a prisoner after being detained by i.c.e. is happy to spend thanksgiving at home. his wife and children ran into his arms. i.c.e. agents detained the undocumented immigrant in may when he showed up at travis air force base to work a construction job. today he reflected how one day at work changed his in spite of life. >> one minute, your kids, your wife, all these years in here is -- it's hard. you have no word to describe. >> he thanked his supporters and says he wants a chance to stay legally in what he call this beautiful country. mejia has lived in the u.s. for 15 years and faces an uplittle legal battle.

wen, abc 7 news. disturbing allege allegations of sexual abuse at a high school. no action was taken when the alleged abuse happened 30 years ago. reporter david luey has their stories and reaction from the school. >> reporter: the two, 1991 graduates accused the school of not taking the abuse seriously. katherine la hain says she was a teenager but knew her teacher did something she needed to report. she did not get the respond appropriately. >> when i sent my first letter that he had groped me and showing me pictures of a naked woman, the administration didn't even respond. >> reporter: to her knowledge, nothing happened after the two together reported the incident. so she took it upon herself to confront the teacher. >> i told him i knew what he had done to jane, and i knew he knew

teacher over his 20 year tenure. the jury in the kate steinle murder trial left for the thanksgiving holiday without reaching a verdict. we know the defendant is an undocumented imfwrant but there's been no mention of his status during there trial. many have asked what will happen to hip after the trial. abc 7 lyanne melendez has that information. >> reporter: once the verdict is delivered it's not a matter of if enforcement agents will come to detain him, it is a matter of when. if he is found guilty he's serve his time in a u.s. prison. the department of justice will have an order of removal. according to an i.c.e. spokesperson fugitives are arrested all the time, we know who to look for.

garcia-serrate could be deported to mexico immediately or held at a detention center pending a court finding. he rived in 1991 and since then have been reported five times with several nonviolent offenses in washington, california, oregon. inside court 13, the attorneys have focused solely on the murder trial, only once did defense attorney matt gonzalez mention that inez jose garcia-serrate was an undocumented immigrant. it happened during opening arguments when he said garcia-serrate left immediately when he thought he was going to be deported. a source has told me that regardless of the verdict, the family has said they will not politicize their daughter's
