now from abc 7, live breaking news. >> good morning, that breaking news out of san francisco. we just received these document the, it shows the fbi stopped a man, they say, was planning a christmas terror attack at pier 39. let's get right over to abc 7 news anchor jessica castro. jessica, you've been looking at the documents. this is stunning. >> yes, stunning. i've been looking at the documents. we received them minutes ago here into abc 7 news. and that man was planning an attack on pier 39. i want to show you a live look from sky 7 at the pier, of course, a very popular area with tourists, especially right now as people crowd into the city for the holiday. now we've learned the fbi has arrested a man by the name of everett aaron jamison from

modesto. they say he wanted to target pier 39. according to fbi documents, jamison picked out that location because he had, quote, been there before and knew it was a heavily-crowded area. adding that he would easily be able to funnel people into a particular area where then he could inflict casualties. and as for pier 39, abc 7 news has contacted them, we have asked them for a response, but they actually did not know about this plot, in fact, we informed them of the arrest. obviously, the story is developing right now. what i'm going to do is i'm going to continue looking at these charging documents, aisi' going to be back here, reggie, in a few minutes as soon as we have a better update, more information to pass along to our viewers. of course, stay with abc 7 news and be sure to follow us with our abc 7 news app. >> jessica, we'll be checking in with you later. thank you so much. our other top story, the cold weather. meteorologist drew tuma in for mike nicco today.

let's get over to him for the latest on this cold snap. >> yeah, reggie, we had the freeze warn rg in effect earlier this morning that's been allowed to expire. temperatures are slowly warming at this ohour. in fact, we have this picture taken from william in san francisco, a frosty morning, see on the grass the dew that has frozen into ice particles. it's been that chilly this morning in the 20s and 30s to start. right now the temperatures are slowly warming. still a chill in the air out there. see widespread 40s out there, currently hayward at 50 degrees, san jose at 51. sutro tower showing you the golden gate bridge in sunshine right now. once the sun goes down, once midnight in the 30s and 40s. we'll have the full forecast in the accuweather in a few minutes. new this morning abc 7 news was in hayward, a fire sent an elderry couple to the hospital. the fire started after 2:00 a.m. in the back of the home. it was near the kitchen and the

flames wiped out that part of the house. they're lookin into reports someone was cooking and left the stove on. we're told the couple had minor smoke inhalation. contra cost ra investigators are looking for an arsonist in antioch. six structures burning last night, broke out at two separate locations. three abandoned homes and two outbuildings caught fire. a commercial building on "a bt bt stre street also burned. amy hollyfield live for us in antioch where people are understandably nervous this morning. amy? >> reporter: hi, reggie, damage like this is starting to become common around here. down the street, the flower shop was on fire earl yer this week. now this week here on "a" street. it has everyone here wondering, what, where, and when will the next fire happen? >> i'm outraged. this is the third time that actually this building has been set on fire. >> reporter: rob strickland couldn't believe it when he heard this building was on fire. again. overnight in antioch. the cremation services company already had to move locations

because of previous fire damage, but there was hope of maybe rebuilding. not anymore. look at this picture of last night's fire taken by contra costa firefighters. this one was big enough to destroy the place. this wasn't even the first stop for firefighters last night. they were half a mile away dealing with another fire on madill street when the call came in to go to "a" street. >> all told, we have three residenti residential structures here on madill street in antioch, two outbuildings associated with this address as well. then a commercial structure on "a" street a few blocks away. >> reporter: firefighters say this many fires this close together at around the same time doesn't look like an accident. >> fire investigators who are looking into the causes of the fire at this point, but we do believe all the fires are likely set fires. so we are investigating them as arsons. >> reporter: rob strickland is frustrated that so many h fires have happened in antioch and no one has been arrested. >> there have been numerous fires here in antioch, and they

just -- they just keep going and thoeb's doi nobody's doing anything about it to stop it. >> reporter: the fire marshal tells me they are aggressively investigating these fires. he kept his overnight investigator on through today so he has two today working instead of the usual one. in the hopes of making some headway on these cases. at this point, they don't know who is doing this, and they don't know the motive. no arrests have been made. reporti ining live in antioch, hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. new at 11:00, president trump signed that new $1 trillion tax bill into law. the president signed the legislation before taking off for florida to start his christmas vacation. here's abc news reporter kenneth mouton. >> reporter: president trump florida bound for the holidays, big $1.5 trillion tax bill signed into law. >> i was going to wait for a formal signing sometime in early january then i watched the news this morning and they were all saying will he keep his promise, will he sign it by christmas? i called downstairs, get it ready, we have to sign it now.

>> reporter: the president is looking ahead to the new year tweeting at some point and for the good of the country, i predict we'll start working with the democrats in a bipartisan fashion. infrastructure would be a perfect place to start." >> there's a huge difference between a legislative victory, and a political victory, so he's put a lot of yards on the field and he's got a lot of first downs, b but for political purposes he hasn't accomplished that much. >> reporter: last night congress averted a government shutdown passing a short-term measure to keep the lights on at least until january 19th. lawmakers punted critical issues until the new year. spending caps, deciding the fate of undocumented immigrants brought to the u.s. as children, and stabilizing health insurance markets. >> we're going to be looking for areas of bipartisan agreement because that's the way the senate is. there are only a few narrow exceptions as all of you know to that principle. >> reporter: the children's health insurance program, schi. p, provides health care to 9 million children, now funded through march. alts in limbo, the house approved an $81 billion

emergency disaster aid package to help victims of this career's hurricanes and wildfires. the senate didn't take a vote. president trump also signed a $1 billion missile defense bill. the president will spend christmas and bring in the new year with his family at his south florida resort, mar-a-lago. kenneth mouton, abc news, washington. bay area airports crowded as holiday travelers are making their way for the long weekend. abc 7 news reporter matt keller live at sfo with what's happening tomorrow. matt? >> reporter: reggie, i just checked flightaware.com, it shows there are 58 delays here at sfo so far today. that's not too bad. we all know it could be a lot worse here at sfo. that's for sure. this is the seventh busiest airport in the nation during the holidays and today it's not going to dis appoiappoint with lines and crowded terminals. getting three kids out the door before 6:00 a.m. can be quite a challenge, but the wells family is going to mexico for christmas. so they didn't want to risk missing their flight at sfo. >> they woke us up pretty early

because we wanted to beat the lines. >> we're glad we did that, the lines are pretty big. traffic's pretty significant out front. >> reporter: the cars stacked up outside while the lines stretched down the terminals. sfo is forecasting 164,000 travelers going in and out of the airport today, making it one of the busiest days of the holiday season. >> we tried to get here really early, we thought it would be really crowded and we were right. this is the most crowded i've ever seen it. >> reporter: research from the travel app, hopper, shoes t sho busiest time of the day at sfo is 7:50 a.m. >> check your boarding pass? >> reporter: no matter where you fl fly, you're going to land into a busy airport. hopper says 3.1 million passengers are scheduled to travel from the u.s. today. a record high. missing a flight can mess with your holiday plans. especially if you want to make a good first impression. >> you're doing something pretty exciting this holiday season, what are you doing? >> just going to see my fiancee. >> reporter: you're meeting the parents for the first time? >> yeah, kind of crazcrazy.

>> reporter: good luck to ricky there. something new at sfo this holiday season, domestic garages are free for 30 minutes for quick drop-offs and pickups. hoping to cut down on the traffic here at the curb. reporting live at sfo, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you. developing news, santa rosa police looking for the than who stabbed another person inside a restaurant. here's a photo of that man. investigators say attacked a 61-year-old man at lola's market on cuttdutton avenue last night before 6:0. the suspect got up from his table, walked to where the victim was sitting, stabbed him and ran off. the two never spoke to each other. the victim's injuries are said to be life threatening. take a look at these sir investigation photos. that man is accused of grabbing a woman's butt and taking off in berkeley. police say it happened before 9:00 in the morning on 9th street near heinz avenue on december 10th. investigators are just releasing these photos hoping someone can now identify him. the state is pressing

insurers to cut north bay fire victims more slack. in october, insurers agreed to provide victims 25% of their personal property coverage without requiring them to fill out a detailed inventory. the state now wants that bumped up to 100%. that's according to the "press democrat." the move comes after increasing complaints from victims who feel the process is too time consuming. in sonoma county, alone, policyholders filed property claims totaling $7 billion. starting january 1st, no more free rides. b.a.r.t. is going to require you to show them proof of payment inside the paid area of stations and onboard their trains. here are the warning signs saying this is coming. passengers should be prepared to show either a magnetic strip ticket or a clipper card with valid fare. there's going to be a one-month grace period when violators will be warned instead of cited. and then after that, $75 fines for adults, $55 for minors. community service options will also be available. we are staying on top of

>> yeah, been looking at this paperwork, i should say, this document we just obtained from abc 7 news a few minutes ago, and we know that this man was planning an attack on pier 39. as we take a live look here from sky 7 at pier 39. now, the man under arrest is named everitt aaron jameson from modesto. he picked out the location because he, quote, had been there before and knew it was a heavily crowded area. and i also want to get you some new information. jameson said he was inspired by the new york terror attack on october 31st on halloween. you'll recall a man drove into a crowd of people on that day there. and the documents also say jameson was posting and liking pro-isis and pro-terrorism content on facebook. jameson was talking to an undercover fbi agent and was arrested earlier this week. a search wasrrant was executed

big story. police arrested a man in connection with homemade bombs sent to two bay area homes. this was a story abc 7 news first broke yesterday. neighbors were shocked to see s.w.a. t s.w.a.t. teams converging on a home in mountain view avenue in oakland wednesday night. officers arrested 56-year-old ross laverty. investigators linked dna evidence linked behind on batteries used in the devices to him. one of the devices was sent to an east palo alto home. veronica maldonado's father opened the box and suffered injury to his hands, stomach and ears when it went off. >> when he did so, he held it at a distance and that's when it really exploded. >> a federal criminal complaint charges him with mailing an explosive device with the intent to injure or kill. san jose sacred heart services toy drive could still use your help. today is the last day to donate. organizers say there are still about 1,500 toys shy of their

weather worries across the western half of the united states. where we do have our weather maker, so to speak, a front moving through the mid-atlantic and the northeast from d.c. to new york, up to boston. rain and snow showers can be expected there. to start off the weekend. perhaps you're headed to tahoe, unfortunately not forecasting any snow showers. however, it will feel seasonably cold. by christmas eve into christmas day, we'll see mainly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid to low 40s. back here at home on christmas day, we're rain free. it's a dry sky. we'll see mostly cloudy skies by noon, we'll see temperatures mainly in the 50s and by 4:00, a few degrees above normal for this time of the year. we'll see temperatures in the upper 50s to mid 60s on monday. so here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. let's put it all together, plan the next seven days for you. do notice it's a partly cloudy sky on the way for your friday. by saturday, it's chilly in the morning but we do warm up rather nicely in the afternoon. it's upper 50s to lower 60s. by christmas eve and christmas day, mainly cloudy sky.
