on christmas day. >> abc 7 news lonnie rivera is live at pier 39. are you seeing more security there? >> i have noticed in the last couple minutes a coast guard patrol officer coming around with a dog every couple hours near the tree. but in terms of business, as you can see, it's business as usually despite this place being an alleged target for terrorism. saturday holiday fun goes on as pier 39 after the fbi foiled a planned terror attack. >> when i looked at my phone and saw that it said there's a threat of this terrorist at pier 39, i'm like, oh, my gosh, we're here. >> trish sha johnson was friday when she learned of the

plot. everitt jameson planned to stage the attack around christmas. he's now in jail. >> you can't get rattled when this happens. this is our country, this is america. >> some visitors noticed coast guard and more security staff. >> i trust in the security i've seen around here. >> according to a federal criminal complaint, everitt jameson had radical jihady beliefs. his family members in modesto are in shock. >> i can't explain it. it's not my nephew they're talking about. >> online is where an fbi agent was alerted by jameson' dialogue. a takeaway the fbi hopes others will take notice to this terrorism. >> life goes on, but it certainly begs more caution and introspeculation than it has in previous decades. >> everitt jameson has a hearing

that's set for january 5th. his attorney says his client plans to plead not guilty to any charges against him. live from pier 39 in san francisco, lonnie rivera, abc7 news. meantime, a fire damaged part of a building under construction in san francisco. abc7 news was in the tenderloin where crews fought the flames at mason and eddy street. the fire department says the building was commercial and reasonab residential and people were able to get out safely. the fire damaged a business. the thomas wild fire burning in southern california, all the mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted. it was the largest wildfire in california

crews reached 65% containment. the flames destroyed just over one thousand buildings. a celebration of life was held today for a firefighter who died while battling the thomas fire. cory iverson died of burns and smoke inhalation last thursday in ventura county. set up to help the family. gunfire rang inside a bowling alley. santa clara sheriff's deputies were called to homestead bowel and the x bar at 10:30 last night. deputies say one person was shot in the leg and they found two guns at the scene. investigators are asking anyone with video or information about the shooting to contact authorities. happening now, thousands of people trying to get home or visit family for the holidays. find themselves trying to beat a nasty winter storm hitting more than 15 states. abc news andy field has a look. >> a winter storm stretching from texas to maine is making life difficult for millions of americans driving to their christmas destinations. >> icy conditions not just in boston, but also the rest of the

sam haskell leaves after outcry from the public. the organization suspended him from the role yesterday. e-mails leaked publicly show top officials demeaned the appearance, intellect and personal lives of former winners. orders are coming in for a tradition that some consider little pockets of love. we're talking about tamales. abc news was in west oakland today where sales were brisk at tamal tamales restaurant. you'll hear no complaints from the chefs. >> i think it's a blessing to be able to share the traditions with people because we're keeping them alive. these are prehispanics traditions. >> there's no agreed upon reason

abc 7 news was at the most of the clubhouse in mountain view were children of military families were treated to christmas cheer and a lot of toys. the nfl alumni's northern california chapter brought santa and the toys to the kids. it can be especially hard for children from military families during the holidays if one parent is deployed. so organizers wanted to help. >> that's what it's all about, smiles on the kids' faces at christmastime, who otherwise would not have toys. >> we see so many smiles there.

a few thousand toys were distributed today. abc 7 news was in richmond where the holidays will be merrier for many families thanks to the police and fire departments. 75 families took home foods for christmas dinner and more than 400 bikes were given away. >> a lot of people aren't able to, you know, do for their kids. it's all over the bay area, so it's a good thing. >> for many families in richmond the yearly giveaway is essentially. visitors heading to the golden gate bridge face restricted parking on both sides of the bridge. there are limited spaces inside the bridge lots. they are meant to ease the backup that's common during the holidays. officials recommend visitors use ride shares or park in overflow

there is a storm system in the pacific right now. as it approaches, the high pressure is going to rip it apart. unfortunately we're not going to see rain from that storm system, just an additional cloud cover in the sky for christmas day. chilly inland in the 30s. similar sky like we have out there today. temperatures in the afternoon will be chilly, only topping out in the mid-50s, so a little bit below normal if this time of year. 57 in san jose. 56 in napa. it will have haze in our atmosphere. spare the air is in effect for sunday. poor air quality in the north bay, along the coast, and inland as well. you notice monday air quality improving for christmas day. a lot of cloud cover on christmas. we have dry skies. upper 30s to lower 50s. by 4:00, temperatures in the mid-50s to lower 60s.
