now, from abc 7, breaking news. >> the police say they made an arrest of a suspect. this is video of a man police were looking for in connection with tuesday morning's attack. and more information will be available tomorrow, but an arrest has been made. good evening. >> our other top story is the weather. looking live at live doppler 7, right now, you can see the green starting to creep over the bay area. let's get used to it. >> yeah, a live look from the bridge cam, wet roads, and had not too many cars. the rain could make your drive longer than usual tomorrow. >> let's check in with sandy. what are we looking at? >> scattered showers tonight, as we are in between storms. take a look at live doppler 7, i

freezing waters. just brutal, south of boston. ice and an ice machine were seen floating around. that is what you are looking at there. now, people are bracing for record breaking cold air. >> reporter: the east coast taking a beating from mother nature. the powerful nor'easter dumping up to three inches of snow an hour in the region. some areas hit with lightning. thunder. and even flooding. in boston, fire trucks waded through flood waters making rescues. in new york, mail trucks and buses were slipping and sliding. driving conditions so treacherous, police kept busy pushing stranded drivers. . >> it's coming down so fast, you are not able the to clear, so, underneath, it's getting real icy and you have people out here that shouldn't be out here

it's wet. the east coast storm and our storm here could impact you if you are flying tomorrow. you will want to watch abc 7 morning starting at 4:30 a.m. for the latest on conditions at airports and on the roads. >> it's the rainy season and flu season. it's already bad here in the bay area and expected to get worse. >> that is right, there's no restrictions of where people are allowed to go in the south bay. we have the story now from santa cruz. >> reporter: the flu season is early. >> we have seen serious cases and we have had cases in the intensive care unit at the hospital. >> reporter: they expect it to get worse. >> we are really concerned that as the flu spread that there will be a significant amount of mortality and deaths as a result. >> reporter: no flu-related deaths have been reported in santa cruz county so far. this flu season is so severe,

the hospital here in santa cruz is restricting visitation. >> the person i'm seeing, i don't want them to get it so, you know, we understand why it's such a huge necessary thing. snoo in santa clara county, at least four people have died from the flu since the season began and the health department reports there's been five outbreaks this past week, eight total. the assistant health officer said that prevention is key. and that means the flu shot. >> we know the vaccine will make it less likely to get the flu, if you get the flu, it is less likely you will end up in the hospital and die from the flu. in prevention. >> wau wash your hands, cover your cough, and stay home if you are psick. >> a uc berkley student was arrested while visiting his

girlfriend. he is a transfer student. he and his girlfriend were on their way home from a party when he missed a turn and ended up in an immigration checkpoint in san diego county. he is being detained in a temporary holding cell. he came from the u.s. from columbia as a child and over-stayed his visa. well, sad to report, a person was killed when two cars collided in vallejo. after the first collision, the two cars can sma -- two cars, s to another car. police have not said what caused the crash. >> a total stranger entered a north bay home early this morning, after taking a garage opener from an unlocked car and he then sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl. we have the story from rona park where neighbors are stunned.

>> my heart goes out to them, especially that little girl. >> reporter: the neighbor cannot stop thinking of the 8-year-old girl that fought off her attacker early thursday morning. the 21-year-old broke in to the home, stripped naked and climbed on top of the sleeping girl in her bedroom t child's mother called 9-1-1. >> she heard her daughter screaming and when she went in the bedroom, the suspect was gone, but there was evidence left behind. >> reporter: the suspect ran off without his clothes. police will not say what other evidence was left, but it was enough to track him down in a home in santa rosa, where he was arrested. >> i hope he gets what is coming to him. because, it just shouldn't happen. >> reporter: he got in the house by finding a garage door opener inside a unlocked car inside the driveway. police say the girl and her family to not know the suspect. >> we feel like, based on the, just the screaming and the actions of the young victim, that a tragedy was averted.

this. >> it's a particularly nasty type of e. coli. >> dozens of others have been sickened in canada. authorities identified romain let th lettuce as the source of the outbreak. for 94, it is asked that gench get -- for now, it's asked that everyone get rid of the lettuce. it's the first time that consumer reports has issued a report before the fda and cdc. >> it's unusual, we have never been in the situation before, where, a foreign government that we share a food supply with has warned its citizens. and the u.s. government is not doing it. >> at the foods, some customers had second thoughts about their salad selection. >> i think i will put it back. >> this man was warned about buying romaine.

saratoga, we are seeing wet roadways and in the north bay, forest nflt oles, seeing moisture. are you ready for a soaker? stronger storm will move in here early next week. it looks like it will dump rain in the bay area, helping the rainfall deficit. speaking of a stronger storm. look at the powerful storm battering the northeast. they have seen everything from ice to snow, blizzard conditions, flooding rains and mixed precipitation behind the system. they are going to deal with bitterly cold conditions going in to the weekend. >> mild in comparison to the northeast. we have 50s, 60s in terms of our temperatures and visibility not so great. in concord and fairfield, about 2-2-1/2 miles due to fog. watch out, here is a look at the morning commute.

let's take a look at a live picture from the abc 7 news camera. it's cloudy. fog and rain in the morning and wet for the rest of the friday. dry pattern and a level two storm coming in early next week. the current system going in to tomorrow, it's a light one. level one. scattered showers will give way to rain and moderate rain tomorrow. hour by hour we go. commute starts at 5:00 a.m. you will notice a few showers in the east bay. and the steady rain up around mendocina county, and by 7:00 a.m., it's sliding around the north bay. widespread rain -- rainfall totals not impressive. at this point, we will take any

storm we can get. a few hundredths of an inch in livermore, and san jose and about to a half in santa rosament. and .6 of an inch in half moon bay. allow the extra time tomorrow morning because of the fog and don't fret the umbrellas. you will need them in certain parts of the bay area. afternoon highs will look like this. upper 50s to the mid 60s and today, san jose was a record 70 degrees. it's going to be cooler tomorrow. doesn't feel like january, that's for sure in san jose. accu weather seven-day forecast, rainy, breezy, level one system on the storm impact scale for the friday as we head in to the weekend. you get a chance to dry out, which is critical. we have to prepare for the next storm arriving monday, a level one, turning to a level-2 on tuesday. wet and windy. cooler weather, snow in the sierra early next week and a slight chance lingering in to wednesday. you can download the accu-weather app. >> thanks,
