good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this stund, december 3rd. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning to you, hi, carolyn. not much evidence of any rain, but we did have a tenth of an inch while you were sleeping. a system is exiting the sierra nevada after depositing four inches of snow at heavenly. still chains needed there at 2700 feet. high tide at 10:23 this morning at 6.9 feet. it's going to get higher than that into tuesday. the winds will kick up on the coast. elevations later today. 52? san diego, 50 by the delta. your forecast today calls for a cool morning, in the 50s by

noontime. plenty of sunshine this afternoon, but we'll be just around or below average. we'll talk about the winds in the hills, the frost in the valleys and whether or not we see any rain coming our way for the week ahead in a few minutes. carolyn? >> thank you, lisa. developing news out of san leandro. at least one person is dead after a crash on intersate 880 near davis street. now the chp is investigating what led to that accident. officials say a white dodge charger struck a pole just before 3:00 this morning. another deadly crash, this one in sonoma county. the chp saying a vehicle hit a pedestrian on highway 12 near warm springs road around midnight. so far the driver has not been caught. officers say they found broken glass and windshield wipers on the road. so the suspect's vehicle may have windshield damage, and they're asking anyone with information to call the chp.

this morning, an east bay family deals with the unthinkable after that horrific accident yesterday morning at the bay bridge toll plaza. c.c. hahn worked as a toll booth collector for a decade. just minutes after she started her shift yesterday morning, a suspected drunk driver crashed into her booth. the state capitol has lowered its flags to half staff in her honor. abc 7 news reporter spoke to the victim's family and friends. >> she was a very kind and generous woman. >> reporter: c.c. hahn was loved by so many. here she is with the two loves of heifer life, her husband and their 10-year-old daughter. i spoke with a close relative who didn't want to be identified. she shared these photos and her fears for the family. >> he's devastated, and the daughter -- he's going to have a difficult time. >> reporter: hahn stepped into booth 14 just 10 minutes before police say daniel burke sped

through the toll plaza in a box truck. cars were backed up in the lane, waiting to pay. >> hit that very last car in line and then kind of caused a chain reaction. that's how all five vehicles were damaged. and then just continued and struck the booth. >> reporter: the booth with hahn inside was thrown several feet. burke, who was ejected from his smashed truck, was seriously hurt. he's charged with dui and vehicular manslaughter. flags at the toll plaza are at half staff, and hahn's long-time coworkers and friends are in shock. >> we loved her here. she always asked about the family and i asked her about her daughter and her husband and her mother. so, yeah, it's going to be -- it's hard right now. >> reporter: hahn moved to the u.s. from burma when she married her husband 15 years ago. she started working for caltrans as a toll worker a decade ago soon after giving birth to her

daughter. >> i've known her forever, so it's hard. >> reporter: in san francisco, abc 7 news. we want to get a live look now at the toll plaza from our bay bridge toll plaza camera. smooth going today, no problems at all. you know the traffic was really jammed up yesterday. sky 7 was up over the toll plaza. the lane closures just created a mess. the sea of cars yesterday stretched from the approach all the way through the m m m maze and continued east shore freeway. caltrans is telling abc 7 news it has a lot of work to do. >> the toth booll booth was comy damaged. the other toll booths were damaged but we expect to have them fixed by monday morning. >> reporter: they do not expect

hahn's toll booth to be completed by tomorrow morning's commute. you can enable push alerts from the bay abc 7 news app for instant notifications. it's been one year since a fire at an oakland warehouse known as the ghost ship killed 36 people. it is the deadliest fire in the city's history. last night the community came together to honor the victims. abc 7 news reporter lonnie rivera has more on the emotional remembrance. >> reporter: a year has gone by, but the heartache for so many still feels fresh. community members read the names of the 36 victims who died in the ghost ship warehouse fire. mary vega wears her son alex's photo near her heart. he and his girlfriend were among the victims. >> it's very hard. >> reporter: 22-year-old alex vega and his girlfriend, 20-year-old michaela gregory,

were in love. they had been coming to the warehouse for five years. >> they had new shirts just for this concert, and she started dancing in my hallway. >> reporter: this visit was a big step for vega. it's her first time at the site. >> it was so hard, just the idea. >> reporter: earlier in the day, others left notes and flowers. some just came to comfort one another. on the night of december 2nd, the fire ignited in the building used as an artists' collective. the warehouse was hosting a concert, but the building did not have a permit for entertainment or residential use. later investigators reported serious electrical problems inside. >> oakland needs to rise up, do better. we're trying to do that at the investment level with more inspectors. >> reporter: there are ongoing lawsuits filed on behalf of the victims' families against the building's owner, the city of oakland and property manager. >> something has to be changed. the laws have to be changed.

you can't do concerts in the warehouse like that. >> reporter: still, one year later, the community used art in many forms to remember the victims and promised to never forget them. in oakland, lonnie rivera, abc 7 news. dozens of candles lined edge of lake meridan to honor those in the fire. it is a memorial to those who died inside that warehouse. the u.s. postal inspector reported that two blocks were evacuated in oakland after a postal worker found a suspicious device in a blue mail collection box. someone discovered the device just before 4:00 yesterday afternoon at 59th street and san pablo avenue. it's unclear if the device is real or a hoax. recently explosive devices were mailed to homes in alameda and

east palo alto, injuring the people who opened them. more financial help for north bay wildfire victims. the press democrat reports the north bay fire relief fund is sending out its second round of checks to people who have lost their homes. the fund has raised a lot of money, $24 million so far, and there's still time for wildfire victims to get their share. napa residents have until this friday to apply through the center for volunteer and the nonprofit leaderships and sonoma valley residents can apply through larue's center. their deadline is the following friday, december 15th. a little bit of relief is on the way for those affected by the north bay fires. abc 7 news was in san jose as the nonprofit, it is called turning wheels for kids, handed out more than 200 bicycles for victims. firefighters from three departments in marin county

picked up those bikes. they plan to distribute them this weekend with more. they're going to be helping these kids. they plan to distribute them, lifting spirits during what could be a difficult time. >> the fires may have been two months ago, but christmas is here, and a lot of these families are still reeling with the aftermath of this fire, so we hope that this bicycle will not only provide them with a mode of transportation but a little bit of joy and escape as they enter the holiday season. >> yeah, the goal is to have a thousand bikes to give out. they are still in need of donations. if you would like to help, you can drop off a bike at any marin county, mill valley or southern marin fire station. lisa is here talking about how we need rain but does not seem like there's much in the forecast. >> no, but we have other things going on. we have king tides, a coastal flood advisory, full moon, frosty mornings and how about a

controversial tweet. but this time president trump's team says he is not to blame about the tweet on michael flynn, the former national security adviser, who pleaded guilty for lying to the fbi. flynn has also agreed to cooperate with the special counsel. abc news correspondent david wright has the latest. >> reporter: try as he might to savor his first big legislative victory, president trump keeps getting bogged down in the russia probe. >> what has been shown is no collusion, no collusion. there's been absolutely no collusion. >> reporter: today the "new york times" obtained e-mail exchanges from the trump transition team that showed general michael flynn was no renegade acting alone. in one e-mail, adviser katy

mcfarland worried about the political impact of obama's sanctions on russia. quote, if there is a tit for tat escalation, trump will have difficulty improving relations with russia, which has just thrown usa election to him. the white house tells the times mcmarland was referring to how the democrats are likely to spin this. >> general flynn is a wonderful man. i think he's been treated very, very unfairly by the media. >> reporter: president trump has always maintained that he fired flynn for lying to the vice president. >> no, he fired him because of what he said to mike pence, very simple. >> reporter: but a new tweet suggests flynn lied to the fbi, too. quote, i had to fire general flynn because he lied to the vice president and the fbi. he's pled guilty to those lies. it's a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. there was nothing to hide. overnight trump's attorney john dowd told abc news he, not the

president, drafted that tweet, and that he did so in a sloppy manner. if the president knew flynn lied to the fbi, it makes it more significant that trump allegedly asked the fbi director to go easy on flynn, as james comey later testified. >> i understood him to be saying that what he wanted me to do was drop any investigation connected to flynn's account of his conversations with the russians. >> reporter: comey, now a private citizen since the president fired him, is clearly relishing the work of the special counsel, posting this sunset photo to instagram with the comment, to paraphrase the budd buddha, three things can no longer be hidden: the sun, the moon and the truth. >> president trump tweeted again saying he did not tell comey to stop investigating, just another fake news to cover another lie. diane feinstein says she

does not believe general flynn acted alone. on "meet the press" this morning, feinstein said in addition to mueller's investigation, the senate judiciary committee is also looking into what could be the obstruction of justice. >> i do not believe general flynn was a rogue agent. i do not believe that on his own conclusion he would go out and try to tell the russians in two instances. i think he had to have been directed. now, whether the special counsel can find that evidence or not, whether we can, i don't know yet. >> and the democratic senator says she hopes more people will come forward and cooperate with mueller's investigation for the truth to come out. this morning a college basketball player who collapsed during a game after his heart stopped is recuperating in a hospital. south carolina state's athletic trainer is being praised for his quick response in the life or

death moment. abc news reporter adrian bankert has more. >> reporter: it was a heart-stopping moment on the court and it wasn't the game. >> south carolina state player went down at the bench. >> reporter: the stadium filled with basketball fans goes silent as coaches and teammates jump in to give guard ty solomon he collapsed, his heart stopping just as he got off the court with the matchup with north carolina state. both teams visibly shaken. >> our team was really bothered because that could be one of your teammates. >> our head coach just dropped to his knees and started praying. everybody else for the most part just followed suit. we all wish the best for him. >> reporter: paramedics rushed to take over, finally resuscitating solomon. the crowd cheers as he's taken off on a stretcher taken to the hospital. >> we're thankful ems did a

great job. our thought our doctors, our trainers, south carolina state trainers did a good job. >> i guess you have all these things in place for a situation like this, but you never expect it to happen. >> reporter: the team returning to the court 40 minutes later to a standing ovation. adrian bankert, abc news, new york. this morning the pontiac silver dome is still standing. explosives that were placed in steel beams were set off this morning. spectators cheered, but the stadium did not implode. it did not crumble to the ground. construction crews say the silver dome was built just a little too well. officials say now it's a matter of simply letting gravity do its job. they say it's going to collapse, they just don't know when. and the construction company says it might have to take it down mechanically. the 49ers, by the way, won their first nfl championship in super bowl xvi at the silver dome, and that was back in 1982.

the biggest and the brightest moon of the year will rise over the bay area tonight. reports say the so-called supermoon will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than normal and will be the only one of 2017. you're looking at video of the last supermoon. it was december 13th last year. december supermoons go by a variety of names from supermoon to blue moon to full cold moon and big spirit moon. interestingly, the term supermoon is not an astronomical term, according to a "new york times" report. it was coined by an astrologer back in the 1970s, not by scientists. good view tonight under the clear sky, and we're looking at the exit of a little precip this morning. predictions have been raised to

about 4 inches in heavenly with a high of about 36 degrees. it's going to be a cool one out there, and we will look for numbers around the bay area to be a little cooler than average. here's a live look outside from emeryville where the numbers are in the 50s right now. 54 at the coast, 52 san francisco, mountain view and oakland, with 53 in san jose. the golden gate bridge looks nice. it will be cool today, though. winds could be gusting in excess of 20 miles an hour at the coast. 43 in santa rosa, 50 at the delta, low 50s for you in concord, livermore 50 degrees. we do have a wind advisory in effect for tonight, but with the cloud cover last night, we ended up staying a little bit more milder than we have been. probably didn't notice the difference. 2 to 7 degrees milder now compared to yesterday. it's in the 40s at the beach right now in santa cruz. sunny and cool today. breezy at the coast. winds in the north and east bay hills tonight to tuesday.

dryer days later on in the week. here's the advisory. in the north bay could see winds gusting up to 55 miles n hour. in the north and east bay gusting at the peak. if you're doing any hiking or biking, you'll notice it. as you can see, from mt. tam, not too windy yet. if you're in concord, livermore, santa rosa, napa, you'll notice the overnight lows not affected by the wind, so as a result it will be cool. mid-30s tonight and then the coldest morning should be wednesday morning when the winds will dial back for everyone and we'll be in the mid-30s. frost is possible. back to today, though, on the peninsula. nice and sunny. temperatures will be in the upper 50s, so not too warm. it will be a little bit breezy at times, and once the sun sets, 4:50, it's going to get really cool. a good viewing tonight of the supermoon. so between now, tomorrow and tuesday we have that coastal flood advisory with the king

sutra, lots of sunshine, but you notice the camera shaking a little bit. the winds at the coast and up above. 52 in concord, livermore at 50. we do have a coastal flood advisory and that high tide was about 10 minutes ago, but we're going to continue to see this cycle through tomorrow and into tuesday with perhaps nearly 7 feet come tuesday morning. so coastal areas, low-lying areas could see some flooding. as of the forecast for today, you can see sfo nice and sunny, mid to upper 50s today as we get to the noon hour, and that's about where we'll stay through 4:00 p.m. we'll talk about the chilly nights, the breezy wind and the 7-day outlook for the bay area in just a few minutes. carolyn? >> thank you, lisa. the big story out of washington this morning, the senate has passed its version of a massive tax bill. it is hundreds of pages long, and the fine print will have an impact on american families. abc news reporter stephanie ramos has a look at some of the

more unusual provisions. >> reporter: this morning president trump taking a victory lap of sorts after the senate passed a sweeping tax bill. >> it's the largest tax decrease in the history of our country by far. it's not even close. >> reporter: democrats pouncing, some saying even reading the bill was a challenge. >> i can read one word. it's called "add this language." can you tell me what that word is? >> reporter: this is a massive tax bill with changes to the u.s. tax code that haven't been made in 30 years. >> the tax cuts and jobs act as amended is passed. >> reporter: here's just a slice of what's in it. the elimination of the obamacare mandate, slashing the corporate tax rate from 35 to 20%, doubling the standard deductions but abolishing all individual, state and local income tax deductions. for americans making more than $100,000 a year, it could mean a big tax cut, but middle class americans making less than $75,000 a year could end up paying more in taxes over the

next 10 years. but there are also some new and surprising amendments, like tax breaks for private jet owners and for alcohol producers. now, the next challenge lies with the house. both the house and senate must work out the differences in their two bills. stephanie ramos, abc news, washington. abc news has suspended reporter brian ross for four weeks without pay for an error on the michael flynn story. ross said flynn was prepared to testify that donald trump, as a presidential candidate, had told him to contact the russians. abc news put out this statement. "we deeply regret and apologize for the serious error we made. the reporting by brian ross during the special report had not been fully vetted through our editorial standards process." . the statement goes on

is vital we get the story right and retain the trust we have built with our audience. we fell far short of that. a teenager from florida is reunited with her parents a week after she disappeared. the girl allegedly ran away with her soccer coach, a coach from her high school. abc has more on what the teen's parents are saying about the incident. >> reporter: this morning 17-year-old kaitlyn frisina back in the arms of her parents. >> we are just thrilled to death to be together again. >> reporter: an emotional reunion after police say the north florida teen ran off with 27-year-old high school soccer coach ryan rodriguez. investigators in columbia county believe the two may have had a blossoming relationship. >> it's difficult. i'm glad i have my daughter back where i know i can protect her and keep her safe as a father always wants to do. >> reporter: surveillance cameras caught images of them at a gas station and a pawn shop in the carolinas. on friday, 100 miles away in

syracuse, new york, police spotted rodriguez' car and pulled him over. >> the car was then pinned by our vehicle. the investigator, along with the fbi, took him at gunpoint and were taken into custody without incident. >> reporter: kaitlyn, a singer at her school, was able to sneak out her bedroom window, her cell phone wiped clean and left behind. >> we're looking forward to a lot more time together and being able to get back home and move forward as a family. >> reporter: kaitlyn's father, also a soccer coach, reacting to the fact rodriguez was a family friend and once an assistant coach on his staff. >> it may make me a little more cautious when i'm trusting people, but we have to love and cherish people, and you have to let people in your life sometimes, even if that cost is getting hurt sometimes. >> reporter: kenneth moten, abc

news, new york. san francisco workershave taken down a memorial for kate steinle. this memorial was created after the man charged in steinle's murder was acquitted. according to the examiner, a group called identity europa helped set it up. that group has ties to the white nationalist rally in charlottesville, virginia. the steinle family asked mayor ed lee to remove the memorial yesterday to prevent kate's death from being politicized. the decision to take down the memorial had nothing to do with who created it. it is standard procedure to remove memorials from city property ten days after a victim is laid to rest. oakland is bracing for a strike by city workers this week. the service employees international union and the international federation of professional and technical engineers plan to strike on tuesday. police and fire employees will not participate.

that's when the winds will settle down. rest of the week we have numbers near average and afternoon highs will be coming up as well. as we look outside, you can see the flag blowing there, and the winds at the coast could be in excess of 20 miles an hour. this is a system that moved through earlier today, dropping about four inches at heavenly above 6,000 feet. homewood picked up three and a half inches, so now chain controls have been lifted and there is some blue sky in the mountains. this is a look at santa cruz where it will be a cool beach day in the low 50s. most locations from san francisco, oakland, half moon bay at 54, san jose from 53, and from sutro, nice vantage point with good visibility from the clear sky. that's what that wind will do, clear out the atmosphere. we need some rain and you definitely know probably we're running a little bit behind average. livermore at 50, 43 in santa rosa. numbers this morning due to the cloud cover, that cold front,

were up a bit. 7 degrees warmer now than we were yesterday but we won't climb too much. we'll be around average in most locations. sfo is sunny, on the peninsula a little breezy at times. sunny and cool. look for the wind to pick up in the east bay hills, sunny on tuesday and mild to the end of the week. from the north bay hills to the east bay hills, sunny, and by tonight it's quite gusty. it could be locally up to 55 miles an hour, maybe not quite as strong in the east bay hills. this is mainly above a thousand feet. so on the peninsula today, you'll enjoy a lot of sun, but you can see just in the 50s for much of the morning, and afternoon highs about 58 degrees with a bit of a north wind out there. so those north winds will definitely keep it cool. ilts a dry atmosphere certainly at night. 60 oakland, 59 in palo alto and santa cruz. if you are headed over to oakland for the raiders, it's going to be a cool day today.

oakland's largest tent cities. oakland's mayor says it's just one solution in the effort to deal with the homeless population living on the streets. reporter laura anthony has the details. >> reporter: they are tuff sheds, 10 of them 20 by 20 each, hoping to take a dent out of the city's homeless problem. >> if you live on the streets right here, right now, we want to offer you the opportunity of living here. >> reporter: he's in charge of the city's homeless outreach program. >> we looked at how we could build something that would have the most immediate impact both for the unsheltered living here and for dealing with the problems of garbage, the blocked roadways, the rats, the garbage that piles up and everything else. >> reporter: he says the city hopes to have these 20 tuff sheds ready for moving.

they would accommodate 40 people, two to a shed. while residents would have to abide by certain rules, drug and alcohol use won't necessarily be prohibited. >> anything we try that's new will have risk. but i think the greater risk is to do nothing. >> i feel like it's a joke. >> reporter: but some aren't so sure this is the answer. janae scarborough told us her father and his dogs live in a tent just down the street from the tuff sheds. >> he's doing better in a tent with furniture and stuff. this is something you put dogs in. >> reporter: once the sheds are completely occupied, they will attempt to disassemble the tents around them. >> oakland officials say they hope to begin moving residents into those tuff sheds as soon as this week. the maximum stay will be six months. coming up, the largest outdoor design festival in the country makes its way to the bay
