he said 40 years ago this did not happen. >> reporter: trump tweeted support for moore over the weekend and blasted his opponent democrat doug jones. the last thing we need in alabama and the u.s. senate is a schumer/pelosi puppet weak on crime, weak on the border. jones would be a disaster. >> it's clear to me the best thing roy moore can do for the country is to move on. >> reporter: more than 20 republican senators are calling for moore to quit the race. capitol hill is still reeling from sexual harassment allegations against prominent lawmakers. minnesota democratic senator al franken, accused of improperly touching four women, broke his silence speaking to a television station. >> i am a long way back -- i have a long way back to win the trust of the people of minnesota. i've let the people down. >> reporter: john conyers is denying allegations he sexually harassed women on his staff. he stepped down on the house judiciary committee amid an ethics investigation.

quickly. abc 7 news was at the estuary as they led the search with a dive team from san francisco. >> the vehicle was located about 30 feet of water, under water, zero visibility in the estuary. everything is by touch down there. you can't see anything. >> paramedics tried to revive scherer. he died at the hospital. happening today students, parents, and educators plan to pack the unified school district's board meeting protesting a proposal to cut millions of dollars they believe will hurt students. earlier this month the school district said it needed to cut $15 million from its budget to build its fangs reserves. the district is falling short of meeting state mandates. today's school board meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at la escuelita elementary school in oakland. california weeks away from the legal use of medical marijuana. now a report on the problems new

forecast. first, good morning to frances. there have been quite a few accidents. the chp is clearing them quickly. a live shot at the golden gate bridge. southbound 101 at spencer but they're working on clearing that. right now you can see traffic is light but roads are slick and wet. and a live shot of walnut creek, southbound 680 for the taillights moving well for highway 24. there is another accident southbound 680 in danville. and that one hopefully will be cleared as well. the hot spot this morning is a sig alert in hayward. eastbound 92. there's a full closure so we'll keep you posted on that one. and just coming in new this morning, a car caught fire on interstate 80 in vallejo. luckily no one was hurt in that. we just got this video. the fire was first reported around 10:50 near the redwood off ramp. abc news viewers shared the video of the car on fire. the car was destroyed.

the abc 7 storm impact scale. today's storm is level one. that means light rain, so keep an umbrella handy and drive safely. track today's storm anytime on the abc 7 news app. download it now. a wild story from the los angeles area overnight. officers in southern california shot and killed a man after he barricaded himself inside of a car with his 7-month-old daughter for showers. police say the 22-year-old man pulled a knife and threatened his girlfriend inside the car, then threatened to hurt himself. a s.w.a.t. team used a flash bang device to get him out of the car. he got out but police struggled to get the baby away from the suspect. a man who knew the man explains what happened. >> he was telling me he's a little scared of what's going on. the baby was in no danger

whatsoever. we all know that. i told the cops what he told me, if one of us, myself, my dad or my brother go to the car he would give us the kid and he would come out. >> the baby was taken to safety and appeared to be unhurt. this morning two fugitives who escaped from the palo alto jailhouse are back in jail. the second inmate who had been on the run has been arrested. john bivins was taken into custody at a san leandro hotel. alyssa harrington has that. >> reporter: this is where a nearly three-week manhunt came to an end outside room 204 of the fairmont inn in san leandro where the manager says john bivins stayed for just one night. someone else booked the room then let bivins inside. that accomplice's car was towed away. u.s. marshals waited all night and watched for the fugitive to

walk outside. bivins finally exited his room around 9:30 sunday morning but didn't get far. other motel guests say u.s. marshals shocked him with a taser right here in this parking lot. this man had just arrived to check in when the arrest took place. >> i was coming from the outside from the street and i was parking my car and the police came in. scared. >> reporter: 47-year-old bivins had been on the run since november 6th along with fellow inmate tramel mcclough. they escaped from a palo alto jailhouse. the pair was tracked down to walmart on tuesday. they arrested mcclough but pitches got away. the u.s. marshal says he got in a car and tried to run over members of law enforcement. bivins was later captured on surveillance video at a gas station that night. he's now being treated at a hospital and will be sent back to santa clara to face

additional criminals charges. in san leandro, abc 7 news. nearly two months after the deadly mass shooting, survivors gathered over the weekend for a holiday pot luck. about 100 survivors shared a meal and opened up about the horrific event. some said the pot luck was the first time they've been out in public since the shooting. others have not returned to work, traumatized by the attack. >> it sunk in that a lot of people have moved on and don't realize we're still struggling, we're still healing. >> 58 people were killed in the massacre, about 500 others were hurt. uber and lyft drivers protested for higher wages on one of the busiest travel days of the year. yesterday they picketed outside of l.a.x. drivers say they often wait in traffic to pick up passengers from the airport who then only go a few miles. they say the short trip isn't worth the wait. uber tells our sister station in

and good morning. it's 5:00 a.m. it's monday when a lot of you go back to work, isn't it? welcome back. we're here to get you off to a good start. there is going to be a lot of rain on the roads, though. >> it could be a tough commute. >> had to slow down today. it took about five or ten minutes longer to get to work at least, and that's because there was hardly anyone on the roads. once you get deeper into this and you can still see the showers, some encroaching the golden gate bridge now and highway 37 across the north bay. put this into motion and you can see the heaviest is over. we still have plenty of chances of showers. you can see the puddles on the embarcadero here and san francisco has had more than a half inch of rain. 7:00 in the
