been this dry lately. >> some parts of the bay area, have received only 1% of normal rainfall so far this season. spencer christian is here with a look at how much tonight's storm is going to change that. >> as you can see, we have areas of moisture moving through the bay area right now. the steadier rain is up north. over the last three hours, it's been moving in the typical northwest to southeast fashion, that will be its movement as it swings down into the bay area, later tonight. once again, let's revisit those percentages. normally this time in december, san francisco would have had about 2 1/2 inches of rain or more. so far this winter, san francisco has received 2/100 of an inch. most bay area locations are 1% of average for this point in the season.

we expect it to produce about under 2/10 of an inch of rain for most locations. it will be accompanied by strong gusty wind. i'll give you a closer look at the storm and where it will rain where you are. >> a good reminder to keep track of the changing weather app. can you monitor the forecast on the go. >> we're learning more about a san francisco police officer who killed himself at the shops at hilltop, after richmond police pulled him over yesterday. the officer himself was under investigation for allegedly molesting a child from a family that he knew. abc 7 news reporter vic lee has the story. here in this neighborhood near the hilltop mall in richmond.

monitor the trains right there. that's what they're going to be doing. let's move forward. caltrain is installing ptc right now at a cost of $230 million. >> the hardware is already in from san jose to san francisco. now they're testing the system. it's designed to prevent human error by taking controls automatically, when it senses danger. >> let's say the train is going beyond the designated speeds. the -- i guess the system would kind of go into overdrive and kick in. >> congress ordered all u.s. rail lines adopt this technology after a train crash outside los angeles in 2008 killing 25 people. the engineer had been texting. the deadline for installing the ptc was 2015, but was extended to 2015. once it's installed it will not

four teenaged suspects in a flair attack will face seven charges. they kohl three charges each of felony arson. the most extensive damage was shattered windows. tonight morgan hill police are crediting an involved citizen for helping them catch three suspects in connection with a home invasion shooting. police were treating the victim, they got a call.
