a diver attack by what's believed to be a great white shark. good evening. i'm cheryl jennings. thanks for joining us. dan and ama have the night off. the shark attack happened in still water cove offer pebble beach and that diver mayo his life to two first responders who happened to be in the right place at the right time. >> reporter: the diver was spear fishing with his father 80 yards off pebble beach when the shark bit his leg. >> he swam to the surface to tell his dad what he had seen, and when he was at the surface the shark actually attacked him. >> reporter: officials believe it was a great white based on the bite marks. the diver mangled to get his boat back to shore. >> we have somebody on shore. you see a boat in the water but the subjects inside are yelling and we believe it is some type of shark bite. >> saw this red zodiac boat come in not acting right. >> reporter: statement two off duty monterey county sheriff's deputies happened to be finishing up a day of fishing at still water cove.

witness he alerted them. one deputy applied a tourniquet to stop the massive blood loss from the victim's wet thigh. >> the wetsuit was inside the zodiac and it was pretty shredded with a lot of blood. >> reporter: an air unit searched the area and spotted what might have been the shark. cal fire coordinated with deputies to evacuate the cove. a cal jet ski helped a swimmer back to the peer. >> the 25-year-old victim is undergoing victim at a salinas hospital. there have been seven known shark attacks in the general area. since 1966 only one was fatal, an attack on a surfer in 1981 off spanish bay tonight the death toll is rising after a massacre at a mosque in egypt. at least 235 people were killed in what is called the deadliest attack ever by extremists on civilians on the sinai peninsula. here is abc foreign correspondent with the story.

>> reporter: for worshippers inside there was almost no hope of escape. most of the aftermath too gruesome to show. rows of victims draped on the floor of the place of worship. over 200 people including children were slaughtered. militants setting off explosives, then spraying the congregation with bullets as they knelt and pray. the attackers opening fire and reportedly shooting into the mosque from four off-road vehicles surrounding the building. the militants blocking off escape routes by blowing up their cars. one eyewitness telling abc news anyone who tliried to flee were shot. even ambulances that came to help the wounded were attacked. schools injured, too. outside a hospital overwhelmed, case os as ambulances and vehicles arrive with victims. today's massacre, the deadliest attack on egyptian civilians in a region plagued by the scoring

7 news" the city of oakland officially declared today the start of plaid friday weekend to encourage people to shop at local businesses. more than 200 shops and restaurants are offering special deals and discounts this weekend. and from now through new year's, all of the street parking meets will be free on saturdays to encourage shoppers but time limits on meters still apply. >> two, one. >> beautiful. abc 7 was in san francisco's union square for the 28th annual macy tree lighting ceremony tonight. hundreds gathered to celebrate the start of the holiday season. more than 43,000 led lights and 700 ornaments decorate the tree. the ceremony featured choirs, show tunes and, of course, a visit from santa. san jose may have won upped san francisco tonight. christmas in the park set a guinness world record, and

shopping kicks into high gear. it is also prime time for thieves. "abc 7 news" reporter lyanne melendez rode along with san rafael police and found out how vulnerable shoppers will be. >> i'm sure woo will find something quickly. >> reporter: sergeant raul aguilar was sure he would find cars with holiday packages and personal items inside. he found more than what he expected. >> oh, my, this one has macy's, apple. >> christmas gifts. >> christmas gifts, boots. it wouldn't take too long, somebody can use something like this, a window punch. this is something that, you know, you just hit the window, and you'll shatter immediately. >> reporter: we saw this man putting two large bags in the back seat of his car and walk away. we tried to tell him that it wasn't safe. you just left your bags in there. >> yeah. >> reporter: somebody could steal them? >> i just got to hide it.

60 degrees in san francisco. 59 across the bay in oakland. low to mid 60s in mountain view and san jose. 58 at gilroy, 57 at half moon bay. you can see clearly across the bay from emeryville although we have high clouds. 56 in santa rosa and mid to upper 50s at napa, novato, fairfield, low 60s at concord and livermore. looking down on san francisco. these are our forecast features. dry and mild tomorrow, but late night rain developing in the north bay. that storm will be a wet and windy one for sunday, even stormier in the hills than down at sea level. the rain will taper off to showers by monday morning, but before that happens we're going to have quite a storm coming our way. not tonight though. partly cloudy skies overnight, fairly mild conditions. a little cooler in the north bay where lows will drop into the upper 40s. tomorrow look for a day much like today with high clouds. it will be a bright sky but a

hazy sky with temperatures ranging from upper 60s at coast and upper 60s in north bay to low 70s around the bay and low to mid 70s in most of the inland valley locations. let's talk about the storm. it ranks two on the storm impact scale, a storm of moderate intensity. it will arrive late tomorrow night and continue into early monday morning. it will produce moderate to heavy rainfall with periods of hef heavy downpour also. up in the hills, the higher elevations, one to two inches of rain from the storm. windy gusting 15 to 20 miles per hour generally, but gusts up to 50 miles per hour in the highest elevations. here is forecast animation starting at noon tomorrow, at which point we will have partly cloudy skies. it will be bright, pleasant and dry. but late tomorrow night in the north bay bay we will see the first wave pushing on store in parts of mendocino and sonoma counties. by about midnight or 12:00 a.m. sunday we will see the rain more widespread. there will be widespread

moderate to steady rain developing and sweeping down through the north bay. by 6:00 sunday morning this will be the picture. we will have a wide path of heavy rainfall drenching the central part of the bay area, the north bay, san francisco, parts of the peninsula, over into the east bay. later in the day on sunday, that cold front will sweep south ward. the south bay will get a heavy dose of rainfall along with strong, gusty wind. cold air behind the front, and late sunday night into monday morning it will break into pockets of scattered showers. rainfall totals we project from about two-thirds of an inch to about an inch in the south bay, up along the bay shorelines we will see nearly an inch of rain at san mateo. about .8 of an inch in oakland. here in san francisco just over an inch, and in the north bay one two two inches of rainfall. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. the storm that ranks two on sunday will weaken to one on monday morning. at that point it will be scattered showers and partial
