live are you live, this is abc 7 news. >> shots ring out in san jose, and an elementary school is the target. for the second time this month, a surveillance camera is shot out. and this morning, neighbors caught the shooter in the act. thanks for joining us, everyone, i'm carolyn tyler. kristen sze will be in later today. police swarmed the willow glen neighborhood overnight, setting up a huge presence in the area you see here. near booksin elementary. abc 7 news reporter matt keller talked with the woman who chased the gunman before he got away. matt is live at the school in

san jose, very dramatic, matt. >> reporter: carolyn, this is the second time this has happened at booksin elementary here in san jose. the good news, this midday, police do have surveillance video of the shooter and they're looking at that right now. a ride awakening on a tuesday morning in the willow glen neighborhood of san jose. >> we just heard the first shot and we both went outside to go see what it was. >> reporter: karen and her husband, bill, saw the man with a shotgun taking aim at booksin elementary school on booksin avenue and dry creek road. >> i saw the gunman shooting out the main camera underneath the library. you can see the camera is shot out. >> reporter: karen and bill both started cha eed chasing the gun against the advice of the police dispatcher. >> i started hyperventilating, said he's pointing at me, pointing at me. she said can you hide behind a tree, what can you? i hit the ground. >> reporter: the gunman escaped their grasp as police swooped

into the area and set up a perimeter. they blocked off roads around booksin elementary and went door to door looking for the gunman. after searching for less than two hours, officers deem the neighborhood was safe. >> completely wild, completely wild. why? why would you do that? elementary school. 4:00 a.m. it's so nuts. >> reporter: this is the second time this month karen called police about gunshots at booksin elementary school. the campus was hit with the same type of vandalism more than two weeks ago over the veterans day weekend. a different surveillance camera was damaged by gunfire. >> i think it's more concerting that it's happened again. >> any time you have any sort of gun violence, no matter where it is, it's troubling especially on a school campus, especially given the times we're in right now. the parent concerns are completely understandable, completely justified. >> reporter: we have seen a big police presence around booksin elementary school all morning long. we're told by district officials they're requesting more patrols for after-school activities.

reporting live in san jose, math ke matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you. breaking news this midday from north korea, the country launched a missile in the last hour. that's according to the south korean news agency. it is unclear where that missile is headed, but right now, both south korea and the united states are analyzing the trajectory. this is the first missile launch from the north since september. happenng now, day four of jury deliberations under way in the kate steinle case. jurors have been behind closed doors since 9:30 this morning deciding whether the defendant intentionally shot and killed the bay area woman on pier 14. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at san amy? >> reporter: hi, carolyn. well, the waiting continues. the jury has been deliberating for about an hour and a half. here's what it looks like in the hallway on the second floor

outside the courtroom. the lawyers are here, they're walking the halls pacing the floor waiting just like the rest of us. the jury had a question yesterday, and that was addressed in a closed courtroom. the media was not allowed in. other than that, it has been quiet. jurors are debating whether jose inez garcia zarate murdered kate steinle. he says he accidentally shot her. she was shot and killed two years ago at pier 13 in san francisco. zarate is an undocumented immigrant with a criminal record who was set to be deported, but sanfrancisco's sanctuary city laws protected him and he was allowed to stay. so this case ignited a national debate on immigration. the jury got the case last tuesday afternoon, and we will be here to bring you the verdict just as soon as the jury comes up with it. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> and you can be the first to know when the verdict comes down by downloading our free app, and enabling push alerts. we'll also bring you the verdict

live on air and online at abc7news.com. new this morning, a san leandro police officer is out of a job facing criminal charges. marco bisera is accused of unlawful sexual acts with a 17-year-old police explorer. that program is for young people interested in in pursuing law enforcement careers. investigators say the misconduct between becerra and the girl happened while he was off duty. officer becerra resigned from the san leandro police department. firefighters in milgray are investigating a house fire that may have left one person hurt. sky 7 was over the scene near skyline boulevard just before 7:30 this morning. you can see a lot of damage there to the roof. emergency crews wheeled one person out on a stretcher. no word yet on the extent of the injuries. developing news in san francisco. a water main break is slowing

traffic near 2 nd and harrison streets. sky 7 was over the scene. public utility crews worked to contain water that was gushing into the streets a short time ago. the puc says the break was likely called by old pipes. right now, only one lane of traffic is open eastbound on 2nd street between fulsome and harrison. traffic and water service are likely to be affected for at least another four hours. now to some startling news for anyone who gets deliveries. bay area law enforcement is investigating a second package explosion in less than one week. the u.s. postal service says both packages were delivered to homes through the mail. one was at a police officer's home in alameda. the second at a home in east palo alto. the man who opened that package suffered burns to his hands. >> what was most suspicious about it is it's a jewelry store box, up in of us had ordered something like that and it's something that would

someone's interest, they'd want to open it. >> investigators will not say if they think the two incidents are connected. lol lhollywood producer har weinstein faces a lawsuit filed by kardian noble. accuses weinstein and his brother of violating sex trafficking laws. court papers filed in new york detail accusations of weinstein traveling across the u.s. and overseas to promise young actresses film roles in exchange for sex. noble, herself, claims weinstein assaulted her in a french hotel room. he has not commented on these newest allegations. new this morning, capitol hill's top two democrats abruptly pulled out of a planned budget meeting with president trump after the president attacked them on twitter. mr. trump's tweet accused senate minority leader charles schumer and house minority leader nancy

pelosi of being, quote, weak on crime and said, "i do not see a deal." that deal would keep the federal government open and running after a temporary spending bill expires next friday. the president may need democrats to vote for his tax plan. if some republicans oppose it. congressional democrats released this statement saying, "given that the president doesn't see a deal between democrats and the white house, we believe the best path forward is to continue negotiating with our republican counterparts in congress instead." new details from across the pond on the royal wedding countdown, from the venn you uee date. we're learning more about plans for prince harry and meghan markle to tie the knot. plus, it's a day of giving from coast to coast. how several south bay charities are doing their part to spread some holiday cheer. and good morning from the accuweather weather center. we're dealing with a whole lot of sunshine. mother nature giving us a break from the wet weather for the next several days.

castle. abc 7 news reporter molly hunter is in london with a closer look at the royal couple's road to the altar. ♪ >> congratulations. >> reporter: the bookies were right, the venue is chosen and the countdown is on. prince harry and meghan markle will get married next may at st. george's chapel at windsor castle. the same gorgeous chapel harry's father, prince karcharles, marr his stepfather, camilla, in 2005. today camilla voicing excitement for the pair. >> absolutely thrilled. it's brilliant. as i said, america's loss is our gain, and we're all absolutely delighted. as you can see, they're so happy. >> reporter: the royal family will pay for the wedding and the queen, herself, will be in attendance. no word yet on whether she'll bring her corgis that according to harry like meghan so much. before the wedding, though, meghan will have to get baptized. she's currently protestant. she'll retain her u.s. citizenship, that is until her

flnow today's morning money report. a new scandal for san francisco-based wells fargo. charged hundreds of clients foreign transaction fees. only 35 out of 300 businesses were charged the price they'd been quoted. by wells fargo bankers. four foreign exchange bankers have reportedly been fired. and the "wall street journal" says there is now a federal investigation. several south bay charities are getting involved in today's nationwide giving tuesday movement. the sip kitchen loaves and fishes hopes to raise $30,000 to help feed people this holiday season. sacred heart community service wants to give people props and donations to show their thanks if for the work they're doing. and the urban eagle village in san jose is offering free meditation, yoga, lectures and

workshops. you know it's no secret the bay area has one of the hottest housing markets in the country. call it one of the most expensive as well. now we have good company in a place you might not expect. turns out the north pole is red lot just in time for the holiday season. zillow released a report saying the value of santa's home has jumped 6.5% from last winter. zillow shared this video tour. the christmas cottage is now worth an estimated $710,000. santa recently upgraded with new tiny homes in the elf village and he's got a taproom for hot chocolate. >> yeah. >> way to go, santa. >> wonder if he's got some cookies in there, too. >> i'm sure he does. >> i hope so. nice price on that house. looks nicer than mine and mine costs a lot more. >> exactly. so you want to talk about some sunshine? see a lot of it behind us. >> it's been pretty cold even with the sunshine. >> it was really cold this

morning. absolutely. we had temperatures in the 30s and 40s. hi, everybody. it was because of the brighter start out there. that drier air. you can see on this time lapse from mt. tam, watch the sun as a moves from east to west across the bay. some of those clouds that tried to develop. the big story was the fog in the north bay through most of the morning. it's gone. let's take a look at temperatures. 50 in cloverdale. 52 napa and vallejo. 57 in san francisco. half moon bay, hayward, mountain view. antioch. 56 in san ramon. san jose, 58 degrees. here's a look at our next system. desn't do much for us. the rain is going to day quell blank blank stay stay well to the north. increase in high clouds as that passes up to the north. pretty clear. great day to go to the golden gate. light breezes. the air is not quite as clean as it was yesterday. a little hazier. but not spare the air day. still a nice day with seasonal temperatures and mostly sunny skies. any high clouds dissolve overflight and allows fog to

you can see some cooler weather with a slight chance of rain saturday and sunday. carolyn? >> thank you, mike. happening today, oakland city council is expected to discuss a major development project for the oakland hills. the sun cal homes project includes hundreds of homes and retail shopping. today, council members will consider zoning districts and environmental impact. they approved the project earlier this month but labor groups are worried the agreement doesn't involve union workers. the developer tells abc 7 news it will use union workers during the site preparation phase with most of them coming from oakland. tonight is your chance to weigh in on the upcoming launch of a parking reservation system at mere woods. earlier this month it was announced anyone bringing a vehicle to the national park would be required to make a reservation starting in january. the forum is set to start at 6:00 tonight at the tam valley community center in mill valley.

transbay terminal in san francisco. ac transit service may not start until june. the "chronicle" reports there's an issue with the wiring of the new multibeiillion dollar trans hub. the report says wiring was supposed to be finished next month but now won't happen until march. once wiring is complete ac transit will need a couple months to train drivers on new double decker buses and the routes. new this morning, san francisco has narrowed down its list of streets to test uber and lyft loading zones. according to the "exam"examiner there are eight possible locations the city wants to look at. neighborhoods include the mar a marina, hayes valley, inner sunset and fisherman's wharf. one loading zone will be tested and perfected before uber adds more to the rest of the city. the "examiner" is also reporting mayor ed lee hopes the loading
