live, where you live, this is abc 7 news. a storm is soaking the bay area tonight. live doppler 7 shows heavy rain that is about about to let up. >> that rain is expected to continue through the night, into tomorrow. >> taking a live look at san francisco. more than two inches has pelted the city. that's the most in three years. >> rain has swollen bay area waterw waterways. ties creek is looking like rapids tonight. >> and the bay bridge is slick. >> the winds are also a problem. a tree came crashing down on to a muni bus in san francisco's financial district. luckily, no one was hurt. >> we have live team coverage from the north bay to the south bay. >> first, let's get the fro

forecast. >> this is a storm that's not in a hurry to move on. as a result, we're getting drenched across parts of the bay area. we'll start off in san francisco. fulton street, mission street, getting pounded by heavy rain right now. oranges and yellows from pacifica to millbrae, to san mateo. it is coming down in the santa cruz mountains. a storm report with some debris flow, not out of the question. from the south bay, los altos, sunnyvale, santa clara, getting a soaking. and in the east bay, they are getting drenched more than they were earlier. oakland to piedmont, emiliville, berkeley getting a soaking there. and in the north bay, burn scar areas are holdi inin ining up o. but there's pockets that we're keeping an eye on. as you go up north, moderate

rainfall. on the storm impact scale, this is a strong level 3 storm. rain will be heavy and flooding is possible. it will be gusty in the hills along with parts of the coastline. flash flood watch until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. mudslides, debris flows and flooding is possible. we have a wind advisory until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. gusts can reach 30 to 40 miles per hour. trees and power lines could go down. it is gusty out of the southeast, to 27. i'll come back with an hour-by-hour timeline of how this is going to play into your morning commute, coming up. >> thanks a lot. right now, there's serious pothole problems on major bay area roadways. abc 7 news was on highway 101 ovr palo alto. the lanes could remain closed through the morning commute. >> there's deep potholes on

northbound 880 that are driving tires. work is under way to patch the potholes. one lane is closed. >> a lot of wrecks out there. abc 7 was near golden gate park where a car rolled over. it was near 36th avenue and lincoln way when the driver lost control. everyone made it out okay without serious injuries. to the south bay, where the weather has caused problems there all day long. >> katie is along highway 101 in san jose tonight. >> the rain is coming down hard right now. it has been steady all day and night, making for dangerous and unfortunately, deadly conditions on the roadways. chp is asking everyone to take extra precautions. your regular drive to and from work can be anything but when it's raining. >> the end of my commute on the sky pass going into san francisco was flooded. i'm not sure how something in the air could be flooded. >> reporter: flooding is one

hazard. slick roads are another. >> the roadway conditions are going to change. the driving habits need to change, as well. >> reporter: that means slow down. if your windshield wipers are on -- >> the headlights need to be on, as well. that is increased visible for you and other drivers, as well. >> reporter: a driver was killed when they lost control and hit a tree in palo alto. the chp reported some two dozen accidents on highway 17 alone. >> i don't like driving in the rain. i get nervous because people seem to slow down and there's no need to brake. and everyone acts crazy when it's raining. >> i'm afraid of my children,s specially when i'm driving with them in the car. >> reporter: another tip from the chp, make sure your car is in good working order. air in the tires, clean windshield pipers, fluids topped off. being broken down can make you the hazard.

several trees came down in sonoma county. in gurnville, the crew had to clean up a rockslide. abc 7 news reporter, leslie brinkley, is live in santa rosa with that story. >> reporter: the rain is coming down heavily right now. but overall, they haven't gotten as much rain up here as was predicted. crews have been out, bracing for flooding. and tonight, they had to face down another fire. the flames roared to life in this two-story home, just as the nighttime rain pelted the santa rosa neighborhood next to the burn zone. six engines and two ladder trucks tamped the fire down on a harrowing day for this region, since the october fires exactly

three months ago. officials have worried about the complications rain could bring as it hit the barren soil. but a dry december gave crews unexpected extra time to clear storm drains and the homes that were burned are getting doused with the biggest rainfall this season. a flood watch did not lead to flooding. it rains but it soaked in. the winds were not enough to topple trees. >> right now, we're looking good. we want the community to remain vigilant. don't take it for granted. they see flooding or mud flow, report to 911. >> reporter: another disaster averted for now. we want to take a moment and look at sfo. according to flight aware, inbound flights are delayed an average of 90 minutes because of low clouds.

peninsula, around california drive, burlingame area, it is coming down heavily, as well. moderate to light rain coming down around san jose, santa clara. and the north bay, so far, so good for the burn scar areas. you'll notice some steady rain. the rainfall is just impressive. almost five inches in kent field. san francisco, record daily rain, 2.7 inches. you have to go back to the 1800s to match that daily rainfall record. it surpassed the old record. 2.12 in half moon bay. san jose, moffett field, both over an inch. look at oakland, two inches. and liver more, close to that. we have gotten a good dose of this storm. it's a level 3 storm. it is a strong storm, rain heavy at times, with flooding possible. bay bridge toll plaza, you will

notice that the rain is coming down. and tomorrow morning's commute will include some slippery roadways. temperatures from the 40s to the 60s, in places like san jose. hour-by-hour, heavy rain around 1:00 a.m. oranges, yellows, for parts of the bay area. by the time the morning commute begins, 4:00 a.m., mike nicco will be here tracking this storm. most will see isolated showers. could see a heavy downpour around the south bay. 5:00 a.m., widely scattered showers. much lighter than what we saw today and are seeing tonight. 8:00 a.m., if your kids go to school, make sure they have the rain gear. noontime, steady rain. and then, the showers become less widespread in the afternoon and evening. by 6:00, this storm is winding down and there's not much left other than cloud cover. in terms of the rainfall, we're

looking at about one-third of an inch in ukiah to almost an additional two inches of rain in santa rosa, and calistoga. there is concern about mudslides in the burn scar areas. in the sierras, some high elevation snow. 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., two to four inches at 6,000 feet. tomorrow morning, mid-40s to the low 50s. need a jacket or raincoat or umbrella to keep you dry. for the afternoon, you will be seeing a mix of sun, clouds and some showers. so, you'll need the rain gear and the umbrellas. upper 50s. here's a look at the forecast. scattered showers and breezy. we drop it to a level 1 for tuesday. wednesday, mostly cloudy. one system might try to sneak in here and drop a few showers. drying out for the latter part of the workweek all the way into
