>> announcer: good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. good morning everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, november 26th. let's start with a quick look at our weather with meteorologist lisa argen. hey carolyn. good morning to you. hi everyone. you can see the cold front in the corner of your screen pushing into the north bay. we're looking at downpours towards cloverdale and approaching santa rosa this morning. we'll continue to follow this as it sinks to the south and east bringing rain across the bay area by about the 8:00, 9:00 hour. you notice, compared to 24 hours ago, our temperatures are up

anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees. that's compliments of the southwesterly gusty wind. we're in the low 60s from oakland to concord. 64 in san jose. the wind gusts primarily above 1,000 feet near the oakland hills, mt. tam. a wind gust of 36 miles an hour spring valley. as we go through the morning hours. you notice 8:00, 9:00, the line of showers from vallejo through san francisco and along the peninsula. the core of the system later on tonight that will continue to bring gusty winds, heavy downpours and in between we could see an isolated thunderstorm. your planner throughout the next 12 hours shows the rain and wind developing through the 8:00, 9:00 hour with 50s and 60s. by noontime, we're still looking at some rain. by the later afternoon, we're mild. still ahead of the main system with a possibility of a thunderstorm and then tonight showers. we'll talk about the week ahead, coming up. carolyn? lisa has been updating all

morning long. so you want to keep track of the changing weather conditions where you live with the abc 7 accuweather app. it is free to download. you'll get updates from our weather team. you can monitor the forecast on the go. we have breaking news this morning. oakland police say they're responding to several sideshows in west and east oakland right now. and here is a look at one of the active scenes at high street and coliseum way. a large crowd is gathered at the intersection as cars race around the circle. sideshows have been an ongoing problem in the city. they were beefing up and preparing last sunday. just last month they arrested five people and impounded motorcycles after nearly 200 bikers showed up to perform in sideshows. new developments on a deadly pileup in san pablo. overnight, chp officers arrested

a hit and run suspect in connection with the crash. that killed four people. six others were injured. abc 7 news is at the scene on westbound i-80 near san pablo dam road. that happened after 8:00 last night. a white sedan hit the center divide. two dark-colored suvs were also damaged. the chp says another sedan flipped upside down killing all the passengers inside. >> one of the vehicles overturned. the driver of that vehicle was transported for his injuries. his four passengers were all pronounced dead on the scene. >> investigators say a fifth car involved left the scene. they caught up with that driver. the suspect, several hours later. all lanes on i-80 have now reopened. we first sent a breaking news push alert about that accident at 9:08 last night. if you want to receive immediate notifications when breaking news happens, you can download our

abc 7 news app and enable push alerts. developing news of another serious crash. seven people are injured after a five-car collision on highway 37. chp officials say it happened before 11:30 last night just east of fairgrounds drive in vallejo. no word what caused the accident. two eastbound lanes were closed overnight. and they were reopened about 1:00 this morning. more developing news. postal inspectors are trying to find someone who mailed an explosive device to the home of a police officer in alameda. officers detonated the device on friday. there were injuries but not told us the extent of the injuries or how many people were hurt. alcohol, tobacco and firearms agents are joining the investigation. a tree came down in san francisco blocking traffic in corona heights. abc 7 news was at roosevelt way

where the large pine tree fell around 6:30 last night. it took more than an hour to clean up. inspectors will take a look at a possibly damaged retaining wall and an arborist will determine what brought that tree down. b.a.r.t. is telling riders to be careful with their cell phones. friday night there were phone thefts at four b.a.r.t. stations. since then, police stepped up patrols, even escorted some riders to their cars. abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington spoke with passengers in oakland. >> reporter: once again, a mob of teenagers is being blamed for snatching cell phones from b.a.r.t. riders. the latest incident happened at oakland coliseum station. two people had phones yanked from their hands. b.a.r.t. police arrested a 14-year-old. >> my hope is to get b.a.r.t. to break this pattern. >> rusty was not surprised to hear about the theft. he's suing b.a.r.t. after a group of teenagers took over his

train in april and attacked him, his wife and daughter. >> my big worry is at some point there's going to be a worse incident than what we had. rather than impeding in a robbery. someone is going to pull a knife. >> he wants to see more b.a.r.t. police at high crime stations and a stronger crackdown on fare evaders. >> passengers i talked to are concerned about the uptick in crimes. >> it's unfortunate for the kids that they're involved in this behavior. >> nowadays you've got to look around, you have to know your surroundings. be cautious because of what's going on nowadays. you can't trust very many people. this is the latest in a string of robberies and attacks at b.a.r.t. stations. thursday a man at fruitvale station was punched in the head and robbed while buying his ticket. friday, a passenger was knocked to the ground inside a train in an attempted cell phone theft. a phone was snatched from a passenger at union city station and another cell phone was taken from the hands of a victim walking down the steps to 16th street station in san francisco. b.a.r.t. did launch an awareness campaign this summer.

they posted signs like this inside trains and make regular safety announcements. alyssa harrington, abc 7 news. an 89-year-old woman is dead after police say she was hit by a drunk driver on thanksgiving night. the three-car collision happened a little before 9:00 at lawrence expressway and monroe avenue in santa clara. the woman was a passenger in one of the cars. officers have arrested a 21-year-old man. he faces multiple charges. the victim's name has not been released. officers have arrested a prominent marin county businessman at his novato home after being called to a shooting. abc 7 news was on vineyard road where investigators say one person survived the shooting and is in stable condition. according to the marin i.j., the suspect william thomas bradley, is the retired owner of w. bradley electric incorporated. a company that brings in nearly

$100 million a year. three men are in jail accused of kidnapping a woman during a wild series of crimes in mendocino county. investigators say the trio went to a home on monday demanding money and drugs from a woman and kept her against her will. when a family member arrived at the house, the three men ran off in an suv leaving the woman behind. that vehicle was spotted later where police pulled it over and arrested the suspects. online sales jumped to a record high this thanksgiving and black friday. adobe analytics says retailers pulled in $7.9 billion in online sales. up nearly 18% from last year. tomorrow, cyber monday is expected to bring in another $6.6 billion in sales which would be the largest online shopping day ever in the united states.

this trend is putting brick and mortar stores are in danger. that's why many mom and pop shops and boutique stores take part in small business saturday. but is that day making a difference? abc 7 news anchor dion lim has the story. >> reporter: at union street, small business saturday started out strong. >> the bird has a night light and like three little settings. >> reporter: but didn't end that way. just about every other small business are offering deep discounts and more. >> we serve nespressos, we gift wrap. we're your therapist for 15 minutes. we do it all. >> reporter: it's the price to compete against the big box stores and black friday deals. with online being the preferred mode of shopping, small business owners are strategizing. >> figure out how to strategize your search engine. you're watching youtube videos and talking to other retailers, figuring out what they're doing.

welcome back everyone it's 6:13 on this sunday morning. thank you for joining us on abc 7 mornings. hope you had a lovely thanksgiving and are enjoying the rest of your holiday weekend. this is a live look from our emeryville camera. kind of shaking a little bit there. it is breezy today. there are going to be showers later on. as we head into this last week of november, lisa will be along shortly with a full accuweather forecast. happening today, the 49 ers will hold the inaugural -- they will celebrate active and retired responders. the team is going to recognize firefighters who helped battle the north bay wildfires. 100 bay area first responders will hold the american flag during the national anthem. and a 15-year chp veteran will perform. today's game against the seahawks starts at 1:05.

another nfl protest planned for today. the group refused fascism will kneel in front of the oakland coliseum before the raiders game this afternoon. protesters say they're responding to president trump's threat against players who kneel during the national anthem, including raiders running back marshawn lynch. last week the president criticized lynch for standing for the mexican anthem and sitting for the national anthem during a game in mexico city. today the raiders play against the broncos in oakland. kickoff at 1:25. the protests outside the coliseum is at noon. we've been talking about small business saturday and the deals and steals. small business saturday was a chance to support local merchants, assist the wildfires. business owners in sonoma county really need customers. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard has the story.

>> there's holiday music in the air and lots of customers in the stores. the sonoma plaza was crowded on this small business saturday. >> is it good to see a lot of people on the street today? >> of course. the more the better. we're grateful. >> the candlestick shop owner says it's an early christmas gift to see customers returning since the wildfires. >> people got the impression that we were devastated and we're not. >> we want to let everybody know we're up and running. >> margo vows to do all of her holiday shopping locally. >> i think the small businesses are the heart of america. >> walt pinot noir tasting room is open and pouring extra glasses. >> this is marvelous to see the square full and people people coming and supporting us, it's great. >> in downtown santa rosa, the streets weren't quite as crowded, but many like dina and her friend gail, doing their part. >> i always feel strongly about supporting local businesses anyway. but with the fire, even more.

>> the metro chamber of commerce is offering this holiday shopping passport filled with downtown discounts. long-time florist says she needs help. >> my business is very, very bad because i lost lots of customers around the fountain grove area. >> some customers relocated after the fire but many are slowly returning. >> we want you to come back downtown and fall in love with it all over again. sonoma strong. now and through the holidays. in sonoma county, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. the el cerrito community is banding together to continue a holiday tradition started by one of the first residents of the city. abc 7 news was on mouser lane where boy scout troops shoveled and spread mulch on a hillside. it will turn into a vista of lambs, angels and saints just like the one created by beloved neighbor sun dar shoddy. >> it's something that mr. shoddy put on to his property years ago. the public can continue to come

and see the display that he started more than 50 years ago. >> the display will be up this year from december 10th to the 26th. it will be lit up every night from 5:00 until 10:00. good morning to you. sunday morning. we're spreading this rainfall out throughout the entire day. so it's going to be rainy, windy and we could see a thunderstorm. here's the leading edge of a cold front that's pushing through the north bay. live doppler 7 going in closer. you can see the heavier downpours along cloverdale and guerneville. just offshore of inverness and point ray. it's spreading rainfall within the next hour through midday. out ahead of it, very gusty winds. low 60s novato. mountain view. we're looking at 64 degrees in san jose. so right now the winds gusting

from 36 miles an hour above half moon bay, mt. tam. up to 30 mile an hour gusts. oakland, the oakland hills around mt. diablo. explore tore yum camera, a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. then the rain will taper off later on tonight. i think the stronger sector of the storm will be by about midnight. that sweeps on through quickly. let's spell it out for you. it's a 1 on the storm impact scale through this morning. then the showers, maybe a thunderstorm this afternoon and again overnight tonight bringing light to moderate rain at times, anywhere from a quarter of an inch to 3/4 of an inch and the wind will accompany the heavy downpours. here's the timeline. 6:00 this morning in the north bay. then by 8:00, you can see the line of rain. it's light rain, but look what happens as it passes through. we're going to get these showers generated behind the system and some of these will be very heavy

downpours from pleasanton along the santa cruz mountains tonight. this is the stronger line, the system, the cold core system that moved overhead with the gusty winds and more downpours. by 2:00 in the morning, things are beginning to push out of town. and we'll wake up to really a nicer afternoon. in fact, the morning commute should be pretty good on monday morning. so expected rainfall, anywhere from a quarter of an inch to .4, upwards of .6 in the north bay. here's the wind this morning. you can see with the passage of the cold front, 10:00 this morning, 15 to 20 miles an hour. then we get a lull. still showers though, maybe a thunderstorm. then the really main system comes through at 11:00 tonight. you can see the 25 to 30 mile an hour wind gust frs the peninsula to the coast. right on through the city. early morning hours things settle down. winter weather advisory through the mountains. 48 inches above 7,000 feet. starting out as rain.

kind of a warm system. then behind it the snow levels will lower quickly. we're looking at some gusty winds and visibility being reduced. how much snow? about half a foot from south lake looking at -- or perhaps a foot in kirkwood. highs ranging from the low to mid-060s with showers. the accuweather seven-day forecast showing the main activity. more showers in the afternoon. the heavier rainy think tonight. you wake up to partly cloudy conditions. wet pavement. maybe even some fog. then we'll look for a sunny, really morning and afternoon throughout the rest of the week. we are looking at the temperatures coming down a little bit monday and tuesday. but notice, we're dry, partly cloudy, bright conditions and friday begins december. we're looking at mild weather and not as much rain as we would hope. >> can you believe december? >> yep. >> all right. thanks, lisa.

it took 45 minutes just to give us an idea of what big the nest was. he laid it all out on the lawn. it stretched nearly 20 feet. the exterminator has been doing this for two decades. he said no hornets were injured during the removal and neither was he. still to come here on abc 7 mornings, the man attacked by a shark in monterrey county is expected to survive. what witnesses say he was doing just before it happened. it's the season of giving. how a secret santa is paying it forward at a toys-r-us store.

welcome back everyone. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather. with our meteorologist, lisa argen. carolyn good morning to you. you can see a line of rain an heavy downpours behind me. this is live doppler 7. we're zooming in on the heavier rain. cloverdale had a pretty good downpour south of bodega bay. about to push into inverness and point reyes. it's raining in sabt arose a. temperatures in the low 60s. 63 in concord. 64 in san jose. wind gusts from 15 to 35 miles an hour in the upper elevation. so you may be able to hear some of that wind and, of course, we're feeling the effects with the mild temperatures. it is a 1 on our storm impact

hundreds. the imam who survived describes the moment of terror. abc news reporter linda lopez has more. >> so many graves and so many more for the over 300 victims including 27 children in the horrifying terrorist attack on an egyptian mosque. the surviving imam conducting friday prayers at the time of the assault, recounting the moment the slaughter began. >> saying i heard what sounded like an explosion outside the mosque and some people came inside firing at the worshippers. survivors two dozen militants carrying isis flags surrounded the mosque 125 miles northeast of cairo hurling explosives into the mosque and firing at everybody trying to escape. then they stepped inside, shooting anybody who was still alive. many victims said their final prayers during the carnage and they even shot at arriving ambulances. no group has claimed responsibility but the islamic state is suspected.

those worshipping may have followed a mystical form of islam called sufism. isis considers it heresy. muslims in the u.s. condemning the attack. >> it connects back to the texas shootings we had recently. people worshipping, killing them doesn't make any point. i feel really sad that it's still happening. >> egypt's military retaliating. their air force striking militant hideouts in the sinai peninsula. linda lopez, abc news new york. thousands of protesters took to the streets of rome to condemn violence against women. ♪ carrying pink balloons and colorful signs, they marched through the italian capital's historic center. that protest taking place hours after the italian parliament leaders joined victims of abuse and mothers of murdered women to mark the international day for the elimination of violence against women.

french president emanuel macron announced an initiative. to address violence and harassment against women in france. his plan includes erasing the feeling of shame among victims. macron laid out a plan to encourage women to take action. stripped of laws against offenders and educate others starting from nursery school. bay area congresswoman jackie spire will talk more about sexual misconduct in washington. and what she believes should be the proper response to it on this week with george stephanopoulos. plus, hear from senator tim scott and former chair of the joint chief of staffs, admiral mike mullen as well. this week starts at 8:00 after "good morning america" followed by abc 7 news at 9:00. a ninth grader is the only person of interest in the disappearance of his grandmother in florida. her remains may have been found in a grave in his backyard. katrina french has been missing

since wednesday. her 15-year-old grandson was detained friday night by federal agents near the canadian border. mott's arrest is comforting to his florida neighbors. >> horrifying that something like this could happen to any family. as a mom, it makes me feel better it wasn't a stranger that picked a random house and broke into it and did this violence. >> mott's mother says he's had trouble adjusting in recent months after transferring away and entering high school. a spear fishermen is expected to make a full recovery after being bitten by a shark. that attack happened friday in stillwater cove off pebble beach. witnesses reported seeing the shark come up from behind the man. two off-duty sheriff's deputies happened to be fishing in the area. they put a tourniquet on his leg to stop the bleeding. the victim is 25 years old and was fishing with his father at the time.

>> swam to the surface to tell his dad what he had seen and when he was at the surface, the shark attacked him. >> the wetsuit was inside the zodiac. it was shredded. there was a lot of blood. >> they now have signs posted at the beach warning people about that shark attack. monterrey county sheriff's office says there had been previous reports of a shark in the area. the giving spirit is alive and well this holiday season. a secret santa showed up at a toys-r-us store in new jersey to do some shopping with his son. he then paid for 62 lay away orders for strangers totaling nearly $11,000. the man who is going by the name charlie k. says it's his way of giving back. >> what made you want to do something like that? >> just trying to bring some happiness to people. that's really it. bring back to the community. that brought so much happiness to me and my family. bravo charlie k.

the winds will accompany a cold front in the next couple of hours. then the main part of the system, even stronger. but it's going to be brief with the heavy downpours. live doppler 7 showing enhancement with the yellows here. near mt. st. helena where the radar is. you'll notice from clear lake to lower lake, we've got moderate rain and pushing to the south from dillon beach to marquez springs, santa rosa, it's been raining. further south into marin county, west marin around marshall looking at some wet weather and then one more stop and you'll notice we're still offshore with some of the heavier downpours which will fill in throughout the morning and late afternoon hours. we're going to provide a little bit of sunshine. that will work to destabilize the atmosphere further. we can see the downpours come down further with a thunderstorm. winds down 1200 feet.

very gusty and check out san jose 101. isn't this buteautifulbeautiful? we'll look for a quarter of an inch to third of an inch. rain and wind developing this morning. a chance of a thunderstorm. it tapers off overnight tonight. so it's in a couple of parts this storm system from tonight throughout the afternoon into tomorrow. we'll break it down to a 1 on our storm impact scale. gusty winds. a quarter of an inch to .75 inches. a variety of weather today. be safe and snap us some pictures. from 8:00 this morning, here's the front. it pushes through and then behind it, look at all the showers that will develop. by about 5:00, as the atmosphere has a chance to warm up and heat the ground, we could see some of the thunderstorms. you can see a line right there. then we get a bit of alull. look what happens here. 11:00 tonight. that's the main part of the system that pushes through. overnight, things settle down and we're sunny towards your monday morning commute. amounts anywhere from a quarter of an inch to .6 in calistoga.

maybe a third of an inch in oakland through tomorrow morning. here's the front this morning. ahead of it with the breezy winds, 20 to 30 miles an hour. 10:00 this morning, mainly on the coast. the 30 mile an hour wind gusts. remember, with the downpours, you do see some isolated heavy winds and then with the system, the main system tonight, even gustier. but then after that, wake up to some wet pavement and some sunshine. so winter weather advisory, 4:00 this afternoon through 10:00 tomorrow. 4 to 8 inches above 7,000 feet. gusty winds and we'll look for anywhere from a foot of snow 7 inches tahoe city. the highs today, the rainfall amounts, let's get you caught up with that. we're looking at a third of an inch and highs today anywhere from mid up toer 60s. we'll be warm ahead and behind the system. the accuweather seven-day forecast. keep the rain gear handy. it will be one of those days where you see everything out there and then a string of sunny

>> i was here before it was fremont. >> really? >> teixeira is another one of the bay area cancer patients benefiting from drivers for survivors. volunteers like this man commit to not only picking up and delivering patients to their appointments, but they also provide companionship along the way. >> cheer them up with whatever distraction i can. and say hey, did you see the ball game yesterday? >> now in its fifth year, drivers for survivors is expanding beyond the area to several more cities and the nonprofit formed a partnership with kaiser permanente. >> we have the tools for diagnosis, for treatment, but we have the emotional support items as we have our network in the community. >> it is a challenging time for those that get diagnosed and being able to have a friend that actually goes with you and cares about your well-being -- >> it's going to be an hour and a half. >> get seen by your doctor and you have somebody there supporting you when you walk out of the office.

happening today, san francisco city hall will deck the halls with its world tree of hope. the rainbow world fund deck
