crash in my next report. "today" show anchor matt lauer has been fired amid allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior. a tweet from the company. the network made the announcement after a colleague complained monday night about inappropriate sexual behavior in the work place. nbc says it was the first lodged complaint against lauer but added they were presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident. here is what a "new york times" columnist had to say on "good morning america" only moments ago. >> there have been these rumors going around for some time, reporters started chasing them and clearly it got the attention, as it should have, and i think there will be questions now in all of our -- throughout the industry and other industries how quickly should these allegations been looked into in the first place but the move was swift and let there be no doubt this is a

seismic moment in our culture. >> lauer's former "today" show colleague savannah guthrie made the announcement at the top of the show calling it, quote, a sad morning. but then added she felt heartbroken for the woman who accused lauer, and lauer had been part of the nbc news organization for more than 20 years. his dismissal comes a week after cbs fired morning show host charlie rose over allegations as well. matt? >> if you are using apple's new operating system your computer may be at risk of hacked. >> a password flaw allows anyone to break into your computer by typing one simple word. janin de la vega joins us live with the details. >> reporter: this news took a lot of apple users by surprise. apple is working on a fix for

the problem. now if you are running the latest version of high sierra a stranger could log in and gain access by typing in root. it was unveiled in september and came preinstalled on a handful of computer models. it gives them access to a lot of personal information. >> can do anything and everything. you can delete it to the users account, access his bank, his e-mail, his twitter, facebook, anythi anything. >> apple released a statement that reads in part, quote, we are working on a software update to address the issue. setting a root password prevents unauthorized use. while apple did not release a time line, one is expected soon.

experts say mac users should not leave their computers unattended and for more information you can go to our website at abc7news.com, and you'll find the information on our home page. thank you. an update on our breaking news from yesterday morning. san jose police say they've made an arrest after someone riddled a middle school with bullets. that's buckshot holes there. someone shot up the school early with a shotgun a. security camera captured an image. campus was hit with the same type of vandalism. security has been increased at the school. detectives in san mateo county say a wife's suspicions led to her husband's arrest on child porn charges. looking at resident matthew coda. sheriff's deputies arrested him when he stepped off a flight at san francisco international airport. his wife first contacted deputies in september.

>> she's a hero in this. >> coda remains in the jail on $200,000 bail. detectives believe he downloaded images from the internet and did not take any of the 3,000 images deputies found on his computer. >> happening today the u.n. security council will hold an emergency meeting following north korea's latest missile test. u.n. ambassador nikki haley will take part along with japan and south korea leaders today. yesterday's intercontinental ballistic missile test reached the highest altitude ever recorded by a north korean missile. they say that puts the entire u.s. in range. president trump spoke shortly after with south korea's president to discuss the country's response. >> we will take care of it. it is a situation we will handle . >> south korea's military

conducted its own drills minutes after the launch was detected. with companies that have had a hand in building president trump's border wall. the city prohibited any new or amended contracts. oakland is the first city to adopt this formal ban. berkeley passed a resolution earlier in the year. the lights of richmond are too bright as far as the mayor is concerned. elissa harrington has the story. >> reporter: you've probably heard of noise pollution but light pollution? >> they're not annoyances. they're things that can have a physical affect on you and sometimes serious. >> reporter: the mayor says there are too many artificial lights in the city from street signs and outside businesses that are way too bright. they're mostly the newer l.e.d. fixtures like these lights at a hotel and these ones at a gas company across the street.

>> it looks like the ones immigration had there on the water to stop the people. >> reporter: there's a cluster of lights at the rail yard that are not covered. >> they put so much light up in my yard i can read a book at night on a moonless night and it's gotten a lot worse the last few months. >> reporter: the mayor made a post and says the light pollution is causing some residents to lose sleep. i'm about half a mile away from the lights at point richmond. as you can see they stand out among the rest. those lights can still make you squint all the way up here. the mayor says this sort of thing can really take its toll on people. he says city code already requires some sort of shielding and it's about time to enforce it. in richmond, elissa harrington, abc 7 news. let's take a look at this. did you see it last night? a lot of our viewers did and, of course, they thought of us.

exercising. here's a look at the east bay valleys. 47 at 8:00. already 62 at noon. we'll hang out through 4:00. back in the 50s by 6:00. then we'll head over to the east bay itself, 47 at 8:00. look at that, near 60 at noon and we'll hang there through 4:00 back in the mid-50s during the evening hours. one last stop on the peninsula, 48 this morning up to 59 at noon and then we have temperatures in the 60s at 2:00 and 4:00, back into the 50s at 6:00 and 8:00. so most of us taking that same bell curve today. here is a quick look at the next three days which takes us right up to the weekend. temperatures don't change much but they will for saturday and sunday. i'll see you in a second. frances? a cash in vallejo and this is starting to slow traffic down. we'll show you that with the map on westbound 37 on the connector to highway 29. we are picking up a few brake lights. it looks like a lane could be blocked and traffic slow westbound 37 approaching highway 29. the bay bridge, that eastbound

hi, everyone. i'm still watching for updates on that missing toddler in north carolina, the 3-year-old vanished from her home over the weekend. police think she was abducted. look at these new pictures released overnight. they possibly have a suspect here. these are new surveillance images of a little girl and you can see what appears to be a middle-aged woman with the child. these were taken inside of a walmart, and they were spotted in moorhead city about 40 miles east of jacksonville, north carolina, from where that little girl was taken. and right now federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies are all searching for this little girl and hoping to get her home safe. i'll be watching for updates this morning. back to you. >> jessica, thank you. pet owners in san jose are on edge after learning two cats

were shot at with arrows. neighbors in the willow glenn neighborhood say one cat is recovering from surgery after being hit in the stomach. >> are you prepared to do the time for the crime? it's not a small thing to attack people's animals and endanger human lives. >> the other incident took place in october and that cat also survived. sources tell abc 7 news the arrows used appear to be similar. police are asking anyone with information about either attack to please contact them. the oakland city council held a moment of silence in honor of the 36 people who died in the ghost ship warehouse fire. saturday marks one year since the fire sparked during the concert. this memorial is currently on display at city hall and will be through saturday. it's an extension of a larger piece that can be seen at the oakland museum of california for the next few months. several vigils and memorials will be held to mark the anniversary. roy moore has new competition. lee busby, a former aid to the

current chief of staff launched a write-in campaign. he says he doesn't believe they are being properly represented by moore or doug jones. he is running as an independent even though he's republican and says that he wasn't a supporter of moore even before the recent sexual harassment allegations surfaced. dhl plans to order ten tesla semis. they will be used for same-day deliveries in major u.s. cities. walmart has said they will give the new trucks a try. they can run 500 miles off a single charge. the uc davis school of veterinary medicine is conducting a first of its kind survey. >> this woman uses cbd oil on her pub not just for his anxiety but to help with his pain. cbd oil is extracted from the hemp plant. >> we've noticed he doesn't hop and skip as much. he has an easier time taking long walks, too. >> unfortunately, we don't have

nothing as far as wet weather that will probably change but that's just what we're looking at right now. 61 at the coast to 66 down in santa cruz. look at the wave heights, 10 to 15 feet coming at us. more than 20 up north because of this storm and that's why we have the beach hazard statement for today so be careful if you're going to the beach. temperatures tonight mainly in the 40s until you get to san francisco at 50. let's talk more about the accuweather seven-day forecast where temperatures will be almost near 70 in some neighborhoods tomorrow. thanks to the increase in high clouds so december starts mild and cooler with the extra cloud cover but no chance of rain. frances? all right. it's going to be better soon. here's a map of the crash in vallejo. now westbound 37 approaching highway 29 an accident blocked the left lane of the connector ramp but it looks like it's going to clear very quickly and even though there's a backup

right now it should be gone by the time you get there but we so traffic develop in certain areas like emeryville, westbound 80 for headlights here so the drive time is not too bad. westbound 80 from highway 4 to the maze is 18 minutes and there's some sluggish traffic on westbound 4 as well. antioch to hercules, 34 minutes right now. in the south bay no major problems. northbound highway 87 from highway 85 to the san jose airport, that is a seven-minute trip. there's a spider on our bay bridge toll plaza camera and the metering lights have been turned on according to theer you can see the traffic is backing up now past the 880 overcrossing and luckily an earlier big rig accident in the eastbound direction has been cleared so traffic is flowing well eastbound and other bay area bridges look great. >> we should name him, we see him so often, frances. for nearly two decades a family in connecticut has staged a massive christmas display but

>> and good morning, everybody, welcome to "today." hoda is here with me this morning because this is a sad morning here at "today" and at nbc news. just moments ago nbc news chairman sent the following note to our organization. dear colleagues, on monday night we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the work place by matt lauer. it represented after serious review a clear violation of our company's standards. as a result we have decided to terminate his employment. >> and here's the tweet announcing lauer's termination. while it is the first complaint about lauer's buy haf yehavior than 20 years, nbc says it was presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident. this morning guthrie, his co-anchor, it's it's hard to reconcile the person who walks in every day with person identified in the complaint.

and i'll be -- >> jessica, we appreciate it. a gunman started shooting from a high-rise luxury condo in downtown reno. the gunman was barricaded on the eighth floor of the complex on north sierra street and that's when he started shooting at the street below. officers shot the suspect and died on the way to the hospital. the only other injury reported is a hand injury. it is not clear who that person is. the hostage is now safe with no injuries. police think the suspect and hostage had a domestic relationship. this morning chp is investigating a high-speed chase that ended with the suspect's car crashing. >> they say officers tried to stop the car just after 10:00 p.m. after receiving reports of a group of cars getting ready to race. the female driver took off, though, and the pursuit began. officers say the driver tried to exit solano way going 100 miles an hour, lost control and crashed. the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. officials say she will be booked into jail when she is released. two passengers also have minor

injuries. to an overnight fire in the east bay. it broke out in san leandro near joaquin avenue shortly before midnight. the alameda fire department posted these on its instagram page showing crews putting out the fire. a woman was treated for smoke inhalation. she was not taken to the hospital. no one else was hurt. the san francisco board of supervisors approved regulations for the sale of marijuana once it becomes legal inc california in january. a 600-foot buffer zone between stores and schools. some were asking for a larger barrier. the board rejected provision that is would have allowed neighborhoods to limit the number of pot shops or ban them outright. the jury in the kate steinle murder trial is entering a fifth day of deciding the fate of jose ines garcia zarate. it's a case that's garnered national attention. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at the san francisco hall of justice. amy? >> reporter: hi, matt. yeah, they've been deliberating

since last week, some say this is starting to feel like it's taking a while but it isn't unusual. a prosecutor in alameda pointed out murder trial deliberations can last for weeks. jose ines garcia zarate is accused of murder, but he insists that he accidentally shot and killed a woman in san francisco, that the gun he was holding just went off. kate steinle was walking at pier 14 with her father two years ago when she was shot and killed. the jury got the case last tuesday afternoon. since then the jury has had some questions for the attorneys which one prosecutor tells us could be addressing a number of issues. >> they may ask for he have. they may ask for readback of testimony, of one or more witnesses. and sometimes they ask other kinds of questions relating to how they should deliberate or maybe they want clarification on some of the instructions they

accounts were exposed. oakland mayor libby schaaf says police won't cooperate with i.c.e. agents in the future. immigration activists blasted oakland police for assists with traffic control during a raid in august. federal agents detained two men. oakland's police chief claims i.c.e. told her it was a criminal raid targeting human trafficking suspects. >> but no criminal charges have been brought, only deportation charges have been brought. this does compromise our ability to trust this agency. >> oakland police have said that they wouldn't have provided help if they knew it was a deportation action because of oakland's sanctuary city status. today president trump will take his push for tax reform on the road. the president is traveling to the midwest to make his pitch to the american people but meanwhile in washington trump is facing another battle with democrats over the looming

government shutdown. abc 7 news reporter kenneth moten has more details. kenneth? >> reporter: new numbers in. senate republicans can only lose two votes in their efforts to pass that gop tax reform bill. right now at least ten have voiced concerns over the plan. today president trump is on the move heading to missouri to sell tax reform to the american people. the president to rally senate republicans. analysts say those earning more than $100 a year would likely see big tax cuts but within ten years most americans earning less than $75,000 a year estimated to pay more. tax reform a priority but a more immediate deadline funding the government by next friday or face a shutdown. president trump needs to strike a deal with the democrats but right before his meeting with leaders chuck schumer and nancy pelosi the president tweeted, blasting them saying he doesn't see a deal. >> the president said i don't

see a deal three hours before our meeting before he heard anything we had to say. >> reporter: schumer and pelosi skipped the white house meeting. we have learned sticking points between the president and democrats, legal status for dreamers, defense spending, and funding for the president's border wall. let's talk more about that fog. it's not nearly as widespread and it's not nearly as thick this morning. that's going to be the trend the next couple of mornings. a half mile in napa and two miles in santa rosa. it will also fade quicker today than it did yesterday. 40 in menlo park, the cool spot. 48 in belmont. only warmer in pacifica at about 49 degrees. we've got mid-40s everywhere along the east bay shore and all the way down into san jose. 39 right now in san ramone.

breaking news out of tampa where police say they have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection to a string of recent homicides. they say they arrested him yesterday after a tip he had a gun at a mcdonald's. his name is howell donaldson and he has now been charged with four counts of first-degree murder.

and you may remember that police have been on a man hunt for a possible serial killer for nearly two months. that's why this is such a big deal. four people have been killed in the area near tampa since october 9th. natasha, back to you. the chairman of the fcc is hitting back at critics who say that repealing that neutrality would lead to authoritarianism. ajit pai criticized t t neutrality rules. pai says the repeal would bring back regulation free policy that helped the internet thrive. it prevents an internet service provider from charging more to access certain websites. critics say repealing it would allow provideers to favor their own content over others. crews are setting up their first of several sheds that will provide homeless homes. oakland city council approved the plan last month.

they say the sheds are a healthier and safeless alternative to the tent cities. the program will cost the city about $450,000 a year. a special tribute to the north bay fire victims is on display at the san francisco symphony. dozens of 18-foot-tall christmas trees brought in to transform into a holiday extravaganza. a group of families has sponsored one of the trees in honor to those who lost their homes in the fire. >> i can't imagine how devastating it is to lose everything, your heirlooms, your home, anything that's important to you. i think the christmas spirit is of giving and a lot of families are feeling that now and hopefully we're helping them feel that. >> so far they raised more than $10,000 for the fire victims. they hope their trees will inspire even more donations. fans can help when a second band together concert takes

water is flowing again this morning through a repaired pipeline that blocked traffic in san francisco's sulma district.

a large hole at harrison and 2nd streets. the water main flooded the basement of a nearby building. it took about 12 hours to fix it. the pipeline dates back to the '30s. they think it was the age that caused the rupture. call it mission possible for two real-life super men. this video taken by red bulluck see fred and vince b.a.s.e. jumping off a 14,000-foot mountain in the swiss alps. it's what they did next that is stunning. they soared towards the ground and one of them jumps into the plane, floats in, and then the other one does it in the opening that's 5x4 feet. they practiced more than 100 times before attempting this incredible stunt. >> crazy. >> i'm trying to see if there's a propeller on the front of the plane. >> nope. no, sir. thank you very much. all right. are you looking to put a little stake on any ugly sweater?
