santa clara firefighters were fighting the fire at a huge plant. >> reporter: the flames were huge when the santa clara firefighters arrived at the storage yard on matthew street just after 1:30 this morning. stacks and stacks and stacks of cardboard piled 15 feet high were burning. the only response for firefighters, lots and lots of water. >> the cardboard bails are densely packed together. when they burn, it is really hard to penetrate into the hottest spots. >> reporter: once the fire was knocked down, firefighters used thermal imaging to find the hot spots. nine employees were working will the fire started. they are all okay. when they will be able to return to work is up in the air. firefighters say a fire like this one took place several years ago and caused millions of dollars in damage. and when you see the storage yard in the daylight, you understand why.
