on peralta oaks court. that's where all the officers gathered. we saw probably two dozen chp vehicles and another dozen or so from the alameda county sheriff's department. and they gathered solemnly with very few words spoken. there was a hearse that arrived, probably a half-hour earlier. we saw the flag-draped casket of this officer loaded into that hearse. and then that procession just left the coroner's office. it is headed to tracy with the body of andrew cammalleri. he leaves behind a wife and three children. press the tracy. he went to merrill s. west high school. he worked for a time for a pest control company but then just in the past couple years, decided to follow his dream to become a chp officer. that's what he did. he's been on the job just over a

year. and unfortunately, this terrible thing happened on christmas eve, just before midnight. it is our understanding, from both the chp and the alameda county sheriff's department, that his body will be taken to a local memorial chapel in tracy. at that point we're told the family, the local church, both the officer and his wife were very active in the church. the mission city church west did speak with the past or there today. arrangementes are being made by the family to lay this officer to rest. unfortunately, the procession started just as we're seeing rush hour traffic in oakland. it could take some time. probe an hour or so before they arrive in tracy. >> all right. thank you very much. laura anthony reporting, following had procession along,

for the officer killed on christmas eve while looking for impaired drivers and apparently killed by an impaired driver. a bell toll ceremony will take place tomorrow to honor him. it is a centuries old law enforcement tradition to honor officers killed in the line of duty. it acknowledges their end of watch. that begins at 11:00 a.m. >> we have been hearing the stories of kindness and generosity. one man wrote, i work at the raily's in tracy and knew andrew camillori. he was a really cool dude. we would have conversations every time he came into the store. in the last week, he opened up and told me he was a chp officer. i could see in his eyes how much he loved it.

i remember my last conversation with him on december 23rd, when we talked about drunk drivers this time of year. before he left, we both wished each other a merry christmas. i told him to be careful out there. he turned to me, smiled, gave me a thumbs up and said thank you. ironically he would be killed the very next day. as people express their condolences, we've created this badge in his honor. you can share it from our abc 7 news facebook page. in other news, a dead whale turned up on the shore on christmas eve. marine biologists believe it is a 30-foot long male humpback. there was a team there today to perform an autopsy and after that, they should be able to confirm the whale's species and cause of death. a few high clouds today, as you can see from our east bay hills camera. >> a beautiful sunset.

erie is up to 58 inches. the national weather service says it is the greatest two-day snowfall in pennsylvania history. in the midwest, bone chilling temperatures are making headlines. this image captured in duluth, minnesota, it shows steam rising over lake superior. the temperature was a minus 21 degrees with a windchill of minus 44. >> girls wanted to go ice skating. we tried but it is really cold. >> i have to bear the cold. >> it was the coldest for portland since 1864. some big crowds in san francisco's union square. a shopping district with big name, high priced stores has smaller businesses closing up shop. londoni rivera is there live with why so many store fronts have those signs.

arrested two teenagers for swiping a laptop from an elderly person inside' starbucks. officers watching the parking lot near san pablo saw the theft last friday. that led to a car chase. a short distance away, the teenage suspects ended up crashing their vehicle. they were arrested. police were able to return the laptop to the owner. >> san francisco is joining a federal lawsuit against the department of defense which accuses the department of failing to report former military members who are not allowed to own guns. city attorney dennis herrera says the d.o.d. has failed to report they will for decades. that comes after the november shooting that killed 26 people. a gunman was court martialed in 2012 after being convicted of assaulting his wife and son. he wouldn't have been able to buy the weapon used in the

christmas eve looking for dangerous drivers when the chp said one of those drivers, who they say was impaired, slammed into an suv and he was killed. right now his body is being escorted back to tracy where he lived with his family. many chp officers and others are in dublin again on their way to tracy. all honoring officer andrew camilleri killed sadly on christmas eve. just a few minutes before midnight christmas day. we'll continue to follow that procession. let's move on and change subjects. we'll talk about football. as the regular season comes to a close, it is hard not to get swept away. fans are ecstatic after a late season surge with jimmy garoppolo at the helm. but timing a jimmy g jersey is not easy. >> throughout the bay area, fans

we are dry and in the 60s. but one major change to the forecast, especially new years eve and new years day. the potential is there for a storm system. i say potential because we have two very reliable weather models. first we look at the european model. it is a very wet model. rainfall estimates, this is sunday into monday. it would have this system completely drenching our area. you can see areas over an inch of rain. very welcome news. december has been very dry across the region. however, our other computer model completely different. the american model showing you the same time frame from sunday into monday. completely dry across the region. keeping that storm system well to the north of our region. so we'll get several new model runs in. some new information over the next few days but there could be
