good wednesday morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm diane macedo. here are some of the top headlines we're following on "world news now." the list of men facing sexual harassment claims is growing by the day. president trump is siding with alabama senate candidate roy moore, but charlie rose was promptly fired and the longest-serving congressman is now under investigation. we have a full report up next. the pentagon investigating the alleged actions of three u.s. military members. they've been removed from a special white house communications unit. amid accusations of improper contact with foreign women during that trip. millions of teenage girls swooned over david cassidy in the '70s, and today we're remembering the life of the man who gained fame as keith partridge. david cassidy has died at the age of 67.

and they'll be inflating the giant balloons for the marci's thanksgiving day parade a little later on today just a few blocks from where we are. the radio city rockettes are getting ready for their part in the parade. millions will be watching around the world. those are some of our top stories on this wednesday, november 22nd. >> from abc news, this is "world news now." >> good morning to all of you. we begin this half hour with the latest allegation of sexual misconduct, pouring in from hollywood to capitol hill and beyond. >> the tv host, charlie rose, facing a dozen accusers and is now out of a job. claims against congressman john conyers have triggered a formal investigation. and after more than a week, of silence, zip-o, president trump is weighing in on embattled senate republican candidate roy moore. abc's elizabeth hur with the latest.

>> reporter: president trump speaking out and defending roy moore, who, as the former alabama judge faces accusations of sexual misconduct by eight women, some were teenagers at the time. >> he totally denies it. he says it didn't happen, and, you know, you have to listen to him also. >> reporter: the president suggesting sendsing an accuse dollars pedophile to the senate is better than electing a democrat. >> we don't need a liberal person in there. >> reporter: meanwhile in michigan, democrat john conyers now facing an ethics committee investigation, this after he reportedly paid more than $27,000 to a woman who claims she was fired for refusing his sexual advances. conyers acknowledges the settlement, but denies her claim. and despite facing a new accuser, this woman says al franken groped her while taking this picture, franken says he is fought stepping down. but the fallout for this tv icon was immediate. >> let me be very clear. there is no excuse for this alleged behavior. >> reporter: cbs news has fired

charlie rose. pbs and bloomberg are dropping "the charlie rose show." after nearly a dozen women told "the washington post" rose made unwanted sexual advances towards them. rose first apologized to his accusers but later said this to the tmz -- >> you want to say anything to those accusers? the people that's accusing you of all these wrongdoings? >> it's not wrongdoing. >> reporter: finally, the head of disney animation and co-founder of pixar, john lasseter, says he will take a six month leave of absence citing what he calls missteps, lassetter saying in part, i want to apologize to anyone who has ever been on the receiving end of an unwanted hug or gesture they thought was out of line in any way, shape or form. elizabeth hur, abc news, new york. >> and disney's parent company has released a statement saying we appreciate john's candor and fully support his sabbatical. in the meantime, there is

a show of support for senator al franken. it's now being met by criticism online. 36 women who once worked for "saturday night live" signed a letter backing their former colleague. they called what he did to leanne tweeden foolish, but they said they felt compelled to stand up for him. they say franken never treated them inappropriately and described him as a family man and honorable public servant. new this morning, robert mueller's russia probe is reportedly spreading. mueller's investigators are now looking into contacts between the president's son-in-law, jared kushner, and foreign heads of state. that's according to the "wall street journal." they said kushner's involvement in a dispute and meeting with a russian banker are now being looked into. we take a look overseas to the korean peninsula where a soldier who defected from the north to the south is recovering from his wounds that he suffered during his dash for freedom. >> the machine defected last monday, but we're just seeing this video now of the incident for the first time.

>> reporter: what you see here is the northern territory above the dmz, the demilitarized zone. that jeep spotted on surveillance camera, racing down the road to the south that leads to the demarcation zone. in that jeep is the defector. that white building is controlled by the north koreans, and we're told there is a barricade there that we can't see in this video because of the camera angle. the jeep seems to slow down for a moment then quickly speed the up now with headlights on. don't know if you caught that moment just now. but there's a soldier that runs after the vehicle. it looks like the defector broke throughout bars, then races past this bridge known as the bridge of 72 hours. now watch this video. these are the north korean soldiers on guard at the joint security area. after noticing that jeep, four of them running to the jeep on the left side of the screen are fully armed. now this shows the jeep falling into a ditch, stuck there, he jumps out, sprints for life to the south.

at the same time, north korean soldiers firing guns, one that looks like he's fallen is diving into a crouching position to shoot. then here is the moment where a north korean soldier steps across the white line, which would be a violation of the cease-fire agreement. after a few steps, he quickly realizes that he's crossed, then hurries back to their side. this infrared imagery showing two south korean troops trying to rescue the fallen defector, carefully crawling, then dragging this man to safety. judy cho, abc news, seoul, south korea. >> the video is seven minutes long and is absolutely captivating. our thanks to julia. one more note about this. the defector has two bullets in his body but is recovering. when he regained consciousness, he reportedly asked if he was in south korea. and when doctors told him that he was, he said he wanted to listen to some korean music.

the power of korean pop. >> very cool. >> bts. today the head of the fcc releases his plan to end net neutrality. the obama era rules ensures equal access to the internet for all americans. opponents say ending them will allow providers to block or slow down some websites unless consumers pay more. the fcc says the change will lead to more innovation. the agency votes on the plan next month. an iranian national is charged with the hack into hbo's servers earlier this year. prosecutors say mesri stole confidential data and unaired episodes of hbo shows and demanded $6 million to keep him from making them public. the hack included scripts for award winning "game of thrones." it's not clear if hbo paid any money. the busiest travel time of the year is under way. >> there were only a few dozen canceled flights for today. the airlines have added hundreds flights for the day. but a 5% increase in air travel this thanksgiving. >> more people are going to drive this weekend, despite the

society. they're the result of unhealthy lifestyles, apparently. 19% of the cancer cases result from smoking. alcohol causes 25% of the liver cancers in men, 12% in women. and obesity is responsible for 8% for all cancer cases. ikea has issued a second recall for millions of its dressers. the company recalled about 29 million dressers last summer because they can tip over. now an eighth child has been killed by one of those dressers. the government says more than 90 children have been injured by them. ikea is repeating the recall to alert consumers about the danger. all right, so with the tsa expected to screen more than 24 million passengers this week alone, there are sure to be headaches for passengers. >> and when there's a problem, people turn to social media. so here'serley with an inside look at how southwest airlines handles it all in realtime. >> reporter: heading home, lines

women, sir, during this pivotal time in this country when we're talking about sexual misconduct, you've had your own allegations against you -- >> let me just tell you, roy moore denies it. that's all i can say, and by the way, he totally denies it. >> and that message to women? >> women are very special. i think it's a very special time because a lot of things are coming out, and i think that's good for our society. and i think it's very, very good for women. and i'm very happy a lot of these things are coming out. and i'm very happy -- i'm very happy it's being exposed. >> reporter: the president faces his own accusations of sexual misconduct. more than a dozen women came forward during the campaign alleging everything from sexual assault to harassment and inappropriate behavior. he called all of them liars and promised to sue, but he never did. the president sent a clear message, electing an accused child molester would be better than electing a democrat.

john conyers is facing a house ethics investigation as sexual harassment allegations emerge from a second accuser. according to the website buzzfeed, a 40-year-old sued conyers over unwanted sexual advances but later dropped that suit. conyers says they paid $27,000 to settle another complaint. and new overnight, conyers' hometown paper calling for him to step down. three more women have come forward with sexual allegations against veteran journalist charlie rose after he was fired by cbs and dropped from pbs. rose's co-hosts on cbs this morning, gayle king and nora o'donnell, opened their show by denouncing his actions to at least eight other women. rose has apologized to his accusers, but he is not characterizing his behavior as wrong. >> do you want to say anything to those accusers, those accusing you of wrongdoings? >> it's not wrongdoings. >> cbs called the allegation quote, extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior.
