an item he posted online. 1:00 this afternoon at a parking lot. a 32 year-old victim was trying to sell a an electronic device when he was shot. the shooter managed to escape and the identity of the victim could be released tomorrow. police encourage you if you're selling an item online. to meet the buyer at a police station. or request something called a civil standby. having an officer supervise the transaction. some police stations including dale will city have a safe exchange zone. set up specifically for doing business with people you don't know. monitored by cameras and police nearby. fbi in california highway patrol carried outd raids

targeting several locations in santa rose this afternoon. according to to the press the raids appear to target motorcyclist. witnesses told the press democrat several motorcyclists were detained. fbi tells us agents served federal warrants at zerl locations and more information was to be released monday. tonight firefighters confirm a third person has died from an early morning apartment fire on south ninth street. media partners report a 14 year-old girl who attended gunderson high school and her 21 year-old brother both died at the scene. 48 year-old mother died late this afternoon at the hospital. her husband is in in critical condition. the latest on what may have caused that fire. >> all i remember is hearing people screaming. and also glass breaking. >> reporter: neighbor woke to

get out safely. >> reporter: the building ordinary reason and prudence have no comment for us. >> the postal service is sorting through damaged mail after a mail truck caught fire. the fire department sent pictures here. that mail carrier wasn't hurt. postal workers are trying to see how much of the mail that was inside can still be delivered. the fire wasn't started by the mail. the cause is under investigation. a man faces 30 years in prison if convicted of molesting a child in jamaica. the department of justice says 43 year-old molested a six yeerd in the pool at a resort in june. he is being returned to san francisco to face the charge. 52 immigrants who hail from 21 countries took the oath to become american citizens today. today the ceremony drew a large crowd of family, friends and supporters who cheered as the immigrants were sworn in. today's group included employees of many bay area companies.

a holiday tradition in the city took on special significance tonight. thousands-over community members gather for the fifth an ideal holiday lights of the plaza. many said it was an opportunity for community to come together and bond after last months dvastating wild fire. organizers said they hope the lights woo out of towners back to the county. >> bh you come in july or october. december. at anytime of the year we're always welcoming. and tonight we showed that.

>> you drive by all the time. and wave. >> we know everyone. >> reporter: yes. thank you. in napa, abc 7 news. >> what a great show of thanks. neighbors hosted a city wide garage sale to benefit those who lost everything in the devastating wild fire. the twist here, is everything for sale was free to fire victims. many have lost everything in the fire. the organizers says she plans to hold another distribution event in april. when she hopes more people who were forced outs of homes have a new place to stay. >> a lot of people that have come today haven't found homes yet. they're just trying to grab small things. that blanket a pillow. that might help them out. and maybe a room they're renting. >> honor system was in place so those who took items were fire survivors.

a san francisco institution kicked off the turkey curb side donation drive. we were outside where you can drive by and drop off a frozen turkey. ham or gently used clothing. 600 turkeys were drop off today. that will help the dining room serve about 3,500 dinners on thanksgiving. >> it's very inspiring to work here and see the generosity. come here and help the brothers and sisters who are less fortunate. >> you can drop off a donation tomorrow from 9 until 3. or 9 and 4 monday through wednesday. or from 9 to 1 thanksgiving day. on golden gate avenue between eleven worth and jones. >> the second harvest food bank needs thousands more turkeys to help families this thanksgiving. they have a goal of 24,000. that get distributed to those who are less fortunate. >> each month we feed about 257,000 people.
