offensive comments from president trump. while discussing immigration with lawmakers in the oval office, he used vulgarity to describe certain countries. good evening. i'm kristen sze. >> i'm erithas the comment was made after the president learned of a plan for haitians and some people from africa to come to the u.s. >> the political fauout has been swift and widespread. reporter tiffany wilson is live with local reaction. >> kristin, according to people inside the oval office, president trump didn't just criticize people from haiti, el salvador and africa, he also suggested that the u.s. should try to bring in more people from places like norway. his comments have ignited a firestorm. after hearing about an immigration plan that includes protections for people from haiti, el salvador and some african countries trump reportedly said why are we having all of these people from expletive countries come here? the white house is not denying his profane remarks.

>> the question he asked was very rhetorical. why are we taking people from countries that produce high instances of illness and violence. >> chairman of the hispanic republicans says it was just president trump showing his new york upbringing. >> would i use that terminology, no, but i'm not the president. >> the bay area action committee says there's no i couldn't have indication for his attack. >> we think it's disgusting what he said, it's a reflection of his mind-set, his racism and his white supremacy. >> congressman mark desaulnier is weighing in. >> it's loathsome. i'm not a supporter of the president. i'm not a fan. >> trump's twitter account has been silent about the subject although many others including dianne feinstein used media to denounce his words calling the comments disgusting. some people want at apology. charlie hinton wants more. >> he should resign from office. >> not likely.

marci gonzalez, abc news, about your bank, california. rebecca riskin is the sister of a spokesman for the alameda district attorney. the real estate agency intends to carry out her life work with the same strength, grace and he will ghans defined her. other victims, 69-year-old josephine guar died when she opened the door to her home. she was a former nurse and a grandmother of three. >> one of the oldest victims was 84-year-old roy rohter, the founder of a ventura catholic school. his wife was injured and remains hospitalized. >> tonight, california national guard members based in moffett field returned from southern california. they rescued several survivors from the mud slides. abc7 news reporter janine de la vega tells us about their experience new at 11:00. >> reporter: it's been a long three days for senior air man ryan garot. he and the 129th rescue wing

just returned from seeing people in southern california lose everything. >> it was devastating. you could see basically the mudslide and the effects of the mudslide resulting in cars through second story windows, roofs that were ripped off of homes. >> he and his team were in this hh60 helicopter flying above the destruction. the mud was deep, thick and wet forcing them to be strategic in finding places to land so they would not get stuck. gara would sit in that seat looking out the window surveying damage and looking for survivors. they ended up rescuing three. >> tears in their eyes thanking us for trying to sort out what was going on. >> reporter: it was challenging and at times he described the scene as mass confusion. he and his team stayed focused. >> i just think of, that could have been our family down there. it gets to you a little bit but you can't let it get to you. you're here to do a job. they're relying on you to do the
