live where you live. this is abc 7 news. two media giants fired. nbc news anchor matt lauer and garrison keeler are accused of inappropriate behavior in the workplace. thanks for joining us. i'm matt keller. kristen zi will be in later today. that news emerging within the last hour not long after that bomb shell announcement about matt lauer on the "today" show. the co-anchor savannah guthrie delivered the news on air this morning. nbc said they fired the lead anchor after receiving a complaint about inappropriate sexual behavior from a colleague. abc's maggie ruly is in new york with more on this developing

story. >> reporter: good morning. breaking news overnight. matt lauer has been terminated from nbc news. matt lauer's "today" show co-anchor savannah guthrie breaking the news live on-air. >> our chairman said a colleague had come forward reporting behavior in violation of our company's standards. >> reporter: according to an nbc spokesperson, lauer's accuser is accusing inappropriate sexual behavior throughout 2014. >> how do you reconcile your love for someone with the revelation that they have behaved badically. >> reporter: a mainstay of the "today" show for nearly a quarter of a century. lauer's abrupt departure leaves colleagues in shock. >> i've known matt for 15 years and i've loved him as a friend, as a colleague -- >> still dealing with the news of a friend of 30 years and we're all trying to process it. >> reporter: president trump was quick to tweet about matt lauer's firing, he's facing allegations of his own. at least 16 women have accused the president of sexual misconduct. the president has denied the

staff. new morning, san mateo county deputies say they've arrested a man accused of inappropriately touching children at an afterschool care program. 19-year-old hongtran was sheriff's office began investigating him in september after a six-year-old girl said he touched her during the investigation, another victim, seven-year-old girl came forward. tran was arrested yesterday in redwood city. he's been fired from the school district. new developments, san jose police release details on the suspect arrested for shooting at a willow glen elementary school. this is the booking photo for 21-year-old nicholas o'connor. officers arrested him last night at his san jose home. a reporter is live at headquarters with the latest. >> reporter: matt, police tell us the suspect is a 21-year-old man who has no criminal background. they are still looking into what the motive is and why he targeted that school. police took nicholas o'connor

into custody at 8:00 last night. he was the man seen on surveillance video shooting out cameras at bookson health department ri tuesday morning. officers searched the neighborhood and found a shotgun in the background. they reviewed the security video and even though wearing a mask, investigators are confident they have the right man. >> i know they want to know what he was doing there, why he brought a shotgun on to school campus after hours. so those are all things that our investigators are looking into. >> reporter: the campus was hit with the same type of vandalism on veteran's day weekend. detectives believe the shootings are related but are still investigating. pressure wass mounting against the police department. parents were worried. this morning, they're relieved to hear about the arrest. >> we were happy to hear about the arrest. we were concerned about leaving the kids to school today. we left them at home yesterday. but this morning, made it easy to get them up and going and to help appease their fears. >> it's the worst thing that could happen to a school. whether it's in the middle of the night or during the daytime, obviously. so who knows what the motive was

to shoot the cameras, would he come back and start, you know, going after kids? >> reporter: o'connor faces felony charges of discharging a firearm and vandalism. the san jose unified school district tells us that o'connor graduated from willow glen high school in 2015. the district is still looking over their records to see if he was also a former student of bookson elementary. reporting live from san jose, abc 7 news. >> thank you. happening now the jury deciding the fate of the man accused of killing kate steinle is behind closed doors with no indication if a verdict is coming soon. amy hollyfield is live at the san francisco hall of justice with more, amy. >> reporter: hi, matt. yeah, we are still waiting. the jury is behind closed doors. got settled in about 9:30 this morning, we haven't received any word that they've reached a verdict. the judge said we will get 30 minutes notice before that verdict is read. if it feels like to you that maybe this is taking a while, this actually is not unusual.

we checked in with a prosecutor across the bay over in alameda county, he pointed out, some murder deliberations go for weeks. so, nothing unusual about this length of time at this point. these jurors are deciding whether jose inez zarate is guilty of murder or if accidentally shot and killed a woman as he claims. his defense teams says he accidentally went off. prosecutors believe he aimed it and intentionally fired it. the bullet hit kate steinle in the back. this was two years ago in july 2015 at pier 14 in san francisco. where he was walking with her father. the gun was found in the bay after the shooting. the prosecutors believe that ditching the gun in the water shows intent. this jury has expert testimony to weigh one expert believes the shot looked intentional, another thinks it looks like an accident. jurors have several options to weigh, first or second degree murder or voluntary manslaughter, or, of course, a

harassment. and she is the deputy leader of the extreme right wing group, britain first. the small group staging anti-muslim protests and posts videos like these, unverified and without context. and now, president donald trump has retweeted her videos to his 43.6 million twitter followers, not once, but three times. the videos weren't posted sequentially meaning that the president likely scrolled through her timeline to pick them out. the press secretary sarah sanders defended trump. >> whether it's a real video, the threat is real, and that is what the president is talking about. that's what the president is focussed on is dealing with those real threats. and those are real no matter how you look at it. >> reporter: for her part, she thanked the president, tweeting, god bless you, trump, and god bless america. >> our top stories for you, the anti-muslim videos -- >> reporter: and the reaction in the uk was immediate. >> he is normalizing hatred. >> reporter: last year after the murder of member of parliament

joe cox, she was killed by a right wing extremist shouting britain first. they called for the group to be designated a terrorist organization. and now, british prime minister theresa may has said it is wrong for the president to have done this. there is a lot of anger here about these tweets and already calls to cancel a future trump state visit. molly hunter, abc news, london. new morning, firefighters in the east bay are investigating a duplex fire in san leandro. broke out on san rafael street near joaquin avenue. the fire department posted these on instagram. they shows crews putting out the fire. officials say a woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. she was not taken to the hospital. no one else was hurt. san francisco board of supervisors approved regulations for the sale of marijuana once it becomes legal in california in january. the supervisors voted for a 600-foot buffer zone between stores and schools yesterday. some members of the city's chinese immigrant community were asking for a much larger

california woman breastfeeding publicly has gone viral sparking both supportive and negative reactions. jessica castro has the story. >> reporter: hi matt and this is the photo that's gone viral. britany posted on facebook, she actually posted it to this specific facebook page dedicated to breastfeeding moms. it's called breastfeeding momma talk and in her post she says she was standing in line at disneyland to take a picture when her ten month old baby got hungry, she took off her top and decided to nurse him. and in the photo there, you can see two angry women in the background, one of them crossing her arms.

and she captioned the picture saying, well, these ladies were so angry by it, my husband just had to take a picture, and then peep the haters. the post instantly went viral and has been shared now thousands of times. medina is grateful for the support she's received online. she says most of the comments have been positive, although there have been a lot of negative ones too. i should note, in california, mothers are legally allowed to breastfeed in public. matt. >> all right, thank you, jessica. apple released a security update after a password flaw was revealed that could allow access to the computer. the glitch is on mac computers with the high sierra operating system. apple unveiled it in september and came preinstalled on a handful of computer models. bug enables a hacker to download malicious software and gives them access to personal information. >> can do anything and everything. you can delete that legitimate
