it happened late this afternoon. in a wells far go bank in redwood city. tiffany wilson is live outside the bank with new details on the investigation. tiffany, what a story. >> absolutely. officers just cleared the scene behind me about five minutes ago. this all started with a very observant woman driving to the atm. she noticed a man pacing back and forth with a gun in his hand. she called 911. >> reporter: this cell phone video shows what happened next. officers quickly circled the suspect and started talking to him. >> the man was just not

compliant at all. >> reporter: interim police chief says the 30 year-old hispanic man was agitated. unstable and well known to officers. >> they have known him him him m was eight years old. >> he was asked to drop the gun repeatedly. seven minutes of negotiations that ended when the suspect shot his weapon. lock closely at the video. we slowed it down. and you can see the suspect raise his arms and fire. >> he fired his gun i don't know how many times. >> reporter: officers returned fire. >> they shot the dude. >> reporter: none of the officers were injured. the suspect was killed. he's a soldier. he expects gunfire on the front lines not near his front yard. >> i didn't expect a shooting. i thought the guy was going to comply and arrest him.

it escalated quickly. >> reporter: the suspect had an extensive criminal past. he says the woman's call to 911 may have prevented the suspect from robbing someone at the atm. >> it adds suspicion to why he was there. with a gun. pacing back and forth. >> reporter: district attorney office is investigating the shooting. >> the water off drake in point is off limits to people after shark atalk today. a surfer was bitten on the foot by a shark near the mouth. the national park service closed the area to surfers and swimmers this afternoon. the victim was helped from a bookstore nearby and recovering from the attack. a grieving law enforcement community said its final good-bye today. to a fallen chp officer at a memorial service in stock ton. officer camilleri lost his life

christmas eve. after a suspected drunk driver hit his patrol car. >> reporter: music and memories fill the life center on stock ton. where hundreds of law enforcement officers some as far as colorado and texas. came to honor fallen officer camilleri. a man who loved his job. >> whether it was being able to help a disabled motorist. issue a citation. to a speeding driver. >> his flag draped casket was escorted by fellow officers. he died in the line of duty when his patrol car was struck by a suspected drunk driver who was later arrested. his partner was injured in the crash. his emotional tribute brought everyone to tears. >> i know you can hear me. i love you buddy.
