grounded. you don't know if you're going to make it to work on time some days but she was very calming influence for that moment. >> she feels for her 10-year-old daughter. >> i feel sorry for her daughter and for her husband. a little girl needs her mother. she's 10 years old. >> han is originally from burma. she was a caltrans toll worker since 2007. both men charged in the 36 deaths of the ghost ship warehouse fire are expected in court this morning. >> tiffany wilson with what we can expect at the hearing today. tiffany? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. today is the first day the judge is expected to hear evidence against those two men and the hearing will last five days.

ghost ship founder derick almena and max harris charged with 36 counts of manslaughter. they have pleaded not guilty. prosecutors say the men create add fire hazard that led to the deadliest fire in oakland's history on december 2nd, 2016. 36 people died on the second floor of the fruitvale warehouse. a vigil was held at the warehouse. one mother who lost her son visited the site for the very first time. >> new year's eve or new year's day that i told my son daniel let's go to the warehouse. okay, mom, we'll go. and when it came time, we couldn't do it. that's very hard. >> reporter: investigators found serious electrical problems inside the warehouse but were unable to determine an official cause of the fire. today's hearing is expected to start at 8:45. tiffany wilson, abc 7 news.

tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >> a mail carrier found a package saturdayen side of a blue outgoing mailbox not mailed but presumably just dropped into the box. inside officials found what they call a suspicious device. at&t agents collected the evidence. an explosive device was delivered to the home of an alameda police officer. and on october 19th an explosive package arrives in east palo alto. >> this is the world we live in now. >> it's not yet known if the packages are connected. it is now heading to a federal crime lab in d.c. a second round of relief funding is about to be released to victims of the north bay wildfires. the north bay fire relief fund has raised $24 million sofar.

they have until friday to apply through the center for volunteer and nonprofit. some new developments in the 911 call. according to "the chronicle" dispatchers answer 90% of emergency calls it receives within ten seconds. that's a significant improvement since april. that was the lowest point. the center is still trying to hire more dispatchers. new york's metropolitan opera says it is suspending its relationship with long time conductor james levine pending an investigation into sexual abuse allegations. levine was accused of sexually abusing them when they were teenagers. the 74-year-old would not be

at 6:24 we follow breaking news out of alameda. there is a live firefighting presence there this morning. a home was on fire. we could see the flames just a few moments ago. as you can see still smoke coming from the top of that structure but we don't see any flames right now. you can see a firefighter in the back of that house. now if you're familiar with alameda this is a block away from park street, the main drag in the city. the newest information we have and you can see sky maps showing you where this is on eagle avenue, the newest information we have is that firefighters are looking for a possible victim of this fire. we don't have any more information that that. as soon as we get more information about this house fire in alameda we'll of course pass it along to you. you can download the abc 7 news app to get updates as we get it. time to ask finney. ayden has a question about credit scores.

avoid the bay bridge this morning if at all possible. amy hollyfield is live for us. >> reporter: this is an improved situation, though, when we started the morning four lanes were closed here at the toll plaza so we had a bad feeling about the morning commute. now only one lane is closed, booth 14, the booth that was wiped out in the crash. joining me live is the spokesperson for caltrans. can you tell us what changed, how you were able to open three of the four lanes this morning. >> we were able to open up the booths at 4:30 this morning. all of our workers put in good, hard effort. surprisingly one of the toughest jobs and most time consuming jobs was sweeping up all the debr debris. that's a hazard to the traveling public. once they got all that cleaned up they were able to clean up the damage to the three toll booths and get them reopened.

a community forum will be held at 5:30 tonight. five elementary schools in the south region are now at risk of closure and they include baldwin, frost, gilder, oak ridge and santa teresa. oak dwroef district has seen a drop in enrollment and is considering consolidating eight schools. emergency alert systems in the wake of the north bay wildfires. a committee on emergency management will look at how residents were notified or not notified of the approaching fires. sonoma and napa counties did not send out alerts through the wireless system. they say it would have pinninged every phone connected to the cell phone tower and that could have caused gridlock. victims of the north bay wildfires have another reminder that they're not forgotten. abc 7 news was at valley of the

moon winery as a free holiday dinner was served for about 100 people who lost their homes. aside from the feast the dinner had another purpose. >> so we wanted a couple purposes, one, to bring people back together during this holiday time to gather with their friends and talk about their experiences. some people haven't seen each other since the fire happened. >> nearly one out of four homes in glen ellyn was destroyed. the barbecues used to cook the meals were raffled off to raise funds. from the valley of the moon to the super moon. breathtaking images coming in. super moons occur when it's closest to earth. the full moon in december is known as the cold moon. there will be another one january 1st and another one on january 31st. >> you know what those coincide

san mateo looks much better than this. police release this had video that shows a truck driver plowing into the back of a car and that car then hitting another. this is from a different angle. officials say the truck was going about 43 miles an hour when it crashed. the driver admitting to falling asleep at the wheel. he was arrested and has been jailed for 16 months. the other two drivers suffered several broken bones but are otherwise doing okay. the tape is real. billy bush saying it was indeed donald trump's voice captured on that 2005 "access hollywood" tape about fame enabling him to grope and try to have sex with women. the former "access hollywood" and "today" show personality claims, quote, of course he said it. bush said he felt he needed to write the piece. the tape emerged during the 2016 presidential campaign and prompted more than a dozen women to come forward saying mr. trump

had sexually assaulted or harassed them. he denied it. and at the live desk south korea and the united states have start add joint military exercise with hundreds of aircraft. south korea's defense ministry says the five-day drill called vigilant ace is meant to improve the allies' preparedness. about 12,000 u.s. military personnel are part of the drill. this comes a week after north korea test fired its most powerful missile yet. the air force says this training is held every year in late fall and is not in response to any particular incident. the first american baby born from a uterus transplant. the baby was delivered by c-section last night in dallas and is the ninth baby born in the world from a transplanted uterus joining the eight other babies successfully born from transplanted uteruses in sweden. he is said to be in perfect

joining a public transport association. they say the partnership will address issues like congestion and the so-called first and last mile issue. that's the issue of getting people from their home to public transit and to their jobs. it is seen as a way for uber to mend ties with regulators after a series of scandals. facebook is coming for your kids launching a messaging app called messenger kids. the free app is aimed at kids under 13 who can't have their own accounts under facebook's rules. the app won't let children add their own friends or delete messages. only parents can do that. parents also control their child's contact list and can remove contacts anytime. that app is available on apple devices, versions for android are in the works. >> getting them trained on that so young. back to the breaking news where one person has been confirmed to have died. >> this is happening on eagle avenue near oak street near the main drag. tiffany wilson has just arrived

there. tiffany? >> reporter: the house that caught fire is behind me. they are cutting holes to vent. i did see some flames on the front porch. now the fire department confirms there is one fatality from this fire. neighbors say that a 94-year-old man lived alone in this house. he's lived here his entire life. neighbors say that during the week he had live-in help who would stay with him but on the weekend he did not have that assistance so there was nobody there last night. neighbors told me he often would cook for himself but forget something was cooking and that he has caused a kitchen fire before. firefighters, of course, have not confirmed the location or the cause of this fire as of yet. we are waiting to learn that. you can get another live look of the house. firefighters, again, pretty calm. the fire does appear to be
