camera. a crystal clear night but with a clear night comes some of the coldest air we've felt in some time. i'm kristin zee. you'll probably need your jacket when you head out the door tomorrow morning. >> a live look right now from our mount tam camera out over the bay. get to meteorologist sandy battell who is tracking the first night of winter. sandy? >> dan and kristen, we're going to be in for a bone chilling cold morning. it is already 28 degrees in nevada. fairfield is down to 30 degrees. so already below freezing and you know this is not even the coldest point. we are on our way to a very frigid morning. we have freeze warnings covering all of the bay side and inland communities from 1 to 7:00 a7::0 tomorrow. coastal areas under a frost advisory. widespread freezing temperatures.

them with cloths so frost doesn't reach them. donations of sleeping bags, socks, jackets and other supplies would be appreciated. in the east bay, abc 7 news. and we have breaking news in antioch right now. six structures burned tonight in multiple locations. take a look at that. most happened on west magill street. three boarded up abandoned homes and two out buildings and a commercial building on a street also caught fire. arson investigators are also on the scene but nobody was hurt. tonight hundreds braved the chilly weather in san francisco's chinatown for a candlelight vigil to honor the late mayor, ed lee. some in the chinese community were offended by two things that happened ♪ this little light of mine, i'm going to let it shine ♪ >> reporter: candles lit the

apologizes if any of her comments regarding the mayor, which were intended to be heart felt and warm, offended anyone. >> i'm not going to comment on charlotte. she misspoke. she loved ed. >> mayor lee's closest friend, gordon chin, said this was to honor the mayor everyone loved. >> they're coming together. the entire community that ed lee supported, ed lee loved. >> reporter: in a city where he will never be forgotten. in san francisco, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. santa rosa police are looking for a suspect in a stabbing at lowela's market on t ton avenue. a 61-year-old man had a severe wound to his neck. they released this image of the suspect. the victim and the suspect had been sitting at different tables but they never spoke to each other. the victim's injuries are said

to be life threatening. the san francisco symphony has severed ties with world renowned conductor charles dutoi. the 81-year-old conductor was scheduled to conduct the san francisco symphony in january and april. in a statement today the symphony said the move was made due to a zero tolerance policy due to sexual harassment in the workplace. a man arrested and accused of mailing homemade bombs to two homes, including one where a police officer lives. abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow. >> reporter: neighbors on mountain view avenue say they were stunned to see s.w.a.t. teams converge on this home last night. >> guys jumped out with the guns and everything. i said, oh, god. >> came out to take the garbage out and the whole street was covered with police. >> reporter: officials arrested 56-year-old ross laverty.

this is laverty in a mug shot from 2015. a federal criminal complaint charges laverty with mailing an explosive device. law enforcement officials with knowledge of the investigation say they recovered evidence from the home on mountain view avenue last night. >> when i seen that up there last night i said, not in this neighborhood. we don't do those kind of things up here. >> according to the charging documents laverty released an i.e.d. in palo alto. veronica maldanato's father opened the box with damage to his ears. >> he held it at a distance and that's when it really exploded. >> reporter: then just this past month laverty is accused of mailing another i.e.d., this time to a police officer in alameda. the devices and packaging were similar.

officials linked him to the crimes from dna evidence they say he left behind on the batteries he used in the impt e.d.s. when investigators entered the dna into a database it resulted in a match with laverty's dna since he was already a convicted offender. he appeared in federal court today. he remains in custody. his detention hearing is scheduled for next week. it could take up to a year for an oakland hills street to reopen. fire at a construction site destroyed four homes and damaged a retaining wall supporting a stretch snake road near armor drive. the hill side gave way leaving the paved rote without proper structural support. a detailed report is expected by the city at the end of january. the fight for charles manson's body has turned into a circus. more than a month after manson died people from florida, wisconsin, illinois and

that winter fest is officially underway from 400 kids from silicon valley. >> i'm very excited because it's my first time being here as well as it's christmas time so i'm very happy and excited. >> i love to be representing the club. it's important to me. >> reporter: the kids were treated to dinner, then turned loose in the park for roller coaster, ice skating, pictures with santa and his helpers and all things holiday. ♪ ♪ >> reporter: this is the second year of winter fest, 353 trees, 750 lights and snow. the snowmaking winter fest a true winter wonder land for the kids. >> a lot of kids have not been to great america even living in silicon valley. it's a treat to be able to attend a park like this. >> we feel like we have the makings of an incredible holiday tradition in this area. we're proud to do it. >> reporter: the kids and their family are proud to be a part of

it. destiny as a part of it as a junior staffer. >> i'm excited she got this opportunity and something she will remember for the rest of her life. >> reporter: so many wonderful winter memories. in santa clara, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. abc 7 news spoke with two santa fe firefighters who had dinner with rob lowe at his home. >> they were part of a strike team fighting the flames in santa barbara county. check out lowes instagram photo of just how close. these are pictures of how close the flames got to his home. >> he was so thankful he invited the entire crew inside for some burgers, spaghetti, chicken and salad. >> i joked with him because he told me how many twitter followers had and i told him he needed to work on getting more followers like the kardashians have. he was laughing about that. >> he said thanks.

tower there. just a glorious mix of colors. tonight we don't have much in the way of cloud coverage, just a few high clouds. we're not going to be insulated. here's a look at your highlights. we are in for a freezing cold morning with some frost. milder days this upcoming weekend, and we are looking dry through christmas day, possibly through the end of the year. right now i want to show you a live picture. the winds are light and you can see a beautiful view of the bay, but because the winds are so light the temperatures under clear skies as you look at live doppler 7, they are dropping. they are plunging. 28 degrees in nevada. bone chilling cold in fairfield. 30 degrees already. people are actually reporting that they can feel it. now sfo is 45 degrees as you'll notice right now. when you compare nevado to some of the midwest cities, it's colder than cleveland, chicago, detroit right now here in

nevado. definitely feeling the change in the air. winter has arrived. arrived this morning. you're going to feel it tomorrow morning. it will be icy out there. please be careful. temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. fairfield, you will notice. livermore down to 28 degrees. you're going to be below freezing in concord. right above freezing in san jose at 33. san mateo, 43 grease in san francisco and 43 in half moon bay. saturday morning you'll still have a chilly morning as you'll notice. some of those temperatures will be near freezing inland. not so cold sunday. temperatures start to rise and that, of course, will continue. a milder morning for your monday as we start to see more upper 30s as opposed to 20. now wood burning is banned for the next three days. unfortunately you're going to have to use your heat. can't burn the wood, it is illegal. you have a spare the air alert. moderate air quality is expected

the next three days. tomorrow afternoon temperatures in the low 50s to low 60s. a cool winter day on at that point. traveling to tahoe, expect cold winter mornings. 40s for the afternoon. clouds will be around. does not look like a white christmas for those folks up in tahoe. the good thing is at least it will be great travel weather heading up to the mountains. traveling up the state, you're good to go. 52 in eureka area. down south, los angeles and sunny. nationally expecting snow across the pacific northwest, northern rockies and across the northeast. some rain from the mid-atlantic to the south. otherwise, it is looking like a pretty quiet pattern for your travel day on friday. accuweather seven day forecast, cold and frosty start tomorrow morning. morning chill followed by a milder afternoon and the temperatures will continue to climb as we head towards christmas day. it will be milder, upper 50s to mid 60s.

they scored the jayhawks first 10 points and finished overall with 24. the jayhawks rolled to victory 75-54. struggling cal hosting very dangerous portland state. the vikings third in the nation. they averaged over 90 a game. you can't turn it over, which cal did and they did a lot. jamie ormick got it up and under. another steal. behind the back off the steal. he had 20. cal 16 turnovers in the first half. portland state scored 31 points off of all of those give aways. brice tv -- women's hoops. brittney mcphee, the only cardinal in double digits. 27 points here. nicely done on the reverse. stanford with 15 turnovers and they paid for that. jamie nard had 15 steals.
