some areas got as much as 9 inches, but today's high is expected to be 52 degrees. >> 54 in utica as well. >> great. so, the weather will be clear in central new york, but for most of the east coast, thanksgiving travelers will find wet roads. otherwise, travel today will be pretty good in most of the country, except for the pacific northwest. another major storm is moving in there as you can see, bringing heavy rain and possible flooding, as much as half a foot of rain could fall. so that nasty weather couldn't come at a worse time for thanksgiving travelers. aaa predicts americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home. the highest travel volume since 2005. and as black friday steadily expands to include other days of the week, shoppers not only need to know where to find the best deals but when to find the best deals.

good morning. i'm diane macedo. >> and i'm kendis gibson. here are some of the top stories we're following on this tuesday morning, on good morning. i'm diane macedo. the veteran tv host, charlie rose is facing allegation of lewd and inappropriate behavior from eight women, mostly former employees. rose has issued an apology for his behavior, and he's been suspended by cbs, pbs, and bloomberg tv. a full report coming up. the justice department is suing to block at&t's proposed purchase of cnn's parent company time-warner. the government's lawsuit reports that the deal would result in higher prices for consumers. at&t is calling the suit inexplicable and is promising a fight in court. jury members are expected to begin deliberations in the kate steinle murder trial.

a mexican man is accused of killing the woman on the water front. a case that has drawn attention of immigration enforcement. and this is thanksgiving week tradition. president trump is set to pardon two turkeys. after the ceremony, wishbone and drumstick will live out that lives in peace at virginia tech. those are some of our top stories on this tuesday, november 21st. from abc news, this is "world news now." we're going to start this half hour out with breaking news out of michigan. >> a powerful gas line fire burned for hours just out of detroit. these are some of the scenes we're getting in overnight. officials say the fire ignited in a high-pressure gas main which is unusual, since flames usually can't burn through the sheer force of the gas pressure. >> and other reports of homes

being threatened, the gas company did shut down the line so that the gas could burn itself out. >> the fire was so massive, the flames could be seen more than 30 miles away. and there were heard more than a quarter mile away as well. we'll keep an eye on that situation north of detroit. here in new york state, a factory worker is dead and dozens injured after an explosion at a cosmetics factory north of new york city. some of the injured were among firefighters. gio benitez is on scene. >> reporter: here in windsor, new york you can see that plant still smoking. you can see firefighters still working to control this fire. this all started as a blaze, an explosion at around 10:15. then another one at around 10:40 a.m. and we don't know exactly what caused these explosions, but we know that this particular plant produces a lot of nail polish. and we know that this plant has at least nine safety violations over the past year. investigators are going to be looking at that, especially because some of those violations were about flammable liquids.

gio benitez, abc news, new windsor, new york. i want to show you the cover of new york's "daily news" this morning, "charlie gross." not what you really want to hear. he has sexual allegations from at least eight women. >> the fallout was immediate as rose was suspended from cbs and his long running show halted. lana zak has the details. >> reporter: eight women are telling the "washington post" that charlie rose, the host of pbs's "charlie rose show" and co-host of "cbs this morning" made sexual advances toward them. all the women wanted to work for the pbs show. this woman was one of them. while she worked as an assistant to rose, there were at least a dozen instances where he walked nude in front of her. and alleges she was fired after she told a mutual friend about

rose's behavior. earlier, he spoke about the sexual allegation claims made against bill o'reilly. >> all of these cases that raise the issue of sexual harassment is just a terrible thing. it's probably not been exposed enough not enough attention in the past. so people are afraid to come forward. i think people are coming forward now. >> reporter: now accused of his own action of impropriety he composed this statement, writing it is essential that these women know i hear them and that i deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior, i am greatly embarrassed. he went on to say, i always felt that i was pursuing shared feels, even though i now realize i was mistaken. one woman described vega's response as a shrug and that's just charlie being charlie. vega says i failed. it is crushing. i deeply regret not helping them. lana zak, abc news, washington. >> in the meantime, the other

new york tabloid "the new york post" has another shocking cover. in it, senator al franken appears to be groping ariana huffington. huff daddy as you can see the title. >> the post says the pictures were taken for a magazine 17 years ago but never published. a source from the shoot tells us that huffington was pushing franken's hands away but huffington herself denies that he did anything inappropriate, calling the claim absurd. and president trump is failing to say where he stands on alabama candidate roy moore who's accused of preying on teenage girls when he was a young attorney. the president avoided questions about moore, and the white house has repeatedly said it's up to the people of alabama to decide moore's fate. but white house adviser kellyanne conway issued an apparent endorsement of moore saying republicans need his vote on tax cuts. here's what she said and then a clarification from sarah sanders. >> i'm telling you that we want the votes in the senate to get this tax, this tax bill through.

>> position of the white house hasn't changed. we feel like the people of alabama should make the determination on who their next senator should be. but she made a clear suggestion on who they should vote for. >> i'm telling you, i'm giving you the position of the white house. >> moore has denied the allegations. leigh corfman says he inappropriately touched her when she was 14, saying she didn't come forward earlier because moore was so powerful. and president trump is making good on a promise to shut down his charitable foundation. the trump foundation spokesperson says the charity will make its last donations as soon as possible. it has been under investigation since a donation to a political group last year. new york's attorney general says the foundation can't legally dissolve until his investigation is over. we've learned that border patrol agent killed this past weekend in west texas and his partner suffered traumatic head injuries. one official says the agent may have fallen into a culvert. but the unit for the agent says

they were actually ambushed after seeing signs for a group in an area. a second agent is hospitalized this morning and reportedly doesn't remember exactly what took place. and a 29-year-old suspect accused of killing a police officer near pittsburgh remains on the loose. police say rahmael holt murdered officer brian shaw during a traffic stop. another man who fled the scene has been arrested. argentina's navy says sounds heard from beneath the ocean's surface were not from its missing submarine. there were hopes that it was members of the crew banging on the vessel to raise attention. the navy says the sub had reported battery failure and was trying to return to base. here at home we're marking the passing of a star who became a fixture of prime time television in the '90s. the family of singer and actress della reese said she died on sunday at her home in encino, california.

so this is a family trip to the pharmacy that turned into a deadly shooting in brazil. off duty military policeman rafael desusa opening fire on two suspected robbers while carrying his young son after he says they pointed a gun at him. at one point he hands off the son to his wife. both suspects were killed at the scene. >> that's an eerie scene, you can see his wife panic, feet away from her, and he comes over and hands over their son. turning now to the american mother and her family who were held captive for years by the taliban. >> in their first television interview, they describe brutal treatment to abc's brian ross as he also asks them what they were doing in afghanistan in the

first place. take a look. >> reporter: everything is new to these children. playgrounds, sunlight, real toys, pizza. until just a few weeks ago, they were being held hostage with their parents by the taliban. born in captivity. >> we can only ask and pray that somebody will recognize the atrocities these men carry out against us. >> reporter: their parents, american mother caitlyn boyle and father joshua, had been kidnapped five years ago when they traveled to afghanistan. she was six months pregnant, somehow thinking they would be safe. they tell abc news nothing could have been further from the truth. >> i was shackled the entire five years every day. kaitlyn still wearing a hijab, told us that a guard sexually assaulted her and beat them regularly, including their son. even as she tried to protect him. >> that's how i would get beaten or hit or thrown on the ground.

>> reporter: and she described how she tried to give her children as normal a life as possible. >> we just teach them to use things like bottle caps or bits of cardboard and tell them these are toys. my wish for them now is that they never have to face fear in their lives again. >> reporter: her father in pennsylvania has yet to see his daughter, still unable to understand how her husband got her into the situation. a question joshua boyle would not answer for us. disappointed about, obviously, he wanted his daughter to come back home. >> it was a very strange story, and there continue to be so many stories about why they were there in afghanistan. initially, he said he wanted to take her on a hike, then they

said they were there to do missionary work. and then the u.s. was going to fly them out of that area initially, and he said no. >> he wouldn't get on an american plane. >> he wouldn't get on an american plane. weird, weird story. they were apparently unhappy with brian's interview, because it focused on too much how they and their children are adjusting to life of freedom. coming up, we're going to take a look at uber's parent company, facing a nearly $9 million fine in colorado over questionable background checks of its drivers. >> it comes after the state found uber allowed dozens to work there after histories of assault, fraud and drunk driving conditions. uber says it's taking corrective action. and we're two days away from the macy's thanksgiving day parade and the nypd is ramping up security.

christmas tree on monday. a tradition dating back over 50 years. now she ushered in the first christmas tree of her husband's administration alongside son barron. this year's tree as you see there on that horse-drawn carriage, a wisconsin industry and it is a whopping 19 1/2 feet. it's not easy for growers to get this tree displayed in the white house. the national christmas tree association holds an annual contest where industry experts and consumers vote on the tree. the winners are jim and diane chapman who are no strangers to this. they presented white house christmas trees in 1998 and 2003. now christmas did come a bit early this year for the trumps. typically, these trees arrive friday, the day after thanksgiving. the first family is expected, though, to spend their holiday at their mar-a-lago club in florida. though needless to say, the holiday traditions will continue here later this afternoon at the white house where president trump is expected to use his presidential pardon power to

and i am greatly embarrassed. he went on to say i always felt i was pursuing shared feelings, even though now i realize i was mistaken. meanwhile on capitol hill a new sexual harassment claim this morning. >> buzzfeed reports congressman john conyers settled a complaint two years ago from a woman who claims she was fired for rejecting his sexual advancements. she was reportedly paid more than $27,000 to settle the allegations on the disagreement. and one of the women accusing roy moore of sexual misconduct is responding to his denials. leigh corfman reiterated her claim that moore initiated a sexual encounter with her when she was 14 and denied allegations that she is politically motivated. but while the president has yet to comment on the allegations against moore, one of his top aides is seemingly urging alabama voters to choose moore. here's abc's cecilia vega. >> reporter: it has been days since roy moore was hit with allegations of sexual misconduct with teenagers. but still, no word from

north korea is back on the u.s. list of states that sponsor terrorism. one of the events used to justify the return to the list was the assassination of kim jong un's brother at an airport in february. new u.s. sanctions aimed at forcing north korea to stop its nuclear program will be announced today. secretary of state rex tillerson says the move is not a signal to kim jong un that diplomacy is off the table. >> this just continues to tighten the pressure on the kim regime, all with an intention to have him understand this is only going to get worse, until you're ready to come and talk. >> president george w. bush removed north korea from the state sponsored terror list in 2008. meanwhile, kim jong un has made a new move to control his own people. he banned gatherings that involved singing and drinking. the united states took part in an air strike at a taliban drug lab in afghanistan. it's the first since last august. the top u.s. general in
