a cool morning for your thursday, november 30th. mike tells us we're going to warm up a little bit. >> yeah. temperatures near 70 today in some neighborhoods for the warmest spots. still a little bit of fog. that cool weather to talk about this morning. it's very dangerous. more dangerous than what we're dealing with in petaluma in places like lakeville, magnolia avenue, 101 heading through there, 116 heading in and out from the east to west. western avenue, and it goes all the way down to about novato about half a mile and even some in the central valley. watch out for that. as far as your 12-hour accuweather planner, let's take a look. and you have 38 to nearly 50 at the coast. much warm they are morning. how about 58 to 62 with high clouds and sunshine. the same passing high cloud or two. make sure you have the sunglasses today and a delightful evening at 7:00. 52 to 54 degrees.

frances, what are you following this morning? mike, we have a couple new accidents that just happened in the last few minutes. an overturn in san jose. i'll show that you in a bit as well. there's one in the bay point area westbound 4 at bailey. a big rig involved blocking the number three lane and traffic has been slow making your way out of pittsburg and antioch. 24 miles an hour connecting on to 242. and then the overturn crash in san jose i think will cause a big slowdown northbound 101 so heads-up there if you're planning to drive through the area. consider highway 87. normal slow and go traffic westbound 580 tracy to castro valley which is over an hour. 1:02, to be exact. if you're planning on traveling for holidays, a big heads-up if you're flying american airlines. >> big concerns about a pilot shortage during crucial weeks, talking christmas and new year's avenue. matt keller live for us at san

jose mineta airport. good morning, matt. >> reporter: everything is running smoothly here at the san jose airport, but the christmas travel season could be a mess. blame it on the computer. the pilots union says american airlines scheduling system gave too many pilots time off. 15,000 flights from december 17th to the end of the year were scheduled without a captain, a co-pilot or both. the airline says it expects to avoid canceling flights by paying time and a half and using reserve pilots. one passenger we spoke with is going to las vegas a week before christmas and doesn't want this issue to stop her fun. >> pay the pilots so we'll be safe. >> reporter: and get to you vegas? >> get me to vegas to enjoy my birthday. >> reporter: even with the offer of the extra pay the pilots union is urging members not to take on these flights as it could violate their contracts. they're hoping the airline comes

to them to work out a deal. passengers, though, are keeping an eye on this. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. breaking news, a fifth woman is coming forward accusing minnesota senator al franken of inappropriate sexual behavior. i do want to show you that picture on cnn.com. this is the woman coming forward here. she is an army veteran. kemplin claims he groped her in 2003 when she was deployed in kuwait and that he cupped her breast during a photo-op. she is the fifth woman in two weeks to accuse the minnesota democrat of inappropriate touching and the second to allege the behavior happened while he was a comedian on a uso tour. franken has apologized for some of these claims but has said he will not step down. so far this morning no word on

the newest allegation. a vote could come today on the tax bill but likely not until tomorrow. all democrats against the plan say it will raise taxes for the poor and give big tax cuts to the wealthy. several republicans have not committed but it looks like they may have the numbers to get the bill passed. president trump says the plan will benefit middle class families. he's back at the white house after trying to rally support in missouri. many students are against the gop tax plan. they say it will keep them from writing off student loan interest and put graduate education out of reach. students marched out of classrooms all across america yesterday this is video from usc and some uc davis students also walked out. albany's city manager retiring because of the high expenses and heavy traffic in the bay area. "the east bay times" reports penelope crumpley last day. she has served as city manager for the past four. she and her husband plan to move to the sierra foothills.

an 11-year-old getaway driver is among 11 arrested after a violent crime spree. at least one person got away. it started with a carjacking at communications hill on friday. san jose detectives say that was followed by seven armed robberies. four carjackings, four car thefts and two residential burglaries. ultimately police arrested 11 juvenile suspects after three separate high-speed chases. the drivers were 11, 14, and 17 years old. lieutenant paul yoe self says kids on violent crime sprees is becoming a trend. >> it is quite alarming and we've been successful in arresting many of them. as soon as we arrest them another group pops up the following weekend. >> detectives believe there could be more victims from over the weekend. if you have any information you are asked to call police. new details on the future of marijuana sales in sausalito. the city council approved a 45-day emergency ordinance to stop all commercial activities starting january 1st when pot sales become legal across

california. according to our media partner they will revisit the issue in mid-january to either extend this law or enact more permanent zoning rules. if the city had not taken action the state could have issued licenses for commerial marijuana businesses in sausalito without local input. the climate summit is under way and governor jerry brown helped kick things off in san francisco. he says california is currently using nearly 50% renewable energy and 100% by 2040 is not out of the question. >> california's actively pursuing an energy policy that we can sustain in the face of federal opposition. >> governor brown wants a plan to reduce kindling and the wildfire threat across the state. happening today the oakland alameda county coliseum board holding a special meeting to discuss the future transformation of the oracle arena. the board is scheduled to talk

warhead that could reach the u.s. mainland, but this latest test certainly a concern this morning, reggie. >> thank you, jessica. when it comes to millennials a lot of stories about young people being less likely to move out of their parents home than in previous generations. but what about the millennials who do move? this is interesting. a new survey shows oakland is a popular landing spot. more than 8,700 millennials moved to oaklan in 2015. most of them relocated from another county. person finance company crunched the numbers and found about 4,800 young people moved to san francisco during the same time period but a big difference with those people. a majority of them came from out of state. an annual christmas tree lighting raised $165,000 for victims of the northern california fires. >> roberto gonzalez productions shared this video of the 555 california street tree lightig celebration. this is the 11th year former

it is jamming things up on north 101. traffic is crawling at around 15 miles an hour. i have a couple more problems to tell but in my next report. from our live desk this morning matt lauer is now responding to the allegations that cost him his job at nbc. he released a statement early this morning saying, in part, quote, there are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain i have caused others by words and actions. to the people i have hurt, i am truly sorry. he also said, quote, some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. meantime nbc brass has doubled down on its claim it was never made aware of any complaints about lauer's conduct prior to this week.

who walks in and out of a courtroom is scrutinized to figure out where the jury could be leaning in their decision making progress. amy hollyfield is live for us in san francisco. good morning, amy. >> reporter: hi, good morning, natasha. still no sign of a verdict. jurors are trying to decide the fate of jose ines garcia zarate, a 45-year-old homeless, undocumented immigrant. they can convict him of first or second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, or, of course, they can find him not guilty. another option is a hung jury that a legal expert we consulted with said would be unusual. >> a judge will generally try to assist the jury in reaching a verdict and there are instructions judge will give a jury if it indicates it is unable to reach a verdict. >> reporter: zarate is accused of killing kate steinle. she was walking with her father when she was shot in the back and killed.

doing. san francisco police tweeted this just before midnight last night thanking everyone who came out to support officer elia lewin-tankel who was critically injured in the line of duty. tenderloin based officers helped plan the fund-raiser at the bill graham civic auditorium. officer lewin-tankel was on patrol when he was hit by a suspect's car on october 18th. he has traumatic brain injury. abc 7 news was also at last night's fund-raiser and we spoke with those who came out to support him and his wife. >> the amount of support from the community is we couldn't ask for more. >> families, friends, and strangers have all lifted us towards the light and away from darkness. for that and so much more we are grateful. thank you. >> for more on how you can help go to the website abc7news.com. and happening today one of the two men who escaped from a palo alto courthouse will be arraigned. federal marshalings tracked john givins bivins to a hotel.

he's been on the run since november 6th. bivins escaped police in stockton last week speeding past officers on a dead end street and caught the second fugitive at a walmart. they face federal charges in addition to the armed robbery that he was already in jail for. >> 11 people have to find another place to live after fire raced through two mission district buildings in san francisco. those flames broke out at a home near 24th street just before 7:00 last night. the fire spread next door in no time. it took firefighters more than an hour to bring those flames under control. the cause of the fire still under investigation. family and friends have launched a go fund me page for a family that lost their home not too far from the mission district. the blast damaged their apartment. investigators say a gas leak is to blame. pg&e says it remains under investigation. the goodoys are coming to terms with what happened. >> it's scary because a lot of

people there. my house was very bad. >> the family is now staying at a hotel room. they'll have that through the red cross at least through monday. we do have a link to the go fund me page on our website abc7news.com. hey, guys, this morning we finally know more about the twitter worker who temporarily shut down president trump's account, and he says it was all an accident. he's a 20-something german who work in san francisco with a team that reviews alerts for inappropriate behavior. here he is doing an interview. his name is duysak. in an interview with tech crunch he said on november 2nd, his last day, an alert came in about the president's account and duysak started the process of deactivating the account, closed his computer, and then left the building. he says he didn't expect the process to be completed.

pushing for free tuition for all public colleges and universities. it is happening at 5:00 p.m. at city college of san francisco and that is where tuition is already free-for-all san francisco residents regardless of income. the school was the first in the nation to do so. now there is a movement to offer free college education to every person in california called the college for all act. supporters are trying to gather enough signatures to get the initiative on the ballot. a warning if you use the park and ride in mill valley. caltrans is shutting it down for a week. high tides are expected for the next several days and that lot floods very easily during king tides. you're looking at video from january. let's put some numbers and time frame to that, exactly when it will happen. right down to the park and ride there in mill valley. you can see that area always floods during the king tides. so when will they hit saturday,

>> reporter: we take a look at the big board and everything on time including all those american airlines flights. but come christmas you may want to have a backup plan. the pilot's union says 15,000 american airlines flights from december 17th to the end of the year scheduled without a captain, a co-pilot, the airline expects to avoid canceling flights by paying time and a half and using reserve pilots. passengers are keeping an eye on what's happening. >> it's between the holiday season so everyone is traveling and not being able to get where you need to go is never a fun thing. >> reporter: the pilot's union filed a grievance saying the time and a half pay offered by american was not covered by its contract and the airline could not guarantee payment. they want american airlines to sit down and talk to them about the issue. reporting live, matt keller, abc 7 news. matt, thank you. san francisco parking meters could soon cost as much as $18 an hour.

as part of a proposed change to a municipal transportation program that adjusts meter rates based on demand. right now that on demand pricing is being used on 7,000 meters that could soon expand to every meter in the city. most meters would top out at $8 an hour. for special events meters could go up to $18 per hour. new this morning a big announcement in the nfl. they have agreed to commit $89 million over the next seven years to social justice causes considered important to african-american communities and our sister network, espn, reports the league office will contribute to criminal justice reform, law enforcement relations, and education. the nfl hopes it will end the by former 49ers quarterback ed - colin kaepernick when he refused to stand for the national

valleys like napa and san ramone valley. 41 to 45, maybe even 46 elsewhere. the closer to san mateo we have temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. let's talk about what will happen with my accuweather seven-day forecast. a slight chance of some fog tonight but the high clouds will keep a lot of that from becoming widespread. look at the temperatures tomorrow. we're still warmer than average, low to mid-60s. now saturday with the cold front closer, the slight chance of a shower or two. temperatures back to average, 58 to 62. we'll be in the 50s and 60s starting saturday all the way through next week. a little breezy sunday but then much calmer. tons of sunshine for monday, tuesday and wednesday. hi, frances. hi, mike. a few spots that are slower than normal because of a few earlier accidents. so we'll head to this one in san jose approaching the capital expressway because of an earlier overturn accident. you can see it's just jammed in that area. so northbound 101 from highway 85 to the san jose airport is 35

minutes. normal slowing on the top bar, yellow. westbound 580 tracy to castro valley. sluggish as well westbound 4. brake lights as you make your way westbound through bay point because of an earlier accident that had been cleared. southbound 880 could be heavier than usual. it's slow from 238 down to highway 92 and two earlier accidents along that stretch. if you want to avoid all that consider mass transit, bart bar, ace and caltrain. northbound 101 in san jose is looking a little bit better this 880 interchange. it's slow to the capital expressway. the ride continues to be slow on 92 as you make your way across the san mateo bridge. new relief for millions who suffer from migraines. four long acting drugs are being tested or under fda review. a substance involved in nerve signals that cause migraines. they will be given as shots
