live where you live, this is abc 7 news. a day aftered sudden death of san francisco's acting mayor, london steps into his place for her first full day on the job. thanks for joining us today. of course the city is still coming to terms with the loss of mayor ed lee. since that one day that has passed, barely any time, there is a growing memorial for him. abc 7 news was outside city hall this morning as well wishers stopped by to leave flowers for the late mayor. they're glad to see he's being remembered lovingly. full of flowers. his staff says it's hard to work during this difficult time, but they also know the mayor would want them to continue on with his mission.

the city has not released information yet about funeral arrangements. we will certainly keep you up to date. acting mayor london was supposed to hold her first public event today, but this time yesterday she was holding her first event inside city hall to address the city. today she was scheduled to talk about kurk homelessness, that event got cancelled. it wasn't the right time because the funding is part of ed lee's legacy. bree does have one other event she's expected to meet with the police chief bill scott at 1:30 this afternoon. now mayor lee was a big supporter of glide memorial church and it's programs serving people in need. abc 7 news was inside with the grocery giveaway. passing out food to homeless people in the tenderloin. each bag contains everything needed for a holiday meal. >> it is a problem that's getting worse, one in four people in san francisco are struggling to feed themselves

every day. >> this afternoon, glide will also deliver grocery bags to families in need in other parts of the city. the church will serve 4,000 people today. we have a lot more on the life and legacy of ed lee on our website, abc7news.com. we'll bring you updates on the news app. enable push alerts so you get the information as soon as we do. developing news in millbray where police are searching for suspects in a carjacking and police chase. officers responded to reports of a stolen car around 2:30 this morning. they chased a honda accord into milbray with speeds reaching 100 miles an hour. the car crashed through a gate at the green hills country club, and then fell into an embankment. >> everybody we have in custody seems to be okay. there is no nobody injured at the residence, nobody was injured along the way. overall, pretty successful pursuit for us. >> police arrested two women and a man at the scene.

more people may be involved. police are asking anyone with information to call 911. this morning, democrats are celebrating a victory after winning alabama's senate seat. doug jones defeated republican roy moore who had been dealing with sexual misconduct allegations. jones won by a razor thin margin of 1.5%, dangerous of just under 21,000 votes. it trims the gop majority in the senate 49 to 51. abc news reporter maggie ruly is in montgomery, alabama, with the latest. >> fighting all my life, and now i just don't know what the hell to say. >> reporter: for the first time in a quarter of a century, deep red alabama is sending a democrat to the senate. >> we have been cross roads in the past, and unfortunately we have usually taken the wrong fort, tonight, ladies and gentlemen, you took the right road. >> reporter: doug jones beats roy moore. riding a wave of support from african american voters, young people, women, and even from the

most unlikeliest of places, former lifelong republicans. >> i feel like holding my party to a better standard. >> reporter: we have shown not just around the state of alabama, but we have shown the country the way that we can be unified. >> reporter: the republicans lock on this alabama senate seat was up and bid just 34 days ago with allegations of sexual misconduct against moore were made public. including accusations of sexual assault against two teenaged girls when moore was in his 30s. moore denies the allegations. and blames them for his loss. >> part of the problem with this campaign is we've been painted in an unfavorable and unfaithful light. we've been put in a hole -- >> reporter: president trump tweets that the deck was stacked against moore and he knew the judge would have a hard time winning, but moore has yet to concede. >> wait on god and let this

loathsome human. later, fbi agent peter struck texted would he be a worse president than ted cruz? these kinds of comments were in center stage at a hearing on capitol hill today.today.today.. >> department of justice investigations must not be tainted by individuals imposing their own political prejudices. >> we recognize we have employees with political opinions, and it's our responsibility to make sure those opinions do not influence their actions. >> the agents have since been removed from the investigation. happening now, four fires continue to burn in southern california, but the thomas fire is the only one that is still a major concern. it is charred nearly 240,000 acres and is just 25% contained. santa clara county fire released this video of their strike team helping out last night. it's a short clip, but you can see the incredible amount of embers being blown by the winds. this strike team is one of several bay area crews in southern california.

happening tonight, the oakland unified school district expected to vote on $9 million of proposed budget cuts. this has been an emotional issues, parents, students, and teachers have been pleading not to make cuts. cuts would be spread across the system. nearly $5 million would be slashed from the central administration and more than $4 million would be cut in school sites. protesters are planning to march to the meeting at 5:30 this evening. so many people looking to finish up their holiday shopping lists, one san jose boy is collecting toys for others. chris told you about joey childs last year, abc 7 news reporter matt keller caught up again with the boy and why he's wanting to deliver ever more than before. >> reporter: at the bottom of the stairs of this will bow glenn home is the office of joey childs. 12-year-old toy collector. >> right here, about ten boxes. >> reporter: all of these toys -- >> we have 574.

just another second more. it's two orphan mountain lion cubs. they were taken in by oakland zoo. and this has been a long trip. both of these found in orange county, separately, two weeks apart. we're told one is pretty feisty and the other is actually pretty shy. and cautious. are they brothers? well, according to to the zoo, based on their ages and geographic proximity to each other, they could be related. dna tested will be conducted to determine if they are siblings. we want to thank the oakland zoo for sharing. bon jovi will lead the 2018 class of rock and roll hall of fame inductees. bon jovi made it after being shunned by hall of fame voters since the ban's first year of eligibility in 2009. also making it, singer nina simone, moody blues, the cars, and dire straits. the late gospel pioneer will be honored with the award for early influence. inductees are chose i by a vote
