two gunshot blasts to celebrate the new year pending hurting to to people. a warning to anybody who celebrates using a firearm. good evening, i'm kristen sze. dan ashley and a ma dates are off. police are looking for the people who fired those shots. one woman in san lee an dro was hit. cornell bernard talked with police and a witness to one of the shootings. >> four, three, two, one. [ cheers ] >> a new year's eve toast at this backyard house party, a guest captured this video at-mile-an-hour wind where the sounds of rapid gunfire can be heard in the distance. >> everything going fine, and

then we heard some gunshots like this. >> this man hosted the party. one woman was grazed by a stray bullet on her lower body, but she didn't realize she was injured for several minutes. >> she didn't care too much. and then she went to toilet and she see the injured. she got bleeding. >> her injuries didn't require medical attention. a bullet was later found on the patio. police say it likely came from someone's celebratory gunfire at midnight. >> sounds like she could have been feet or inching away from being critically struck. >> around midnight police say they got several 911 calls reporting gunfire from that location. that's about a block from the new year's eve house party. police a running a ballistics test on the bullet found, but they admit they need tips from the public. >> if someone calls in with the right lead, we'll pursue it and hopefully find the person that discharged the gun last night and bring that person to just e justice. >> the warning comes from police

every new year's eve, but it's often ignored. >> she was lucky. >> a scary start to the new year. abc 7 news. happening now a historic streetcar has derailed after colliding with a truck. it happened at 3rd and mission streets around 8:30 this evening. the streetcar was on the way back to the barn when the accident happened much muni says the traffic made a turn in front of the streetcar and ended up on its side.ide.ide.ide. bus shuttles untare running unt it clears. two pedestrians were hit today and a car with a family inside. the accident hut down 21st avenue and geary for several hours this evening. lilian kim has details. >> oh, my god. my adrenaline was totally rushing. >> heather king and her family had the scare of their lives

with a delivery truck slammed into their car in the richmond district. >> the door got smushed in. >> all five family members were okay, but two elderly pedestrians on the sidewalk were injured. police say the driver lost control crossing geary boulevard. >> as soon as i saw my kids were okay, they weren't dead, like, i got them out of the car and ran over to see the guy that got hit. >> there a pedestrian, a 79-year-old man is in critical condition. he underwent surgery for internal bleeding while a 66-year-old man is recovering from a broken rib and punctured lung. police detained the driver while waiting for a cantonese translator. police say the driver of the truck was here on 21st avenue when he entered geary boulevard. according to what officers could tell from security video, the light was red. >> it appears he was speeding

but we can't tell by the video. but we believe it was against the red light. >> a somber start to the new year in the richmond district. police are looking for the driver who hit and killed a woman crossing 98th avenue in oakland this morning at 5:00 a.m. the car just kept driving southbound, leaving the scene of the accident. the driver hasn't been identified. police closed the intersection to conduct an investigation. the first day of 2018 has something in common with the last day of 2017, and that's a spare the air alert. it will be the 18th one this season. spare the air makes illegal to burn wood or fake logs outside or inside unless it's your only source of heat. the bay area air quality management district says smoke from one fireplace can pollute an entire neighborhood.

a team from the in it southbound is en route to costa rica to investigate while a charter flight cashed after takeoff. the twin engine turbo prop went down yesterday in guanacaste 130 miles northwest of san jose. nine of the dead are members of two families. bruce and irene signberg and their three sons also killed. mitchell and leslie weiss of tampa, florida, and their son and daughter. >> you never want it to happen to somebody you know. and they were a good family. >> the tenth american was 33-year-old amanda geissler, a travel guide from wisconsin. the crash also took the lives of the costa rican pilot and copilot. but commercial reached a safety zone.

there wasn't a single fatality because of any crash anywhere in the world according to the flight safety association. it excluded cashes with military, cargo, intentional and acts charter flights such as one in costa rica. it's safe to say this was nobody's new year's resolution to get stung by a sting ray. but that's what happened to people in huntington beach where there's been a sting ray invasion lately. our sister station in los angeles has more. >> for the past 18 years, surf city splash was a fun way to kick off the new year in huntington beach. but this year, the numbers are down and concern is up. >> they're sweeping the sand right now, so that it'll be clear of sting raise. >> 75 people for
