antioch police search for this 14-year-old gir 'killer. >> tonight the suspect is in custody. good evening i'm dan ash. >> i and i'm dion limb in nor aim dates. thanks for joining put two years ago they submit biological evidence to a forensics lab in san mateo. >> today they arrested mitchell lynn beak cam in antioch, a man with an extensive criminal history. >> we're live in police headquarters with more. lillian. >> because of advances in dna technology, police were able to make an afleft antioch's oldest unsolved murder case. >> we never gave up on bringing this case to a successful resolution. >> reporter: 37 years later, a break in the case that had the entire pay area on edge. susan bam bah deer was only 14 years old when she was kidnapped, raped, and murdered 'the now they say they have her killer in custody. 63-year-old man who knew the

family. >> our thoughts and prayers are with her family and we hope this development offers some level of comfort to them. >> reporter: police stay was 1980 when he kidnapped suzanne from her sister's apartment on hudson court while she was baby sitting her nieces. they say he raped her before he stabbed her in the chest which penetrated her heart. her body was found floating in the river just east of the antioch bridge just days later. investigators were only able to recently link him to the crime after several rounds of dna testing. >> justice may not have come as swiftly as we may have hoped or liked. but we will be continuing to work diligently on this case and hopefully justice will come. >> he has a long and violent criminal history. investigators are now trying to determine if his dna can be linked to other unsolved cases. in antioch, lilian kim, abc 7 news. a suspect in a decades old

kidnapping case in hillsboro remains in jail on $5 million bail tonight. he made his first court appearance today after being captured in los angeles on friday. police believe he captured and kidnapped 9-year-old kristine chu for ran some in 1995. tomorrow the stiff oakland will resume normal operations after a strike shut down city services for several days. we're live at city hall with more on these developments tonight. katie. >> reporter: there are till strike signs an protest signs in the windows of city hall but some 3,000 workers will be back on the job tomorrow, but it's only at suspense. strike as mediation is still under way and workers could go out again if union leaders call for it. these striking city of oakland workers will be back on the job tomorrow morning thanks in part to head way made by a mediator. >> i think the mediator has heptd naerts terms of reframing the issues and becoming more

the front lines of the thomas fire that's burning in ven truer and assistant barbara counties. it's burned at least 370 square miles, if you can believe it, since breaking out one week ago. cal fire says it's the fifth largest wildfire ever in california. it's 20% contained. now, two other fires are also still burning in southern california, it's impacting bay area air quality. you've probably noticed the hazy skies around here. drew tuma is here with more on that. >> we can show that you effect really well from satellite. look over southern california you can see smoke just coming off the coast just to the north and west of l.a. where we have those major fires burning. and the way our atmosphere is set up right now, winds are pushing that smoke all the way up to the kofl coast and right here into our neck. woods. that's going to happen again tomorrow. another spart air day in effect, poor air quality in north bay and along the coast for the smoke will be lingering. we'll look at a cold night
