hours away and is seen by many as not just a referendum on the president but on the republican party, which has been fractured over their controversial candidate. embattled republican senate candidate roy moore getting another boost from the president. >> we need roy to help us. >> reporter: telling voters in a recorded message -- >> roy moore is the guy we need to pass our make america great again agenda. >> reporter: well, the president has been out with calls, tweets and even a mention in his friday event, moore absent. his only appearance this past week a pretaped interview. >> these allegations are completely false. i did not date underage women. i did not molest anyone. >> reporter: again denying the allegations of sexual misconduct or inappropriate behavior from at least eight women, at least two who were teenagers when he was in his 30s. moore's chief strategist argued this election isn't about the allegations but a referendum on the president, and if moore wins -- >> i highly doubt there's going to be a senate investigation but

if there is, judge moore will be found telling the truth. this is donald trump on trial in alabama. >> reporter: the race in a dead heat in the solid red state. >> there is an energy out there that can't be captured by pushing a telephone. >> reporter: even so, one vote moore won't get, the republican senior senator from alabama. >> i didn't vote for roy moore. i wouldn't vote for roy moore. >> reporter: jones not getting shelby's vote either but using that statement in ads out today. >> i think the republican party can do better. >> reporter: and hammering his opponent. >> just like senator shelby today, i believe those women. >> reporter: as he vies to be the first democratic senator of alabama in two decades. a win for doug jones mean the gop majority in the senate is slashed to one seat. if roy moore win and is ousted by an ethics investigation, it could tear apart the republican party. >> thanks, serena.

16 women who accused president trump of sexual assault and harassment are expected to appear together today to call for a congressional investigation. they're uniting for the first time to share details about their accusations. president trump has denied those allegations, but at least one member of his administration, u.n. ambassador nikki haley, now says the president's accusers should be heard. >> women who accuse anyone should be heard. they should be heard and they should be dealt with, and i think we heard from them prior to the election, and i think any woman who has felt violated or felt mistreated in any way, they have every right to speak up. >> a new poll finds 70% of americans believe congress should investigate sexual harassment allegations against the president. three democratic senators including bernie sanders say the president should resign over the allegations. we turn now to a major setback for firefighters in the west. the largest wildfire burning in southern california has now spread to 359 square miles. that makes it the fifth largest fire on record there with no end in sight.

new evacuations are being ordered as the flames march towards santa barbara. 18,000 homes now threatened including those of celebrities like ellen degeneres, oprah winfrey and rob lowe. air quality is also another major concern. leanne suter from our los angeles station kabc reports on the race to evacuate. >> i'm putting together 30 years of drawings, rolling them up and putting them in here. >> reporter: jim melnick never thought he would suddenly have to load up all his work into his pickup, but he also never thought the thomas fire would reach his santa barbara home. >> i'm saving my life's work here right now. it's a crazy time. >> reporter: a large swath of the seaside city now being evacuated. those up in mission canyon at extreme risk. >> we were in a fire and almost lost our house, so the fire came within six inches of the house. >> reporter: the fast-moving fire ripping through 56,000 acres in a day.

the explosive blaze now the fifth largest wildfire in california history charring more than 359 square miles, larger than new york city. >> it's just amazing how fast it's gone, and we know living in this canyon that it's a scary spot, but we've hoped that we would escape this one. >> reporter: officials say the fire is now moved into some areas that have never burned in recorded history. some of the dead and dry fuel over 50 feet deep. >> come on, monty, up. >> reporter: those scrambling to evacuate grabbing whatever they can. >> for patty it's all artwork. me, it's my computer and the records and that kind of stuff, so, but the beauty of it is we have our rv, and that rv is ready to go any time, any place. >> reporter: and they have now evacuated. officials say we are just 44,000 acres away from this fire becoming the largest wildfire in california history. in santa barbara, leanne suter, abc news. and it's a different story on the other side of the country where winter has arrived.

days after a rare snowfall the south is dealing with black ice this morning. in georgia some schools are closed or opening late and some homes remain without power. farther north a fedex truck ran off the road in washington county, virginia, leaving the trailer hanging off an overpass. the driver is okay. and heavy snow blanketed new england. this suv skidded into a pond in winchendon, massachusetts. fire crews were able to rescue the driver. and lake-effect snow is pounding upstate new york where the buffalo bills won their game on sunday in overtime or what some called snowvertime because there was so much time at times they could barely see the ball. great for snow angels, though. >> yeah, so mother nature clearly has been busy, so now a closer look at your weather for this monday morning. >> good morning. we are looking at red flag warnings persisting here in southern california. in fact, now they're extended through monday evening. so the fire danger remains high

we're back with some heart-stopping video of a tightrope walker who took a tumble 200 feet above paris. his misstep came during a 2200-foot walk from the eiffel tower over the seine river. you can see him dangling upside down but gets back up and finishes that test run then later completed the walk in one shot on live television. and in rome this tightrope walker managed to become the first person to cross the tiber river on a high-wire. he said the rain and wind were so bad, he thought about stopping midway through but powered through that 450-foot walk. benjamin netanyahu is meeting with leaders of the european union to discuss the violent aftermath of president trump's decision where he recognized jerusalem as israel's capital. now, the protests and resulting clashes have left hundreds of palestinians injured, and now palestinian officials have confirmed they will not meet with vice president mike pence when he visits this month. a spokesperson for the vice president calls that decision unfortunate.

back in this country a fourth victim has come forward as police in detroit search for a potential serial shooter targeting vehicles on highways. now, all of the shootings were early thursday. three drivers escaped unharmed. one was wounded in the leg but managed to limp to a gas station to get help. police are looking for a gray or silver car that may have been involved. quite a few questions this morning being raised the working conditions that some amazon delivery drivers are facing. drivers who work for subcontractors are being forced to deliver more than 200 packages each day without bathroom breaks often driving 12 hours a day exceeding the legal limit. amazon says it's committed to ensuring that its independent delivery providers treat workers fairly. and today is green monday. in other words, get ready to spend and hopefully save some green with some holiday shopping deals. it's not as popular as cyber monday. but still there are plenty of

held kala brown hostage in that metal container. for two months. you recall the case after killing her boyfriend and six other victims. in a letter to a local newspaper, he's now claiming there are several more undiscovered victims. >> kala brown told dr. phil kohlhepp once told her he killed nearly 100 people and while profiles of serial killers say they're not unusual they say the claims are unlikely. >> serial killer's entire identity is tied up in killing and now they've lost it so how do you get the spotlight back on you. you do it by saying there's more victims. >> this comes as a new letter to a south carolina newspaper in which kohlhepp brags that he tried to tell the fbi about additional victims but he was, quote, blown off. the fbi says it's a pending investigation. we're going to turn to the markets and a crypto currency as it's called which is really setting wall street on fire.

futures on bitcoin surged as much as 25% during their debut session on the chicago board options exchange. that's triggering two trading halts and skyrocketing to nearly $18,000. fans of the unregulated virtual currency are drawn to its anonymity and lack of control by both governments and banks. fans of the hit cable tv show "property brothers" are being warned about a scam targeting people who want to renovate their homes. a colorado couple posted on facebook they wanted to be picked for the popular show. someone e-mailed them and said they had been chosen but the e-mail asked for money up front. the property brothers learned about the familiar scam and posted a warning about it on their facebook page insisting they will never contact any of their fans over an unverified e-mail address. luckily the couple in colorado did not send the scammers any money. well, some disturbing images are raising questions about how the nfl deals with concussions.

the quarterback from houston here, tom savage, driven to the turf after a pass against the 49ers. when he was on the ground, you look at it here, his head began and hands began shaking. some observers thought he had a seizure. savage came back in to play on houston's next possession. he was eventually diagnosed with a concussion. another quarterback also suffered a potentially season-ending injury on sunday. >> there was also some drama on sunday night football. let's get highlights from espn. good morning, america. >> good morning, utica. john buccigross, john anderson. good morning. pennsylvania nfl football, you start first. >> i'll do it. i'll start with the philadelphia side even though they were way out in california to face the rams. big showdown. the eagles are going to win it, but this is the biggest news to come out, carson wentz diving in for a touchdown, gets roughed up. they call it back, but you know what, the injury sticks. they fear there's a torn acl here that will end his season. he stayed in the game to complete the drive, give his

hollyfield live for us in oakland. >> reporter: reggie, could today be the last day of picketing? there is some hope that once both sides start mediation that some workers will go back to work. here's a look at the picketing that happened over the weekend. the libraries, of course, still closed over the weekend because workers are still on strike. the two sides have agreed to mediation with a neutral third party from the state after the mayor declared an impasse on friday. the two sides are still pretty far apart on money. union leaders will make the decision about whether the strike will continue. >> bargaining better faith, we'll review the strike action. >> i wish we could offer them more. i'm not in any way saying they don't deserve it. they do. but our revenues are prepared, the financials are the financials. >> reporter: here's a look at the effect of the strike, garbage piling up from the
