traffic are doing. good morning, mike. we'll open the weather window on the east bay hills. you can see it's not bouncing around a lot. there's a little bit of a breeze out there. the fastest are above 2,500 feet. so let's take a look at what's going on as far as live doppler 7. it is still bone-dry out there. there's a little bit of fog bouncing around petaluma and santa rosa. visibility i have seen no lower than 5 miles. that's good because freezing temperatures are out there again. we'll keep an eye on the chance of black ice. 34 to 49 this morning. near 60 at noon, hanging around 60 at 4:00 with hazy sunshine and that 7:00, 48 to 51. it is a spare the air day. i'll take a look at our current air quality and where the poor air quality could develop later today. here's sue. road work on the bay bridge in the eastbound direction. coming from san francisco over towards oakland you can see a little bit of traffic on the lower deck. it's moving nicely, but the three right lanes are blocked off until 6:00 this morning so heads-up there. a little bit of slowing out of

tracy. we can tell that you ace train number 1 left stockton on time no delays there. road work if you're headed northbound on 101 past the robin williams tunnel, right lane is blocked off. they're doing electric work. at the live desk this morning, republican roy moore is refusing to concede after democrat doug jones upset him in the alabama senate elections. jones won by a razor thin margin of 1.5%, a difference of just under 21,000 votes. it trims the gop majority in the senate to 49 to 41. abc news reporter live in montgomery, alabama, with the latest. hi, maggie. >> reporter: jessica, hello. one month ago it would have been nearly impossible to imagine a democrat holding a senate seat in alabama, but here we are after the near record number of

people in alabama coming out to vote in the special election and they made history. tears of joy from supporters of doug jones as overnight the democratic nominee for senate did the unthinkable, turned a deep red state blue. >> i think that i have been waiting all my life and i don't know what the hell to say. >> reporter: abc news projects jones to win the alabama senate seat over roy moore. the lock on this senate seat was up-ended 34 days ago when allegations of sexual misconduct against moore were made public including accusations of sexual assault against two teenaged girls when moore was in his 30s. moore has denied all allegations. and while at least 19 gop senators asked him to step aside before the election, he was backed by president trump. on twitter he congratulated jones saying the people of alabama are great and the republicans will have another shot at this seat in a very short period of time and it may be soon. moore says his fight is not

over. >> when the vote is this close, it is not over. wait on god and less this process play out. >> reporter: moore's call for a recount faces an uphill battle. montgomery alabama, maggie rulli, abc 7 news. jessica? >> maggie, thank you. i do have another quick update on the story. president trump tweeting out this within the last hour saying, quote, the reason i originally endorsed luther strange and his numbers went up mightily is i said roy moore will not be able to win the general election. i was right. roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him. that's the latest here. natasha, back to you. happening tonight the oakland unified school district is expected to vote on proposed budget cuts and parents, students and teachers are upset at the plan to make those cuts. the proposed plan would bring

cuts spread akrs the system. board members plan to slash $ million from the current fiscal year. nearly $5 million would be slashed from the central administration. more than $4 million cut from school sites. protesters are planning to march from lake merit to the meeting at 5:30 this evening. in the south bay the san jose city council approved a pilot program to build tiny houses for the city's homeless residents. our media partner "the mercury news" reports the city council must decide on three possible sites for these small cabins. those are artist renderings of what they would look like. each one of the groups of homes would sleep up to 2,500 people until 2022. the plan would eventually place a village of the tiny homes in each of the city's ten districts. a list of final sites is due by next month. a reprieve for a business in berkeley. last month pacific steal told its workers it was closing after 83 years. according to the news website a

surge in new orders has delayed the plans. pacific steal will remain open through the end of march. they have even decided to hire additional workers. pacific steal and other foundries have lost business to cheaper labor markets overseas. 4:36 now. new details about the driver accused of killing a bay bridge toll taker. documents released by chp indicate daniel berk made comments he drank alcohol and smoked marijuana before the deadly crash on december 2nd. the medics noticed he had constricted pupils. officers said they detected faint odors of alcohol and marijuana on berk. the crash killed si si han at toll booth 14. one of california's largest wildfires ever keeps growing even with crews attacking the flames from the ground and the air. the thomas fire has scorched more than 360 square miles of land in the nine days since it broke out. it is only 25% contained. flames have destroyed about 680

homes in ventura and santa barbara counties and they threatened another 18,000 buildings. >> our number one concern is to keep the fire out of carpinteria and santa barbara and we're doing that so far. >> southern california edison says state regulators are investigating whether its equipment started the fire. authorities say a wildfire that destroyed six homes in the exclusive bel air section of l.a. was sparked by an illegal cooking fire in a homeless encampment. the camp was abandoned when firefighters uncovered it. officials say they plan to start looking for such encampments and will notify police. we come back in a few minutes and will take a look at the firefighter down in l.a. and our possibility of a heightened fire danger friday night into saturday and some breezy conditions will kick up around here. for now it's kind of calm out there as you can see on sutro tower. it's either pretty good to moderate.
