>> we're learning that patient who escaped from the psych hospital last night tried to do it again today. but was unsuccessful. 24 year-old escaped from the hospital around 6:30 p.m. beginning a wild chain of events. sheriffs arrested him an hour after he got out. but what happened during that time is remarkable. authorities say it began with two carjacks. he allegedly crashed this first stolen car. who i will fighting with a 15 year-old passenger. the victim in the second carjacking was bitten. as his keys were stolen. eventually had ran onto the interstate on foot. with deputies close behind. >> he jumped on the flaefs struck by a car at 65 miles per hour. amazingly survived that collision. went flying into the air. and got up off the groupd and ran again. away from our deputies. and was able to flee. >> deputies found him hiding in the bushes with help from a

drone with their imaging technology. with only a broken arm. drug use maybe to blame for this accident that killed a man and put the driver under arrest. tragedy struck. chris win is in fremont. >> reporter: in fremont a sense of sadness grips this bustling neighborhood. >> when i saw it, it was just i couldn't believe my eyes. >> reporter: a neighbors completely stunned after a deadly crash. >> you could hear the big boom and water everywhere. >> reporter: the crash happened just before 10:00 this morning. fremont police say the driver of a nissan rogue collided with a back of a trailer that was lawfully parked on the side of the road. killing a 44 year-old man. trying to moou a piano. we were at the scene as police

used their drone to gather evidence. >> to have somebody lose their life in this manner is tragic. and on top of everything else going on today. >> reporter: the 57 year-old driver was taken to a hospital. where investigators had probable cause to arrest him for driving under the influence of drugs. victim died at the scene. >> people are out here all the time. people live here. this is a shopping area, a residential area. a business area. so there's lots of people and activity. >> this video from drone view 7 shows an proximation of what police saw as they use their drone. speeding has been a problem in the area. >> you'll always hear honking. especially there. that's people just don't pay attention and obviously this an ample. >> reporter: anyone with information is urged to call police. a worker was critically hurt

on a barge in san francisco bay this afternoon. sky 7 was over the scene. after the worker was rushed to the hospital. a san francisco fire boat on training exercise heard the call for help. details about what happened are not clear. sky p flew over a warehouse fire in livermore today. smoke pouring from the roof. firefighters had a hard time accessing lt building. they ta there was a lot of stuff stored high up close to the ceiling. and here's another look at the roof from sky 7. you can see what looks like an orange glow coming through the vicinit vent. it's not clear what started the fire. crews dealt with a huge garage fire. it broke out on gemini road. firefighters say neighbors reported hearing explosions. no word on what caused thep. no one was hurt. in san francisco. smoke billowed from this house on 16th avenue.

something apparently went wroj with the drier. four people are out of the home as a result. the fire department tweeted the pictures. later in the city. firefighters were called out to ash ton avenue. a car crashed into a building and sheered off the gas meter. you can see the right side of the house is just collapsed. scary. questioning the leadership of the jails. after another correctional officer is arrested for misconduct. a guard was arrested for sending photographs to a teenage girl. this is the latest black eye for the sheriffs department. >> reporter: at 23 years old. hopper work td as a correctional officer at the main jail. police just arrested him after he allegedly sent elicit photographs of hips to a 17 year-old girl and asked her to do the same. >> that raises the question of how are they vetting folks to bring in there to be the guards? should there be people who are

older than that who have more maturity more experience in the world? what has been implemented. >> reporter: retired judge chaired the independent over sight commission which was formed after three correction mall officers beat mentally ill inmate to death. the commisson recommended a change in leadership at the jail and a permanent over sight committee should be established. in that time there's been more accusations of use of force. inmates escaped and last month inmates escaped from custody at the courthouse. >> confidence ntd law enforcement institution. they need to know there's somebody on watch. and we're looking to create that somebody on watch. >> reporter: supervisor says the county has been looking over 623 rejss on how to improve the jail. >> when things like this happen the sheriff has held individuals accountable. she started a reform plan. 18 months ago. and she's made significant head way.

>> reporter: sources say hopper was a probation area officer and since been let go by the sheriffs office. a vote on forming an over sight committee is expected to happen in january. northern california man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for looting during the dam emergency last february. john jr. pleaded no contest to first degree residential burglary. the looting happened while 200,000 people were evacuated because of concerns the damage to the spill way might cause flooding. his lon sentence was issued under the three strikes law. >> one teenager is under arrest for two home burglaries and they have good leads on six other suspects. police say the two burglaries took place on october 30. two homes were ransacked. investigators say the surveillance video helped identify one teenager carrying a

bag. the 17 year-old teenager from san jose later admitted to taking part. police encourage the other six to turn themselves in. oakland man is under arrest for breaking into five cars in the parking lot of barts mcarture station. an alert customer saw him smashing windows and pulling on car doors yesterday afternoon. the customer flagged down a nearby bart officer. who quickly detained freedman. all stolen property was returned. a lot more to come. twice a couple scrolls through pictures of a home lost in the southern california wild fire. that comes two months after they lost their homes in the north bay. the one thing they learned that everyone should know about. also. the fire fight down south. once again we're live on the fire lines. >> i'll have the latest from the fire lines in terms of the weather. plus a look at whether this dry hazy pattern is sticking around for the weekend.

this is the thomas fire. in ventura county. you see flames and smoke shooting out. the fire has grown to more than 200 square miles. that's four times the size of san francisco. containment however is 10%. the aerial assault on the fire is fierce. and the city of oh hi is right in the middle of the fire fight. fire has burned or is burning all around the tiny town. that's where reporter from our sister station is live right now. >> we just got back from where the blaze is burning outside of
