we're getting a look at some incredible video from inside the volcano there in bali. the video is even more amazing because no one is allowed to be within six miles of that crater. about 140,000 people have been evacuated from the area. back here in this country, music m on ogul russell simmons is once again denying new accusations of sexual misconduct against him. three women have come forward to the "new york times" claiming simmons raped them. the los angeles times reports five different women are accusing simmons of sexual misconduct over a time on span of three deck a aids. simmons is calling the information horrific and says all of his relationships have been consensual. meanwhile, salma hayek has detailed some of the most

incriminating allegations yet against harvey weinstein, that he pressured her into a sexual encounter during the making of the film "frida" with weinstein even allegedly threatening to kill her. the op-ed triggered a response from a representative of weinstein saying, quote, he does not recall requiring her to do a gratuitous sex screen and that all the sexual allegations as portrayed are not accurate. and abc is yanking the great american baking show off the air over allegations of sexual misconduct over one of their judges, johnny izzini. at least eight of his former employees have step forward saying he sexually harassed and abused them. this season's winner of "the great american baking show" will be announced at a later date. it was an emotional exchange between two political rivals. >> it happened yesterday morning right here on "the view". meghan mccain broke into tears with vice president joe biden as they talked about his book

good morning. i'm diane macedo. >> i'm kendis gibson with some of the top headlines we're following on this thursday on "world news now." today is the anniversary of the sandy hook elementary school shooting. now some of those devastated parents are working to make sure it never happens again. today a controversial vote has the potential to change the internet. the fcc is expected to repeal rules that keep internet providers from slowing or blocking certain sites. another dramatic departure from the white house. the presidential aide and former "apprentice " star omarosa manigault newman is out. but sources say she was actually fired ands courted off the premises after clashing with other staffers.

and the marine corps is apologizing after a window fell through a class in okinawa. one childs was hit by flying gravel after the 17-foot frame hit the ground. those are some of our top stories on this thursday, december 14th. from abc news, this is "world news now". >> we say good morning, everybody. we begin with the somber anniversary, five years since the unthinkable shooting at sandy hook elementary school. >> the nation was stunned when a 20-year-old gunman opened fire at newtown, connecticut school killing 20 innocent children and six adults. the heartbroken parents have found different ways to channel their grief and some have turned to activism. abc's amy robach paid them a visit. >> reporter: in the immediate aftermath of the shooting a storm of outrage was felt across the country. many called for regulations to curb gun violence. >> we are killing each other. >> reporter: saying that the loss of so many young, delicate lives --

>> beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. >> reporter: -- must lead to change. >> we're going to have to come together and take action. >> reporter: momentum seemed to be moving toward gun control. first, a push to renew the ban on assault weapons. >> together we are introducing legislation. >> reporter: then a bipartisan bill introduced requiring back ground checks on all commercial gun sales. but five months after the devastation and fury of sandy hook, these efforts were defeated. >> a minority in the united states senate decided it wasn't worth it. >> ever since the attack at columbine, people have been looking for what they call a profile. and, really, there is no such profile. >> he told some of us that his dad kept a gun in his closet. and he always talked about using it on, you know, the people that bullied him. >> reporter: those warning signs front and center in sandy hook's promised new psa, featuring a hypothetical shooting in the future. >> someone has expected to tell us that the shooter has been posting on social media.

jones to congratulate him even though he had supported moore. jones narrowly won by 1.5%. but it's not close enough to trigger an automatic recount. still, moore says he's awaiting a final count. he posted a video message to his supporters overnight. apparently blaming his loss on the sexual misconduct allegation he faced leading up to the election. >> immorality sweeps our land. baseless allegations have become more relevant than the true issues that effect our country. >> election officials in alabama say there's no reason to question the results. they are expected to be certified by the end of the month. and republicans are one step closer to getting a tax bill on president trump's desk by christmas. gop leaders in the house and senate believe they have reached a compromise and are expected to vote next week. abc's richard cantu has more on how it may affect your family.

ink. >> the republican tax bill is one that ebeneezer scrooge would love. it is a big bah humbug. >> democrats are hoping republicans wait until doug jones from alabama is sworn in. >> proceeding with this tax bill will be a dramatic, dramatic death knell for the republican party in 2018. >> reporter: the pressure is on for the gop to pass the bill before they lose that key vote. richard cantu, abc news, new york. u.n. ambassador nikki haley is expected to have some sharp words today about iran's compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal. haley's office says she will offer irrefutable evidence that iran has violated its obligations under the deal and has tried to cover up those violations. haley's statements come as the u.n. investigates whether iran sent weapons to its rebel allies in yemen.

it's unclear if the trump administration will seek to punish iran for any alleged violations of the bill. there was an apparent murder suicide at a penn state campus near pittsburgh overnight. authorities say a man lured his ex-wife to the campus parking lot saying he had christmas presents for their children. after a brief conversation, we're told he opened fire. both died at the scene. no students were involved in the shooting. and long-time talk show host tavis smiley has been suspended by pbs following allegations of sexual misconduct. smily posted a video statement overnight saying he is shocked by the accusations. he also denies ever groping, coercing or exposing himself inappropriate to any colleague. he says it is an overreaction by pbs who he accuses of conducting a sloppy investigation. he's promising to fight back. but it is unclear if that means filing a lawsuit. and morgan spurlock has gone public calling himself part of the problem when it comes to sexual misconduct. spurlock is best known for his tlim about mcdone al's called

"super size me." he posted a long statement online revealing his own misconduct in the workplace. he was accused of rape in college and settled a sexual harassment allegation with a colleague about eight years ago, he says he's now getting treatment. abc's parent company is expected to make it official today, a megamerger to combine disney with much of 21st century fox. disney is expected to pay $60 billion for a large portion of rupert murdoch's media empire. the purchase of fox's media assets will help with disney's planned launch of its own streaming services. fox news channel is not part of the deal, that means it may not be completed for at least a year or so. now 2018 will bring a pay-tv service from t-mobile. it's making the move thanks to the acquisition of leer three tv. it's for people who hate the cost and service of traditional tv providers. there is no word on what it will cost or how it will be delivered. >> thank for watching. >> lots happening.

with two dozen people on board crashing in rural canada. the west aviation flight went down shortly after taking off from northern saskatchewan. some of the scenes we're seeing now. no one died but some passengers were injured. the cause of the crash being investigated. a texas mother has been arrested after her son reportedly had more than 300 unnecessary hospital visits and 13 surgeries that also were not needed. kaleen bowen wright is charged with injury to a child. her 8-year-old son christopher was on a feeding tube, confined to a wheelchair and even spent time in a hospice. doctor thes and investigators say that little boy was never ill. the boy's father said that arrest is long overdue. christopher is now in foster care. now to that police body cam video out of grand rapids, michigan sparking a lot of outrage, including from the city's police chief. >> officers on the hunt for a murder suspect ended up handcuffing a 11-year-old girl

that all americans have insurance, which could lead 13 million more americans without insurance in the next deck a aid. and to help the wealthy, it lowers the top individual tax rate from 39% down to 37%. how does that help the middle class americans? >> this bill is going to lower the tax burden on working families, on middle income families and it's going to trigger economic growth. >> reporter: a new analysis predicts it could add more than $1.5 trillion to the nation's debt. and a previous analysis of the senate version said americans making $75,000 or less will pay more over the next ten years. democrats insist the long-term benefits will go to the wealthy. >> most of what's there for the middle class is written in disappearing ink. >> the republican tax bill is one that ebenezer scrooge would love. it is a big bah humbug. >> reporter: democrats are urging republicans to slow down and wait until the new democrat from alabama, doug jones, is sworn in. but the pressure is on for republicans to pass this before

omarosa has resigned from the trump administration. and in dramatic fashion, of course, her last day is supposed to be january 20th. but sources say she was actually fired and then escorted off the white house grounds. she was the communications director for the office of public liaison. and she was one of the most high-profile african-american staffers in the administration, but she reportedly clashed with aides, including chief of staff john kelly who limited her access to the oval office. and this morning she'll be on "good morning america" with an exclusive interview with michael strahan. a kentucky state lawmaker facing sexual assault allegations has died from an apparent suicide. the coroner says dan johnson died from a single gunshot wound to the head. johnson was a republican and church pastor. he denied accusations that he assaulted a 17-year-old girl in the basement of his home in 2013. state leaders from both parties

called for his resignation. on wednesday, he posted a message on facebook asking people to care for his wife. he also added that, quote, heaven is my home. and blame canada for a major storm system set to hit the midwest and northeast with snow and frigid conditions. the system, called an alberta clipper, is expected to bring low temps and high winds for a stretch of michigan into new york. some areas could also see as much as ten inches of snow. >> and outside flint, michigan, heavy snow led to a pair of rollover crashes. in one case, a semi-truck jackknifed and slammed into the median. the driver was taken to the hospital. wasn't clear how badly hurt he was. now visibility dropped to less than half a mile in some areas as well. >> meanwhile in detroit, a sidewalk plow looked more like a snowmobile doing donuts on the street. check that out. there's a lot of snow when the plows can't even get good traction. >> the plows can have fun. okay.
