it's sunday, december 24th. good morning and thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen in for carolyn tyler. let's take a first look at the forecast. this is lisa argen with doppler 7. good morning, lisa. >> good morning. as you'll notice we have some green here on doppler 7, but unfortunately this won't all reach the ground. we could see a few sprinkles here and there, but this is associated with a larger system that's dissipating, and it will move in throughout the bay area today, keeping the clouds with us, but sprinkles are possible, but not everyone will see them. 45 in livermore, little 50 in sapphi, it's 50 in san francisco. most of you to near 50 in the next hour. mid-50s by noontime and it pretty much stays that way throughout the afternoon. a brighter-looking christmas.

we'll have a look at the last week of the year coming up. chris? >> police are investigating a shooting outside of a bar that left one man dead and two others injured in vallejo. it happened around 11:45 last night at dumpy's tavern on york street. investigators say a 43-year-old man was killed. a 22-year-old mwoman and a 38-year-old man were wounded. their injuries do not appear life threatening. police do not have suspects in custody. thieves are getting creative this weekend. san mateo police are warning last-minute shoppers about a spike in car break-ins this year. melanie woodrow explains. >> reporter: with not much time left to shop -- >> last minute. it's crazy. chaos. >> reporter: is it really bad? >> it's not that bad. the line was long but it moved fast. >> reporter: it seemed there were bigger concerns this year than last-minute shopping crowds. san thmateo police are warning

shoppers not to put belongings in their trunks. there have been a number of trunk break-ins here at bridge point shopping center. >> it's not fun. especially during the christmas season. >> reporter: he had advice from authorities, carry all your purchases from store to store. >> it looks like fun, but not so much in real life. >> it's terrifying to think i can't just run into toys r us real quick, take things to the car, run into target without being terrified. that's terrible. >> there are a lot of people out there that are desperate, right? it's sad and scary. >> reporter: police say despite active patrols, they want shoppers to be extra vigilant. >> for me right now it's literally nothing in the car. nothing in the car. it's not worth it. >> reporter: in san mateo, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. federal express said windy weather friday night at its massive air hub in memphis has interrupted its flight network.

they are alerting customers about potential delays. some packages that were supposed to be delivered yesterday have not arrived yet. but fedex said most deliveries should make it on time before christmas. for last-minute shoppers, no doubt about it, it is crunch time. but most stores are there to help. here are some options for those procrastinato procrastinators. >> reporter: on this christmas eve morning, the final push to get those presents under the tree. >> i'm still doing last minute, would you believe it? i thought it was done. >> reporter: procrastinators, don't panic. there is at least still one on-line option. amazon offering same-day delivery for prime members if you order by 9:30 a.m. today. >> it's run by technology and made as efficient as possible. that's how we're able to get items to people's doorsteps in about an hour or two. >> reporter: a village of unlikely last-minute elves spreading that christmas cheer. ups is using marketers and other

professionals to deliver holiday shipments. for fedex, a short-term setb with wind grounding their planes in memphis. but systems are running well, and they expect to make deliveries on time. >> i was working until last friday nonstop, and since i rested since then, i decided to come out and get everyone's present now. >> reporter: as for the 60% of holiday shoppers hitting the stores today, there is still time to score deep discounts. >> turn to the apparel stores. a lot of the sale items are discounted up to 60%. >> reporter: if you can't get to a store, amazon music unlimited is getting new prescribers three months for just 99 cents. and nearly $250 billion in returns were processed last year, so if you're waiting until last minute to do your shoppin, maybe gift cards are a good

option. abc news, new york. back here in the bay area, a three-month-old baby riding bart with her family died after suffering a medical emergency. the infant fell ill yesterday afternoon at the pleasant hill bart station. the girl was taken to john miramar medical center where she passed away. there is no indication of foul play. this morning a vow not to let fear win after word that a popular tourist spot in san francisco was the target of a terror plot. a former marine is now in jail accused of hatching the plan to attack torres at pier 99. >> reporter: saturday holiday fun goes on at pier 39 after the fbi foiled a planned terror attack at the san francisco destination. >> i looked at my phone and saw that it said there is a threat of this terrorist at pier 39, and i'm like, oh, my gosh, we're here. >> reporter: trisha johnson was visiting pier 39 friday when she

learned about the alleged plot. fbi agents say 26-year-old everett aaron jamison, an ex-marine, planned to stage the attack around christmas. he's now in jail. >> you can't get rattled when things like this happen. this is our country. this is america. >> reporter: some visitors noticed coast guard patrols and more security staff. >> there are inherent dangers in everything we do, so i trust in the security i've seen around here. >> reporter: according to a federal criminal complaint, everett jamison had radical jihadi beliefs and terror posts. his family in modesto are in shock. >> i can't explain it. it's not my nephew they're talking about. >> reporter: an alert was put out by jamison's dialogue. they hope others take notice by this kind of radicalism. >> even though it was an fbi informant that alerted the fbi, any kind of tip could have come from the public.

>> reporter: he has an arraignment scheduled january 5. his attorney says his client will plead not guilty to any charges held against him. lonnie rivera, abc 7 news. governor brown has granted pardoned to two men who were to be deported for committing crimes while in the u.s. both men were picked up during federal immigration raids in october. 42-year-old mony neth of modesto and rottanak congress, 39, of davis were set set set set set t yesterday. several people helped catch a robber blocks away from fisherman's wharf. the suspect tried to run away with a victim's camera. a good samaritan tripped him. two of our coworkers then restrained the suspect until

police arrived. both victims had just arrived in san francisco from australia. one of them hurt his shoulder. happening today, san francisco's glide memorial church will serve thousands of people a special lunch for the holidays. the house of prime rib donated 3700 pounds of meat for the day along with salad, mashed potatoes, bread and dessert. the lunch runs from 10:30 until 1:30 at the church on ellis street. there are also morning celebrations in the sanctuary and the next one starts at 11:00 a.m. lisa argen is here tracking the cool air out there. >> it's 10 degrees cool erin land than it is on the san francisco bay. 45 degrees from mt. tam. you can see all the gray. a spare the air alert today. plenty of cloud cover. a front is not too far away from us but it won't offer much in

here's a live look from norad tracking santa claus. right now he's dropping presents in bangor, mumbai. the air space command is in charge of protecting air space, but it doesn't mean they can't have a little fun. that tradition of tracking santa began in 1955 when a child called the continental air defense command, that's the predecessor of norad. the community updated the child and that's a tradition that continues today. after cigarette taxes were raised earlier this year, convenience stores in the central valley are now seeing a spike in crime. thieves are stealing cartons of cigarettes. our sister station in fresno has more on the heist that's turned into a brutal encounter. >> reporter: surveillance video shows the moment the suspect

dives behind the cash register, the beginning of a 10-minute struggle inside cavalier liquor, all for 150 cartons of cigarettes. >> punched him, hit him, sprayed him with some sprays and stuff. they also had a taser. zip-tied his hands. >> reporter: lieutenant david madrigal has found that the most sought-after item is cigarettes. now that they praised the price, suspects know they're a good value and easy to resell for cash. >> in this incident they never touched the cash register at all. >> reporter: cigarettes were also taken during a deadly midnight robbery on ma two men were arrested on charges of homicide. despite the serious injury to the clerk in the latest cigarette theft, he was an observant witness and able to help police solve the crime.

>> he described it as scary, doesn't know what's going on, but the good thing was he was able to recognize voices and their body movements and stuff to help identify the people and get them caught. >> reporter: detectives recovered 35 cases of cigarettes at a home just two blocks away from a liquor store. a man and a woman were arrested for the crime, and the female gave police a full confession. officers believe the pair scoped out the mini mart the night before and figured out where the cigarettes were stored. in fresno, abc 7 news. a reason to smile this morning for a north bay family that's been through a tough past few months. they have a new temporary home just in time for christmas. abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington has the story. >> reporter: it's not christmas. it doesn't feel like christmas at all. >> reporter: the holiday season has been tough for the swann family. keira, cody and their trip let daughters lost their home in

my heart is just so touched. >> the uso provided this video. taprador expects to be home for at least the next nine months. hundreds of kids now have new bikes they can pedal around the city, all thanks to santa and his helpers in the fire department. they were inside the toys r us warehouse in san francisco when the new bikes brought smiles to so many faces. two of the new bike owners told us where they plan to ride. >> to the store. >> maybe to the park -- i don't know. >> i grew up in the mission district. didn't have a lot, single mom, so we just want to give back, make sure every kid has toys and just, you know, fun stuff. >> the kids also received free helmets to wear while they ride their new bikes, and they also made friends with firefighters and toy program volunteers. final orders are coming in

the cavaliers. at 5:15, the raiders versus the eagles. now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> good morning to you. pretty hazy out there. another spare the air alert. a cool morning on the way. it's been pretty cool this morning, and we need a change in this weather pattern. last year at this time, we had triple the amount of rainfall, so we are falling well behind, and december is not lookin too promising. so as we look at the highs, what are expected in livermore for the week ahead, you probably have an idea we'll have more sun and dry weather. today the coolest day at 55 with a lot of cloud cover. then look what happens, we get some sunshine, and numbers bounce back up to above-average readings. the wind kind of flat out there. a little breezy right here on the water. but overall we'll have light winds today and temperatures just in the 50s. so it will be a cool and cloudy afternoon as this weather system sits awfully close to us, but we
