accuweather app. you'll get updates from our weather team and check the forecast on the go. a man in novato faces charges of attempted murder tonight the arrest log at the marin county sheriff's office has 79-year-old william bradley being taken into custody this morning. he was arrested at this location on vineyard road you see here. we are waiting for a call back from the sheriff's office now for more details. three men are in jail tonight accused of kpthd a woman during a wild series of crimes in mendocino county. the sheriff's office says it all started monday afternoon in laytonville with the report of a burglary. investigators say the trio of men you see right here went to a home and when a woman answered the door they point aid gun at her and demanded money and drugs. the woman told deputies the men pistol whipped her several times after she told them she had neither of those things. when a family member arrived at the house the three men ran off to an suv. that vehicle was spotted a short time later in willlets, and police pulled it over and arrested the three men. b.a.r.t. is reporting at

least four cell phone thefts at stations or on trains yesterday. two people at oakland's coliseum station say a group of teenagers snatched their phones. officers detained a group in the parking lot including a 14-year-old and located the stolen phones. another phone robbery happened in san francisco at the 16th street station where a man reports two men stole his phone. at the union city station b.a.r.t. reports someone snatched a phone out of its owner's hands. and at the fruitvale station b.a.r.t. says a would-be robber knocked the victim to the floor of a train in an attempt to steal the victim's cell phone. another homeless encampment has caught on fire. abc 7 news was in oakland this morning as flames shot into the air over 26th and wood streets. the fire put up a lot of smoke, and as you can see there could be seen by the macarthur maze. it came in at about 8:00 to 8:15 and firefighters had it under control within 45 minutes. no one was hurt, and the cause is under investigation tonight. initial reports indicate the fire might have started in an

rv. a spear fisherman is expected to make a full recovery following a shark attack. the attack happened yesterday in stillwater cove off pebble beach. witnesses reported seeing the shark come up from behind and bite the man on the leg. >> swam to the surface to tell his dad what he'd seen. and when he was at the surface the shark actually attacked him. >> the wetsuit was inside the zodiac, and it was pretty shredded. there was a lot of blood. >> there are signs posted warning people about the shark attack. the monterey county sheriff's office says it looks like it was a great white that bit the fisherman. the agency that has one of the biggest impacts on helping you safeguard your finances is in a state of flux tonight. there's no certainty on who will replace the outgoing director of the consumer financial protection bureau. and as of now it depends on who you ask. reporter kim hutcherson explains. >> reporter: dueling appointments are sparking confusion saturday over who is leading the top u.s. consumer

watchdog agency. at the stroke of midnight richard cordray, the man heading the consumer financial protection bureau, stepped down. cordray, an obama appoint yeah, named his chief of staff, leandra english, as his succes successor, which essentially makes her the acting director for now. however, president trump also named his own interim chief friday. white house budget director mick mulvaney. the appointments of two officials to the same post sets up a political clash. the question now, who is in charge when employees return to work monday. massachusetts senator elizabeth warren, who helped create the cfpb, tweeted "the dodd-frank act is clear. if there's a cfpb director vacancy the deputy director becomes acting director. trump," she says, "can't override that." a senior white house official defended trump's pick by citing another federal law, the vacancies reform act, saying mulvaney's appointment is a typical routine move.

a long-time holiday tradition featuring homemade angels and lambs is being kept alive in the east bay. abc 7 news was in el cerrito on mauser lane to see a hillside being cut for a display. the display began in 1949 when a local man began hanging stars and building holiday figures. it was a way of saying thank you to the community. >> mr. shaddi was a sikh, and he put up this display to thank his neighbors in el cerrito. it has become an el cerrito

landmark that people come far and wide to see. >> he sounds like a nice neighbor. that display will be up this year from december 10th to the 26th and will be lit up every night from 5:00 until 10:00. visitors to a piedmont lot had some interesting entertainment this year as they look for the perfect christmas tree. abc 7 news was there as people went shopping at the boy scout lot on moraga avenue. this year they added something new. the tap dancing christmas trees put on a performance. and for those kernds about the lot running out of trees organizers say don't we're. >> so far we're still expecting a few more hundred trees but we've gotten the vast majority of the order right now. >> lot is open every day until december 21st, or when all the trees are sold. accuweather certainly doesn't feel like a month until christmas. temperatures today anywhere from 10 to nearly 20 degrees above

rank our storms to 1 to 5 light to severe, it gives you a better idea of what to examine. and the system moving in the next 24 hours, it does rank a 2:00 a moderate storm on the storm impact scale. so we'll have a band of showers moving through. heavy downpours at times. about a quarter to 3/46 an inch of rain of in most areas. but higher amounts in our hills. and the winds will be gusting at times 10 to about 25 miles per hour. so plan out the next 24 hours. future weather tonight, 11:00 on your saturday night. we are dry. the rain is not with us just yet. it's cloudy skies and mild temperatures. early in the morning on sunday 6:00 in the morning this is when we begin to see the rain first moving through the north bay, close to santa rosa at this hour, and the pops of yellow and orange on your screen, that's the heavier rain moving through. we do expect by 9:00 on sunday morning this bachbd showers moving through the heart of the region, san francisco, san ma o mateo, oakland, but you also notice it's a really narrow band of heavy rain. you will notice the downpours.

by 11:00 sunday morning it's beginning to move through the south bay so, san jose right around that lunchtime hour we do expect downpours. behind that front you notice it's a peppering of showers in the afternoon. we're going to have to watch for an isolated thunderstorm to potentially pop up in the second half of our sunday but this system's kind of a one-two punch because another round of showers will move through late sunday into early monday morning. by monday midnight early in the morning another round of heavy rain is going to move through. the accuweather seven-day forecast. as we plan our next seven days for you, tomorrow it's rain in the morning, isolated showers in the afternoon. the very early on your monday it's those heavy showers again really before sunrise. much of your monday once that sun gets up we are dry. and once we're dry monday afternoon we kind of stay that way. it's a steady pattern tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. before cooler air enters the picture within week from today. but tomorrow a lot of people traveling. it's going to be much slower than it was on wednesday before the holiday. >> hey, all i notice is that for

ucla fired their coach jim mora. all of a sudden what looked like a sure thing fell apart and the bruins named chip kelly as their new head coach today. kelly out of coaching this year when the niners let him go after a 2-14 season in 2016. he went 28-35 with philly and the niners for 2013 to 2016 in the nfl. but while coaching oregon he was 46-7 from 2009 to '12, reaching the bcs championship after the 2010 season. he won the pac-12 three times and he's a better fit at the college level. he'll be introduced probably on

>> reporter: this morning retaliation from egypt's air force. air strikes on militants the government blames for the massacre at a mosque, the deadliest attack in egypt in modern history. on friday afternoon at least 300 people were killed. more than 100 injured, when dozens of islamic militants carrying isis flags ambushed a mosque 125 miles northeast of cairo. witnesses reporting explosions from inside the holy site as worshippers attempted to flee outside masked gunmen opening fire, shooting into the mosque and setting fire to cars, cutting off escape routes. even ambulances rushing to the scene facing gunfire. most of the aftermath too gruesome to show. rows of victims, including 27 children. no group has claimed responsibility, but islamic state is suspected. those worshiping may have followed a mystical form of islam called sufism, which isis

says is heresy. overnight a show of solidarity for egypt. the colors of the egypt flag illuminating landmarks and government buildings in israel, toronto, and birmingham, england. >> that was jennifer eccleston reporting. egypt is observing three days of mourning and christian churches across cairo are ringing their bells in memory of the victims. well, thousands of protesters took to the streets of rome today to condemn violence against women. ♪ carrying pink balloons and colorful signs, the protesters marched through the italian capital's historic center. the protests took place just hours after an italian parliament leader joined victims of abuse and mothers of murdered women to mark the international day for the elimination of violence against women. meantime, french president emmanuel macron announced an initiative to address violence and harassment against women in

france. that plan includes erasing the feeling of shame among victims. macron laid out a plan to encourage women to take action, strengthen laws against offenders, and educating citizens on the issue starting from nursery school. a 15-year-old boy suspected of killing his grandmoher in florida is under arrest tonight after trying to cross the border into canada. abc's brad melky with the evidence that's been discovered that could help with the investigation. >> reporter: 15-year-old logan mott is now in custody, suspected of killing his 53-year-old grandmother in florida. he was arrested trying to cross the border into canada near buffalo. logan had traveled more than 1,000 miles from neptune beach, florida in his grandmother's car. >> on friday evening police officers at the peace bridge encountered logan mott who'd made a wrong turn onto the bridge. during the primary inspection officers became aware that mr. mott was the subject of a warrant for grand theft auto out of florida. >> reporter: on wednesday logan and his grandmother were supposed to pick up his father, eric mott, from the airport.

but they never showed up. later the father discovered that two houses had been ransacked. his mother's and his own. >> the processing of the home on thursday revealed evidence of foul play and potential criminal violence inside and then late in the day a potential grave site outside. >> reporter: the body found in a shallow grave in the yard matches the grandmother's description but so far has not been positively identified. >> mott has been detained and is currently being held by the buffalo police department on the grand theft auto warrant. >> reporter: no word yet when logan will be returned to florida. brad melky, abc news, new york. the search is on tonight for a group of people who brought an abrupt end to a 40-year holiday tradition in northern california. family-run cedar ravine tree farm in placerville is now closed this season after thieves hit the business and ransacked the property. reporter steve large picks up that story. >> they clearly busted in the door. they broke off the steel bar. and huge padlock that was on here. >> reporter: a heartless holiday crime. >> they're monssters.

"usa today" reports more than 203,000 people nationwide applied, setting a new one-day record. the two previous records were also on black friday, last year and in 2015. some of the largest gunmakers offered cash rebates in an effort to boost sales which have slumped since president trump's election. >> i love this next story. the giving spirit is alive and well this holiday season with a secret santa who showed up at a toys "r" us store in the philadelphia suburb this morning to do some shopping with his son. he then paid for 62 layaway orders for strangers totaling nearly $11,000. the man, who is going by the

a free parking tradition is back in oakland. one area where the city is ofrlg offering free parking every saturday now through new year's day. all parking meters are free as well as several city-owned parking garages. time limits on meters do still apply. the free parking is an effort by the city tone courage holiday shopping. ah, but this holiday weekend the parking lots on each end of the golden gate bridges shut down to traffic. the closures affect the welcome lot and the vista point at 11:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the evening sunday. officials are taking measures to prevent traffic from backing up into the bridge so visitors who want to enjoy the view in those areas are encouraged to take public transit or use a cab or ride sharing service. well, hollywood is branching out. selecting to shoot more movies in new locations. the latest example is a sequel to "antman" starring paul rudd,

rain. winds will be gusting near 25 miles per hour at times. we're still dry, we have a lot of cloud cover overhead and we're mild. tomorrow morning the rain starts to get its act together. pops of yellow sxornlg not your screen has the heavier downpours for 6:00 in the morning on sunday starting in the north bay. by 9:00 we do expect that thin narrow line of heavier downpours working through the heart of the region and then moving into the south bay close to that lunchtime hour. and even for the 49ers game tomorrow we do expect scattered showers to still be in the forecast. not a bad idea to bring the poncho to levi's stadium. by 20:30 the line of showers is out of here but behind it we turn to more scattered showers and there is the chance even sunday afternoon we could have an isolated thundershower pop up. i just want to quickly show you on the seven-day forecast wheat we're dealing with. monday it's rain before sunrise. i want toechl size rain pops up early in the morning on monday. i know a lot of people may be traveling to the sierra. we do have a winter weather

advisory in effect 4:00 sunday afternoon until 10:00 monday morning. four to eight inches possible above 7,000 feet. if you are headed into the sierra you could have some issues in the mountains. so take note of that. want to show you what's going to happen across the state of california tomorrow. you notice the northern half of the state you're going to be dealing with those showers on and off, say, north of fresno into redding and eureka. but the southern half of the state you're likely good to go with l.a. lots of sunshine and 74 degrees. air travel, our bay area airports tomorrow, especially sfo you know rain can really do a doozy on us. be prepared if you're flying out of sfo, 63 to 67 degrees under showery skies. seattle you have rain but major hubs like new york, chicago, and l.a., you're good to go. we're dry with sunshine on the docket. accuweather seven-day once again, tomorrow we have the rain to showers in the forecast. monday i really want to emphasize that too is before sunrise. so much of your monday when the
