i'm going to be tracking it here at the live desk as well as reaction that is starting to come in this morning. right now i want to switch gears and talk about a story we've been closely watching throughout the night. a gunman dead after police say he started shooting from a high rise luxury condo in downtown reno. police say the gunman was barricaded with a hostage around 7:00 last night on the 8th floor of the montage complex on north sierra street. that's when he was shooting at the street below. officers then shot the suspect and he died on the way to the hospital. the only injury reported is a hand injury. unclear exactly who that person is, the hostage is now safe, no injuries and police think the suspect and the hostage did have some sort of domestic relationship. back to you. >> jessica, thank you. it is 4:30 now. if you're just joining us over to meteorologist mike nicco with a check of your weather. hi, mike. hi, everybody.

that drier air out there keeping us pretty quiet this morning, and you may notice your hands, your throat, your sinuses drier this morning than normal. your 12-hour planner, yeah, for this wednesday. accuweather 12-hour planner says 44 to 48 degrees at 7:00. look at that. pretty uniform air mass. 58 to 60 at 4:00. if you're heading out this evening 50 to 52 degrees. let's get more on what's going on this morning with frances. >> all right. we have a bad accident on the bay bridge. it's in the eastbound direction. here is a live shot. looks like they're starting to open up the two left lanes but eastbound out of san francisco past treasure island you can see traffic is backing up. we'll keep you posted on this big rig accident and injuries have been involved in this crash. now it could impact traffic at the toll plaza. still light right now. we'll keep you posted this morning. guys? frances, thank you.

the jury in the kate steinle murder trial is entering a faith day of deciding the fate of jose ines garcia zarate. >> it's a case that's garnered national attention. amy hollyfield is live at the san francisco hall of justice. good morning, amy. >> reporter: good morning, matt. if you are thinking this jury is taking a long time, think again. we checked with the prosecutor across the bay who said this amount of time is not unusual. >> murder trials can last for weeks in terms of deliberations, or they can come back very quickly in a couple of days. if they come back today i would say that was a very quick verdict. >> reporter: the jury is trying to decide whether to convict jose ines garcia zarate of murder. zarate says he picked up a gun he found on the ground, and it just went off. prosecutors believe he deliberately pointed it and fired at kate steinle walking

with her father at pier 14 when she was shot and killed. the shooting brought attention to san francisco's sanctuary city law and that's because zarate, who had a criminal record, was set to be deported by federal officials but local authorities in the sanctuary city law allowed him to stay here. the jury is due back in the courtroom to start deliberating again at 9:00 this morning. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thanks, amy. be the first to know when the verdict comes down by downloading our free app and enabling push alerts. we'll bring you the verdict live. this morning the chp is investigating a high-speed chase in martinez that ended with the suspect's car crashing. >> investigators say officers tried to stop the car on highway 4 just after 10:00 p.m. after receiving reports of a group of cars getting ready to race. the female driver took off and the pursuit started. officials say the driver tried to exit while going about 100 miles an hour and lost control and crashed.

the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. officials say she was be booked into jail when she is released. two passengers also have minor injuries. now to an overnight fire in the east bay. it broke out in san leandro near joaquin avenue. the alameda county fire department posted these photos on its instagram page that show crews putting out the fire. officials say a woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. she was not taken to the hospital. no one else was hurt. the san francisco board of supervisors has approved regulations for the sale of marijuana. once it becomes legal in january. supervisors voted a 600-foot buffer zone between stores and schools yesterday. some members of the city's chinese immigrant community were asking for a much larger barrier. the board rejected provision that is would allow them to limit the number of pot shops or ban them outright. this breaking news from tampa where police say they have arrested a 24-year-old man in

connection to a string of recent homicides. they say they arrested him yesterday after a tip he had a gun at a mcdonald's. the suspect's name is howell emanuel donaldson now charged with four counts of first-degree murder. you may remember that police had been on the manhunt for a possible serial killer in the area for nearly two months. four people have been killed in that particular area since october 9th. >> jessica, thank you. a canadian man accused in the massive yahoo! e-mail attack faces up to nine years in prison when he's sentenced in february. karim baratov pled guilty in san francisco yesterday. his lawyers say that he was a minor player in the scheme organized by russian intelligence officers. three russian men are also accused. a federal indictment says more than half a billion yahoo! accounts were exposed. happening today moscow's ambassador to the united states will be in san francisco to inspect the former russian

consula consulate. it was left in september after washington ordered moscow to vacate some of its diplomatic properties. the move came as relations soured between the two countries. no word on what the ambassador wants to see. russian officials say he's scheduled to meet with business leaders. the san jose couple who bought a private street in san francisco plan to go to court to get it back. abc 7 news was at the presidio terrace where they were celebrating a vote to overturn the street's sale. michael chang and his wife bought it for $90,000 at a tax auction in 2015. the sale came after homeowners failed to pay $994 in back taxes. neighbors claim they were not properly notified of the delinquent tax bill. let's talk about some chilly temperatures. danville, 39 degrees. san ramone at 41. lafayette, 41. livermore, 42. everybody else around 44 to 46

degrees. here's a look at the san mateo bridge, nice and dry and moving rather well right now. we'll let frances keep an eye on that. i'm here to tell you there's less fog on the road so getting around the north bay is much easier so far. mass transit, chilly this morning, mild this afternoon and a light chop if you're going to be out on the water. your 12-hour temperature planner. 8:00, 50 degrees. heading out for lunch, 58 degrees. we'll hang out around 59 at 2:00. down to 55 at 6:00. 54 at 8:00. down in the south bay bigger range. 49 at 8:00. noon, 62. 64 at 2:00. still in the 60s 4:00. back to the mid to upper 50s this evening. look how quiet it is. a ton of sunshine. 60 around fresno and also up towards sacramento, 47 in tahoe. a quick look at the seven day for tahoe. a chance of rain but only about a 20% chance.

look at our chances of rain. uh-oh, where did they go? we'll talk about that coming up. here is frances. i was hoping for a quieter morning but we're starting off with a big rig accident in the eastbound direction. a live shot of the scene. they have opened up the two left lanes. multiple vehicles involved and injuries reported as well. there is a backup in the eastbound direction and i suspect we could see a backup develop in the westbound direction. here is a backup, it hasn't extended to treasure island. if you're leaving san francisco heading into oakland, you may want to consider the san mateo bridge later and through oakland an earlier crash cleared and lanes blocked for road work until 5:00. matt? >> thanks, frances. president trump heads to friendly territory today to make a pitch for the republican tax plan. we're live in washington with that and the possible government shutdown. summer camp was destroyed in the north bay fires. a determined 12-year-old boy may succeed in bringing it back.

democrats over the loom government shutdown and abc news reporter kenneth motten is live with more details. kenneth. >> reporter: good morning, jessica, on that gop tax reform plan the senate republicans can only lose two votes but so far right now by our count ten have voiced concerns. today president trump is on the move heading to missouri to sell tax reform to the american people. the president on capitol hill yesterday to rally senate republicans. analysts say those earning more than $100,000 a year would likely see big tax cuts but within ten years those earning less than $75,000 a year are estimated to pay more. tax reform a priority but a more immediate deadline funding the government by next friday or face a shutdown. president trump needs to strike a deal with the democrats. but right before his meeting with leaders chuck schumer and nancy pelosi the president tweeted blasting them saying he doesn't see a deal.

>> the president said i don't see a deal three hours before our meeting, before he heard anything we had to say. >> reporter: schumer and pelosi skipped the white house meeting. president trump flanked by two empty chairs. the president says that democrats will be to blame if the government shuts down. reporting live here in washington, kenneth moton, abc 7 news. bay area based auto desk is laying off roughly 13% of its workforce. they create 3d imaging software in san rafael and san francisco. no word on where or when layoffs will occur. setting up the first of several sheds that will provide housing for the homeless in oakland. sky 7 flew above them yesterday. oakland's city council approved the plan last month. homeless advocates say the sheds are a healthier and safer alternative to the tent cities that have popped up across the city. the program will cost the city

about $450,000 a year. a 12-year-old is taking giving tuesday to a whole new level. he has start add go fund me campaign to raise money for his beloved summer camp that was destroyed in the tubbs fire in santa rosa. coming down the stairs -- >> reporter: he first visited camp newman when he was 5 years old. now at 12 the jewish summer camp is one of his favorites places. on october 9th, the tubbs fire destroyed it. >> i was really devastated and i really wanted to do something. >> reporter: he immediately got his laptop out and start this had go fund me page. >> i felt it was a good way to raise awareness about it and to raise some money for rebuilding because i want to go back to camp. >> reporter: it didn't take long before the donations started pouring in, 90% of the campus is

trees have been brought in to transform the hall into a holiday extravaganza. a group of families sponsored one of the trees in honor of those who lost their homes in the fires. each ornament represents a contribution to fire relief efforts. >> i can't imagine how devastating it is to lose everything, your heirlooms, your home, everything important to you. i think the christmas spirit is giving and a lot of families are feeling that now and hopefully we're helping them to feel that. >> so far the families raised more than $10,000 for the fire victims. they hope their tree will inspire even more donations. >> that's really nice. good to see. >> i think a lot of times after something happens like this people forget they are still dealing with the loss of their homes. >> the normalcy and family traditions this time of year, all of that makes a big difference as well. >> it does. mike and frances are here. we're talking about some cool temperatures this morning. >> yeah, absolutely. it's kind of chilly this morning but it's going to be warm during

the afternoon hours. it will be that way through december. can you believe december is only a couple hours away. temperatures in the 60s for highs. and the storm track that will continue moving to the north and keep the rain away from us, and that's how the weekend is trending. you can see it is clear down there this morning. here is a look at the storm track. you can see it's well up to the north. pacific northwest days upon days upon days of wet weather and more flooding on the way. we could use some of that. unfortunately, mother nature is giving them more than they can handle. here is the way it looks from mt. tam this morning. sunny today. slightly warmer than yesterday. and then tonight we'll be seeing stars, a little bit of patchy valley fog. the extended, the weekend is trending drier. what a great day to be outside. a light breeze, total sunshine. 61. that's the cool spot at half moon bay.

san francisco and richmond at 62, the rest of us about 63 to 66 degrees. tonight another chilly one. a few neighborhoods in our inland valleys in the upper 30s. and then low to upper 40s around the bay to 50 at san francisco. let's take a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast, even warmer tomorrow as we say good-bye to november. december starts mild, low to mid-60s. 58 to 64 with more clouds saturday. it looks like the clouds will not give up any rain. cool and breezy for sunday and the temperatures closer to it average monday and tuesday. all right. the bay bridge, we need an update, frances. >> an injury crash with a big rig involved. it's in the eastbound direction on the bay bridge. a live shot and show you what's happening right now. they're opening up the left lanes. in fact, we're hearing from chp they hope to have all lanes reopened shortly. there is a backup for those folks leaving san francisco past treasure island approaching the crash. not a huge delay at this point.

about five to ten minutes. since we're hearing the chp will be reopening all the lanes shortly it looks like you're probably safe to head over to the bay bridge. here is the bay bridge toll plaza, so far it's looking good, it's normal. not much of a delay at this point. watching the story because a las vegas heist worthy of a hollywood movie, police right now on the hunt for a man who robbed a poker cage at the bellagio and surveillance shows him wearing a wig and glasses. he was armed with a handgun. also, get this, actor james woods was playing poker just 30 feet away. he tweet that had casino staff handed the money quietly and did nothing that would endanger customers. the robber got away in a vehicle. they are following some leads. i'm watching this story to see if we get any developments. right now that robber is still on the loose this morning.

>> traffic was blocked in san francisco. a large hole in the middle of harrison and second streets. it took crews about 12 hours to fix this. the pipeline dates back to the '30s. a conservative commentator faces charges after protesters disrupted an appearance. a speech titled it's okay to be white last night. protesters interrupted him. they say he grabbed a protester by the neck. he caused controversy in february when the trump administration credentialed him to attend white house briefings. call this mission possible for two real-life super men. this video taken by red bull. b.a.s.e. jumping off a 14,000-foot mountain in the swiss alps but it gets better.
