30s inland. mid-to upper 40s at 7:00. we'll be near 60 at noon. 60 at 4:00 with hazy sunshine, a few high clouds. grab the sunglasses. low to mid-50s at 7:00. we'll take a look at your activity planner for today. how about this morning's commute. sue with the answers. >> quiet right now which is nice at 5:01. by golden gate fields on into berkeley and the mcarthur maze. everybody is moving at the limit at a nice clip, so no problems there. no metering lights. we do have some cash payers that are a little bit delayed. fast trackers are moving nicely. the car-poolers are moving nicely. once again no bay bridge metering lights. however, remember that toll booth 14 still out of commission due to an accident a couple weeks ago so that may cause delays. so far people have been avoiding that now that they're used to it. we have some slow traffic out of tracy and slow traffic approaching on the sunol grade on 680. we'll come back with drive times in just a few.

yeah, that breaking news coming in from millbrae as the police chase ends with a car crashing into a country club, and police tells us this all started as a carjacking. abc 7 news reporter matt keller just got to the scene. he joins us live from millbrae. hi, matt. >> reporter: good morning, jessica. we do have the tow truck taking away the suspect's vehicle right now and is leaving the scene. so are police officers here. i talked with an officer from the san bruno police department. he said they are all done here. they arrested three people but three other suspects are still on the loose. check out the video at the end of the crash. the honda accord went through the bushes and through a fence. this police pursuit started at 2:30 on 380 and went to southbound 101 and into millbrae. chp says speeds reached about 100 miles an hour on the

highways and about 70 miles an hour on the surface streets. >> we work the graveyard shift. mostly everyone is home asleep. as long as traffic is clear we can't pursue. >> reporter: two women and one man arrested at the scene. chp, san mateo sheriff's department and millbrae set up a perimeter and started searching around the golf course using police dogs in the search. they have just wrapped up the scene just in the last few minutes. they do say if anybody in the neighborhood sees anything suspicious to call 911. matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you. a memorial is growing outside san francisco city hall in honor of mayor ed lee. this is a live look from our crew out there this morning. you can see a number of flowers and candles lit this morning. >> it's been an emotional 24 hours for a lot of people in san

francisco. cornell bernard has more on the tributes to mayor lee and he also spoke with the woman who comforted the mayor after he collapsed in a safeway. >> -- on the floor and having difficulty breathing. >> reporter: angelica told us by phone she'll never forget how she tried to help mayor ed lee after he collapsed in the safeway store. his wife anita called out for help. >> the first thing i asked, are you feeling any pain. he said yes. >> reporter: she called 911. a dispatcher told her to give the mayor aspirin until paramedics could arrive. she did. >> i just hoped he was going to be okay but woke up to the sad news. >> reporter: leon chow prayed outside mayor's home, a union representative for home health care workers, brought flowers, candles, and signs of thanks. chow says the mayor was always supportive. >> the mayor is in heaven. everybody appreciated.

he'll never see the light of day. >> lawyers for garcia torres plan to appeal saying it is a cruel and unusual sentence for a young man with no criminal record. during yesterday's sentencing garcia torres wanted to make a statement. prosecutors wouldn't allow it because he refused to do so under oath. legal analysts say that may have been a mistake because the statement may have shed light on what happened to lamar. action to provide emergency and immediate housing for victims of the recent fires. the sonoma county board of supervisors approved several new urgency ordinances to help with the housing crisis since the devastating wildfires. another expands the number of permitted units in existing mobile home parks. you'll find a list on our website, abc7news.com. wondering if it could get any colder than it has been the last couple of mornings, there you go. look at all the blue on the map.

61 at noon. 64 at 2:00. 56 if you're heading out at 6:00. looks like a real nice day today. we'll see if it lasts through the weekend. here is sue with a look at our drive times. >> it is a nice day to be out this early on the roadways. traffic is very light. a few little areas of red coming out of tracy that's very typical. your ace trains are running on schedule this morning. also some slow traffic on 84, your sort of shortcut down to 680. not anymore. it's always kind of a grind. let's look at the drive times. highway 4 into the mcarthur maze. this is your east shore commute. westbound 80, about 17 to 20 minutes. so that's good. and then your bay bridge, another eight minutes tacked on to that. less than 30 minutes to get all the way into san francisco. that's just about 30 minutes. 35 minutes from hercules. and if you're traveling to sfo from san francisco, there you go. under ten minutes. it should be no problem to catch a flight if you're heading there this hour.

hi, everyone. five fires continue to burn in southern california. the thomas fire is the only one that's still a major concern. and i want to show you brand-new video. santa clara just releasing this video. we just got it into our newsroom and it shows their strike team helping out. a short clip here but you can see the incredible amount of embers blown by the wind. it's just a glimpse of the conditions that those folks are dealing with. that strike team is one of several bay area crews down south. on a separate note, southern california edison which provides electricity just confirmed that state investigators are now looking into whether their equipment helped start that devastating fire and i'll be watching for any updates. back to you. we were told this security robot was supposed to guard against crooks.

i hope you like warm weather. natasha? mike, thank you. this video released of a man smashing the front door of a liquor store. police say the man then stole cigarettes and alcohol around 5:30 on friday morning. they're hoping someone will recognize him. in today's "gma first look" serious safety questions. here is abc's kendis gibson. >> reporter: the ntsb investigating this deadly school bus fire in iowa. >> there were people inside the bus unable to get out. >> reporter: 16-year-old megan clint and the driver donald hendricks unable to escape. megan's mother making the call to 911. >> it was her child and the bus driver on the bus. >> reporter: nothing could save the two inside. >> the driver and one student were unable to get off the bus. >> reporter: bus fires are not rare. we've seen plenty caught on video. there's on average one every day, more than 379 a year.

on crime and to build 100% affordable housing. the deal cost the city $15.5 million. acting mayor london breed said this was the last piece of legislation she discussed with mayor ed lee. the robot that patrols outside the spca's mission campus may be out of a job. according to bis journals they ordered them to keep canine off sidewalks or face $1,000 a day fine. the reason, the robot had been operating in the public right of way without a permit. the mission was to deter homeless encampments and crime by reporting audio and video 24/7 and send that go information to police. a former facebook employee is joining a growing chorus of critics who believe social media is detrimental to our society. he was a vice president before he left in 2011. he says facebook exploits vulnerability in human psychology and feels tremendous guilt over his work there.

here is a quote from the speech he gave to stanford business school. the short-term dopamine driven feedback loops we have created are destroying how society works. no civil discourse, no cooperation, misinformation, mistruth. facebook responded saying it's researching the impact on well-being and that mark zuckerberg is willing to decrease profitability to address the issues. some people are getting packages delivered late but in this case that's a good thing. the police department tweeted out these pictures of officers personally delivering stolen packages to homes. the officers wore santa hats and had some fun with the job. the packages were in bags discovered in bushes. after an investigation police say it appears everything was stole friend a mail carrier's truck and then dumped there. >> such a problem. that's lovely they're able to return the packages but, gosh, this did not used to be a problem when i was a little girl growing up in san rafael. now it happens all the time. >> once one person gets away

there. drivers are out on the side of the vehicle. so be real careful. this is, again, north 101 to north 680. >> sue, thank you. san francisco city leaders mourning the loss of mayor ed lee. there was an outpouring of tributes at the board of supervisors meeting. >> abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live outside city hall where the memorial for the mayor continues to grow. good morning, amy. >> reporter: hi, good morning, reggie. well-wishers keep stopping by city hall. look at all of the flowers they have left here for the mayor. there are some pictures, some candles, and some really nice notes talking about how much he will be missed. there are flowers inside, too. look at the mayor's office. it is full of flowers. his staff says it's hard to be at work when they are dealing with their grief, but they know the mayor would want them to be there and carry on with his mission. citizens who have stopped by city hall say they are glad to

legacy of service to others in chinatown. lee joined the asian law caucus as a young attorney in 1979. he spent 13 years crusading for people who are looking for a powerful voice. >> when he left law school he could have taken a lucrative job and instead took minimal wages to represent poor people. >> his early clients included public housing residents who went on a rent strike demanding basic amenities like heat and hot water. mayor lee also worked to help organize garment workers to make sure they were paid minimum wage. >> another legacy will be education. mark benioff shared a goal to create the next generation of silicon valley employees. mayor lee asked him to invest in public education. for the past five years middle schools in the city have received $26 million in funding from salesforce. happening today acting mayor london breed will appear at two public event.

to build tiny homes for the city's homeless residents. our media partner reports the city council has to decide on three possible sites for these small cabins. these are photos of an artist's rendering of the tiny homes. the structures would house 25 homeless people until 2022. the plan would eventually place a village of the tiny homes in each of the city's ten districts. a list of final sites is due by next month. last month pacific steel told its 70 workers it was closing after 83 years. according to the news website a surge in new orders has delayed those plans. pacific steel will now remain open until at least the end of march. union leaders say they have hired additional workers. pacific steel and other foundries have lost business to cheaper labor markets. 5:36. new details about the driver accused of killing a bay bridge toll taker.

documents indicate daniel berk made spontaneous comments that he drank alcohol and smoked marijuana before the deadly collision on december 2nd. the medics noticed he had constricted pupils. an officer said they detected faint odors of alcohol and marijuana on berk. the crash killed si si han at toll booth 14. she leaves behind a husband and young daughter. berk faces seven felony counts now including vehicular manslaughter. this morning republican roy moore is refusing to concede after democrat doug jones upset him in alabama's senate election. jones won by a razor thin margin of 1.5%. it's the difference of just under 21,000 votes and it trims the majority 49 to 51. abc news reporter maggie rulli is live in montgomery, alabama, with the latest. >> reporter: jessica, good morning. just one month ago a democrat winning a senate seat would have

seemed impossible but people here came out in near record numbers for the special election and they made history. tears of joy as the nominee for senate did the unthinkable, turned a deep red state blue. >> i think that i have been waiting all my life and now i just don't know what the hell to say. >> reporter: abc news projects jones to win the senate seat over roy moore. the republicans' lock was up-ended just 34 days ago when allegations of sexual misconduct against moore were made public including accusations of sexual assault against two teenaged girls when moore was in his 30s. moore has denied all allegations. while at least 19 asked him to step aside before the election he was backed by president trump. on twitter he congratulated jones saying the people of alabama are great and the republicans will have another shot at this seat in a very short period of time. it may be soon.
