sue? >> let's check around. we have a couple issues out there. back to the bay bridge toll plaza. we are experiencing holiday traffic patterns. that's good news if you do have to work. roadways are pretty clear. even our commuters out of tracy are looking pretty good. a problem with debris near the coliseum. southbound 880. chp will have to do a traffic break. it's apparently a blownout tire. and now traffic near university, right lane blocked. a traffic break there to get things cleared out of lanes and that should be resolved soon. >> sue, thank you. >> this morning an investigation continues into a deadly crash involving a tech company commuter bus in mountain view. >> it happened in play mouth near the google offices. matt keller is live for us in mountain view. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, natasha and jessica. this is a very busy road here

especially during the commute hours. the police investigation is over, and the road is now open in both directions. take a look at the video from the scene last night. now this is at the intersection of shoreline and play nout near the google campus. police say a motorcycle and a white commuter bus crashed after 6:00 last night. several people rushed to help the motorcyclist, but he was unresponsive. >> as i was on the phone with 911 people started swarming over to him to try to assist him, to move him. when they moved him it looked as if it was a fatal accident. >> reporter: the bus is registered to a commuter bus company. police haven't said if the bus had passengers onboard. a google spokesperson issued a statement saying we are saddened to learn of this tragic incident. our thoughts are with all of those affected by this tragedy. the identity of the motorcyclist has yet to be released. matt keller, abc 7 news.

union city police want you to be on the lookout for a man who has gone missing twice now in two days. take a close look here. officials say he has limited cognitive memory and was reportedly missing tuesday and was found wednesday. that night police issued another missing person bulletin saying he had escaped again in dublin. police did not say why he was in custody. he is not familiar with the area and is considered to be at risk. new details for the man involved in a fatal stabbing. 39-year-old was caught on video last week shortly before stabbing a 61-year-old man in the neck. police found him around 7:00

p.m. last night. they are investigating what led up to the stabbing. a donation site shut down prematurely because of repeated attempted break-ins and vandalism. it is located downtown. there have been three incidents. the site opened up in october to help families with children. volunteers packed up all the donated items yesterday and plan to ship them to other donation sites. a would-be arm robber got a knot on the head after a fast food customer hit him with a chair christmas day at a wendy's in yuba city. a man named daniel was eating an early dinner when he saw something and then he did something. >> i noticed this guy walk in. he had a yellow plastic bag on his head. at first i thought it was a gag and then i noticed he had a knife in his hand, cut in front of the line and walked up to the window and said give me the

you'll be enrolled to receive any safety information in san francisco. las vegas is also tightened up security for the new year's eve celebrations after the mass shooting in october that left 58 people dead. snipers will keep an eye on the crowd on the famed las vegas strip. there's a list of banned items. revelers will not be able to bring bottles, large bags, backpacks or strollers and double the national guard troops on duty. 300 of them will assist las vegas police. san francisco's moving forward with plans to develop authorize safe injection sites for drug users. >> they would provide safe places with clean needles and a trained staff. san francisco has 22,000 injecting drug users. injection sites in canada and europe have been shown to help prevent overdose deaths. funding and legal issues are hurdles to creating safe sites. the city could save $3.5 million because of reduced health care

costs. health officials are developing policies for the program and will report to the board of supervisors in march. san francisco also fighting drug abuse with another drug. training is under way to treat drug overdoses in the main library. a man died after overdosing in the bathroom at the library. librarians a trained to administer the drug. >> if it happens in the library, librarians are there. they're first on the scene before emergency responders. it makes sense we would have it. >> it reverses the effects of opioids almost immediately. thursday morning, live doppler 7. clouds over the bay area, and they are limiting some of the fog development in the south bay. we have that stubborn fog in the north bay. petaluma, santa rosa and the

>> reporter: this is one of the most important roads, highway 101 links to san francisco airport. caltrans in its first ever vulnerability assessment report tied to climate change. the storms did $1 billion in damage to the state's roads and highways. $250 million of that in the bay area. the mudslide repair to this stretch of highway 35 in the santa cruz mountains cost $10 million. caltrans is working with other agencies to start planning for even more challenges in the future. >> we've just now with about 19 actual agency partners really looked at some of the data that has been accumulated. and so the next step will be to address how we can do that addressing of the impacts to our roadways. >> caltrans is looking at pavement to withstand hotter temperatures. other areas of concern due to

storm surge and rising tides. about 110 miles of roadways and bridges are vulnerable. caltrans plans to do similar assessments for all 12 across the state collaborating with the u.s. forest service and other agencies that are studying and evaluating climate train. certainly the bay area is vulnerable because of its low-lying terrain and because of its proximity to the bay. in san bruno, david louie, abc 7 news. investigators are still looking into that deadly amtrak derailment in washington state. and this morning a look at newly released 911 a decision the national park service made keeping dog owners happy. we want to you have a better day. here is a feature only on abc 7. weather and traffic on the commercial

survived by his wife, five children and many grandchildren. new details about the deadly amtrak crash last week in washington state. some 911 tapes released and one caller's voice, listen to this, was full of fear. >> where are you at? >> i'm physically on a train. >> we're going to get help, i promise. >> is anybody in the car you're in hurt? >> yes, a lot. >> difficult to hear that. investigators are still trying to figure out why the train was going more than double the posted speed limit as it entered a curve where it left the tracks. three people died. in today's "gma first look" a frightening incident that took place as the houston astros celebrated their world series victory. >> why one of the coaches almost died.

one year. a federal appeals court in san francisco made the decision. the ruling says the epa's delay in setting new rules on when lead paint and dust in older houses are a clear threat to human welfare. the epa must propose new rules in the next three months and come up with a final rule one year later. good news for dog owners, the national park service officially has withdrawn plans to make new rules for dogs on leashes. a notice posted says they have terminated the plan. this comes after the decision in october when the park service said it would stop plans to expand on leach areas in marin, san francisco and san mateo counties. >> if you're taking out spot or fido this morning, you probably need the extra jacket. >> it is so cold. low to mid-30s again. we're probably used to this rue even and it continues today. live doppler 7. visibility is reduced. san francisco, points east and south doing fine.

46 trains on schedule. larkspur ferry continues. i've tweeted that out. ace train number one is running on time as is ace train number three getting ready to leave the central valley. the suspect accused of plotting a christmas terror attack at pier 39 is expected to make a second court appearance. ex-marine everitt aaron jameson is scheduled for a hearing at 2:00 this afternoon in fresno. a preliminary hearing is set for january 5th. investigators say he was inspired by isis. jameson's attorney says he will plead not guilty to any charges. security for new year's eve in san francisco expected to be tight. >> yes, and as always thousands are going to watch the fireworks along the embarcadero. amy hollyfield joining us live. good morning, amy.

no credible threats but that doesn't mean they'll be letting down their guard. russian president vladimir putin is talking about the recent explosion in st. petersburg. he spoke today at a military awards ceremony at the kremlin. putin called it a terrorist attack. it took place at a supermarket. 13 people were injured. investigators say the bomb was rigged with shrapnel to cause more damage. no one has yet claimed responsibility. >> jess, thank you. developing news in the south bay, police investigating a deadly shooting in san jose. a man shot and killed last night on van winkle lane just off story road. investigators have released few details about what led up to the shooting, but we know it happened just before 9:00 p.m.

so far no arrests have been made. police do not have any suspects in custody. mountain view police are investigating a deadly crash involving a motorcyclist and a tech commuter bus. the crash happened just after 6:00 at the intersection of north shoreline boulevard and plymouth street right near the google campus. witnesses say several people rushed to help the motorcyclist but he was unresponsive. police have not yet identified him. a google spokeswoman said, quote, we are saddened to learn of this tragic incident. our thoughts are with all those affected by the tragedy. new details this morning about last week's deadly crash on interstate 880 in oakland. the alameda county coroner's bureau has identified the victim as 24-year-old chavez junior oakland. he died after his car collided with a fedex truck. the driver was uninjured and cooperated with authorities. chp tells us the case remains under investigation. >> homeowners are scrambling to prepay their property taxes for next year.

>> they're hoping to save thousands of dollars before the new tax law signed by president trump takes effect on monday. taxpayers from higher tax states including california are trying to take advantage of deduction that is will soon disappear. it limits deductions for state and local income and property taxes capping them at a combined $10,000. the irs says to qualify for the extra deduction this year property taxes need to be paid and assessed in the year 2017. and that means anyone paying taxes on estimated assessments will probably be out of luck. republican roy moore is trying to stop officials from certifying democrat doug jones as the winner there. moore filed a lawsuit claiming there may have been voter fraud and that there should be now a new election. jones defeated moore by 20,000 votes earlier this month and in

a statement moore also said he passed a polygraph test about his alleged sexual misconduct. he said that the results show he did not know the accusers or have any sexual contact with them. the fbi says investigation noose sexual assaults on flights have gone up. only 38 in 2014. this comes after a cnn report that claims several passengers complained of misconduct and flight crew did little or nothing to help. cnn reports flight attendants may not know how to respond when confronting the behavior. with the cloud cover we are chilly. plenty of 30s and 40s. the dew points are low. temperature and dew points just not happening in the north bay.

santa rosa a half mile. a little bit over the bay bridge and it's going to clear hopefully sooner than yesterday. as high pressure builds in that works to build us up. 34 in danville. 35 in san ramone. we're looking at 37 in lafayette. temperatures closer to the bay, low 40s. still, yes, that's cold, and the fog to the north, upper 40s in san francisco and pacifica. if you're doing some sightseeing, getting on the ferry, it will be nice with the light winds. caution in the north bay. in the south bay, wow, temperatures climb to the mid-60s after a chilly start. allowing for more 60s than 50s today. another nice afternoon.

and then tomorrow we even get a bit warmer. yes, it still is unusually dry around here. sue, anything happening on the roads this good morning. at the toll plaza very light traffic conditions. those right-hand cars there slowing just a little bit to pay cash. the left-hand lanes are the fast trackers. a look at some of your drive times. highway 4 is moving at the limit all the way into concord from antioch. a straight shot across the bridge and traffic is moving well, about 20 minutes or less all the way into the city. listen to this new story

coming in. we are just hearing about how a group of teenagers helped rescue a man who fell down an embankment in the south bay. it happened just after 12:30 on hicks road in santa clara county. the group of eight say they saw a light flashing across from them as they were driving. they pulled over and found the they pulled over and found the man with the broken leg. >> this guy has a broken leg and i told them where we were. after that she sent units out and was asking me questions about his condition. where on the leg, if she's bleeding, different things like that to maintain contact. >> and the man who took the fall fell about ten feet. firefighters say the man is lucky those teenagers spotted him and helped him out. it's time to start recycling

country this morning. the national weather service warning wind chills on the east coast and midwest could make temperatures feel below zero. international falls, minnesota, dropped to 37 degrees below zero yesterday morning. erie, pennsylvania, residents dug out from the more than five feet of snow. >> it's freezing. i feel icicles are hitting my face right now. >> we're drowning in snow. >> driving is treacherous. more than 40 accidents in kansas city alone. the coast guard was hard at work breaking ice in green bay. the number of law enforcement professionals nationwide who died in the line of duty in 2017 dropped to its lowest level in four years according to the nonprofit group that has long tracked officer fatalities. the 128 officer fatalities in to 17 represents a 10% decrease from last year.

of those deaths 47 were traffic related. 44 were from shootings. a concord man is in jail this morning accused of a violent rampage. police say he tried to run over a man, crashed into a store and attempted to choke a k-9 police dog. this happened on tuesday. police say 37-year-old david tried to run someone over but missed and instead crashed through the market. they say he then ran off. that led to a short police chase. concord police say he then got out of his car, yelled at officers to shoot him and then tried to choke and punch a k- officer. new parents and people caring for sick relatives can take more time off work starting on january 1st. a new law expands the state's family leave bill. employees will now get up to 12 weeks of leave to care for a newborn or adopted child.

barack obama, as i mentioned, number one, donald trump second, pope francis, reverend billy graham and senator john mccain top out the five. elon musk came in sixth. the top five most admired women hillary clinton for the 16th straight year followed by michelle obama, oprah winfrey, elizabeth warren and german chancellor angela merkel. a sheriff's deputy decided not to give a panhandler a ticket and as a result he has changed that man's life. michael myers used to be a truck driver but then was injured. now he's homeless and panhandles at the intersection of foothill and maddux in hayward. a deputy saw him every single day and finally instead of giving him a citation decided to talk to him first. >> he does it three times a day. he's panhandling to stay alive. he's panhandling to stay alive. >> you can't go on doing this.
