>> announcer: live, where you live. this is abc 7 news. good evening. thanks for joining us. i'm eric thomas. >> we begin with developments on decade old cold case. >> a kid nopg of a girl in 1995 is under arrest. lonnie river aire is live with how authorities found him all the years later. lonnie. >> reporter: yes, eric, and dion sources tell abc 7 news that the state department matched the photo of the suspect to a wanted photo issued here in hills borrow back in 1995. he was applying for passport using his real name. and they notified authorities here in hilsborough to see if they were looking for him. that man is in custody in

connection with a 20-year-old kidnapping case vofgt a girl of a wealth taiwan taiwanese family. back in december of 199a. christine was kidnapped outside her school as she walked to her home across the street. the kidnappers demanded a ran some from her family and held her captive for nine hours and they gave up and released when they learned the parents were away in taiwan. fast forward 20 years later. detectives arrested one of three people suspected in kidnapping in southern california. that suspect kevin lynn is brought back to the bay area. hilsborough police took him in custody in l.a. process. you can see in the inmate locater pages being held on a million bail. and police here in hilsborough they will release a press release this evening this

evening. they haven't done it yet. the arrest is one of two. there is one more man out there never arrested in the case. live in hilsborough lonnie rivera abc 7 news. >> firefighters are turning the tide on the six major wildfires burning in southern california. evacuees are allowed back in but there is concern about flare ups. a red flag warning remains in effect because of the winds the fires are ald fwlamd for one death, destroyed 800 homes and charred about 175,000 acres from ventura to san diego county. >> we are fortunate. we have family close by and other options. and you know it's material stuff other people are enduring so much more tragedy in their life. we have nothing to complaint about. and you got to focused on that makes the rest of it easier to deal with. >> governor jerry brown toured the damage today in ventura county. survivors of the north bay

wildfires face a critical deadline on monday, the last day to sign up for federal disaster relief. both fema and the small business administration can help people aircrafted by fires. fire survivors can apply to fema to cover losses. businesses or non-profits can apply to mall business administration for low interest loans. you can find out more information on of the website. one week ago a deadly crash on the bay bridge took the life of a toll taker. she lives li leaves behind a husband and young daughter. her grieving husband spoke to abc 7 news reporter. >> she was a very wonderful woman. we meet when i was 15. >> it was love at first sight for ryen when he met sisi back in native burma in 1991. >> i was very lucky that i can stay married to her.

>> but it took ten long years to finally start a life in san lorenzo. once their daughter was born it felt complete. everything changed at 5:10 a.m. he had just dropped his wife off for her sheft when police say a drunk driver slammed into her toll booth. >> i didn't believe it. i tried to call the cell phone too hoping, you know, she stay conscious or something like that. it went straight to the voice mail. >> sisi died instantly. the life ryan saw was gone. yesterday friends and family gathered for the funeral and to say goodbye. but the 41-year-old widower is struggle to survive without her. >> i like to do whatever she wanted me to do. and then she is very happy with too when she is happy i'm happy too. i'm going to be miss her a lot.

a group from san francisco to palo alto for a party. but at the kurch the bus fishtailed hit the center divider and bounced back across four lines. >> the bus flipped over. >> on my side. >> my gosh. >> i was lucky. >> lucky indeed. disorders y escaped the bus. all 29 passengers and the driver were taken to the hospitals. >> the driver was mot impaired at the time of the collision. >> the chp towed the bus to the evidence yard where it will be inspected for he can mechanical failure. >> we'll look at everything including any sort of driver input or speed if you will that may have caused this. >> how fast was the bus going? do you know? >> no because we were so -- there was a great mood. we were talking to each other. so you know nobody was careful to what was happening. >> the california public utilities commission which oversees charter buses shows the company is listened and insured. we reached out to the charter

brothers for comment. but haven't heard. cornell barnard abc 7 news a pedestrian is dead after hit by car on san francisco's busy streets. abc news was in the city sunset district after a car struck the victim at 19th avenue. witnesses say the woman driving the car stayed on the scene after the tragedy at about 4:30 this afternoon. police still haven't determined who was at fault. we are getting new details today about a shooting spree that left five people deed in a california kilo. the sheriff issued a final report stating the gunl fumble died by his own gun. no officers exchanged gunfire with the man and all indications are he acted alone. neil killed his wife november 13th and went on a shooting rampage killing four others. people in san francisco and across the country remember this year's fifth anniversary of the deadly mass shooting at sandy hook elementary. abc 7 news was inside this

church the house minority leader nancy pelosi spoke to a group. the group organized about 200 interfaith vigils nationwide calling for tough err gun laws. >> when 20 little children and their exceptional teachers were gunned down, you would think that that would be the limit. >> 20 students and six teachers died when a mentally disturbed man opened fire at the school in 2012. the 3,000 city workers who walked off the job five days ago plan to remain on strike through monday. but there may be an end in sight. tonight we learn while the strike goes on the union and city have agreed on a mediator. rec center as libraries are closed due the walk out streets are not cleaned. we also have heard from some people that garbage is beginning to pile up. well in more ahead tonight

thursday night. abc 7 eye witness news. >> looks like fun rchlts some bay area tech companies are under fire tonight for reportedly hiring female models for holiday parties. the news comes during a time of high-profile sexual harassment cases bloomberg reports modelling agencies see a record number of companies paying up $200 an hour for a model to mingle. we reached out to the head of girls in tech. a bay area group that seeks to empower women in the industry. the women there say it damages the work environment. >> because if your executives are making negative decisions like that and really placing emphasis on physical attributes as a way to inincentivize employees with the paid models, then it -- to it creates a toxic culture. >> facebook says it never hires the so-called atmosphere models

california. the areas in red, all unthe red flag warning for santa barbara all the way oh san diego. affecting approximately 7.9 million people. this is in effect until tomorrow night at 8:00 because they have gusty kansas and low humidity. i want to show you the satellite image from this afternoon. you can actually see the smoke heading out towards the ocean. but then it circles right back into the bay area. that's because we have this area of high pressure and the air moves in a clockwise direction. the fires from southern california are impacting our air quality. and therefore we have another spare the air alert tomorrow. no wood burning allowed for us because that's going to affect us as well. there will be poor air quality in the north bay, the coast, the central bay and areas like the inland east bay, south central bay and santa clara valley have moderate air quality. i also want to show you this

shot. from the east by looking out towards the san francisco area. this camera is bouncing around a bit so it could be breezy in the higher elevations but calm elsewhere. right now temperatures quite a range. san francisco 53. oakland mountain view in the 40s. gill row 39. half moon bay at 66 degrees. touchstone dropping this time looking down towards san francisco lots of 30s in some inland areas where we might drop below freezing. santa rosa 36. fairfield 35. concord 33. livermore at 38 degrees. the time as we look out towards the fairy building here is what to expect. poor air quality. chilly and cold into tomorrow morning. and then the dry mild pattern continue through next week. not a drop in sight. lows tonight into tomorrow morning are going to be cold in the north bay. we're talking 32 degrees in santa rosa. napa low 30s at well and

across southern california tonight. so far flames have destroyed about 800 homes and other building. governor jerry brown toured ventura county today where the largest fire has burned 242 square files. >> alabama's candidate for the u.s. senate has the wind at its back. but doug jones his opponent is getting new support from the president. the battle for a senate seat overshadowed by allegations of sexual misconduct. >> doug jones is crisscrossing the state ahead of the election. >> people are ready for a change. people know that we have a unique opportunity in the state of alabama. >> jones's long shot odds of winning the republican held senate seat increased after multiple allegation of sexual misconduct surfaced against his opponent. at an earlier rally joenls accused moore of limiting availability to the press.
